Discover our Coastline Our beautiful coastline stretches for 32 kilometres from Tamala Park (just south of Mindarie), to Two Rocks and boasts limestone cliffs, heathland and sanddunes. This is not only a delight for nature lovers but also an ideal destination for beach and water sport enthusiasts.

The more adventurous can start the day challenging the waves at The Spot, in Two Rocks, while others may prefer observing the ocean’s marvels at Yanchep Lagoon, the perfect place for snorkelling. Whilst in this northern area of the Sunset Coast, take the time to go fishing in the beautiful Yanchep Lagoon. Head further north again, where you will come across Two Rocks, a peaceful coastal community. Two Rocks also boasts a marina and boat harbour and the coastline is scattered with historic shipwrecks

Surfing

Yanchep – Just north of the Lagoon there is a small reef called “Rafts” that provides both right and left breaking waves about 150 days a year. There are some good banks to the North providing some beach breaks too. The Spot (north of Yanchep) – A popular break with the locals, The Spot often provides long barrelling left hand waves. There is a beach break to the north that provides some fast fun for the body boarders as well.

Visit Mindarie Marina with its highquality cafes and restaurants, plus a sophisticated microbrewery and a great pub serving sea-fresh fish and chips. The maritime history of this coast is littered with tales of ships coming to grief on treacherous reefs. These days, the many remaining shipwrecks have become interesting historic artefacts and gripping dive locations.

Diving

There are a number of dive companies that operate out of Mindarie Marina or boats that can be chartered by people with an appropriate skipper’s ticket.

Boating

Boat launch facilities are available from Mindarie Marina (south) and Two Rocks Marina (north).

Discover our Heritage & Arts Wanneroo has a rich and diverse heritage. Like the Nyoongar people the new settlers used the natural resources of the ‘lakes districts’ to sustain them and by 1872 there were 60 new families in the area. The name ‘Wanneroo’ comes from the word ‘Wanna’, meaning digging stick used by Aboriginal women and ‘Roo’ meaning ‘the place of ’.

You can visit our earliest surviving residence at Cockman House, discover some of our military history at the 10th Light Horse Trail (a WW11 campsite), wonder at the relics of our early lime-burning industry or visit the Regional Museum for a wonderful insight into Wanneroo over the years. School programs are run at all museums including Buckingham House and the old Wanneroo School House.

Fascinating recollections of local residents interpret the region’s journey from Aboriginal lifestyle to a thriving centre of industry and a multi-cultural society.
