Not only that, but Dr. Patrick also gave insight into the strategy to make a start-up effort to overcome the rapid growth in the economy and technology industry. The steps include acquiring experience from other companies, looking for prospects in the niche market, investing in IP Protection to secure invention rights, and working on a team with rich diversity.

On the 20th of September 2022, HSBC Prosperity hall invited Dr Patrick Hung to the SPECIAL Hall Night Talk This night’s talk discussed opportunities in Silicon Valley and GBA because Dr Patrick Himself was the Cofounder of CPO Technologies Corporation in Silicon Valley, California, back in 2000 The talk starts with raising awareness about how we are living in the same era as the technological breakthrough To do that, understanding the situation and having knowledge and skill sets concerning recent technology like AI (Artificial

Additionally, Dr Patrick also recommends having a good patent strategy. Patents as protection for start-up efforts can be used offensively and defensively. Developing a patent portfolio and targeting big companies also increases the possibility of a successful start-up. A patent can also help fundraising efforts toward inventions, especially when the target patent is in the Silicon Valley and GBA areas.

In the last section of the talk, there was a Q&A session where Dr Patrick helped to answer the student’s curiosities, concerns were clarified, and questions were answered. Dr.Patrick highly recommended having a good team to work with when a student asks for consultation regarding the upcoming HK Tech.

In romance scams scheme, Scammers create a fictional person on social media platforms and online dating websites. After establishing trust, they make up false stories about needing money To prevent this, we can avoid interacting with suspicious people online.

Lastly, in Financial Intermediaries Scams, Victims will receive emails requesting bank account details The sender will often mimic the official banking company's email's name to trick the victim into giving personal information on their banking account To deal with these scams, we can type in the actual email name from the banking company and spot differences in the email name

Let's stay vigilant and combat scam fever!

The start-up ecosystem is getting popular these days, especially in Hong Kong. Therefore, HSBC Prosperity hall provides another SPECIAL hall night talk about it. This event invites Ms. Karena Belin to speak about her start-up journey in the beginning. She wanted a platform for those with a passionate, entrepreneurial spirit, so she co-founded a company, W-hub.

Besides that, strategic position, access to funding, wellregulated environment, and easily accessible are also why hong kong is strategic for start-ups. She mentioned how hong kong established successful companies from the start-up blow in 2019. Most of the focus area of these companies is fintech.

Some examples of these companies are Animoca Brands, a leader in the emerging market of decentralized digital assets to drive mass adoption of blockchain. DJI is also another successful company in its category and its area. In the end, Karena encourages us, university students, who have high potential when jumping into this start-up scene. Though the entrepreneurial journey is a rocky road, it is worth investing in if you are passionate about it.

Advice from Karena for students who want to get into a start-up environment is; Be as diverse as possible when you build a team, Find the right investor and Avoid the wrong investors, and find a relatively promising place for the start-up to thriving.

Mr. Wong Hong Yi was invited to this series of SPECIAL Hall Night Talk to share his experience within his education journey from high school years up to his PhD years. He is a graduate of the City University of Hong Kong with a BEng in Architectural Engineering department and a former residence in the CityU residence hall. With a high level of relatability in his background with the audience, he then shared the details of his journey with the listener.

He explained that he liked to do non-academical activities in his high school year like music and sports which are something he does as a hobby. Getting into university was challenging because he was a generalist. It took time for him to find the right major to pursue. He ended up studying hard and managed to get into the Associate for Architectural Engineering. He aimed to enter the bachelor program but halted due to failing one of the required subjects. He had to retake the course for the next year but had a whole next semester empty. He decided to do some charity work and went to Africa with the help of a charity organization. When he was there, he did a lot of meaningful activities like interacting with and educating the people and children there, doing some high-level hiking, etc.

After graduating from City University in Hong Kong,

Mr. Hong Yi then proceeds to take a master's degree in Fire Safety Engineering where he then explains the differences between the two types of master's degrees. Taught master's is a degree where you receive the material as a basis for your future career path but a Research master's can branch to a PhD program by doing tons of research on the field. In these years, he managed to set up a start-up company with his colleagues called GABES that focuses on creating safetyrelated gadgetry and types of equipment to help people in emergencies.

In his university days, he did a lot of activities to fill in his daily life ranging from participating in several university competitions, hall activities, and some sports activities. He did those because he enjoyed those types of activities and urged the audience to also find what they like and do the activities based on that interest. He also made many friends along the way and it help fulfill his fruitful university life.

RedesignandRe-engineering theNotionofEducationand Classrooms

Mr. Tommie Lo attended tonight's Hall Night Talk. He runs Preface AI as its CEO. He began to share his tale of his interactions with his company. His company offers training and educational content and services for people that are interested in technological development such as the CEO of other companies. His academic background has little to do with technology majors like history or literature. Yet after getting into UCLA, he discovered that he liked economics, even if doing so required mastering arithmetic, a topic he is not good at. He subsequently made the decision to enroll in the math class and, with perseverance, was successful. He achieves outstanding academic standards and receives a job offer from JP Morgan. He was not, however, having fun at work.

A short while afterward, he was covertly hired by an organization that assisted the current US president in making choices. Calculations in statistics were required so that the current president could make the optimal choice, necessitating Mr. Tommie's expertise. While assisting the president in determining the best course of action for the nation, he found the work to be tedious. He made the decision to leave his position and pursue academia, finishing his Ph.D. He was obtaining his Ph.D. with the intention of becoming a professor. To achieve this, he later traveled to London.

He worked as a waiter in a different service industry because the lifestyle in London had high maintenance. But then customers started recognizing him as a Ph.D. student and asked him to be their teacher. He then began to work as a teacher for those students and eventually garnered a life-saving out of those teaching experiences. He then decided to use that money to start up an education company and hold his Ph.D. degree for that period. Another company scouted Mr. Tommie’s start-up company due to its rising popularity and offered a hefty profit.

But Mr. Tommie decided to reject the offer and ended up losing a lot of profit. He then took some time to rethink this matter and made another project that educated people about technology. Using machine learning and data analysis, his platform can adjust itself with the user and make the best fit of the education curriculum for each person. In the end, he reminds us how important your choices are to your life. The next session was a Questions and Answers Session where Mr. Tommie answered the audience's questions about the platform’s AI system, the difference between his platform service and real-life tutors, etc.

The talk that was held on the 20th of April 2023 brought a guest that specialized in robotics, Mr.Rex Sham. He co-founded the company named insight robotics, which produces robots that help detect potential wildfires. Mr. Rex studied computer science at CUHK, received a degree there, and studied Artificial Intelligence. AI is also used within the robots from insight robotics to be able to detect fire in large areas such as a forest. The company collaborated with the Chinese government in charge of environmental issues (agricultural departments, etc.) to be able to receive a database for detecting the fire due to the scarce source for that type of information within the internet.

He found out that fire always started with a spark, thus determining the early stage of a forest fire. The research began in 2009 to detect the said spark using sensors, thermal and standard cameras to collect data using unsupervised learning techniques implemented toward the AI. The company also collaborated with the local firefighters to identify the vegetation and its characteristics related to the foliage's burning ability. After Mr. Rex and his team collected all the information, a prototype was built to test out the effectiveness of the system.

Then he discovered that pests and diseases contribute to massive plantation failure, and the residue becomes a potential cause for wildfire due to drying up and decreasing carbon absorption. After that, he developed solutions to solve the problem of pests, diseases, and wildfires to help the local farmer by incorporating low-maintenance sensors to minimize the machine's maintenance cost. His effort resulted in the production of robots with artificial intelligence sold in several countries to help with plantation issues.

The company is still developing the robot with its third-generation robots with more information and experiences. The latest feature currently being designed is the ability to recognize smoke from different areas using vision to determine types of smoke that would be beneficial to detect incoming wildfires. This night's talk was focused on active discussions from the audience toward Mr. Rex, answering a range of questions regarding the hardships of developing the product and being in the market. He also mentioned the most important aspects of a startup: personal interest, resources (i.e., cash, knowledge, investors), and a partner to work with.
