STYLE PROFILE
homespun For layouts about home and family, a sweet down-home look can’t be beat. Consider trims with the following attributes: • Handcrafted: look for trims that look crocheted or knitted • Functional: choose items that are used around the house or in other domestic hobbies • Traditional notions: think lace or embroidery floss
Baker’s twine Lost & Found: Market Street “Princess” Trims, My Mind’s Eye mymindseye.com
Wide lace Noel Trims, Making Memories makingmemories.com
Trim type: Yarn Style effect: Bring a warm and inviting feel to
your page by using a bit of yarn on your layout. You can use it like Nicole Harper did to wrap around page accents, photos, or journaling blocks. Shiny crocheted lace Road Show Ribbon, Fancy Pants Designs fancypantsdesigns.com
Fine crocheted lace Tinsel & Twig Market Trims, The Girls’ Paperie, Advantus advantus.com
Lace Dusty Blue Trim, Webster’s pages websterspages.com

Her Space by Nicole Harper. Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper; Patterned paper: American Crafts, Studio Calico, and October Afternoon; Wood veneer: Creative Imaginations; Brads and chipboard: American Crafts; Stickers: Sassafras; Fabric die cut: Buzz & Bloom; Punches: EK Success; Paint: Making Memories; Pen: American Crafts and EK Succees; Yarn: Lily; Other: Staples.
Trim type: Baker’s twine Style effect: Homespun meets elegant on this layout
about a wedding celebrated at a farm. Use baker’s twine to hang tags and thread buttons, like Joannie McBride did here, to add easy, no-sew homey touches. You can use crochet thread, embroidery floss, or waxed linen thread to get this look.
Trim type: Lace Style effect: Give your layout a cozy, welcoming
feel by combining two to four types of lace on your layout, like Terri Hayes did. Notice how she used wide scalloped lace as a top border, white eyelet lace as a bottom border, brown crocheted trim as side borders, and thick blue trim as an accent in the bottom righthand corner of her layout.

Cotton Fabric
Cotton fabric helps you bring soft texture to your layouts, not to mention gorgeous colors and striking patterns. And when you combine it with supplies from your stash, you’ll find it’s easy to create sophisticated accents while maintaining the down-to-earth vibe that drew you to fabric in the first place.
BEFORE
With textures and scrapbooking, it’s often true that more is better. Add multiple touchable textures to your layout with one fabric accent (talk about efficient), like a simple, folded fabric flower. Add crocheted flowers or felt pieces for a super soft center that will enhance any warmhearted story.
after
Line the edges of your fabric flower with a thin layer of sparkling glitter glue. Not only will the shimmer catch your viewer’s eye, it will help you more clearly define the soft edges of your flower. With this added element, your viewer will be able to see at a glance that you’ve created a sophisticated fabric rose.

BEFORE
Fluttery fabric butterflies work wonders on layouts to illustrate the ethereal sweetness of little girls. Made with floral print cotton, these butterflies add a summery touch to any layout, perfect for embellishing your carefree stories. Don’t worry about the edges fraying—that just adds to the cool, handmade look.
after
Crackle medium adds a vintage look to paper and stickers, but did you know it does double duty on fabric? First, the liquid dries to a high gloss finish with light-catching crackled facets. Second (and the really cool part), when applied sparingly, the medium pulls on the fabric as it dries, lifting and curling portions of the material to enhance your accent’s homespun style with a bit of vintage warping.
