Selena Gomez is a name we all know and love—and for good reason. From singing catchy hits to starring in binge-worthy shows, she’s proven herself as a true force in the entertainment world. Starting out as a child actress on “Barney & Friends,” she’s grown into a multi-talented icon, now engaged to music producer Benny Blanco. Her story is one of grit, heart, and staying unapologetically authentic.
“I’VE GROWN UP IN FRONT OF EVERYONE’S EYES - IT HASN’T ALWAYS BEEN EASY, BUT every experience has made me who I am today.”
“I’ve grown up in front of everyone’s eyes,” Selena once reflected in an interview. “It hasn’t always been easy, but every experience has made me who I am today.” This quote encapsulates her inspiring trajectory, a blend of personal triumphs and challenges that have shaped her into a global icon.
Born on July 22, 1992, in Grand Prairie, Texas, Selena Marie Gomez was named after the legendary Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla. Her mother, Mandy Teefey, played a pivotal role in fostering Selena’s creativity, despite financial struggles. “My mom had me when she was 16,” Selena shared. “She sacrificed so much for me. Watching her work so hard showed me what determination really looks like.”
“I WANTED RARE BEAUTY TO BE MORE THAN JUST MAKEUPIt’s about embracing imperfections and celebrating individuality.”
Selena’s first foray into entertainment came with a role on the beloved children’s show “Barney & Friends.” Portraying Gianna from 2002 to 2004, Selena’s bubbly personality and natural talent shone through. “That was my training ground,” she recalled. “Barney taught me discipline and how to embrace who I am.”
In 2007, Selena landed her breakout role as Alex Russo in the Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place.” The show’s mix of magic and humour resonated with audiences, propelling Selena to teen stardom. “Alex was everything I wanted to be,” she confessed. “Confident, witty, and unapologetically herself. Playing her helped me find my voice.” Her time with Disney wasn’t limited to television.
Selena starred in fan-favourite TV movies like “Another Cinderella Story” (2008) and “Princess Protection Program” (2009). Despite her success, she later admitted that the pressure of being a Disney star took its toll. “There were moments when I felt like I had to be perfect all the time,” she said in a candid interview. “It was a lot to handle, especially as a teenager.”
While acting brought her fame, music became Selena’s personal sanctuary. In 2009, she formed Selena Gomez & the Scene, releasing upbeat pop hits like “Naturally” and “Who Says.” The latter became an anthem for selfacceptance, a theme Selena passionately champions. “Music
gave me a way to connect with people on a deeper level,” she shared. “It’s where I pour my heart and tell my story.”
Her solo career took off with the release of “Stars Dance” in 2013, featuring the sultry single “Come & Get It.” Albums like “Revival” (2015) and “Rare” (2020) followed, showcasing her evolution as an artist. Songs like “Lose You to Love Me,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100, offered a raw glimpse into her emotional journey. Selena has often credited music as her saving grace. “There were moments when I didn’t think I’d find my way, but music gave me purpose and a way to heal.”
In 2014, Selena was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease that led to a kidney transplant in 2017. Her friend Francia Raisa donated the kidney, an act Selena described as “the ultimate gift of life.” “That experience changed everything for me,” she said. “It reminded me of how fragile life is and how important it is to prioritize health—both physical and mental.”
Selena’s openness about her struggles with anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder has made her a powerful advocate for mental health. She launched Rare Beauty in 2020 with the goal of promoting self-love and breaking beauty standards. “I wanted Rare Beauty to be more than just makeup,” she explained. “It’s about embracing imperfections and celebrating individuality.” In 2021, she founded the Rare Impact Fund to raise $100 million for mental health resources. “Mental health is just as important as physical health,” Selena told Glamour. “I want to help create a world where people feel empowered to seek help and talk about their struggles.”
Selena’s romantic relationships have often been in the public eye, including her high-profile romance with Justin Bieber. However, it’s her relationship with Benny Blanco that has captured hearts recently. The couple met in 2019 while collaborating on the track “I Can’t Get Enough” and started dating in mid-2023. “Benny understands me in a way no one else ever has,” Selena revealed in an Instagram post. “He makes me feel safe and loved.”
Their relationship has been described as a partnership built on mutual respect and creativity. “We push each other to be better,” Selena shared during a podcast interview. “I’m so grateful to have someone who believes in me wholeheartedly.”
On December 11, 2024, Selena and Benny announced their engagement. Benny proposed with a marquise-shaped diamond ring, symbolising their unique bond. “When he asked me to marry him, I felt this overwhelming sense of joy,” Selena told Vogue. “It was the easiest ‘yes’ of my life.” Fans celebrated the news, flooding social media with messages of love and support. Benny also shared his excitement, saying, “Selena is my person. She’s my best friend and the love of my life.”
The couple’s first major public appearance postengagement was at the 2025 Golden Globes, where Selena was nominated for her work in “Only Murders in the Building” and the film “Emilia Pérez.” Dressed in a stunning red gown, Selena was the picture of happiness as she posed with Benny by her side. “Having Benny here tonight makes this moment even more special,” she gushed during an interview on the red carpet.
Their appearance sparked a wave of admiration, with many dubbing them a “power couple” destined to redefine Hollywood romance. Benny, always supportive, praised Selena’s talent, saying, “She’s the most hardworking and genuine person I know.”
Philanthropy has always been close to Selena’s heart. In January 2025, she and Benny participated in charitable efforts during the Los Angeles fires, handing out food to first responders. “We owe so much to these heroes,” Selena said. “This is just a small way to show our appreciation.”
Selena has also continued her work with UNICEF, an organisation she has supported since 2009. Her efforts include advocating for clean water initiatives and children’s education. “Giving back has always been a part of who I am,” Selena stated. “It’s a way to spread love and make a real difference.”
As she embarks on this new chapter of her life, her fans eagerly anticipate what’s next. Whether it’s through her music, acting, or advocacy, Selena’s journey is far from over. “The best is yet to come,” she teased in a recent interview. “I’m excited to see what the future holds, both personally and professionally.”

Conversations about mental health have become more open in recent years, yet stigma persists, often preventing those in need from seeking support. Outlet Ten Discussions is an initiative dedicated to dismantling these barriers, challenging stereotypes, and fostering understanding, dialogue, and personal growth.
Founded by Anne-Marie Amaa, a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, Outlet Ten Discussions creates spaces where individuals can feel heard, supported, and empowered. Through a series of in-person events held throughout the year, the series provides an accessible alternative to traditional therapy, which can often be daunting or financially out of reach for many.
“It’s okay not to be okay,” Anne-Marie emphasises, as each workshop offers a safe and inclusive environment for participants to confront their challenges. These events blend education, empowerment, and connection while encouraging
attendees to address their struggles to tap into their potential. By fostering a positive mindset, participants are inspired to set and achieve meaningful goals, enhancing personal growth and mental well-being.
Outlet Ten Discussions go beyond individual healing, actively promoting a culture of empathy, acceptance, and shared experiences. Each event underscores the importance of addressing mental health collectively, reminding participants that they are not alone on their journey.
By challenging stigma and encouraging open conversations, Outlet Ten Discussions paves the way for a future where mental health is recognised and respected. This initiative is more than just a program - it’s a movement empowering people and strengthening communities.

As we step into 2025, it’s time to reimagine how we approach our health and well-being. Nutrition and fitness aren’t just about short-term resolutions; they’re about creating sustainable, longterm habits that support a thriving, energetic lifestyle. Here’s a guide to setting realistic goals this year and staying on track.
The foundation of any health goal is a well-balanced diet. Instead of restrictive dieting or chasing the latest food trends, focus on incorporating variety and balance into your meals.
Prioritise whole foods: Build your meals around nutrientdense whole foods, including fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats. Aim to “eat the rainbow” by including a diverse range of colourful produce.
Stay hydrated: Proper hydration is essential for energy, digestion, and overall health. Aim for at least 8 cups of water daily, adjusting for activity levels and climate.
Limit added sugars and processed foods: While occasional indulgences are fine, try to minimise ultra-processed snacks and beverages. Instead, opt for natural alternatives like fresh fruit, nuts, or homemade snacks.
Exercise is vital for physical and mental health, but setting unrealistic goals can lead to burnout or injury. Tailor your fitness objectives to your lifestyle and gradually increase intensity over time.
Hybrid workouts: Combine strength training, cardio, and flexibility exercises into your weekly routine for well-rounded fitness. For example, pair weightlifting sessions with yoga or cycling.
Micro workouts: Short on time? Even 10-15 minutes of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) or a brisk walk can make a difference when done consistently.
Outdoor activities: Incorporate outdoor fitness, like running, or biking, to enjoy the mental health benefits of being in nature.
Consistency beats perfection when it comes to long-term success. Develop habits that fit into your daily routine and make adjustments as needed.
Create a schedule: Block out specific times for meal prep, workouts, and rest. Treat these appointments as nonnegotiable commitments.
Track your progress: Use a fitness tracker, app, or journal to monitor your goals. Celebrate milestones to stay motivated. Be flexible: Life happens. If you miss a workout or indulge in comfort food, don’t let it derail your progress. Focus on getting back on track the next day.
Remember, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Your goals should reflect your unique lifestyle, preferences, and needs. Take the time to assess what works best for you and be open to adjustments as you progress.
Questions to Guide Your Goal Setting:
What is my “why” for improving my nutrition and fitness this year?
What small, actionable steps can I take today?
How will I measure progress beyond the scale (e.g., energy levels, strength gains, or improved mood)?
Ultimately, your nutrition and fitness journey should enhance your life, not add stress. Find joy in movement, savour delicious and nourishing meals, and celebrate your body’s capabilities. By setting realistic goals and embracing a sustainable approach, you can make 2025 your healthiest year yet. Small, consistent efforts lead to big results over time —start today and enjoy the journey to a better you!

Here’s to a new year of endless possibilities, hope and winning the ‘You vs You’ challenge.
February is a pivotal month. No, no we’re not talking about Valentines Day although for some… it must be nice. No, February is the month signifying love, renewal and hope. We are saying goodbye to winter, we’ve just survived Blue Monday and we are peeking into the brighter days of Spring. The dawn of Spring calls for a mental and physical declutter! – A spring clean for the soul!
I’m sure you’ve all heard the age-old adage of ‘Tidy home, Tidy mind?’ Well, it’s absolutely true, studies have shown that dirty or messy homes increase cortisol levels which is already, bad for your health! So, let’s embrace the fresh start of Spring, banish away the winter blues and gain some mental clarity through the art of decluttering!
The act of making space for physical declutter is closely connected to building optimism. A cluttered mind or environment can weigh you down. By removing mess, piles and an ever-growing list of tasks, you’re creating a space that reflects a more optimistic, energetic, proactive, take control, grab the bull by the horns, lighter version you. By taking control of your environment, you’re choosing to take control of your life and for another cliché, but very apt saying, ‘What you don’t change, you’re choosing’.
So, you’ve decided now’s the time to declutter your mind, your space, your soul. The little voice in your head is either your biggest cheerleader or your most relentless critic. By focusing on ‘You vs. You’ this year, the entire process becomes a personal journey of fostering growth, positivity and looking ahead with a clear mind.
To some of you, this process is nothing new. More often, you’d declutter 2-3 times a year, but for others, who may be stuck in a rut, hoarding old memories and scared for change, living in a perpetual state of being frozen in time, the idea of clearing out and starting again, minimising what we have in our space and our environment sometimes removes our comfort blanket from around us and is a daunting experience.
Not everyone has the strength or mental resolve to do this, so here we are with a step by step on how to declutter your life!
What do you want to achieve? Starting a declutter is a mammoth task and can easily become overwhelming once you start doing it. Whether it’s a physical declutter or a mental one, it’s important to write down your intentions and what you want to get out of it.
Define your goal. What is it you want? Why do you want it? How do you want to feel once you’ve done it? Visualise what your finished space looks like: how do you feel in it? Do you feel safe and comfortable? Do you feel relaxed now that you have achieved this and deserve to enjoy the space you’re in?
Also, don’t beat yourself up if you make grandiose plans at the start but don’t quite achieve what you set out to in the first instance. Every little bit of progress is progress and a milestone completed closer to your end goal.
Getting
Are you stuck laying in a heap of your own memories, clutter, pictures, odd shoes and weird TikTok contraptions you’ve acquired over the years? Are you struggling to work out what’s worth holding on to or what is worth letting go?
It’s always worth reframing the task and shifting the mindset away from loss when you ask yourself the question “does this item support the life I am trying to create?” No, that TikTok shoe umbrella does not support your efforts to become a fashion blogger this year.
3. Start small, grow big and don’t forget to clap for the little wins.
Decluttering, especially after a major life event, can be both traumatising and overwhelming. If necessary, break down the task into small, manageable bite-sized chunks completed over a series of days. If there’s tasks which you feel you can’t do on your own, recruit your friends and family to support you, order food, have some wine, make it a more enjoyable experience especially if the job itself is an emotional one.
For a physical declutter, I would use a “Four Box Method”. Keep, Donate, Recycle, Throw away.
book, I’d read and re-read them multiple times, they reminded me of when me and my Granny shared a room growing up and I would sit in my bed next to hers and read until I fell asleep. I remember feeling grateful at the time and hoping that whoever took these books from the charity shop would enjoy them as much as I did. Be grateful for the time spent whilst welcoming in the new space their absence is creating.
Once the hard part is done and you can see the wood through the trees, your post de-clutter clarity has kicked in and you’re relaxing in your new clean, minimalist environment, now’s the time to keep it clutter free, for your surroundings and your mind.
One in, one out. For every new item you bring into your home, you let something else go. This helps to maintain the equilibrium of new and old and balance clean and cluttered. Try and keep on top of the clutter daily. Daily meditation for mind clarity, daily maintenance of your environment, just 10 minutes a day can be so impactful to your mental health.
“THE LITTLE VOICE IN YOUR HEAD IS EITHER YOUR BIGGEST CHEERLEADER OR YOUR MOST RELENTLESS CRITICNot everyone has the strength or mental resolve to do this”
Sometimes the removal of items you’ve been holding onto for so long is difficult enough when they’re being thrown away. The process can be a lot easier when you’re donating your things to someone else to use and love.
4. Goodbye and thank you.
It takes a lot to get rid of items in your life which once served you well, saw you through challenging times or built a framework of memories which shaped the person you are today. That sounds very dramatic but more often than not, a declutter calls for the removal of items which hold no value to anyone else, but once held value to you.
I remember when I was younger, I had to make space for a work desk at home which meant getting rid of my childhood collection of Goosebumps books. I cried taking them to the charity shop because even though they were worthless as a
The goal here is to find clarity, confidence and fulfilment. Clarity to steer you well into the life you’re trying to create. Confidence in the fact that you’re in charge of your own destiny, the driver of your own bus and these small habits positively impact you each time. Fulfilment in knowing your space reflects your aspirations of how you want to live your life and where you want to be.
The result of these is to choose optimism as a lifestyle, as a daily practice. To constantly de clutter, realign, re focus, you’re building a more resilient, positive mindset. Letting go of the things which no longer serve your purpose to make space for things that will help to positively reinforce your journey to a better you.
If decluttering isn’t something that was on your bingo card for this month, I would recommend giving it a go.
Start small. Declutter a small area each day this month with the goal to reach the goal you set yourself for the end of the month. Make a commitment to the most important relationship in your life; the one with yourself.
Go forth, energised, enthused and lighter.

Lizzi’s awareness of what she was putting on her skin changed dramatically when she became pregnant with her first child. Until then, she had trusted that all cosmetics were rigorously regulated and safe to use. However, her research revealed unsettling truths about common ingredients.
Then, when her eldest son was three, he experienced a severe allergic reaction to a “child-friendly” bubble bath. A patch test revealed that the parabens in the fragrance were the culprit. This incident reinforced Lizzi’s commitment to eliminating harmful chemicals from her family’s skincare products. She became determined to use natural products that were not only safe for sensitive skin but also cruelty-free, palm oil-free, and vegan.
During her research into natural skincare, Lizzi discovered cold-processed soap and was captivated by its beauty. This curiosity sparked a year-long journey of perfecting her recipes and soap-making techniques. Today, Lizzi channels her love of nature, the changing seasons, and the landscapes of Kent, East Sussex, and Pembrokeshire into creating stunning, handcrafted soap art.

chicken
These Mexican-inspired wraps go deliciously crispy in an air fryer, but a regular frying pan works just as well.
Serves 6
Prep 25 mins
Cook 35 mins
Ingredients
1 pack Waitrose Slow Cooked Smoky
Chipotle Chicken • 1 unwaxed lime, zest and juice • 150ml sour cream • 150g red cabbage, shredded •
½ red onion, finely sliced • 400g black beans, drained and rinsed • 250g pack microwaveable wholegrain rice
• 6 Essential Large Tortilla Wraps • 175g mature Cheddar cheese, grated
• 1 Waitrose & Partners Extra Large
Perfectly Ripe Avocado
No air fryer? Cook the chicken in the oven according to pack instructions. Assemble the burritos, then put them seam-side down in a hot, dry frying pan set over a medium heat, cooking for a couple of minutes on each side until golden.
Method
Heat an air fryer to 180 o C. Set aside the sauce sachet, then empty the chicken bag into an ovenproof dish. Cover with foil and bake in the air fryer for 15 minutes (or in the oven according to pack instructions). Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix the lime zest and soured cream; season and set aside. In a separate bowl, toss together the cabbage, onion, lime juice and a pinch of salt; set aside.
Remove the foil from the chicken; drain off any juices. Shred the meat, then stir through the reserved sauce and the black beans. Return to the air fryer, uncovered, for 10 minutes until piping hot throughout. Meanwhile, heat the rice according to pack instructions.
Lay a tortilla wrap on a clean surface. Add a sprinkling of cheese, then top with some chicken, rice, pickled cabbage and avocado.
Fold the sides of tortilla inwards over the filling. Holding the sides in place, lift the bottom flap of the wrap up and over the sides to enclose the filling. Roll over the top of the tortilla so you end up with the seam on the bottom.
Repeat using the remaining ingredients to make 6 burritos. Transfer to the air fryer, seam-side down, and cook in batches for 5-6 minutes until lightly golden and crisp (or see tip to cook in a pan). Serve with the lime soured cream on the side.

rice bowl
Inspired by Korean bibimbap, this umami-rich dish makes smart use of a few key products to up the plant content. You can swap in any stir fry mix you fancy.
Serves 4
Prep 10 mins
Cook 30 mins
Ingredients
2 x 250g packs British beef rump stir fry strips •
4 tsp Cooks’ Ingredients Gochujang Chilli Paste •
2 tbsp light soy sauce • 2 clove/s garlic, crushed
• 250g LoveLife Red Camargue & Wild Rice (or use ready-cooked mixed grains) • 3 tbsp toasted sesame oil • 2 x 265g packs water chestnut & bamboo stir fry • 4 eggs • ½ x 400g jar Vadasz
Raw Kimchi • 2 tbsp black sesame seeds
Method
In a large bowl, mix the beef strips with 2 tsp gochujang, 1 tbsp soy sauce and the garlic until well combined; cover and transfer to the fridge to marinate while you cook the rice (or up to 24 hours ahead).
Meanwhile, cook the rice (or mixed grains) according to pack instructions. After 15 minutes, set a large wok or frying pan over a high heat, add 2 tbsp sesame oil, then the beef and its marinade; stir fry until all the edges are a deep golden brown (4-5 minutes). Transfer to a plate, then add the stir fry veg to the wok and fry for 6 minutes until piping hot. Stir in the remaining 2 tsp gochujang paste and 1 tbsp soy sauce; take the wok off the heat.
In a frying pan, heat the remaining 1 tbsp sesame oil over a medium-high heat; fry the eggs for 1-2 minutes until the whites are crispy and the yolks done to your liking. Once the rice is cooked, drain and divide between 4 warm bowls with the beef, veg and kimchi, then top each with a fried egg. Sprinkle over the sesame seeds and serve.
Cold noodles still haven’t quite taken off in the UK, but everyone we know who has spent time in Korea or Japan, says they’re the dishes they crave most when they go back. Remember, the spicier the sauce, the more refreshing the noodles!
Serves 4
Prep 20 mins Cook 15 mins
250g pack soba noodles • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil • 2 British Blacktail Medium Free Range Eggs • 1 cucumber, cut into matchsticks • 1 conference pear, peeled and finely sliced • 60g kimchi, chopped • ½ carrot, peeled and cut into matchsticks
• ¼ red cabbage, thinly sliced • 1 sheet of nori, torn into 2.5cm pieces, to serve • Sesame seeds, to serve
Gochujang sauce
2 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted • 4 tbsp Cooks’ Ingredients Gochujang Chilli Paste
• 1 tsp soy sauce • 2 tbsp rice vinegar • 1 tbsp caster sugar • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil • 1 clove/s garlic, crushed
For the gochujang sauce, crush the sesame seeds using a pestle and mortar or spice grinder. In a small bowl, use a fork to combine the remaining sauce ingredients; add the crushed sesame seeds, mix well until smooth, then set aside.
Bring a large pan of water to the boil and cook the noodles according to pack instructions, stirring frequently. Once cooked, drain the noodles and rinse under cold water to cool completely. Drain well and toss with the sesame oil to prevent sticking; set aside. Bring a second pan of water to the boil and cook the eggs for 9 minutes, then drain and run under cold water. Once the eggs are cool enough to handle, peel and set aside.
Tip ½ of the cold noodles into a serving bowl and spoon ½ of the gochujang sauce over them. Pile up ½ of the cucumber, pear, kimchi, carrot and red cabbage, then repeat with the remaining noodles, sauce and vegetables. Cut the eggs in ½ and arrange on top. Sprinkle over the torn nori and sesame seeds. Mix everything together with a spoon and chopsticks (bibim means ‘mixed’ in Korean) and enjoy!
Second babies. What little blessings they are. They show up, slot themselves perfectly into your family like the missing puzzle piece you didn’t even know you needed, and suddenly your world is fuller, louder, and somehow even more magical. Before they arrive, you’re sat there thinking, surely I could never truly love another tiny human as much as my first? And then they’re here and it’s like your heart just doubles in size, love at first sight all over again, leaving you wondering how you ever lived without them.
Second time round, everything just felt easier for me. Mothering came more naturally, the anxieties weren’t quite as overwhelming (though those intrusive thoughts? Yep, they’re still hanging around like a kid who’s just discovered the phrase “but why?”). Even the sleepless nights didn’t bother me—I just embraced the chaos like some sort of caffeine-fuelled warrior (now I was allowed to freely have as much caffeine as I wanted, I was truly unstoppable). And the second C-section I’d been absolutely dreading? A total breeze compared to the first. (Well, as breezy as major surgery can be).
But the thing I wasn’t prepared for? My body. Guys, wow, I have never felt this YUCK in my own skin. Not to sound overly dramatic (except I am being dramatic), but it’s like my reflection was personally attacking me. I don’t know if I just cared less about my body seven years ago, or if I actually did “snap back” quicker back then, but this time? It’s been an entirely different ballgame. We’re talking “showering in the dark so I don’t have to look at my naked reflection” levels of bad.
And don’t get me started with the internet. On one side, you’ve got people lucky enough to snap back so quick they leave the hospital in their size 8 skinny jeans and crop tops and on the other, there’s the “love your body, it made a human, it’s beautiful!” brigade. And then there’s me, stuck in the middle,
like, “Okay, so I haven’t snapped back and I don’t feel like throwing a party for my new wobbly bits, so what now?”
Honestly, I was convinced it wouldn’t be that hard to lose the weight. I mean, during pregnancy, I was borderline obsessed with how I looked, so I thought, yep, once she’s out I’m just going to crack on. Fast forward a couple of months, and I was only just finding the energy to consider opening a caloriecounting app, let alone actually using it. I was definitely more focused on survival than salad, if I’m honest.
For people like me—the in-betweeners—it’s so important to cut yourself some slack. Surround yourself with the kind of people who understand that it’s okay to still be rocking leggings and a mum bun six months in - and still call you beautiful when they see you. Remember that it’s fine to say no to nights out if you’re just not feeling it. It’s fine to miss things if you’d rather be at home in your dressing gown eating toast (even though you really shouldn’t be). And it’s absolutely fine to take your time with this whole “getting your body back” thing and it’s also fine to not be ok with that on some days.
What I’ve realised is this: not loving your postpartum body doesn’t mean you don’t love your baby. You’re not a bad mum because you’re not in love with the stretch marks and extra jiggle. Let’s be honest, no one actually wants the extra jiggle. Just take it day by day, keep your sense of humour intact, and remind yourself that showering in the dark probably won’t last forever… hopefully.
Until next time lovelies

Japan: Myth to Manga, 2025 sees Young V&A host temporary exhibition number two. In a way Making Egypt sounds like a not totally dissimilar idea to its predecessor, but with a totally different – and much older – civilisation at its heart. Making Egypt will look at creativity in Ancient Egypt and its enduring influence on contemporary society, and will gather together over 200 items from the V&A archives, with the oldest around 5,500 years old, and many never having been displayed before. It will range from the fully painted inner sarcophagus of Princess Sopdet-em-haawt to examining the influence of Egyptian design on Minecraft and Moon Knight. New films will explore Ancient Egyptian art techniques, and there will be kids’ activities including drawing with scale, deciphering hieroglyphics and designing your own amulet. www.vam.ac.uk
The Princess of Wales Conservatory at Kew Gardens is getting a Peruvian makeover this February, courtesy of the latest annual mind-bending orchid display that takes over the iconic glasshouse each year. As ever, the exotic display will celebrate the natural beauty and biodiversity of its subject country: Peru is home to over 3,000 variety of orchid, plus vast amounts of other flora and fauna besides.
Look out for sculptures of native animals, carved out of plants, including alpacas and parihuanas, plus a cornucopia designed to resemble the iconic Lake Titicaca. The world’s largest bromeliad, the Puya raimondii (commonly known as the Queen of the Andes) will be on display, and the country’s diverse wildlife will be celebrated with an orchid-aviary that brings to life the diverse bird populations of Peru.

While super-producer Cameron Mackistosh still has breath in his body we’ll never be too far from the next revival of Lionel Bart’s all-singing Dickens adaptation Oliver! Fifteen years after the last, Rupert Goold-directed London revival, it’s back in new guise in a Matthew Bourne directed production that premiered at Chichester Festival Theatre back in the summer to reviews that praised it as comfortingly nostalgic rather than doing anything particularly bold. But that’s what we want from ‘Oliver!’ really, isn’t it? All your favourite songs – Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, I’d Do Anything – are present and correct, with a cast that includes Simon Lipkin as Fagin, Shanay Holmes as Nancy, Aaron Sidwell as Bill Sikes, Billy Jenkins as the Artful Dodger and Philip Franks as Mr Brownlow. Shows start on 7th January at Gielgud Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue. www.oliverthemusical.com
At Palmers Green High School, we’re celebrating educating girls for 120 years. We know that girls do better in an all-girls environment, and research has shown that pupils in single-sex schools are more confident to participate in lessons, and more likely to reach their full potential. And for girls in particular, the benefits can be profound and last well beyond their school days.
A recent investigation into the effects of an all-girls education found that school leavers demonstrated stronger academic skills, greater engagement with their studies, higher confidence in science and technology skills and stronger community involvement. Girls in same-sex schools also have more opportunities to excel athletically and take on school leadership roles.
Palmers Green High School (PGHS) not only benefits from being an all-girls school – the only all-girls through school in the area – but also from small class sizes throughout. In the Lower School (ages 4-11), the maximum class size is 24 and some specialist subjects such as Design & Technology and Art are taught in half-class groups, ensuring far greater access to resources and adult attention.
In the Senior School (ages 11-16), teaching groups are usually between 16-18 pupils, and often lower in the GCSE option subjects. The level of interaction between teachers and students is therefore unparalleled. Many of our girls have been with us since their early years and seeing them develop and flourish demonstrates our commitment to equip them for success. Academically, this is demonstrated in our GCSE results, which in 2024 saw percentages at grades 9-8 a magnificent 44% and 9-7 a fantastic 72%, placing our pupils amongst the top performers in the country. Being a smaller school also gives all children greater access to the many opportunities beyond the classroom, such as participating in a school musical production, sports team or chess tournament.
At PGHS there are no such things as boys’ or girls’ subjects; all subjects are for girls and ours excel across the curriculum, with a large number of pupils going on to study sciences and maths at A-level and pursue degrees and careers in STEM fields.
Pupil voice is lauded and girls are expected to take on leadership roles that would usually be reserved for Sixth Form pupils. Student Council offers all pupils the chance to suggest changes that they would like to see. Pupil voice led to the introduction of trousers, creation of new extracurricular clubs such as chess, Design & Technology and cookery, and also voted in the new PE kit for the Senior School.
At PGHS, our main points of entry to the school are Reception and Year 7, although ad-hoc places may be available in other year groups. If you are as passionate as us about giving your daughter the best start in life, come and visit us, and see why The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2025 named us Independent 11-16 Secondary School of the Year
On Wednesday 5 February from 4.30-5.30pm, we are holding a parent talk: ‘Getting Ready for Reception’. Book your place on our website!
At Keble Preparatory School, we offer a dynamic and well-rounded education. High academic standards are combined with opportunities to thrive in Sport, Music, Drama and other extracurricular activities.
Our school is now fully co-educational across all year groups and includes a Nursery for children aged 3 and above. Our purpose and school values remain the same and we continue to value each pupil, nurture their talents and celebrate their achievements.
In a world where learning shapes the future, we believe education should be more than just a pathway to knowledge - it should be a joyful, transformative journey. At the heart of our approach, is the creation of a space where children thrive as individuals, celebrate their unique potential and create a life-long passion for discovery.
We are a happy space, a growing space and a learning space. These three pillars guide everything we do. Our children are encouraged to have fun, explore, be curious, develop independence and have a life-long thirst for learning.
We help our children to reach their full potential in a secure, enabling environment where education enables investigation, creativity, awe and wonder with hands-on experiences. We get to know each child and ensure they feel valued as an individual, celebrating every successful step they take along their learning journey. Promoting the self-confidence and self-esteem of our children within a happy and caring atmosphere is central to our teaching and learning.

Nestled in the heart of England, the Cotswolds is a region renowned for its idyllic landscapes, honey-coloured stone cottages, and charming villages. While February may seem an unconventional time to visit, this off-peak month offers a unique and enchanting experience. Crisp winter air, fewer crowds, and the potential for frosty mornings make it a magical time to explore the countryside.
If there’s one thing that can make a British winter appealing, it’s the thought of getting cosy in the Cotswolds. Amid a quintessentially English landscape, publicans pull artisan ales, sipped by roaring fires. Frosty walks ramble past country manors and up green hills topped with Iron Age forts. But while its home to some of the most beautiful villages in the UK, this isn’t back-in-time England. Clued-in movers and shakers have helped sow an ultra-modern crop of Michelinstarred restaurants in the Cotswolds between the organic spacs, antiques stores and tea rooms. Naturally, rates and reservations are more manageable in winter. Two of the best hotels in the Cotswolds that particularly embody contemporary village living: Soho Farmhouse (copper bathtubs; bottled Negronis), and Lady Bamford’s trailblazing Daylesford farm and estate, where the organic ethos extends to everything from the farm shop and pub to wellness treatments.
February in the Cotswolds is a quieter time, allowing visitors to enjoy its natural beauty and historic charm without the hustle and bustle of peak tourist season. The Cotswolds is an ideal destination for Valentine’s Day or a serene couple’s retreat.
The Cotswolds is home to some of the most picturesque villages in England, each with its unique charm. In February, these villages are less crowded, allowing you to take leisurely strolls and soak in the tranquil atmosphere.
Bibury: Known as “the most beautiful village in England,” Bibury’s Arlington Row is a must-see. The row of 17th-century weavers’ cottages looks especially enchanting under a light dusting of frost.
Bourton-on-the-Water: Often called the "Venice of the Cotswolds," this village’s low bridges and serene waterways are lovely in winter.
Stow-on-the-Wold: A historic market town with antique shops, cosy pubs, and a beautiful church, Stow-on-the-Wold is perfect for a winter’s wander.
