Jávea’s Mayor has donated his municipal salary (often greater than the First Minister receives for running the country) for the homeless, but it may prove that a man who makes 25 Million Dollars for ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ may have joined the thousands of locals in Jávea who

object to plans by Councillor Mata to provide funds only for 20 kennels when APASA care for more than 200 dogs.

Within weeks of Matt Damon being recognised in Ondara, Leonardo DiCaprio arrived at APASA and asked if he could take some dogs out for a walk.

MASS TAX EVASION

Using satellite imagery and drone footage, Spain's land registry has found 1.7 million irregular homes, building extensions and new private swimming pools in 4,300 towns around the country that were not paying any or the correct amount of property tax, the Finance Ministry reported. Tthe largest number of rregularities was found in Andalusia.

I must admit to a chuckle when Jávea Press Office at the Townhall, sent me this photo, which appears to omit ALL of the opposition Councillors, as if they were only there to look as though democracy was being exercised.

I cannot remember any of the monthly meetings of Councillors lasting much less than an hour - but July 29th was barely 45 minutes.

In the June meeting the Mayor rightly took the applause of his colleagues for provision of a Health Centre at Jávea Park to meet the needs of Summer Tourists. True, no date was mentioned but at the beginning of August it had still not been delivered. Perhaps, now that the stringent hand of Oscar Anton is not at the financial helm, suppliers are refusing to deliver until AFTER they have been paid.

1. In the June meeting it was announced a medical consultorio be supplied on the sandy beach. The Mayor said it would be installed in the months of July and August.

Last year the Marina Salud made the same promise for Summer coverage, but nothing happened.

In 2015 there were temporary HEALTH CENTRES on the beach at Denia and Calpe, but nothing but broken promises for Jávea.

Denia, Orba and El Verger join the "Ruta del RiuRau" initiative

Denia, Orba and El Verger have finally joined 12 other municipalities in the Marina Alta "Ruta del Riurau" initiative.

The cultural heritage theme of the Marina Alta region, celebrates the 19th Century hey-day of the region in the cultivation of muscatel grapes and manufacture of raisins, pointing out the characteristic architecture of the Riurau.

Each town brings something distinctive to the route, Denia emphases the route taken by dried raisins to the Port. El Verger has a dozen Riuraus, though privately owned, they have permissions for visits and viewings and boast the viewing spot of the Segaria terraces, where vines were grown on the edges of the rock. Orba's Riuraus are in poor condition, though they plan to restore this abandoned heritage, and also emphasis the important clay industry of the past.

Spain needs three times more effort to meet EU's emissions targets

Spain will have to treble its efforts in reducing emissions to enable it to meet the European Union's carbon footprint targets, according to the acting environment ministry. Europe's carbon footprint reduction goals are considerably more ambitious than those posed by the United Nations, representing a drop of 40% on readings from the year 1990 by 2030. For Spain, transport, waste management, residential emissions and deforestation are high on the target list - especially since a report revealed that 20% of the nation's countryside is suffering from desertification.

Fire Risk warning system on the Montgó

In a coordinated action, the municipalities of Denia and Jávea have installed a new system warning of forest fire risks in different parts of the Montgó, natural park.

There are seven "traffic light" information posts in the Xàbia area, on La Plana and along the Jesus Pobre road. The posts explain the three colour codes of fire risk which like traffic lights are green, amber and red and there is a small panel displaying today's risk based on the Emergency Coordination centre's advice. The Civic Protection brigade will be responsible for changing the info panels each day.

Large forest fires devastate 37% of the area burned in Spain over the past 10 years

The impact of forest fires in Spain has intensified in the last decade. Between 2006 and 2015, 37% of the total mass affected was devastated, according to a WWF report. Last year, these fires were twice as large and destructive than the average of the last decade: each burned, on average, more than 2,600 hectares, and three (Quesada Jaen , Luna in Zaragoza and Acebo on the Sierra de Gata) comprised 80% of the total burned by large fires in Spain. Valencia considers all its forested area as being "high risk". The main cause of fire is the human hand (intentional: 55%) and 23% due to negligence and accidents.

of the tourist season sees fall in unemployment

The project, carried out on behalf of the Ayuntamiento de Xàbia over the past four months, aims to help solve the problem of damp in the property and has revitalised the characteristic blue-tiled dome. It has also included the cleaning up of the roof to seal existing leaks as well as opened up a series of small windows which had been blocked up to provide more natural light into the interior of the chapel. The work has been completed with a budget of 75,000 euros.

Val de Gallinera promoted as a rural tourism location

A travel article in The Guardian describes a "holiday in deepest Rural Spain" - in the Val de Gallinera under the headline: "A long way from Benidorm: rural regeneration in southeast Spain". The holiday package is being promoted by a UK company.

Granadella parking improved

An additional parking zone and a viewpoint have been created as part of a project to improve Calle Pic Tort in the Granadella zone, an access road that was opened 40 years ago to serve a housing estate in the area. An additional parking area has been created, providing space for 60 to 70 vehicles. In addition, a stretch of the road has been opened up as a path of about 500m which ends in a new viewpoint ("mirador") surrounded by a wooden fence with spectacular views over the cove and towards the remains of the Castell de la Granadella.

Benitachell and Teulada to buy 2000 m3 of water per day

An agreement has been signed for Jávea to sell water to Teulada-Moraira and Benitachell during the summer months.

2,000 cubic metres per day will be transferred by AMJASA to the TeuladaBenitachell consortium which will pay a price of 0.93 euros per cubic metre (compared with the maximum 1,86€ paid by Jávea consumers). This charge will cover water production costs, delivery and maintenance costs of a frame at the desalination plant as well as

The Chinese Government has sent officials from its Ministry of Agriculture to Spain to review the conditions of production, harvesting and packing of stone fruits, to organize the fulfilment of the established the first shipments to that country. Jalón and Lliber drinking water crisis

Jalón can only suppply 30% of the drinking water it needs, from local resources. A couple of months ago both locations had to ban human consumption of tap water due to turbidity and the high level of aluminum. Local wells are extremely low and although they receive water from the Parcent treatment works, things will be difficult this summer.

Lliber and Xaló have asked for supply from the Lucifer well (just below Isbert's dam in the Barranco del Infierno) which currently supplies Calpe, but there is no prospect of a quick agreement. Xaló will be spending some 600,000€ renewing its network of pipes and meters, which will be a major challenge, but will reduce water losses through leaks. They are even looking at connecting to Jávea’s desalination plant at a cost of 20 million €uros.

Investigation of unexplained defoliation of orange trees

The Department of Agriculture and Valencian Institute of Agricultural research is investigating why some orange trees are losing their leaves and yellowing in the Plana Baixa and other citrus growing areas. Having ruled out high concentrations of salt in irrigation

Two for the price of One

When I first came across the word polysemy, I presumed it had been hushed up because it described some kind of illegal perversion involving parrots. It proved to be a fascinating word that not even my spellchecker recognised, offering as it did “politely”, “policeman” and “pulse” as coherent alternatives. In fact this word belongs to my own private collection of obscure words which should be brought out regularly at dinner parties with a casual comment such as: “Yes it really is a serious problem, polysemy, don’t you think?”

It is at moments like this that you can lean back in your chair, start stuffing your pipe, and savour the texture of the word “flummoxed”.

In fact, all it means is that we sometimes have different meanings for the same word.

One fine example of this is the word “plug”; a good, solid, no-nonsense word of Dutch origin, appropriate for a nation of brave young children who are brought up to insert their fingers into dangerous, leaking holes so that their elders may sleep soundly.

“Sole” is another word destined to go forth and multiply. You can put them on your feet, on your plate nestling among the chips, or they can stand alone, solely. You can even have a

lemon sole, and why not? If they can manufacture flavoured versions of chewing gum and other rubbery substances that whilst pleasantly flavoured, are a hard act to swallow, then why not flavour the undersides of our shoes? Or even our socks and underpants?

In fact we say lemon sole as a corruption of the French “limande”, which means “sole”; so when we say lemon sole, we are in fact saying “sole sole”.

Which is a perfect example of polysemy going into nosedive.

The French in fact named the sole “sole” because it reminded them of the shape of the foot, but then what can you expect from a nation whose favourite foodstuff resembles a nose with only one nostril?

“Will” is a nice word. A will is a document that we write in order to say what will happen to our goods and properties in the future. In it we express our will. Whatever will say will be.

“Fit” is similarly pleasant, as are all monosyllables; words that are a direct connection between us and our cave-dwelling ancestors, who stumbled out of their straw beds grunting monosyllables at each other, before they knew how to say “Good Morning”. Eventually grunting must have replaced head-bashing altogether, and finally our happy femur-toting male forbears would have been forced to settle down to grunting opinions about whether or not it was time to put some curtains up in the cave.

Some of us are cursed with a physiology that no known clothes manufacturer has as yet countenanced, and have to traipse from shop to shop just looking for anything that fits, never mind what it looks like.

At such times, and faced with the eternal conflict between buying trousers where you have to let out the waist or

ones where you have to shorten the legs, you might be inclined to throw a fit of pique, or rage; after which you will only be fit for a pint or two, or four; at which point you will be unfit to drive home, which is fitting, as you’ve probably forgotten where you parked the car anyway.

A grave problem is a serious problem, and so a graveyard is a serious yard, and there is surely no more serious yard than a yard of ale, an experience that can change your way of seeing the world, usually from the ground upwards and with a mouthful of gravel.

“Lean” is a word I have a lot of time for. It’s curious that we talk about “a lean year”, meaning a poor one, when lean meat is considered richer than fat.

Surely it must have been the grateful peasants who ate the fat under the fat, rich Lord’s sole, while their betters ate the nice bits and threw them the rest.

Leaning is of course an art form that many attempt but few can tame. Certain proof of this is the incontrovertible fact that Man, the most highly developed species on Earth, is alone in leaning. No other species leans, although some lounge, or even stagger when engaged in mortal combat with some hungry feline hanging around the neck.

Some examples of polysemy can be positively dangerous or embarrassing.

Foreign medical students who are instructed to put a plaster on a patients cut and, twenty minutes later when it’s hardened, sign their name on it with a proud flourish, could be surprised to find out that plaster can also be a small, sticky piece of material to cover a minor wound. But still, better safe than sorry; at least they didn’t slap you on a wall and watch you harden.

And when you are informed that someone is engaged, it’s often not clear if they are on the phone, on the toilet, or merely condemned to a lifetime hanging around in shops they never knew existed, trying to guess the right answer to questions that never seem to have one.

Cruise ships visiting Mallorca will not be subject to the tax if they stay for less than 12 hours

THE Balearic Ports Authority (APB) has announced that following the introduction of the new tourist tax, it is unlikely that more than 10 per cent of cruise ships that visit the Port of Palma will be expected to pay the tourist tax as they will stay in the port for less than 12 hours.

Of the 517 vessels due to dock at Palma, just 47 are booked to stay more than 12 hours and the others will therefore escape the payment of the 1€ (originally planned to be 2€) tax plus IVA per passenger and rather than charge each passenger individually, the cruise companies will report the number of passengers eligible for the tax (as those under 16 may be exempt) and will make a single payment for each vessel.

There is a certain unfairness about the tax which has seen the government criticised, as pleasure craft which visit for more than 12 hours are not charged the tax.

MAYOR CLAIMS DEBTS REPAID

Jávea Finance Committee have repaid loans amounting to 3.2 million €uros and terminated a line of credit that was set to be repaid over 10 years and reduced the amount of another.

Finance Councillor, Toni Miragall, explained this will result in a saving of a million €uros in interest, leaving more capacity for new investment. The total municipal debt has been reduced by almost a third since the José Chulvi team took over (inheriting loans worth 42 million €uros with 27 already paid at the rate of about 4 million a year extra by this exercise).

Despite its liquidity and financial health, Jávea Townhall is obliged to pass an economic and financial plan, one of the conditions being Budget Stability Act, legislation which is referred to as "absurd that leaves municipalities with their hands tied".

The Townhall spends less that it receives and is having to pay providers less because it pays more quickly, and has completed payment on the new building at Portal del Clot, commissioned by a previous group of Councillors, but by doing so has broken guidelines created to support unsuccessful towns.

The law says a municipality can only spend the same as in the previous year, but Jávea broke that rule by using surplus income to reduce future liability.

The Regional Government do not take into account that some municipalities like Jávea - will generate a financial surplus, and every housewife knows that it is better to pay outstanding bills than leave the money in your purse or bank account.

Mayor, José Chulvi, has taken advantage of this situation and asked the central government to repeal the Law.

Bluefin Tuna return to the Marina Alta Coast

In the mid-nineties, indiscriminate fishing of bluefin tuna brought a brutal decline of the species as seen first hand in the fish markets of Denia, Jávea and Moraira.

Since then restrictions on capture, an annual quota system (which limits the total catch for each country, region and even boat) and extreme vigilance have enabled their recovery.

As a result the International Commission for the Conservation of Tuna (ICCAT) the regulating body, has increased the quota for Spain for 2016 by 20%, to a total limit of 3,524 tons. By 2017 this share will hopefully increase by 709 tonnes. It is reported that up to 40% of the tuna sold in Spain has a fraudulent origin The European Parliament approved the final agreement on the Regulation that will from now on settle the multi-annual recovery plan for bluefin tuna in the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean.

According to the text "Member States will

use transparent and objective criteria, especially environmental, social and economic ones, for the national allocation of quotas, giving particular attention to the preservation and prosperity of small-scale, artisanal, traditional fishermen using traps and other selective fishing methods, and to the promotion of such methods”.

First year of commercial fishing in San Antonio marine reserve yields 1,900 kilos of fish

The first year the Environment Department has authorised commercial fishing in the marine reserve of Cap de Sant Antoni has enabled the fishermen of Denia and Jávea to capture about 1,900 kilos of fish valued at 10,400 €uros.

Various scientific studies will be carried out to see the effect commercial fishing has had on marine species. 237 diving permits had been issued compared to 1455 in 2014, and licensed divers were an asset in helping to control poaching.

Jávea and the Ministry of the Environment finalised a cooperation agreement under which clubs can apply electronically for diving permits through the Helpdesk (Portal del Clot), with a response from the Ministry within two or three days.

Lee was a regular contributor to Jávea Jeard, and chose to write about the problems brought to his attention by his being a Financial Adviser, rather than those his Editor thought might be appropriate. Brightman and Andrea Bocelli sang ‘Time to say Goodbye’, but in the actual commemoration, chose to remain seated - like all those who had chairs (and who can blame her?)

I had no idea of their involvement with The Jávea Players, when Lee played the part of René in the local production of ‘Helo, Helo’. It is a DVD I wouldn’t hesitate to buy, which reminds me of Ray and Daphne Bradley recording local school and dance presentations (not forgetting the Service of Remembrance each November in the Port Church), years before DVD was available, and VHS represented the latest technology.

Ray created the first website for Jávea Computer Club, worked for the BBC, and had the common-sense to have a heart-attack whilst in the Operating Theatre filming the procedure for a future documentary, resulting in his being rushed into the adjoining theatre for his own operation.

Laura was spotted for her dance ability by Valerie Jean (whom I doubted I would recognise at Laura’s funeral, but remains unchanged after 25 years since we last met) when both were at Lady Elizabeth Primary School, Laura as a pupil and Val as extra-curricular teacher of dance.

A man and a woman were sitting beside each other in the first class section of an airplane. The woman sneezed, took out a tissue, gently wiped her nose, and then visibly shuddered for ten or fifteen seconds.

The man went back to reading his book. A few minutes later, the woman sneezed again, took a tissue, wiped her nose, and then shuddered violently once more.

Although assuming the woman might have a cold, the man was still curious about the shuddering. A few minutes passed when the woman sneezed yet again. As before she took a tissue, wiped her nose, her body shaking even more than before.

Unable to restrain his curiosity, the man turned to the woman and said, "I couldn't help but notice that you have sneezed three times, wiped your nose, and then shuddered violently. Are you okay?"

The woman replied, "I am sorry if I disturbed you. I have a rare medical condition. Whenever I sneeze, I have an orgasm."

The man, more than a bit embarrassed, was still curious. "I have never heard of that condition before, " he said.. "Are you taking anything for it?"

The woman nodded. "Black pepper."

A young Aussie lad moved to London and went to Harrods looking for a job.

Lee was my friend, but attending the service to Commemorate his life that was conducted by his Pastor, Steve Hall, I realised Lee was like a diamond and a viewer could only see one facet at a time.

Billy was a very active 66-year-old, founding member of Lakeside Wheelers Cycling Club. An Irishman, he died after he was prescribed a common painkiller for his shoulder pain while on holiday in Spain.

Mullingar was visiting Torrevieja, Spain in February and prescribed the painkiller Nolotil from a Spanish GP, which he took for five days. In April Billy returned to another GP in Spain to get a renewal for his normal medications and told the doctor he couldn’t shake cold like symptoms.

He couldn’t shake a common cold and sore throat. The GP checked him out and found his white blood cell count was very low and called an ambulance to take him to emergency straight away.”

Billy’s son Derek Smyth said the emergency department Billy attended went through a series of tests and doctors found the Nolotil drug had caused a toxic poisoning in his bone marrow, causing him to stop producing white blood cells, which are used to fight infection.

“This is a known side affect of the drug which the hospital doctors said is particularly a problem for people of British and Irish decent. The second GP who sent him to hospital afterwards also stated it was “common knowledge” not to prescribe English or Irish people this

drug,” said Derek and his sister Stephanie Hutchinson who flew to Spain to be with their dad, “who never ever complained about being sick.”

Billy developed sepsis and necrotising fasciitis as a result of the low white cell count requiring “radical surgery” to remove the affected tissue in an attempt to save his life.

“My father remained in a coma following surgery. He developed multiple organ failure, received a colostomy, kidney dialysis and many life saving measures but on April 17 my father died from septic shock due to the complications developed from taking Nolotil,” said Derek.

“We’re obviously upset that the drug prescribed to him - at the end of the day - is legal in certain countries. There’s nothing on the paperwork to say don’t give it to Irish people, it’s just common knowledge among doctors.

“My dad was there for a short time and another Irish man was admitted for illness caused by the drug. Irish people should be cautious and think twice about what they’re taking. If they even stop for a couple of seconds and think, they could save their lives,” said Derek.

“In the coming days, weeks and months, there are tens of thousands leaving Ireland and heading to Spain for

the holiday of a lifetime.”

Billy was a healthy man who loved cycling, scuba diving and swimming.

“My father was renowned for fund raising activities, voluntary efforts for local clubs and civil defence, giving up his holidays and weekends to teach thousands of people how to swim, save lives and recover countless bodies from Irish lakes, rivers and oceans so their loved ones could have closure,” said Derek.

The È drug is a brand name for Metamizole. Metamizole is an antiinflammatory drug used for the treatment of mild pain such as toothaches, headaches, arthralgia, neuralgia, myositis, mild to moderate visceral pain, and high fever.

While the drug is available in countries such as Spain, it’s banned in Ireland, the UK, US, Australia and other EU countries.

A spokesperson for the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) said Nolotil (Metamizole) has never been authorised for use in Ireland.

“In addition to Spain, metamizole has been authorised and marketed under various trade names in some other EU member states including Italy, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Luxembourg, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. including agranulocytosis (low white cell count)."

As I write this article it's August, the hottest month. I love living in Jávea but for me August has always been the worst month. At the Oasis Centre, people I meet each day who are complaining of the heat, especially during the night saying they can't sleep, and I must agree with them. Then on top of the heat the traffic and parking are a nightmare. I don't know if you agree, but some of the worst drivers seem to hit the roads during the summer period.

I suppose I am being a bit unfair because during the summer, there are a lot of visitors to Jávea and often, they don't know where they are going, so create problems for other road users.

eight years ago to Amsterdam for three weeks. As I explained, we were fortunate enough to own two apartments in Avenida Lepanto in Jávea Port, one on the third floor (where we lived) and one on the fourth floor which we kept for visitors and friends. So it was handy for us, when we wanted to swop our apartment with another family, we only had to close the front door where we lived and off we went, leaving the keys to the upstairs flat with a friend for collection. We didn't have to worry about locking away private possessions and papers, and having the worry of getting the place clean and tidy.

One of the swops we did was two weeks with a family who owned a shoe shop and lived in Auvres-sur-Oise which is situated just 47 miles north of Paris. It is a scenic village surrounded by wheat fields along the banks of the Oise river. As it is less than an hour by train from Paris, is is a popular day out for sightseers.

About the middle of July, we left our home in Jávea by car and travelled up to Figueres, on the French/Spanish border, arriving there at about 5pm. When we travel back to the UK we always stay in a small hostal in Figueres. It is very old fashioned, and the rooms are very basic but spotlessly clean. The main reason we always choose this particular hostal is that it has a large enclosed car park at the back with huge gates which are closed and locked when it gets dark. The family that run the hostal live in rooms that open onto the car park and they are always coming and going which is added protection. So we know that when we lock the car up at night, often loaded wth goodies, it's completely safe. The hostal is very popular with long distance drivers who know their lorries are safe for the night. On the ground floor of the hostal there is a bar and restaurant. The locals use the front bar and the diners are shown to a table up a few stairs at the back of the premises. We had friends who lived in Figueres and sometimes they were able to join us for a meal.

Next morning bright and early we continued our journey through France and finally arrived at Auvers in the middle of the afternoon. There were ‘guard houses at every entrance, and a refugee centre created from portacabins nor far from the house. Clive asked about the reason for such high security, and was told “We got blamed if there was a robbery so we established checkpoints to prevent indesirables from coming in.” The house was a medium sized detached, in a row of similar sized houses and in garden which seemed not to have been pruned for dozens of years. We went to the shed as instructed to find the hidden keys to the front door.

The premises were alarmed and we were warned that once the outside door was opened, there was only a short time to open the main inside front door before the alarm went off. You've guessed it! We opened the outside door, and fumbled with the keys to open the lock of the front door but couldn't find the correct key and off went the alarm, and what a loud one it was. I panicked, we couldn't open the front door and how were we to stop this infernal racket, it was loud enough to wake the dead.

Suddenly a man appeared, he was a near neighbour and had come to help us. He took the keys from Clive, put one of them in another lock much higher up on the door and hey presto the door opened and he was able to get in and disarm the alarm. The owners of the house had warned him we were coming to stay in the house for two weeks, so he wasn't surprised when the alarm went off.

The house was rather old fashioned by our standards with very large furniture. In the lounge there was the biggest wall unit that I have ever seen in my life. It spanned the whole of the back wall, floor to ceiling. The television was a bit of a disappointment, it only had French programmes!! The back garden was huge, very overgrown but obviously maintained. There were paths that took us through overhanging trees and when we finally reached the bottom of the garden, we found it backed onto the river Oise. There were four bedrooms, three with single beds and the main bedroom had a double, but we couldn't get over how low it was.

The top of the mattress was only 10” off the floor and Clive found it very difficult to get in and out of bed as there was nothing to hold onto as the walls was covered in pastel-coloured nylon material. We soon settled in, Clive found himself an office to work in and I made us a very welcome cup of tea. I spent a great deal of my fortnight there in the garden, it was warm and sunny

The individual is Francisco Pastor Espoñol in recognition of his continued solidarity and extraordinary contribution as a blood donor (he was for many years the largest donor in Spain), and for (along with his wife) their active participation in the founding of the local assembly of the Red Cross.

Francisco was counting down the visits of the donor vehicle, and knew the approximate date of his 100th donation, when a routine test discovered that his blood was no longer acceptable. Donors are automatically rejected on their 70th birthday.

The Culture Commission emphasise that Francisco is the kind of person "who gives himself to others and helping to make a better, more just and fraternal society" and that this attitude has already won him the distinction of being in the BIG LEAGUE of blood donors, as well as the Gold Medal of the Spanish Red Cross.

Many ‘oldtimers’ among the Brits in Jávea will recognise him as ‘The Beard’ the man who handled undeliverable and certified mail from his bullet-proof window in the pre-modernised Correos office. In those days there were no deliveries to urbanisations (how the fingers of the clock turn full circle) and mail for each urbanisation was sorted into cardboard trays.

Will Teresa May have the balls (pardon the pun) to ignore the Brexit majority and refuse to activate Article 50, because that fits with her own Agenda?

Some Americans have long predicted the breakup of the European Union and appear to have seen their dreams come to reality.

The Commonwealth could understand the UK wanting to have a closer trading relationship with its European neighbours but why at the expense of the Commonwealth, whose troops stood shoulder to shoulder with the British Tommy, and NOT in a queue to ‘fix’ the next EBOR rate.

Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to remain in the EU, but England voted for independence. These people, with their unique history, language and culture, want to write their own laws and rule themselves.

The English wish to remain who they are, and they do not want their country to become, in Theodore Roosevelt’s phrase, “a polyglot boarding house” for the world.

From patriots of all nations, congratulations are in order.

It will all begin to unravel now, over there, and soon over here.

Across Europe, tribalism, of all strains, is resurgent. Not only does the EU appear to be breaking up, countries appear about to break up.

Eritrea has left Ethiopia. South Sudan has seceded from Khartoum.

Nor is America immune to the populist sentiments surging in Europe.

As Trump said last week, “We got here because we switched from a policy of Americanism – focusing on what’s good for America’s middle class – to a policy of globalism, focusing on how to make money for large corporations who can move their wealth and workers to foreign countries all to the detriment of the American worker and the American economy.”

It was recently announced that in May alone, the U.S. had run a trade deficit in goods of $60 billion. This translates into an annual deficit of $720 billion in goods, or near 4 percent of GDP wiped out by purchases of foreignmade rather than U.S.-made goods.

In 40 years, we have not run a trade surplus. The most self-sufficient republic in all of history now relies for its necessities upon other nations.

What might a Trumpian policy of Americanism over globalism entail?

A 10 to 20% tariff on manufactured goods to wipe out the trade deficit in goods, with the hundreds of billions in revenue used to slash or eliminate corporate taxes in the USA. Every U.S. business would benefit.

Every global company would have an incentive not only to move production there, but its headquarters as well.

An “America first” immigration policy would secure the border, cut legal immigration to tighten U.S. labour markets, strictly enforce U.S. laws against those breaking into the country, and get tough with businesses that make a practice of hiring illegals.

In Europe and America, corporate, financial and political elites are increasingly disrespected, and transnationalism is receding. An antiestablishment, nationalist, populist wave is surging across Europe and the USA. It is an anti-insider, anti-Clinton wave, and Trump could ride it to victory.

There is no insinuation that Oscar Anton holds any of these views.

Not a good move as it was the beginning of August and the motorway was heaving with traffic as people left France to spend their annual holiday in Spain. When it was nearly dark we pulled off the motorway into the town but the hotels were full. We drove further on and after five attempts to get a room, gave up and decided to carry on driving home. We did stop for a couple of hours at about 3am at one of the service areas for a sleep in the car because we were both so tired, and finally arrived home early morning. After a quick cup of tea it was off to bed for a well deserved rest, and it was so lovely to be back in our own bed!!!

Some of our visitors at the Oasis Centre have asked if we will be closed at all during August. The answer is "No" we are still here from 10am to 2pm Monday to Saturday, and at 11am on Sundays for the Church service. We always have a good supply of greeting cards, all priced at 1€. We stock the television magazines and we offer a full range of printing facilities including prints on canvas. So for those of you who suffer the heat and traffic of August, have a good month, and try to keep cool.

Subject: UK winter fuel allowance

Dear Sir, Thank you for your letter regarding the new amendments to the UK Social Fund Winter Fuel Payment Regulations of 2015.

The amendments introduce a temperature test according to which the Winter Fuel Payment (WFP) is not payable to eligible persons living in warmer places than the warmest region of the UK - namely Portugal, Spain, Greece, France, Gibraltar, Malta and Cyprus. Hence, persons receiving the UK pension who are residing in these seven EU Member States due to the new temperature test are no longer receiving this benefit.

You believe that these amendments are contrary to the EU law and in particular to Regulation (EC) 883/2004 on the coordination of social security benefits. You seem to conclude that WFP is a pension supplement (part of a pension — old age benefit) within the meaning of Article 1 (w) of Regulation 883/2004 and therefore should be exportable under the Regulation.

According to consistent case-law of the European Union Court of Justice, the essential characteristic of “old-age benefits” lies in the fact that they are intended to safeguard the means of subsistence of persons who, when they reach a certain age, leave their employment and are no longer required to hold themselves available for work at the employment office.

WFP is not granted exclusively to pensioners, but also to workers who have reached the pensionable age for women as well as to recipients of some security benefits1. A person can receive it even if he/she is still working or receiving other social security benefits. In its recent judgment in Case C-361/I3, Commission/Slovak Republic, of 16 September 2015, the Court ruled that a benefit which “is not paid exclusively to recipients of an old-age pension” cannot be classified as old-age pension. Even though it appears the WFP will in practice mainly benefit pensioners, other categories of citizens can also claim it, such as men who did not reach a pensionable age yet (WFP is linked with women pensionable age).

Hence, in light of this recent case law WFP does not constitute an old-age pension.

Moreover, if it were to be concluded that the WFP is a pension supplement within the meaning of Regulation 883/2004, the refusal to export the WFP to Member States where “the average winter temperature is higher than the warmest region of the UK” could legitimately be justified.

The WFP is a non-contributory benefit, which can be exported, but subject to a condition of winter temperature in the Member State of residence. The very aim of the WFP is helping people to pay their heating bills.

In Case C-503/09 Lucy Stewart 3, the Court ruled that “where acquisition of entitlement to a non-contributory benefit is not subject to conditions as regards contributions, it can be considered to be legitimate for a Member State to award such benefit only after it has been established that there was a genuine link between the claimant and the competent State”, In the view of the above, a similar reasoning has to be held as regards a condition imposed to claimants who establish their residence in another Member State. A Member State can therefore limit the granting of an allowance, the aim of which is to help its beneficiaries to pay heating bills, to those who are faced with a similar or worse average winter temperature than the average winter temperature in the United Kingdom.

For the above reasons, although I regret your situation, the latest amendments to the UK’s Social Fund Winter Fuel Payment Regulations do not seem to be a breach of EU law and in particular of Regulation (EC) No

Incredibly, neither group has an MP or other government body to represent them in London.

After submitting its own petition via change.org and the UK petitions committee the Olive Press is now backing an existing petition which already has the backing of 1,000 signatories.

The petition needs to reach 10,000 by September 17 in order to warrant a response from government.

If it reaches over 100,000 signatories then the issue must be raised in the House of Commons.

Are you affected by a multicurrency mortgage loan?

Is your loan linked to the change between Euro-Swiss Franc, Euro-Yen, etc?

Multi-currency mortgages appear like normal mortgage loans, but instead of operating in €uros, they are linked to other foreign currencies. Offered by banks normally to high income customers, as a formula to benefit from the changes between currencies, in practice it has caused those affected enormous economic damage. This is

because usually the evolution of the exchange rate between the €uro and the chosen currency has been unfavourable.

These loans are usually linked to currencies like the Swiss franc, etc.

Some of those affected do not even know that they are affected, as they are unaware that the capital of their loan is linked to another currency.

Legally it is possible to claim against the bank, and request cancellation of the clauses relating to the linkage to foreign currency, since the bank did not inform consumers of the potential risks of these financial products. In addition, these loans are not referred to the normal interest, rather, like the Euribor which is the most common, instead they are normally referred to the Libor, which is an unusual and controversial interest rate.

On many occasions not only are those affected paying higher than expected monthly repayments to the bank, but also, if the change of currency is unfavourable, often the consumer could now owe even more in Euros than that which was agreed at the beginning of the loan, despite having spent many years paying the mortgage.

Many Spanish courts, including the Supreme Court in its judgment of June 2015, have pointed out that these types of loans are complex financial instruments, and therefore the bank is required to provide greater protection and information to non-expert consumers.

Although these contracts are not in themselves illegal, the lack of sufficient and accurate information to consumers who contract them, outlining the potential risks of the product, could mean that there is no real knowledge by consumers and therefore the consent given when signing is not valid, which could lead to a declaration of invalidity for lack of transparency.

It is important that the affected are consumers, ie individuals or companies not acting in the exercise of their profession, trade or business. It is important to consider product knowledge, experience in similar investments, and training and qualifications of the affected.

And there are many judgments in favour of the consumers affected by these types of multi-currency loans, including among others, the judgment of the Provincial Court of Palma de Mallorca, Judgment 122/2011 of 5 April 2011.

It is estimated that there could be anywhere between 30,000 and 60,000 such affected cases at this moment in Spain.

Possible Location of Garden of Eden Named World Heritage Site

An area in southern Iraq which many believe is the location of the biblical Garden of Eden has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The area is known as the Ahwar of Southern Iraq. Much of the area consists of marshland and has been described by UNESCO as “unique, as one of the world’s largest inland delta systems, in an extremely hot and arid environment.”

The marshland was targeted by Saddam Hussein in the 1990s as he feared rebel forces would use them as a refuge, so he had much of the water drained.

Today, the area is being restored and much of it is recovering its former habitat.

In addition to wetlands, the Ahwar contains archaeological sites that some archaeologists believe include ancient biblical cities.

“The archaeological cities of Uruk and Ur and the Tell Eridu form part of the remains of the Sumerian cities and settlements that developed in southern Mesopotamia between the 4th and the 3rd millennium BCE,” UNESCO reported.

The city of Ur is believed by some to be the biblical Ur of the Chaldees, the city that was the birthplace of Abraham and his brother, Haran.

Many of Iraq’s historical sites have been targeted by ISIS militants. Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has thus vowed that Iraq will work to protect the Ahwar “despite the destruction and demolition of Iraqi heritage and antiquities by barbaric terrorist gangs.”

good medical care are of paramount importance and far overweight the importance of transport connections.

The president also spoke of the extra provision as a support to medical staff working in August "a very difficult month" and thanked those for their efforts and dedication.

For the Mayor, the opening of this clinic is a "satisfaction" and finally "a claim that could qualify as historic where residents and visitors are served" and that, added to the endowments of the town and harbour and beaches "Allows us to say that Jávea is sanitarily safe and protects its people."

Chulvi said the Arenal quadruples its residents during the summer giving people the best possible conditions and has apologised for the delay in opening, something for which he had been criticised and explained the difficulties with the installation of the module in its first year.

"The important thing was to open with all the guarantees" noted Chulvi, who underlined that in recent days he has worked against time and good collaboration between the city, the municipal brigades works and cleaning, the Department of Health and Marina Salud.

“Now,” said the Mayor, “You are looking at the possibility that the service can be extended in September, a month in which there are still a lot of holidaymakers.

This column turns the spotlight on the otherwise ‘ordinary people’ who have chosen a job, hobby or profession of which most might remain ignorant, and so this column spotlights those people who contribute towards giving our town its character and identity.

Last month we featured the story of Maria Jose Gisbert Mulas who talked about why she had to take over her mother´s beauty salon business. when

her mother Conchi became too ill to work. Maria Jose decided she had to adapt very quickly from a beautician to becoming a businesswoman.

This month our Spotlight switches to Pere Sapena Segarra who was elected as a councillor by Xábia Democratica to head the Department for Municipal Town Planning. Prior to 2011 it was almost impossible to get a building or project application through the townhall within a reasonable time frame, resulting in illegal building, so Pere’s no nonsense approach was a breath of fresh air when he entered the townhall and dramatically reduced the time from 18 months to around 3.

Apart from approving council planning applications he also had to tackle and find solutions regarding illegal builds which - over his term - he did, making him popular with voters.

His hobby and passion in his spare time is training to run in both half and full marathons.

Pere Sapena Segarra was born on the 16th June 1962 in Jávea in a house situated in Carrer Roques near to the Clot. As a child he attended the Vicente Tena School after which he studied at the Jávea Instituto.

During the last few years of study at the Institute, Pere and two other students voiced their opinions that architecture should be offered as a course.

In his final year in 1979 the Institute introduced an architectural course in which Pere and his two student friends enrolled. Pere passed the exam which gave him entry into Valencia Polytechnic, although the other two students unfortunately failed the exam and dropped out.

Pere joined the Polytechnic,Valencia in 1980 and studied a degree in Architecture for 8 years although it is possible for the course to take 10 years to complete. It was here that he met his future wife Anna as she was the girl who sat next to him and they constantly chatted about lots of different things.

After they both qualified in 1988, Anna decided to follow Pere back to Jávea where together they became selfemployed architects. In 1989, Pere was invited to attend a 3 day examination in Pego as he was interested in becoming a Municipal Architect. After being shortlisted he eventually won the position and worked for Pego Council as an approved Municipal Planner.

A Municipal Planner is responsible for all urbanistic matters including technical issues that crop up. Although politicians might promise you they will build new roads, hospitals and houses to win your vote it is really up to the Municipal Town Planner to give written approvals as they must resist illegal building and national and local laws and rules must be thoroughly checked before approvals can be given. The Municipal Town Planner is legally responsible for any building application or project and so if there are any errors or omissions heavy fines or imprisonments can be imposed on them whereas the politician

is free from all liabilities and prosecutions.

In 1992, Pere married Anna in Valencia and after a while had two children, David (now 23) and Noria (21). Both their adult children are following in their parents’ footsteps, completing their final years at the Valencia Polytechnic, where they too are hoping to qualify as architects to carry on the family tradition.

After working for Pego Council for 15 years, Pere decided in 2004 to take a two year sabbatical break and during this time he became President of a local association affiliated to the Xábia Historical Centre.

His voluntary work within the association included checking council schemes like new road layouts and urban development plans. The work was important because Pere had to legally ensure these schemes would not interfere, damage or destroy any existing archaeological sites that were preserved in the area. Eventually this affiliation attracted other local organisations and so the Historical Society, Penya Marina and Xábia Port Commercial and Construction became a new local environmental group.

Between 2006 and 2008 the new group called themselves Xábia Millora and - in time - evolved into a political party. In 2011 they joined forces with Oscar Anton and others to form Xábia Democratica Party where they shared many votes giving them a voice in the townhall with three elected councillors.

During this time Pere was asked to become the Head of Municipal Town Planning for Xábia, and resigned his job in Pego.

After Xabia Democratica Party lost their battle to win the local 2015 elections, Pere left Jávea Townhall and became an independent architectural consultant where he and Anna provide planning and building consultancy services.

About 9 years ago, Pere’s brother Juseppe persuaded him to start running as a hobby. Pere said he would run around the town, doing a few kilometres and eventually his body started to crave for him to run further. Pere said “The brain triggers serotonin during exercise and this feeling is very euphoric giving a feeling of well-being and satisfaction.”

join a running club called S.M Club D´Ahetisme LLebeig-Xábia. After further training and encouragement he decided to tour the Marina Alta entering into half marathons which is a distance of 10km. After completing a year’s worth of half marathons, in 2010 he decided to enter his first full marathon which is a distance of 42.195km. His first marathon run was in Paris where he competed with sixty thousand other people who all wanted to set or beat their own personal best times. For Pere he set a time of 4 hrs 15 mins. The next marathon came in 2011, in Madrid, where he ran a best time of 4hrs 3 mins.

uneven paving slabs in some areas notably around the Colosseum where the paving stones give way to larva slabs. His time of 4hrs 30 mins showed his difficulty. This was the year when Pere decided to complete two full marathons and so in the October he ran in Venice. “The weather was atrocious we had high winds, rain and it was a very cold day” says Pere. “You begin the course some 25km to the west of Venice and although you run through some special places along the route I distinctively remember the hardest part crossing the Liberty Bridge which is a straight 4 km bridge but with winds and rain battering you across an open bridge spanning over the sea it can take its toll.

It was so cold that the water stations had closed and battling through the narrow streets against other competitors I just wanted to hurry up and get across the finish line in St Marks Basin.” In April 2013 Pere kept his double marathon appearances up where he first competed in the Segorbe Challenge, which is a full marathon running up and around this mountainous town in Costelló. The course of the marathon is mainly on mountainous pathways with no asphalt and so his time for this race was 6hrs 14 mins. In October Pere took part in the Berlin marathon which he says was very well organised and his best time was

4hrs.

came in 2014 when he took part in the race between Castillion to San Juan de Penyagolosa which rises 1,280 metres above sea level. On this particular day he ran 115 km where he started at 6am and crossed the finish line around 5pm, although there were other competitors who did not make it back until the following morning.

In 2015 Pere entered the Valencia Marathon which was routine he said and he also completed the Navacas to Baracas or Greenways route which follows a disused railway line.

His best time came in April this year when he completed the Vienna Marathon in 3 hrs 50 mins not only did he attain his personal best but he enjoyed the marathon as well.

Pere’s tips for running a marathon are the same as taking examinations, that is to remain focused but keep calm.

Pere has no special diets and enjoys good food with an occasional wine or beer, he runs marathons to keep in good health. He said eating a balanced diet means a variety of proteins, sugar and carbohydrates and you must have at least 7 hours rest per day.

Looking at Pere’s training session made me feel tired, every Tuesday and Thursday he runs between 17 and 18km in about 1hr 30mins and on Sundays he completes 20 km which takes between 2 and 2 ½ hours.

When Pere relaxes he enjoys gardening, listening to classical music, reading his books and going to the cinema with Anna. At the moment Pere is making plans to run the London Marathon 2017 so we wish him all the best of luck.

Over 17,500 people had signed the petition in the first few days. Their reasoning is uncomplicated: “Many have chosen to live here and call Spain our home, while many of us have started businesses here and are now raising families.

“On top of this, plenty of us have Spanish partners and speak your language, albeit often not perfectly.

“We feel we contribute a lot to the local economy, particularly on the coast, and historically our links to Spain, via writers such as Paul Preston, Gerald Brenan and Laurie Lee, is massive.

“Above all, we feel European and entirely opposed to Brexit, brought about by xenophobic campaigning and lies back home.

“Yet we are the ones in the firing line… and the ones most likely to be affected by it. We hope you understand our plight that leaves us in limbo and could make us ineligible to work.

“Your minister Senor Margallo has said as much.

“In the UK, a Spaniard can get joint citizenship after five years – a fact ironically known by Margallo whose own son, based in London, has recently applied.

“So we are asking, hoping – even pleading – that you come to our aid and help us when we most need it.

“A few local mayors and dignitaries have already come out and said it. Now we need everyone to help.

“It is fitting that our appeal should come exactly 80 years since the start of the civil war, in which thousands of young British volunteers lost their lives.

was your favourite ‘fast food’ when you were growing up?”

“We didn't have fast food when I was growing up” I informed him.

“All the food was slow.”

“C'mon, seriously … Where did you eat?”

“It was a place called 'home,” I explained.

“Mum cooked every day and when she got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, And if I didn't like what she put on my plate, I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.”

By this time, the lad was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table.

But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I'd figured his system could have handled it: Some parents NEVER owned their own house, wore jeans, set foot on a golf

course, travelled out of the country or had a credit card.

My parents never drove me to school … I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed (slow). Before I had a bike I walked.

We didn't have a television in our house until I was 7.

It was, of course, black and white, and the station went off the air at 10pm, after playing the national anthem and epilogue; it came back on the air at about 12 noon.

Pizzas were not delivered to our home … but milk was.

All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered newspapers - I delivered a newspaper, seven days a week. I had to get up at 5.30 every morning except Sunday when I had a lie-in until 6.30.

Film stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least, they did in the films.

There were no movie ratings because all movies were responsibly produced for everyone to enjoy viewing, without

Police surprise two men fishing in the Marine Reserve

August/Sept. 2016

Local maritime police officers surprised two men who were fishing in the marine reserve of Cap de Sant Antoni, where fishing is illegal. The discovery was made during one of the daily patrols along the coast.

The police opened infringement proceedings against a French national, and for fishing with a boat in a protected area and apprehending fish.

In addition, they seized all the couple’s gear like guns, wetsuits and buoys.

According to Jávea Townhall, sport fishing is prohibited in the marine reserve, a protected area within the Montgo Natural Park. This year, a new campaign has been launched to monitor this criminal poaching, and is an activity. that depletes the seabed, and the illegal sale of fish.

That’ll be another two tourists who don’t come back. When our Summer occupation equals that in the Winter, those in the Townhall will no doubt lift up their hands and blame ‘climate change’.

Brits used to apply to Alicante for their renewal passports, and turn up once a year at an important place in their area to re-register.

Then everything was sent to Madrid, and since then, to Belfast.

Now you can do it from your own home - if you have a computer or smart phone.

You will need your old Passport and credit or debt card to (preferably) pay in GBP(£).

The cost remains unchanged £ 83,00 for new passport £ 9,30 for delivery of new passport £ 10,16 to return the cancelled passport. £102,86 I know it doesn’t add up, but I’m not a civil servant!

It’s now that the fun starts, Photos in Jávea could only be produced at a photo shop like Antonio Aguardo, but now, you or a friend can take a photo on a mobile phone and upload it to the passport office. They used to reject them if they were 1mm too small or too large, but now they will take whatever size you send them and they will make it the size they want. I’ll be interested in how people manage with them or a friend taking one on their own phone. The guide rules still apply.

It was only a year ago when the then British Consul in Alicante, admitted to me that the visit by a couple planning to marry, had to visit the Consul by appointment, pay 320€ and wait three weeks for a letter stating there was NO IMPEDIMENT. How would they know, they never asked anyone. Spaniards don’t need one from the Embassy and according to the Spanish Law neither does anyone else. Trouble is, some anti-british Justices of the Peace still insist on seeing one, though they issue them free of charge to Spaniards.

Of course it’s not RACIST, that would be illegal. “Just make the fool fun a bit further” as Colin Marcus would often quote.

Rita Barbera, the former PP Leader of the Valencia Generalitat, used her cousin’s villa in Tosalet, but her relacement can find his own way here by chauffeur driven limo, but deprives the rest of us from getting to our Capital City by telling us we’ve never had it so good and should regard 7Km from Gata and 13Km over the mountain top to Denia and pretty well double that via la Jara.

Of course it becomes easy to break you word when you are in the PSOE and talking to people where a landslide voted for José Chulvi, not because he was PSOE but because he behaved like a politician.

The same week he promised that 40,000,000€ will be spent on the FGV or ‘Almond Express’ to Calpe, we are told there is no money to connect Denia with Gandia or Xerasco and Valencia.

Perhaps he wants us to return to 30 or 40 years ago when lack of transport caused Javienses to inter-breed with adults still being instructed at the Adult Workshop opposite La Jara station. Perhaps José Chulvi should join the dots up for Chimo when next they meet.

Does Chimo wear blinkers like a horse preventing him from looking beyond Valencia, yet remembering the broken promises about the covered swimming pool for Jávea.

The new Municipal elections are not too far away. Let’s make it a manfesto

issue but Chimo won’t care too much if it’s José’s head on the block. It is time Jávea was connected by rail to Valencia. Let’s face it, the line to Alicante doesn’t qualify as much more than a tourist attraction. CR

Towns without a rail line are living in the backwater! Jávea needs to look to the future and this must be instilled with the powers that be. The A7 is so expensive ONE OF OUR and if there was a READERS WROTE train service to the airport I am sure most people would certainly use it. I have never heard of a new airport being built where they have not installed a train terminal! We always return to Stansted Airport where there is a choice of transport for the onward journey. Not in Spain! They seem to do many things differently here! One day someone will realise the importance of a full rail service to all parts of the country. Geoff Spinks.

In my opinion she won’t do that, until she has negotiated the UK’s best position with all the other EU Member States. ONLY ONE (valid) ITV STICKER ALLOWED ON YOUR WINDSCREEN

The Courts in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have imposed a fine of 540 €uro on a 33-year old woman who changed the ITV sticker on her vehicle so as to pretend that her car had successfully passed the mandatory test.

The case took two years to get to court and was brought about after two local police officers from Las Palmas attended an incident in the El Lasso area.

A vehicle check indicated that one of the cars had not undertaken a successful ITV test, and had not been considered roadworthy for some months, despite the vehicle displaying a sticker on the windscreen.

The officers submitted a report for proceedings of a crime of forgery of public documents.

Once the case reached the courts the judge considered the evidence sufficient to prove that a fraudulent act had taken place and therefore condemned the vehicle owner to pay the 540 euro fine over a period of two months.

It is a mandatory requirement for vehicles which have reached the statutory age to display an ITV sticker in the windscreen, which is colour coded in accordance with the year of expiry and contains the expiry date.

Only one ITV sticker should be displayed at any one time and so once

the next test has been passed and a new sticker issued, the previous one should be removed. The sticker should also be placed in the top right hand side of the windscreen (as you look out), so that officers looking out for it will be able to see the data more quickly and are less likely to have to force you to stop whilst they check the details.

It is also mandatory to carry the ITV card and report with you in the vehicle as one of the documents you must carry in the car, along with the Permiso de Circulacion.

This is how you act when the Police tell you to STOP

Amongst their duties, the Guardia Civil is tasked with controlling road traffic to ensure road safety and to prevent the commission of offenses which endanger road users, and provide assistance if necessary.

When an official vehicle wants you to stop, it will display a flashing red light in addition to the blue lights. This red light means you must stop your vehicle by manoeuvring to the right hand side of the road.

You must stop your vehicle in a place where it doesn’t cause an increased risk to other road users, if this is not possible, you must continue until you can stop in a safe place.

The patrol will stop their vehicle behind yours. All the occupants of your vehicle must remain inside the vehicle.

The officer will approach you on the right side of your vehicle to notify the reason for stopping you.
