Welcome to the City of Clarksville’s Parks and Recreation Activity Guide. Fall is already upon us, with winter not far off, and that means lots of great seasonal activities. Our staff works hard year-round to ensure our City has tons of great family-friendly activities, including the downtown market, camping at Billy Dunlop Park, holiday activities and more! If you are looking to explore the history of our City, I encourage you to explore Fort Defiance, or make plans to attend one of their upcoming events. Wherever your interests lie, Clarksville Parks and Recreation has you covered. I encourage you to use this guide to try something new and no matter what, have fun!

MOVIES IN THE PARK Saturday, September 21, Mary Poppins Returns at Liberty Park Saturday, October 12, The Karate Kid at Liberty Park Enjoy free movies under the stars and join us for pre-show activities before the movie screening. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Food will be available for purchase on-site from food trucks. Please leave pets and alcohol at home. Movies begin at sunset.

SLEEP UNDER THE STARS CAMPOUT

Saturday/Sunday, Sept. 28-29, 2PM-9AM Billy Dunlop Park, $15 per person, $55 per family (up to 6 people) Join us for a bonfire, games, ghost stories and more at our great family campout! Fee includes an afternoon and evening of activities, dinner and breakfast. Campers must provide their own tent and sleeping materials. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

NEW! 154TH INFANTRY DAYS Saturday-Sunday, September 7-8, 10AM-3PM Fort Defiance, free admission The 154th Senior Tennessee Infantry Regiment from Woodridge, Illinois will provide living history demonstrations consisting of a period company street and Civil War camp life and demonstrating Civil War drills and musket firing.

SEVIER DAY Saturday, September 14, 10AM-3PM Fort Defiance, free admission This event focuses on the history of Clarksville’s Native American and Frontier era. Re-enactors will demonstrate flint knapping, an authentic blacksmith operation, frontier camp life, and flintlock musket firing. At 11AM, Historical Interpreter, Tracy Jepson, will give a special presentation detailing the story of Sevier Station. 4

Saturday, October 5, 6-9PM Fort Defiance, $50 per person The Friends of Fort Defiance will host a fundraiser featuring an evening of history, music from “The Traveling Caudells and 19th century fare, and silent auction. Limited to 50 attendees. Payment for the event will be by check or cash to a “Friends of Fort Defiance” member or by credit card at FtDefianceClarksville.com.

GHOST TOURS WITH CLARKSVILLE BCYCLE Friday, October 11 & November 1, 6-8PM Austin Peay State University BCycle station, $20 per person Join us for a haunted historical guided tour of APSU’s campus led by William Parker. Participants will be provided a BCycle and safety vest. The ride through campus will stop at historical points of interest with dark pasts. APSU students can use their BCycle promo code for $5 off! Saturday, October 12, 12-2PM Crow Recreation Center, $5 per pumpkin Surprise your friends and the whole neighborhood with your carving or painting skills with a unique Jack-o-lantern that will glow for the Halloween season.

Thursday, October 24, 5:30-7:30PM Burt-Cobb Recreation Center, $3 per child Children are invited to participate in an evening of fun and games while sporting their favorite superhero costume of choice. Participants can rotate through stations such as face painting, temporary tattoos, arts and crafts, and power up with apple slices, fruit drinks, and finger sandwiches. Parental supervision is required.

FLOATING PUMPKIN PATCH Saturday, October 19, 2-5:30PM New Providence Pool, $5 per person, $8 per person with pumpkin Ditch those dusty pumpkin patches and choose your pumpkin from the pool this year! Activities will range from pumpkin decorating, face painting, bounce house, games, and more. Pre-register to guarantee your pick of the floating pumpkin patch. Drop-in admission on the day of the event is available if the facility does not reach capacity.

HAUNTED SWIM Saturday, October 19, 7-10:30PM New Providence Pool, $5 per person, $8 per person with pumpkin while supplies last Join us at the pool for a night where you can find just the right amount of scare. During this evening of haunted bliss, you can enjoy swimming, music and a scary good time! Invite a friend if you dare, so both of you can share the scare.

HALLOWEEN AT FORT DEFIANCE Friday, October 25, 6-8PM Fort Defiance, free admission Visitors are invited to gather around the bonfire to listen to haunting historical tales of woe and terror. Don’t be afraid, Fort Defiance isn’t haunted...we think! Hot dogs and hot chocolate will be served. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

FRIGHT ON FRANKLIN Saturday, October 26, 3-6PM Downtown Clarksville, free admission Every year, Historic Downtown Clarksville transforms into a frightfully fun atmosphere for the entire family to enjoy. There will be themed activities, a hayride and safe trickor-treating. Dress to impress and pre-register for the popular costume contest.

SCARE-CROW Thursday, October 31, 5:30-8:30PM Crow Recreation Center, free admission Participate in our third annual indoor trunk or treat event. Local businesses and organizations are invited to participate, too. A costume contest for all ages will be judged and awards will be given for: Cutest, Best Quality, Most Original, and Best Group.

TODDLER SPLASH October 16, November 20, December 18, 10AM-12PM Ages 1-5, $5 per person Toddlers can enjoy interactive water play tables, age-appropriate crafts, and healthy snacks while getting acquainted with the water or practicing previously learned water safety skills.

DISCOVER SCUBA October 5, November 2 & 16, December 7 & 21, 1-4PM Ages 10 and up, $40 per person While not an actual scuba certification, participants will learn how to use scuba equipment in shallow water and get a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.

SEAL TEAM SCUBA CAMP Tuesday-Thursday, October 15-17, 12-4PM Ages 8-12, $299 per person The Waterdogs Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) hosts this three-day camp where Seal candidates learn the basics of safe diving and scuba skill while playing underwater games. This young diver program is built around action-packed Aqua Missions.

October 5, November 2, December 7, 9-9:45AM Ages 8-11, $40 per session Join in the fun of scuba! Children should be comfortable in the water, but they don’t have to be super swimmers. With youngsters in mind, the maximum depth is only 2 meters/6 feet. A typical session lasts about 2-3 hours and scuba gear is included.

Monday/Wednesday/Friday, October 2-December 30, 9-9:45AM Ages 50 and up, $3 per person This drop-in fitness program encourages you to get in the water and enjoy a good workout and the benefits of the water. Improve agility, balance, coordination, and strength to help maintain an independent lifestyle at your convenience.

INFANT SWIMMING RESOURCE SWIM LESSONS (ISR) Monday-Friday Ages 6 months-6 years, $65 per week ISR goes beyond traditional swimming instruction by teaching children ISR Self-Rescue techniques designed to help them survive should they reach the water alone. HOWARD’S HOPE SWIM LESSONS Monday-Thursday, 6-6:45PM Ages 4-11 The Howard’s Hope Flying Fish program offers free swim lessons to children who meet the Howard’s Hope eligibility requirements. EVENING WATER AEROBICS Monday/Wednesday/Friday, October-December, 5:30-6:15PM Ages 18 and up, $30 per session This class uses the natural resistance and buoyancy of water against your body to provide a wide variety of conditioning benefits. Water exercise is excellent for all skill levels and increases your energy, stamina, and strength. Session dates: October 2-28, October 30-November 5, November 27-December 23.

NEW! WATER WALKING Tuesday/Thursday, October-December, 8:30-9:30AM Ages 18 and up, $3 per class Burn up to 550 calories per hour during this low-impact aerobic workout. The water provides resistance making your muscles work harder to move forward. Session dates: October 1-December 20.


AQUA CYCLING

Tuesday/Thursday, 5:30-6:30PM Ages 18 and up, $50 per session Get a full-body workout by pedaling in the pool on submerged aqua bikes. It is an impact-free workout for all body types. Session dates: October 1-31, November 5-26, December 3-31.

NEW! PRENATAL AEROBICS

Saturdays, 10:30-11:30AM All ages, $30 per session Expecting mothers will learn how to tone and strengthen their body with this fun and challenging aqua workout. Session dates: October 5-November 23.

Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 9-9:45AM Ages 18 and up, $3 per class Participants will combine cardiovascular work, deep water running, jogging, bicycling, and cross-country ski movements. The class focuses on muscular strength motions that work the body’s major muscle groups as well as moves that work the core and balance. Session dates: October 2-December 13.

NEW! WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL Tuesdays/Thursdays, 5-8PM Foy Recreation Center, Ages 18 and up, free We are excited to offer a 4-on-4 adult basketball league. Team captains must register their team in person at the Foy Recreation Center at Austin Peay State University. Teams will play one game per week, September 3-26 followed by a single elimination tournament, October 1 and 3. Wheelchairs will be provided.

ADAPTIVE SOCCER

Sundays, 2-3PM Heritage Park Sports Complex, ages 7-12, $25 This program provides children and young adults with disabilities the opportunity to learn the game of soccer at their own pace. It provides learning, development, and physical participation, without the pressure of competition. The instruction is geared towards their needs with fewer and more flexible rules. September 22-October 20. Register by September 15.

YOUTH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

Tuesdays, ages 9-11 Thursdays, ages 12-14 Kleeman Recreation Center, $65 per participant Are you looking for another way to ACE your child’s activities this winter? Our Youth Volleyball League has you covered! Your child can bump, set, and spike their way through the season with a National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) trained coach. Register by December 6. Practices begin the week of January 6. Games begin the week of February 3.

YOUTH BASEBALL & SOFTBALL LEAGUE

Heritage Park Sports Complex Ages 3-14, $45 per child This spring co-ed recreation league gives participants a chance to learn the fundamentals of Blastball!®, t-ball, baseball and softball in a non-competitive environment. No scores or standings will be kept. Register by March 16. Practices begin the week of April 20. Practice days and times may differ from game days and times. Season begins the week of May 18.

ADULT SOFTBALL LEAGUE

Heritage Park Softball Complex Ages 18 and up, $100 per team + final fees Round up your friends and sign up for one of our softball leagues: Sunday Mens, Thursday Womens, Friday Co-ed, Tuesday True Co-ed, Monday 45 and up. Registration is for TEAMS only. Register by February 14. Practices begin the week of March 1 and are scheduled based on coach and facility availability. Once registration fees have been paid, final fees will be calculated when all teams have registered and are due March 6. Season begins the week of March 15 (Thursday Women’s League begins June 4). YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE AGES 7-15, $65 PER PERSON Our youth co-ed basketball league encourages sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill development. Games are played at our three recreation centers beginning December 7. Practices begin the week of November 4 and are scheduled based on facility availibility. In an effort to make the teams as balanced as possible, player evaluations will be conducted by Parks & Recreation staff October 14 & 15. After the completion of the evaluations, teams will be formed by the staff based on the rankings from those evaluations. All players in the league must attend the evaluation. RECREATION CENTERS Clarksville is home to three recreation centers that provide residents with fun experiences at an affordable price! Each center features a

full-size gymnasium, fitness center with cardiovascular and strength

training equipment, game room and a meeting space that is available for reservations. The centers are also home to a variety of special
