Our Story Pull up a chair and pour some freshly brewed coffee or tea! We love to visit with you, our friends. We often say that we are blessed with the best customers and friends a company could dream of! Classical Academic Press (a.k.a. CAP) was founded in 2001 by Dr. Christopher Perrin, our CEO, who seeks to cultivate curiosity, wonder, and a lifelong love of learning. He has been a strong advocate for the renewal of classical education and a leading voice of scholé, a restful approach to teaching and learning. Christopher is a lover of truth, goodness, and beauty wherever it may be found. We are a K–12 publishing, media, resource, and training company. Our mission is to produce and supply the finest curricula, media, and classical education training to communities across America and the English-speaking world. We have grown to include divisions such as Scholé Academy, our online academy for grades 3–12; Scholé Groups, our homeschool co-op communities; ClassicalU, our online training site for classical educators; and HeadventureLand, our online Latin practice site. Our motto, “Classical Subjects Creatively Taught,” describes the essence of all that we publish and do. We produce everything with a clear design and structure, focusing on incremental and systematic instruction—all with a touch of delight, creativity, and flair!

The Man Born to Be King

C.S. Lewis read The Man Born to Be King, a twelve-cycle play by Dorothy Sayers, every year during Holy Week. He wrote to her:

The Man Born to Be King

Miss Sayers, I’ve finished The Man Born to Be King and think it a complete success . . . I shed real tears (hot ones) in places: since Mauriac’s Vie de Jesus, nothing has moved me so much. Yours sincerely C.S. Lewis (Collected Letters, II, 577f)

The Liberal Arts Tradition A Philosophy of Christian Classical Education

“We needed this book. . . . Once you’ve read a book or two to introduce you to classical education and have started to ask the deeper questions about its history and nature, get this book and use it as a permanent reference.” —Andrew Kern,

Circe Institute

This staple book for educators and those interested in education introduces readers to a paradigm for understanding a classical education that transcends the familiar three-stage pattern of grammar, logic, and rhetoric. Instead, this book describes the liberal arts as a central part of a larger and more robust model of classical education. It recovers the means by which classical educators developed more than just intellectual virtue (by means of the seven liberal arts) but holistically cultivated the mind, body, will, and affections. Sale: $9.95 (reg. $14.95)

AWAKENING WONDER

C.S. Lewis observed how modern education was changing our conception of what it means to be human. By cutting off students from the transcendent values of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty, modern schools ceased cultivating virtue in students and instead communicated a mechanistic vision of the world that viewed students as products to be engineered. With Awakening Wonder, Dr. Steve Turley demonstrates that precisely such a recovery is at the heart of the current classical education renewal. Teachers will also learn how to incorporate these values into their teaching to awaken awe and wonder in both themselves and their students. Sale: $7.95 (reg. $9.95)
