Welcome to the City of Clarksville’s Parks & Recreation Activity Guide, which is full of great opportunities for Spring and Summer fun! Parks & Recreation works hard throughout the year to make Clarksville’s parks and facilities exciting and inviting places, filled with family-oriented activities and programs to help you stay active, healthy and fit. From swimming to softball and baseball leagues, from Civil War history to modern workouts, to a bike ride on the Greenway, Clarksville Parks and Recreation has so much to offer. So let this publication be your guide to fun, fitness and family activities.

Warmer weather is here and at Clarksville Parks and Recreation that means that parks and programming are in full swing. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are working hard to make sure you’ll have plenty to do this Summer without leaving Clarksville. The new Red River Trail extension is now open providing additional Greenway to explore and Billy Dunlop Pavilion has been renovated for your next gathering. There are dozens of programs for you and your family to enjoy at our recreation centers and ballparks. In addition, we host many special events including the three-day Riverfest festival in September, Movies in the Park throughout spring and summer, and the always popular Downtown Market. We also have multiple splash pads and pools to cool you off on those hot days. If you’re a history buff, you’ll love Ft Defiance and it’s Civil War-era displays and rich Clarksville history. With all there is to do here right in your hometown, a staycation is an obvious choice for your family fun this Summer!

AQUATICS SUMMER POOL SEASON The City of Clarksville operates four public swimming pools and four splash pads in the summer months (May 23rd - August 2nd) Extended Season August 3 - September 7) Please check the website for each facility’s operation schedule. Concessions are available for purchase on site at each pool. Outside food and drinks are not permitted.

FITNESS CLASSES SILVER SPLASH Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays, May 25 - August 31, 9AM - 9:45AM At New Providence Pool, ages 50 and up, $3 per class Who’s ready to get fit? This drop-in fitness program is for adults 50 and over who want to get in the water and enjoy a good workout. With this innovative program, you can improve agility, balance, coordination, and strength to help maintain an independent lifestyle. Pre-registration is not required.

EVENING WATER AEROBICS Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays, May 25 - July 31 5:30PM - 6:15PM at Bel-Aire Pool, ages 18 and up, $3 per class Are you looking for that perfect after-work fitness routine? This class uses the natural resistance and buoyancy of water against your body to provide a wide variety of conditioning benefits. Water exercise increases energy, stamina, and strength. Classes include a warm-up, aerobics, and cool down. This class is ideal for all skill levels. Pre-registration is not required.

WATER WALKING Tuesdays/Thursdays, May 26 - July 30, 5:30PM - 6:30PM At Bel-Aire Pool ages 18 and up, $3 per class

Water walking is an excellent aerobic and calorie-burning workout. You can burn up to 550 calories per hour by walking in the water. It’s a wonderful way to be or stay active if you are nursing an injury or correcting muscle imbalances. Walking on land mostly works the muscles in the front and back of your thighs, but walking in water also works your upper body because water gives all your submerged muscles 12 to 14 times the resistance as air. Pre-registration is not required.

AQUA CYCLING Saturdays, May 30 - July 25, 9AM - 10AM at Bel-Aire Pool Ages 18 and up, $50 per participant

Get a full-body workout by pedaling in the pool on submerged aqua bikes. This underwater spin class attracts fitness fanatics and offers a myriad of health benefits. It is an impact-free workout for all body types supported by water’s feeling of zero gravity. Water shoes are required. Pre-register by May 27.

DEEP WATER AEROBICS Mondays/Wednesdays, June 1 - July 1 & July 6 - August 5, 7PM - 7:45PM At Bel-Aire Pool, ages 18 and up, $30 per session Participants will combine cardiovascular work, deep water running, jogging, bicycling, and cross-country ski movements. The class focuses on muscular strength motions that work the body’s major muscle groups as well as moves that work the core and balance. Pre-register by May 27.

WATER BABIES Tuesdays/Thursdays, July 7 - July 30, 9AM - 9:45AM at Beachaven Pool, ages 1 month - 2 years, $40 per session Water Babies is a new and engaging low-intensity workout for parents and their babies. This beginner-level workout offers an excellent bonding experience in a safe and encouraging space. Pre-register by July 3.

SCUBA BUBBLEMAKERS SCUBA First Saturdays, June 6 - September 5, 12PM - 1PM at Waterdogs Scuba Shop & 1PM - 4PM at Bel-Aire Pool, ages 8-11, $40 per class Join in the fun of scuba! Participants should be comfortable in the water, but they don’t have to be super swimmers. With youngsters in mind, the maximum depth is only 2 meters/6 feet. Kids get a chance to experience what scuba diving is like under the direct care and supervision of an instructor certified by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. Scuba gear included. Pre-registration is required before each class.

DISCOVER SCUBA 1st & 3rd Saturdays & Sundays, June 6 - September 6, 1PM - 2PM at Waterdogs Scuba Shop & 2PM -5PM at Bel-Aire, ages 10 and up, $40 per class

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to find out but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover Scuba is right for you! While not an actual scuba certification, participants will learn how to use scuba equipment in shallow water and get a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world. All the equipment you need for this class is included. Pre-registration is required.

SEAL TEAM SCUBA CAMP Tuesdays/Thursdays, June 9 - 11, June 23 - 25 & July 14 - 16, 12PM - 1PM at Waterdogs Scuba Shop & 1PM - 4PM at Bel-Aire Pool, ages 8-12, $299 per session The Waterdogs Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Seal Team SCUBA Camp program is just plain cool! During this three-day camp as a Seal candidate, you will learn the basics of safe diving and scuba skills while playing underwater games. This young diver program is exciting and built around action-packed Aqua Missions! Pre-registration is required.

AQUATIC EVENTS NEW! SWAN LAKE NIGHT SWIMS Tuesdays, June 16 & 30, July 16 & 30, 7PM - 9:30PM at Swan Lake Swimming Pool, all ages, $6 per participant

Swan Lake Swimming Pool will host their first of four summer night swims. During these night swims, there will be music, prizes, and yard games. Swan Lake has a 50-meter pool, a drop slide, a regular slide, and a splash pad area. Pre-registration is recommended to hold a spot.

DIVE-IN MOVIE Saturdays, June 20, July 18, & August 8, 7PM - 11PM at Swan Lake Swimming Pool, all ages, $6 per participant Get the family together and join us at Swan Lake Swimming Pool for a series of Dive in Movie nights. Relax in the water under the night sky and enjoy a movie on the big screen. A limited number of floats will be available, so we encourage you to bring your own. There will be FREE Popcorn and our concession stand will be open. The movie will begin promptly at dusk. Pre-registration is recommended to hold a spot.

NEW! SWAN LAKE AQUATIC GAMES Saturday - Sunday, June 27 - 28, 6PM - 10PM at Swan Lake Swimming Pool, ages 9-12 & 13-16, $20 per team, $3 per spectator at the gate Bring your family and friends for a fun-filled evening of friendly kid competition where you could win prizes and beat the heat. Pre-register as a team of 5 to be a part of the competition and learn more online at ClarksvilleParksRec.com.

BACK TO SCHOOL SPLASH Saturday, August 1, 6PM - 8PM at all four City pools Ages 4-18, $6 per participant

Students in grades K-12 are invited to enjoy our back-to-school pool parties where they will receive a backpack full of grade-appropriate school supplies along with a hot dog, chips, and a drink! One parent of each child ten years of age and younger can accompany their child into the event for free, but an optional meal ticket for that parent can be purchased for $2 during the pre-registration process. For parents of children over the age of 10, you can either purchase a $4 pool entry and meal ticket, or a $2 meal ticket (without entry into the pool) during the pre-registration process. Registration is required for all participants, additional meals, and pool entries by July 29.

NEW! WORLD’S LARGEST SWIMMING LESSON ®

ADAPTIVE SWIM LESSONS

The World’s Largest Swim Lesson is designed to build awareness about the vital importance of teaching kids to swim to help prevent drowning, which is the second leading cause of accidental death for children under the age of 14. This event has set five Guinness World Records for the largest swimming lesson ever conducted at multiple locations, with the last official record set in 2013. This is a one-time swim lesson that will last approximately 30 minutes and will take place in cities all over the world in addition to right here in Clarksville. Be a part of a Guinness World Record attempt!

Monday - Thursday, June 8 - 18 & July 6 -16, 6PM - 6:45PM at Bel-Aire Pool All ages, $40 per session Water therapy for children with special needs offers a variety of positive outcomes for the students, teachers, and families. Each child is taught based on their strengths and needs. Pre-registration is required by June 12.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS Held weekdays at times and locations that are convenient for you Ages 3 and up, $110 for four, one-on-one, 45 minute sessions

Private Lessons are offered by reservation during normal business hours. Private swim lessons are ideal for children and adults who need one on one instruction. These lessons are also great for families who cannot make the times of the regular swim lessons.

POOL PARTIES Parties at Clarksville Parks & Recreation Swimming Pools $10 per guest, maximum of 24 attendees (anyone entering pool deck whether swimming or not) Book your next birthday party with us, your party is located on the pool deck with 2 picnic tables reserved for your party. Each two-hour party includes a slice of pizza (pepperoni or cheese) per person, a juice box, ice cream, flatware, paper napkins, and use of water play equipment. PRIVATE POOL RENTALS Private pool rentals are ideal for family celebrations like baby showers, birthday parties, team parties, and more. Whether you are planning graduation parties, reunions, or any other occasion, keep Parks & Recreation facilities in mind for your next event. We recommend making a reservation at least three months before your event, but require booking at least two weeks in advance. For availability and fee information, select your event date and place at ClarksvilleParksRec.com. Rental Fee Ranges from $200 - $300 depending on location and amenities. Private pool rentals are available for groups of 20 or more after hours Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 6-8 PM. There is an additional $75 fee will be applied to parties of more than 50 people. The maximum capacity is based on location. Lifeguards WILL be on duty for private events. The permit holder may bring in food and beverages, but no glass or aluminum containers are permitted. Alcohol is not permitted. The permit holder may not collect admission nor generate revenue from their event. Food vendors or sale vendors are not allowed at private rentals. Publicly advertised events are not permitted.

The Clarksville Downtown Market is a weekly open-air market featuring farmers and artisans who offer locally-grown fresh produce, food items, and handcrafted products. The Market strives to provide an opportunity for customers to connect with local businesses while enhancing the quality of life in our community. Enjoy live music, meet our Market mascot, “Corny the Cob,” and experience special events on select market days. The Market will be closed on September 12.

FLORAL ARRANGING Monday, May 18, 6PM - 8PM at Freedom Point at Liberty Park Ages 12 and up, $55 per participant

Everyone knows, fresh flowers make everything better! Learn to create beautiful, professional-looking floral arrangements with your own hands in this interactive class. Instructor Sarah Nagy, owner of “Love in a Mist by Sarah Danielle,” will teach you all the tools of the floral trade. You will go home with the knowledge and skills to customize your own work of art for any season. Registration fees secure your seat in the class, supplies, and of course, your very own floral arrangement in a beautiful vase. Preregister by May 6.

MOVIES IN THE PARK Saturdays, 6PM - 10PM, all ages, free admission Enjoy free movies under the stars and join us for fun activities before the movie screening! Bring a blanket and lawn chairs. Our mission is to provide purposeful, positive, and popular activities for the youth in Clarksville. Each night features a variety of activities such as a DJ, sports tournaments, enrichment sessions, health and job information booths, motivational speakers, and special guest appearances. A free meal will also be provided, while supplies last. Community organizations are encouraged to participate by providing an activity during the event. Put a new twist on a night out and don’t miss Taste of Liberty Park. This event will feature caterers who are authorized to serve food and beverages at both the Wilma Rudolph Event Center and Freedom Point. This is a great opportunity to explore the Liberty Park venue catering list in one convenient location, or just try some new, local fare! Pre-register by August 1.

For one night only the Clarksville Downtown Market brings local food directly to your table. This meal showcases the best of what the Market vendors have to offer each Saturday during the Downtown Market season. Many of the vegetables, herbs, meats, fruits, and desserts served are grown, produced, and made right here in the surrounding Clarksville area. Pre-register by July 31.

We offer a variety of softball leagues to allow adults the opportunity to play competitively. Round up your friends and sign up! Registration is for teams only. All games are held at Heritage Park Softball Complex. Practices begin the week of July 13 and are scheduled based on facility availability once registration fees have been paid. Final fees will be calculated when all teams have registered. Pre-register by July 10. Season begins the week of August 9.

FLAG FOOTBALL CLINICS Mondays/Tuesdays/Wednesdays, 6PM - 7:30PM At Liberty Park Ages 5-10, $50 per participant

Participants will learn about the fundamentals of football with minimal physical contact and a skilled coach. The clinic consists of four group sessions. Open to all experience levels. Pre-register by July 5. Clinics begin the week of July 13.

BASEBALL CAMPS & CLINICS Weekdays, 6PM - 7:30PM at Heritage Park Baseball Complex Ages 3-14, $50 per session

Participants will learn about the fundamentals of hitting, throwing, defensive positions, and game strategies by a skilled baseball instructor. The clinic consists of four group sessions that are open to all experience levels. Pre-register by July 6. Clinics begin the week of July 20.

SOFTBALL CAMPS & CLINICS Mondays/Tuesdays/Thursdays/Fridays, 6PM - 7:30PM At Heritage Park Baseball Complex, ages 3-14, $50 per participant This clinic allows children to participate in four group sessions with a skilled softball instructor. Youth Cheerleading is a program for ages 5-10 to learn the basics of cheering, jumps, and chants in a flag football game atmosphere. Participants can expect to learn numerous cheers for sideline cheering, rhythmic movements incorporated to music, and basic jumps. Participants will be able to showcase their skills by cheering during flag football games every Saturday for their age group. Registration includes a basic uniform and participation award. Pre-register by July 31. Practices begin August 15. Games begin August 29.

FALL YOUTH BASEBALL CO-ED LEAGUE Mondays/Tuesdays/Thursdays at Heritage Park Baseball Complex Ages 3-9, $45 per participant

Our youth CO-ED recreation leagues give participants a chance to learn the fundamentals of baseball in a non-competitive environment. No score or standings will be kept. All games are held at Heritage Park Baseball Complex. Practices begin the week of September 1 and are scheduled based on coach and facility availability. Season begins September 21. Pre-register by August 9.

ART ON THE PARK Submit artwork between April 13 - September 14 Ages 12 and up, free admission

We host an art contest for artists wishing to see their work on display at Heritage Park Skate park. The painted murals are left for the skating community to enjoy until the next contest! Paint Days are October 3 & 10, 9AM - 3PM at Heritage Park Sports Complex.

WONDER KIDS TRIATHLON Saturday, August 1, 9AM at New Providence Pool & School Ages 3-12, $30 per participant

This is a Swim, Bike & Run event for kids ages 3-12 years, designed to encourage youth to join in some friendly competition, without the pressure of being timed. The event promotes physical activity and sportsmanship. Pre-registration is required. Participants must register by July 1 to guarantee their shirt size.

FALL YOUTH NFL FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE Mondays-Saturdays, August 15 - October 17, various times At Liberty Park, ages 5-10, $80 per participant

Flag football is a great way to introduce your child to the game of football! Participants will have the opportunity to learn about football in a non-contact environment. Games and practices will be held at Liberty Park. Keep your child active this fall and register online now! Pre-register by August 7. Practices begin August 15. Games begin August 29.

RECREATION Clarksville Parks and Recreation hosts many outdoor recreational programs in the parks, and is home to three recreation centers (BurtCobb, Crow and Kleeman). These programs and facilities provide residents with fun experiences at affordable prices. Each recreation center features a full-size gymnasium, fitness center with cardiovascular and strength training equipment, game room, and a meeting space that is available for reservations. DANCE NEW! CHICAGO-STYLE DANCE STEPPING Tuesdays, May 12 - June 30, 6PM - 8PM at Kleeman Ages 21 and up, $30 per session

This program is a two-hour introductory stepping class. Participants will be taught simple dance steps and then will put them together to create a complete Chicago-style routine. Participants are encouraged to bring water with them to the class. Pre-register by May 3.

Zumba is a mixture of low and high intensity movements, often called exercise in disguise. The music generally associated with Zumba is Latin and World Rhythms. This class is designed to bring people together during a total body workout that combines cardio, muscle conditioning, balance, and flexibility.

Sit & Fit is a full-body low-impact workout for people with a limited range of motion & physical limitations. Designed to strengthen and stretch the entire body to improve health, reduce falls, and increase mobility. This upbeat program features a variety of fun movements and music. Participants will use manipulatives while performing seated exercises that focus on core strengthening, muscle retention, and flexibility.

SILVER FITNESS Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays, various times at Burt-Cobb, Crow, Kleeman, ages 50 and up, free admission with rec center membership Seniors are invited to take advantage of our recreation center fitness areas. This includes walking laps around the gym, using the leg press, treadmills, ellipticals, 4-way machines, stationary bikes, and free weights. This is a drop-in program. This program is held at the American Twisters Tumbling facility. Children and parents participate together in a variety of activities designed to work on fine and gross motor skills. Come and learn about the basics of having your own garden. Each gardening 101 class will cover several gardening tips and techniques! Pre-register by June 12.

CANOE & KAYAK FLOAT Saturday, May 23 & August 8, 8AM - 10AM at Liberty Park All ages, free admission

Enjoy a relaxing float on the Cumberland River from Liberty Park to Trice Landing Park. Participants will need to provide their own canoe/kayak and life jacket. Canoes and kayaks must be dropped off by 7:30 a.m. at Liberty Park. Participants will then drive to Trice Landing Park, where transportation will be provided back to the float site at Liberty Park. Pre-register by May 7.


FRIDAY NIGHT BINGO Friday, June 12 & July 10, 6PM - 8PM at Crow Ages 50 and up, rec center membership required

This is a free event (on two different nights) but in order to participate, you must bring in a non-perishable food item. The food items will then be donated throughout different non-profit organizations in our local community. Door prize items will be awarded to the winners.

SUMMER YOUTH LUNCH PROGRAM Over 13,700 FREE meals served last year! Clarksville Parks and Recreation is a proud participant of the Summer Food Service Program throughout the duration of the Summer Youth Program. Lunches are provided at no cost by the USDA at selected sites, pending grant approval. Eligibility requirements vary by site and may include a household income assessment as required. Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, and reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

FORT DEFIANCE CIVIL WAR MEDICAL DISPLAY Saturday, May 23, 10AM - 3PM at Fort Defiance All ages , free admission

Mark Britton, president of “The Friends of Fort Defiance,� will provide a display of 19th-century medical instruments and medicines and discuss with visitors how they were used during the Civil War.

CIVIL WAR DAY CAMP Wednesday - Friday, June 10 - 12, 8AM - 12PM at Fort Defiance Ages 10-13 , $30 per participant

The Historical Interpreters at Fort Defiance will provide an educational day camp about the Civil War period for children ages 10-13. Activities will include making hardtack, practicing soldiering drills, exploring local history, and learning period games and dances. Pre-register by June 5.

Bring a blanket and picnic lunch for this outdoor musical event at Fort Defiance Civil War Park. Civil War re-enactors will host this event as the band entertains with tunes from the 19th century!

154TH INFANTRY DAY Saturday, August 1, 10AM - 3PM & Sunday, August 2, 12PM - 3PM at Fort Defiance All ages, free admission The 154th Senior Tennessee Infantry Regiment from Woodridge, Illinois will be visiting Fort Defiance Civil War Park on August 1st and 2nd. The group will provide living history demonstrations consisting of a period company street and Civil War camp life. They will also be demonstrating Civil War drills and musket firing.
