As a child, I lived for the day each autumn that the Sears holiday catalog would make its appearance in our mailbox. I’d spend hours devouring the toy section, making a wish list of gadgets and gizmos I wanted to add to my toy box. We may be all grown up now, but you and I both know we still have a toy box (or 12) at home. Only rather than being filled with dolls and RC cars, they contain our evergrowing stash of crafting supplies. Consider this second volume of Creative Spaces your holiday catalog. Access your inner child and flip through the pages with the same childlike

enthusiasm. Mark each and every idea that speaks to you. And don’t be afraid to dream big! Whether you’re updating an existing space or finally getting that craft room of your very own (lucky you!), we’ve got storage and display ideas for you. Short on space? No worries; we’ve included several shared spaces (mine being one of them), where places to craft have been incorporated into other living areas of the home. And if a dedicated crafting area is still on your “someday” list, let this issue guide your big-kid wish list.
Cheers!
Megan Hoeppner Creative Editor Creating Keepsakes magazine
I was so inspired by the ideas in our first issue of Creative Spaces (available at creatingkeepsakes.com), which included a look inside my scrapbook/ stamping/paper crafting room, that I couldn’t resist arranging a second crafty corner in my home dedicated to my sewing. I hope this issue leaves you with the same can’t-wait-toorganize feeling!

To sort your products by how you actually work, set up creation stations for specific techniques or functions. This station is a colorful example of a place to have a little fun with stamping.

marvelously modern A neutral color palette offers a creative canvas for color trends that you can swap out as your tastes change. But, if you have a favorite color that has persisted year after year, incorporate it in a bold way. For instance, a wood floor gives you an opportunity to make that favorite color stand out—paint your floor with wide stripes as Amy did.

Here’s a storage solution that will have you thinking inside the box. Wrap a paper mache or thin wood box with paper, punch or drill holes in the lid, and use it to hold long, skinny supplies, such as pencils or paint brushes.

Ear’s to you, floss holder. Yup, this stylish display was designed to hold earrings, but look how well it works as a place for your embroidery floss. Simply wrap floss or twine around little cards, pierce a hole in each card, and attach the cards to the holder using small jump rings.

Love Heather’s designs? Here’s where most of them come to life. Check out her chair! A school chair is a fun way to add some pizzazz to your space.
ribbon rod Whether you repurpose a towel rack with a removable rod or add dowels to the underside of a small shelf, this is a great way to keep your spools of ribbon organized and make the most of your wall space.

Space Planner Take an art-journal approach to planning your creative space.
With so many inspiring rooms, storage solutions, and décor, you may be wondering, “What’s next? How do I get started on my own creative space?” Well, the solution is simple and fun! Create an inspiration book. Get your hands on a blank book (anything from a composition book to a Brag Book like the one seen here) and fill it with decorating and storage ideas that speak to you. Use the inspiration in your book to organize ideas for your dream crafting space or any other creative endeavor on your list.
Rather than attach a full paint swatch to your book, save space and trim small shapes from your swatches to track your favorite color combinations.
A wish list is a great way to keep track of ideas. Download this wish list for free at creatingkeepsakes. com/creativespaces2.
