HIT THE RESET BUTTON
Does anyone else feel like September has this imaginary reset button? The long summer nights start to close in, your online shopping basket goes from bikinis to boots, and you start getting back into your ‘routine’. But it’s not quite the same routine you had before summer, it’s a new one because the imaginary reset button has been pressed! Whether it’s because your children have started a new school or a new school year, or you’ve come back from holiday feeling refreshed and ready to start a new chapter, the air just feels brand new, and we’re here for it.
I don’t always like change. It depends what it is, but once I’m in a little bubble and everything’s going smoothly – why do we need to change things? What was wrong with the little bubble? But sometimes you need to make changes, to make your little bubble better. It’s the same with seasons. Spring turns into summer with the smoothest transition. The only time you realise it’s happened is when you can finally leave your coat at home. But even then, we live in London and it might have to come back out at any time! With autumn there
is no smooth transition. We finally get to bank holiday weekend and even if we have a sunny September, in our eyes, it’s Halloween today and Christmas tomorrow.
Sabrina Carpenter’s career has taken an extraordinary leap from her days as a Disney star to becoming a major force in the pop music scene. SABRINA CARPENTER
The Multifaceted Star Who’s Only Just Begun
Sabrina Carpenter is more than just a name in the entertainment industry; she’s a voice, a spirit, and a young woman who has navigated the complexities of fame with grace, talent, and an unyielding sense of self. From her early days on Disney Channel to her evolution as a pop artist with a voice that resonates with a generation, Sabrina’s journey is a testament to the magic that happens when passion meets perseverance. But behind the bright lights and catchy tunes lies a person who, like many of us, is figuring it all out as she goes—sharing her story with honesty and heart.
Sabrina Carpenter grew up in a world far removed from Hollywood glitz. As the youngest of four sisters, Sabrina’s childhood was filled with creativity, imagination, and a strong family bond. She wasn’t just the girl next door; she was the girl who dreamed big, who felt the pull of music and acting even before she fully understood what those dreams would entail.
Sabrina’s early interest in performing was more than just a hobby; it was a calling. At ten years old, she began posting videos of herself singing on YouTube, not for fame, but out of a pure love for music. “I didn’t know what would come of it,” Sabrina recalls, “I just knew I had something to say and I wanted people to hear it.” These early videos were raw and real, capturing a young girl with a big voice and an even bigger heart. It wasn’t long before people started to take notice, and that included casting agents looking for fresh talent.
Her big break came in 2013 when she landed the role of Maya Hart on Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World. For many young actors, Disney is where dreams begin or end. But for Sabrina, it was just the beginning. Playing Maya—a character full of wit, charm, and a bit of rebelliousness—was the perfect introduction for Sabrina, who quickly won over viewers with her relatable, down-to-earth personality.
“I’ve always wanted my music to reflect who I am, AND AS I’VE GROWN, MY MUSIC HAS GROWN WITH ME. I’M NOT AFRAID TO EXPLORE NEW SOUNDS AND push myself as a writer.”
Girl Meets World wasn’t just a job for Sabrina; it was a family. She formed close bonds with her co-stars, especially Rowan Blanchard, who played her best friend on and off-screen. Their friendship resonated with audiences, who saw in them a reflection of their own experiences growing up, dealing with the highs and lows of adolescence, and trying to find where they fit in the world.
But Sabrina wasn’t content to just act; she wanted to sing. Disney gave her that chance, allowing her to perform in episodes and contribute to the show’s soundtrack. In 2014, she released her debut single, “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying,” under Hollywood Records. The song was light and fun, much like Sabrina herself at the time—a young girl with a guitar, ready to take on the world.
While acting gave Sabrina her start, it was music where she found her voice—literally and figuratively. Her debut EP, also titled Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying, was a sweet introduction to her musical style. But Sabrina knew she had more to say, and with each subsequent album, she peeled back more layers of herself.
Her first full-length album, Eyes Wide Open (2015), was the beginning of that journey. The album reflected her transition from a Disney star to a young woman finding her place in the world. Songs like “We’ll Be the Stars” captured her hopes and dreams, while the title track was a declaration of independence, a statement that she was ready to take on whatever came next.
But as Sabrina grew, so did her music. With EVOLution (2016), she started to move away from her Disney image, embracing a more mature sound. The lead single, “Thumbs,” was a standout hit, with its infectious beat and clever lyrics that spoke to the monotony of life and the desire to break free from it. It was clear that Sabrina wasn’t just another pop star; she was an artist with something to say.
Reflecting on her growth as an artist, Sabrina said, “I’ve always wanted my music to reflect who I am, and as I’ve grown, my music has grown with me. I’m not afraid to explore new sounds and push myself as a writer.” Her next albums, Singular: Act I (2018) and Singular: Act II (2019), took that evolution even further. These albums were bold, confident, and a little bit experimental, with influences ranging from pop to R&B to electronic music. Tracks like “Sue Me” and “Almost Love” showed a new side of Sabrina—one that was unapologetic, fierce, and ready to own her place in the pop world. Yet, even as she embraced this new persona, she never lost sight of who she was at her core: a girl with a story to tell.
Even as her music career soared, Sabrina never left acting behind. After Girl Meets World ended in 2017, she took on roles that allowed her to explore different facets of her talent. In Tall Girl (2019), a Netflix original movie, Sabrina played Harper Kreyman, a character who was as fashion-forward as she was supportive. The film was a hit, introducing Sabrina to an even wider audience.
She also starred in Adventures in Babysitting (2016), a Disney Channel Original Movie that paid homage to the 1987 classic. As Jenny Parker, Sabrina was both the responsible babysitter and the accidental adventurer, showcasing her ability to balance comedy with action.
One of her most poignant roles came in Clouds (2020), a biographical drama based on the true story of Zach Sobiech, a young musician battling cancer. Sabrina played Sammy Brown, Zach’s best friend, and her performance was praised for its emotional depth and sincerity. The film allowed Sabrina to step into a more serious role, one that required her to dig deep into her own emotions and experiences.
What sets Sabrina Carpenter apart is her ability to connect with her audience on a deeply personal level. This connection is most evident in her songwriting. From the beginning, Sabrina has been involved in the creative process of her music, co-writing many of her songs. This isn’t just a career for her—it’s an expression of who she is.
Carpenter’s latest era jump-started at Coachella in April, where she got to play “Espresso” for the first time during a sunset performance on the main stage. During the festival, she kicked it with a few fellow musicians: Videos of her catching Ice Spice’s set with Swift went viral, and you can see Carpenter meeting Victoria Monét in her “Brina’s First Coachella” Instagram photo dump. Carpenter, who’s seen the posts about the joint success of “Espresso” and Chappell Roan’s song “Good Luck, Babe!”, got to hang with the fellow pop starlet in the desert. “I’ve been just as obsessed with her as everyone has,” Carpenter says. “It’s so weird when you’re hanging out as two young women as opposed to thinking about when she goes onstage and is that person and when I go on stage.”
On a warm day in July of last year, Sabrina woke up in a tiny village south of Paris and headed to a crêperie, which happened to be the only restaurant in town. The singer had just finished some tour dates and was spending a bit of downtime exploring France. Like any self-respecting European café, this crêperie, Carpenter noticed, served espresso. An idea for a song arose — one that would grow into this year’s song of the summer. Released in April, “Espresso” is an unbelievably catchy pop jam full of cheeky quotables, including a chorus built around the unlikely phrase “that’s that me espresso.”
Carpenter has had the song stuck in her head since France; these days, it’s probably stuck in yours. “I decided to put that burden on other people,”.
said. “They’re the reason I’m able to do what I love and stay true to who I am.”
“FAMILY IS EVERYTHING
TO
ME - THEY’RE THE REASON I’M ABLE TO do what I love and stay true to who I am.”
“Espresso” is a global smash, and it’s unlocked a new level of stardom for Carpenter. “The way she puts things, I’m immediately right there with her,” Carpenter’s collaborator Jack Antonoff says of her songwriting. “And [for] anyone who’s got to see her live, let alone record her, she’s an unbelievable singer. When you’re in the presence of that kind of voice, all you want to do is capture it.”
Antonoff worked on about half of the album, including the single “Please Please Please,” which has given Carpenter another hit since it was released June 7. In the song, Carpenter adopts a gentle twang to warn a love interest, “Heartbreak is one thing/My ego’s another/I beg you don’t embarrass me, mother******.” “There’s like an Olivia Newton [John] feeling, there’s a Dolly feeling, there’s an incredibly super modern pop feeling,” Antonoff says. “The little vocal runs she does are so bizarre and unique — they’re doing this really odd, classic, almost yodel-y country thing. She’s becoming one of the biggest young pop stars, and that song is such a statement of expressing yourself, not just lyrically, but sonically.”
Sabrina’s journey has made her a role model for many young people, not because she’s perfect, but because she’s real. In an industry where authenticity can often take a backseat to image, Sabrina has remained true to herself, sharing her struggles with anxiety, the pressures of fame, and the ups and downs of growing up in the public eye.
Her openness has resonated with fans who see themselves in her music and her story. She’s not just singing about love and heartbreak; she’s singing about the human experience, about the messiness of life and the beauty that can be found within it. Whether she’s posting on social media, giving interviews, or performing on stage, Sabrina comes across as genuine, approachable, and refreshingly honest.
Despite her busy schedule, Sabrina has managed to keep her personal life relatively private. She’s spoken about the importance of family, crediting her close-knit relationship with her sisters and parents for keeping her grounded. “Family is everything to me,” she
While she’s had high-profile relationships that have made headlines, Sabrina tends to keep the focus on her work rather than her personal life. This balance between public and private is part of what makes her so relatable. She’s a young woman navigating the same challenges that many of her fan’s face— trying to figure out who she is, what she wants, and how to stay true to herself in a world that’s constantly changing.
At just 25, Sabrina has already achieved more than many do in a lifetime. But if her career so far is any indication, she’s only just getting started. With each new project, whether it’s a film role, a new album, or a live performance, Sabrina continues to push herself, exploring new creative avenues and challenging herself to grow as an artist and a person.
As she continues to navigate her career, Sabrina remains focused on staying true to her vision. “I’m still learning, still growing,” she said in a recent interview. “I’m excited about the future because I know there’s so much more to come.”

COLLAGEN COOL
Collagen is the superstar protein
that holds our bodies
together. Found in skin, bones, tendons, and ligaments, it’s like the glue that gives our body structure, strength, and flexibility. But here’s the catch: as we age, our collagen production slows down. That’s when we start seeing wrinkles, sagging skin, achy joints, and weaker cartilage.
To keep everything firm and strong, it’s crucial to boost collagen levels with a good diet, the right supplements, and smart lifestyle choices. Eating foods rich in collagen, like bone broth, fish, and egg whites, can help. There are also plenty of collagen supplements out there, from powders to gummies, that can give your body the extra support it needs.
Besides looking good, collagen has a lot of health benefits. It can help reduce joint pain and keep your bones strong, making it easier to stay active and fit. It’s also great for your gut, helping to strengthen the lining of your digestive tract, which can improve overall digestion.
So, whether you’re aiming for glowing skin, pain-free joints, or just an overall health boost, incorporating more collagen into your daily routine can make a big difference. It’s a simple step that can help you feel and look your best at any age.
Collagen Benefits:
Skin Health
Best known for its skinenhancing properties, Collagen helps maintain skin elasticity and hydration, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Collagen supplements have been shown to stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen, improving skin texture and firmness.
Joint and Bone Support
Collagen is essential for joint health, as it maintains the cartilage that cushions joints. As cartilage deteriorates with age, it can lead to joint pain and conditions like osteoarthritis. Collagen supplements have been found to reduce joint pain and improve mobility. Additionally, collagen provides structural support to bones, enhancing bone density and reducing the risk of fractures.
Muscle Mass and Heart Health
Studies have shown that collagen supplementation can help increase muscle mass and strength, particularly in older adults. It contains the amino acid glycine, which supports muscle growth and repair.
Hair and Nails
Collagen’s benefits extend to hair and nails, promoting growth and strength. Supplementing with collagen can lead to thicker hair and stronger, less brittle nails.
Incorporating collagen into your routine can yield significant health benefits, from radiant skin to stronger joints and bones. Whether through dietary sources like bone broth and fish, or supplements, boosting your collagen intake can help maintain a youthful, healthy body.
Collagen may be found in or derived from animal products. Foods that contain collagen include:
• Gelatin
• Bone broth
• Connective tissues of animals
• Chicken skin
• Pork skin
• Beef
• Fish
Vitamin C is crucial for collagen synthesis. There are many foods that are high in Vitamin C, like citrus fruits, broccoli, strawberries, and many others.
LYMM WELCOMES THE DOCTOR & COMPANY
Following the success of her Manchester and Whalley clinics, Dr Natalie Haworth brings her The Doctor & Company aesthetics brand to Lymm. @drnataliehaworth
Dr Natalie Haworth has made a name for herself in the aesthetics industry, following the impressive success she has had with The Doctor & Company. The aesthetics brand already has its prestigious but approachable Whalley and Manchester clinics.
So when she saw 24 The Cross in Lymm was available, the enviable location and expansion into Cheshire made it the perfect location for her “natural but noticeable” style of aesthetics, backed by the team’s evidence and science-led approach.
“We are so excited to have a presence in the beautiful village of Lymm; as soon as I saw the picturesque building and the stunning surroundings, I knew we had to open a clinic here,” explains Dr Natalie, who is a qualified and registered doctor who spent many years in the NHS.
It is this medical background, centred on science and ethics, that contributes to the fact 98 per cent of patients come from their friends’ recommendations. Dr Natalie and her team put patient safety at the centre of everything they do.
In the Manchester and Whalley clinics, the perimenopausal and menopausal age ranges are the fastest growing demographic and it is expected that this will also apply to Lymm.
Dr Natalie created “Lyft and Lite” to meet their needs; a bespoke plan that empowers women with a series of tailored but targeted treatments.
Dr Natalie continues: “It is important that our ethics mean we can attract a diverse clientele who feel comfortable in our practice. A key part of our integrity is the tremendous effort the team places on patient education for optimal outcomes. Our clinic is a safe and welcoming space, always.”
Highly regarded in the industry, Dr Natalie Haworth regularly speaks out in the media about the importance of the UK aesthetics industry needing to be regulated. As a qualified and registered doctor who spent many years in the NHS, she puts patient safety at the centre of everything her and her highly experienced team do.
She has opened three The Doctor & Company clinics in an impressively short expansion period, with her clinics’ USP being maintaining patient uniqueness whilst enhancing their features, ensuring they look like the best version of themselves, with enhancements you can’t quite put your finger on.
EAT TO BEAT CYSTITIS
Cystitis is a common bladder problem that affects as many as one in five women. Men do also get cystitis but it is far more common in women, in part because the journey to the outside world is that much shorter, making it easier for bacteria to spread.
In men, cystitis is often associated with Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH). Usually the first indication that something’s wrong is the need to visit the bathroom more frequently, which, let’s face it, often hurts and never quite gives relief.
As well as the constant urge to pee and a painful burning sensation when you do pee, cystitis symptoms can also include pain or pressure in your lower belly, you may feel sick or achy (backache is common) and your pee may be darker or smell stronger than usual.
So, what to do?
Our diets are too often full of things that can irritate the bladder, cause inflammation or reduce our immune system and allow infection to take hold. Maintaining a generally healthy and balanced diet will help keep your body strong and more efficient at protecting itself from infection.
Increase your fluid intake. We lose about 1.5 litres of water a day just by breathing, sweating and going to the loo. Just to remain in balance you need to drink at least 1.5 litres a day but this will vary according to your weight and general activity. Drinking more water helps dilute urine, meaning it is less concentrated and acidic, and therefore less likely to irritate the bladder. Nasty bacteria love stagnant urine. By drinking more water you empty your bladder more frequently, leaving bacteria with little time to multiply. Aim for at least 2 litres of still water a day.
What about cranberry juice? Ok, so cranberries were always going to make the edit. Researchers believe they prevent bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder, which makes it difficult for an infection to grow there. But it’s not as simple as all that. Cranberry juice is very slightly acidic and can sometimes irritate the bladder. Go too sweet and you feed the bacteria at the root of the infection. Biotta Mountain Cranberry Juice is naturally strong and sour in flavour, and contains handpicked wild mountain cranberries that are rich in phytonutrients known to help support bladder health. But if you’re not keen on the taste of cranberry juice, A.Vogel’s Cranberry Complex Tablets are a concentrated source of freshly harvested cranberries. Each tablet contains the equivalent of 7.5g of fresh cranberries.
Another bladder-friendly berry is Uva-ursi or Bearberry. A small woody shrub native to America and Europe, Uva-ursi is a favourite bear snack - hence the catchy alias. A.Vogel’s Uva-ursi and Echinacea Complex can be used to relieve symptoms associated with urinary tract infections. Echinacea provides additional immune support.
What’s the link between cystitis and immune health? Your overall health and immune system can influence how quickly you recover from cystitis and recurrent cystitis can be a sign your immune system is struggling.
Make sure your diet is balanced by cooking from scratch and incorporate lots of fresh fruits and vegetables that are rich in antioxidants. If an infection is present a diet rich in fruit and vegetables should also help to reduce the acidity of your urine. Spinach, kale and broccoli are good options. They are great for your whole body, are packed with vital nutrients and they help to support the immune system.
Probiotic and prebiotic foods can also help with bladder health. Plain, natural yoghurt is packed full of good bacteria, which can help keep bad bacteria in check and reduce the chances of an infection taking hold. Other food sources of probiotics include tempeh, miso, kefir and sauerkraut.
Cut caffeine and alcohol from your diet during an infection, as these irritate the bladder and will worsen symptoms of pain and burning. They may also cause recovery from infection to slow down.
It is important to urinate as much as you need; holding on when you need to go to the toilet can cause bacteria to build up in the urinary tract, making you more prone to infection. If you are suffering from an infection, this is particularly important, as this will encourage the bacteria to leave the system.
Finally, chemicals in personal care products, such as intimate washes and soaps, can also cause cystitis so keep these to a minimum or seek out natural alternatives.
If symptoms do not improve within 48 hours or are recurrent, or if there is blood in your urine or a fever is present, consult your GP or healthcare provider.

THIS IS THE STORY OF
THE OVERTHINKER
“thanks to the dynamic duo of overthinking and anxiety all rolled into one, we tend to not focus on the present and worry too much for things gone by and things still to come.”
There was once a girl from North London who was healing from years of neglect, trauma and multiple broken hearts. For years she unknowingly battled with her own demons but she always seemed so happy and joyful that for years, she even fooled herself.
She would always make time for people in her life, she would always offer help to anyone who needed it and she genuinely wanted to make other people happy. She spent years of her life trying to break the mould, unknowingly trying, desperately, to not become the people who hurt her.
She opened her home and her heart to her friends and without realising, she would always put other people’s needs over her own. But she didn’t mind because, of course, she believed that was her source of happiness. But this was her false sense of happiness. She would never ask for help because she was hyper independent (in case people thought she was needy). She would always invite people over because she loved hosting (so they never had to invite her so she’d never feel left out).
She would often not accept invitations because she needed “me time” (in case she was overbearing). She would leave early because life was so full on (to never overstay her welcome).
She would never say too much as she was agreeable (so she could never be misunderstood). All the things she was told she was by those who she trusted and loved.
One day she decided to take her future into her own hands scared that the road to loneliness may lead her down a path too far for her to walk back from. As she steered her healing journey, mostly alone, she began to soften and became kinder to herself. She realised that her journey was a long one but it was by no means a straight road. There were many winding roads, a few dead ends where she’d have to turn back and start again but it was her journey none the less.
“Not every weird thought that pops in your head is a real one AND MAKE THE DECISION TO JUST FLICK IT AWAY LIKE A GNAT. A PERSISTENT INTRUSIVE THOUGHT CAN COME FROM A PLACE OF INSECURITY.
If you accept that, then it’s easier to move on from it.”
She never let many people in and would remove herself from situations where she felt she didn’t serve a purpose anymore. Eventually, loneliness crept up on her. Pushing more and more people out of her life as the years went on. Her circle became smaller and smaller and history repeated itself again and again until she realised that overthinking and self-sabotage were ruining her relationships.
Legend says, she is still learning and growing and has opened her heart once again to real and loving connections in her life. And she lived balanced and emotionally intelligent after… well, she may have a wobble every now and again but largely, she’s cool. The end. (Well, not quite)
This was me, not so long ago, asking myself a series of very challenging questions:
“Why would anyone want me around, I don’t serve a purpose” “I’m miserable and stressed all the time” “I have no funny stories to tell because I’m a corporate work junkie permanently stuck on my laptop on the sofa” Oh, and the best one “Will anyone care if I wasn’t here anymore?”
HOW DRAMATIC AM I?
And yet so many people feel this way and just don’t talk about it. Did you know, according to Forbes, 73% of 23-35 year olds overthink? That’s a lot of people who probably don’t talk about it very much because we spend all our time overthinking rather than talking about how we feel.
Why do we overthink? Because those who do, tend to look at life through a negative lens. Not on purpose, we don’t want to feel that way, but thanks to the dynamic duo of overthinking and anxiety all rolled into one, we tend to not focus on the present and worry too much for things gone by and things still to come.
When my little brain tries to switch off at night, all I can think of is all the ways I’ve messed up in the past or how I’ve been hurt, and then how scared I am that I will have a miserable ever after because history dictates that. Then I think about all the work I need to do tomorrow. Imposter syndrome then kicks in and then I think I’m a failure. If I lose my job, how will I pay my bills, which jumps to I’m a pretty shitty person, my friends must get tired of me too, maybe that’s why they haven’t invited me round, but I won’t invite myself because I don’t want to impose, because I’m shitty. Then I think I see them less and less now and they all see each other all the time, they must be happier without me to, well if they hate me, what chance have I got of anyone loving me; then I cry a little, and then I go to sleep.
Sounds exhausting doesn’t it. I have an anxious attachment style where I struggle to feel secure in any relationship but I’m an anxious avoidant at the same time; where I intentionally avoid connecting with people to avoid getting hurt. Brilliant. I’m my very own oxy-moron. I’m like a magnet, repelling against my own personality.
I’m not like this very often, I’d be drained if I was, but every so often, especially when I’m on a hormonal rampage it’ll get me… but it always lingers a little. I do not have a day when I don’t feel anxious, and I don’t think I ever have, but I’ve only just realised that.
Being self-aware is such a powerful tool when you can feel yourself slipping away and you’re able to pull yourself back again. So, I will leave you with a few tips on how you can overcome overthinking so your brain can have a little breather.
1. Accept that your brain thinks a little differently and that’s ok. Not every weird thought that pops in your head is a real one and make the decision to just flick it away like a gnat. A persistent intrusive thought can come from a place of insecurity. If you accept that, then it’s easier to move on from it.
2. This column forces me to reflect on my previous month so for those of you who struggle to talk about your feelings, throw them down on paper. Once you write them down, you’ll see how farfetched some of them can be and it makes it easier to dismiss those negative thoughts swirling round in your head.
3. Distract yourself. When your brain is most Idle is when your brain works hardest to solve problems. An overthinker can somewhat create unnecessary problems which your brain is challenged to try and overcome. Do something else during the time when you notice you overthink the most.
4. Embrace some of your fears. Ok so most recently, I thought all my friends hated me. And I’d get myself in a tizz because they haven’t asked to see me in a while and they’d go off and do their own thing together. Firstly, I don’t suffer from FOMO so I don’t know where these weird thoughts have come from, secondly, I could always just ask to see them. Taking one step towards beating your fears will help you realise, most of what your feeling is just that, a fear.
5. Make a plan. If you find that your thoughts are because your life is in a proverbial shit creek, make a list and start ticking it off.
6. Be kinder to yourself. Sometimes we just can’t control everything around us. Being vulnerable, accepting you can’t do it all and give yourself patience and grace will help you to bring some much-needed clarity into your thought process. My overthinking comes from past traumatic experiences, being aware and mindful that this is a by-product of life experiences will help put less meaning to your intrusive thoughts.
7. Seek help. If you feel as though overthinking and anxiety are affecting your daily life, speak to someone. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help you to retrain your brain. There’s no shame in it, after all, 73% of us suffer from it. We are in this together.
I hope you all find your happily balanced ever after too.
Big Mouth xoxo

Hello everyone! Hope you’re all well and managed to survive the summer holidays. This summer was a life changing one for me, as I became a mum of 2! My inspiration for my column this month comes from when I found out I was pregnant, and my first thought was Rico. How will he adjust? Will he feel left out? Will he be jealous? Will he love her? Will this affect his behaviour in a negative way? Have I left too much of an age gap? Our new bundle of joy was due just 2 days after his 7th birthday, will this mean I can’t do anything for his birthday? Will it be all about the new baby and Rico will just be there on the sideline? I’m sure I’m not the only parent that’s ever felt like this when they make the transition from one to two children and I’m pretty sure more often than not we all get that mum guilt anxiety of am I doing the right thing? and what if I get it wrong? Apart from Rico being an absolute baby hogger and being a little too obsessive and protective over her, it’s actually been a beautiful thing to watch him take on his new role. So here’s my top 10 tips to help with transitions!
1. Break the news to them first
2 When they first meet the baby, make sure you’re not holding them
3. Have conversations in the lead up to you breaking the news – speak openly about what it would be like for them to become a big brother/sister
4. Let them be involved in decision making – like choosing clothes for the baby
5. Put aside 1:1 time for you and them
6. Teach them how to help look after the baby so they feel responsible
7. When you go into labour, make sure they’re looked after by someone they enjoy being with, doing something fun!
8. Buy a present from the baby for them that you give to them when the baby is born
9. Keep their school/nursery in the loop so they can help with transition where they can
10. Practice patience! It’s a big change for them, so behaviour, moods, routines and emotions are likely to be all over the place, just like yours will be. Be patient with them while they find their feet!
Until next time lovelies xo

I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome in my late 20’s, however, I have been experiencing signs and symptoms since my teenage years. I was initially put on birth control before receiving a diagnosis to help regulate my periods. When I decided to come off birth control because it was affecting my moods, I still noticed my period was irregular and other symptoms started to appear such as facial hair, painful bloating, difficulty losing weight, anxiety and fatigue.
After three attempted visits to my doctors, I finally received an ultrasound to confirm my PCOS. Once I received a diagnosis, my advice given by doctors was “just to lose weight”. I started to make small changes to my nutrition and fitness which reversed some of my symptoms. I started sharing my PCOS journey and new holistic lifestyle approach on my social media platforms to help others. From this I launched ‘Rii Fitness PCOS online coaching’ to help women manage their PCOS. Women within my coaching programme have successfully conceived, reduced their weight and regulated their cycle.
Many women with PCOS feel unheard and I am determined to continue to support them while advocating for them.

Nursery Places Available
Following a bittersweet graduation ceremony and celebrations for their school leavers, devoted practitioners from Woodlands Day Nursery in Barnet bid an emotional farewell to the children they had cared for since joining as babies. MOTHERHOOD & MENTAL STRENGTH with Laura Guckian
We caught up with Laura Guckian on raising three autistic children and how her coaching platform has helped 4,000 mothers achieve mental wellbeing.
Your journey as a mother to three autistic children is both unique and inspiring. Can you share some of the challenges you’ve faced?
As an autistic mum, raising three autistic children, I think the biggest challenge is feeling alone. When I first learned my child Alex was autistic, I felt so worried and scared. At the time, I didn’t understand what being autistic meant. After reflecting though, I realised this was one of the best moments of motherhood. It suddenly hit, the “rules” and the “milestones” no longer applied to us. So, I ditched all the rules, ‘shoulds’ and pressures. I stopped comparing and looking outwards for the “rules of motherhood”. I just started doing what I needed to do and stopped questioning if it was the “right” thing.
What motivated you to start sharing your personal challenges?
Mind Mommy Coaching had been established for almost two years before I considered sharing my maternal mental health experience. I held back because everyone told me it would ruin my credibility as an expert and that I wouldn’t be “taken seriously”. But by supporting other mums, I began to understand that they were wrong. Part of what the mothers I talk to struggle with is the shame and guilt that can be associated with finding motherhood hard and feeling alone in their experiences. My main goal was to lift the veil on what motherhood can really feel like and remove any shame or guilt.
to motherhood, because it suggests that as mums we need to do more or that a quick bubble bath or deep breath is all we need. I always help clients to identify what they need to refill their reserves, most importantly how they can fit it into their busy lives as mums. For me, filling up and maintaining my reserves means being kind and fair to myself (I no longer experience mum guilt), doing the things that make me feel good, cutting corners when I need to (yes, I use screen time and frozen pizza!), and giving myself permission to give my time and energy to my career.
“MY MAIN GOAL WAS TO LIFT THE VEIL ON what motherhood can really feel like AND REMOVE ANY SHAME OR GUILT.”
Since sharing my story, I get weekly emails and messages from mothers thanking me. From a business perspective, I now have a waiting list of mothers who want to work with me which is amazing. So it absolutely did not “ruin” my business or credibility as I was told it would. In fact, it helped women connect with me, because they now know that I felt it too and I can help them with my professional expertise and lived experience.
How do you balance the individual needs of your three children while also taking care of your own mental health?
For me, it all comes down to ensuring that my reserves are full. I absolutely hate the word self-care, especially when it comes
What advice would you give to other mothers who may be struggling?
Start small. Keep shouting for support until you get it. Recognise you are doing your very best, and your best will look and feel different every day.
We were never supposed to do this alone – we were supposed to have a village to support us. In the absence of this village, it’s important to recognise how much you are doing. And recognise it’s okay to find it hard. You didn’t ask for this and it’s not your fault, and it’s especially not a reflection of your ability as a mum. This is just a hard chapter but there is a happier chapter right ahead. Therefore, in the absence of this village, cut corners.
Looking ahead, what are your hopes and goals for your platform? How do you plan to continue supporting and empowering other mothers in the coming years?
I want to continue to challenge the false narrative of what a “good” mum looks and feels like, and redefine the rules of motherhood. I want to help mums understand what “Mind Mommy” means to them and help to integrate that into their busy lives.
Most importantly, I want to continue to provide a safe space for mums to share how they really feel and continue pushing for that support, aiming for mums to be both happier and healthier.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
OFSTED: HOW MUCH DOES IT MATTER?
Being a teacher in the UK is not easy. We are consistently working hard to ensure we follow school policy, get good results, all whilst maintaining the wellbeing of the kids. And then, you get ‘the call’ to say Ofsted are coming in TOMORROW.
Ofsted is controversial in our world. What does the report mean? Are my children being educated properly? Why are they not outstanding? The person with the biggest weight on their shoulders is always the headteacher, but if you are confident in your school, I always think, why worry?
Unfortunately, it is not as easy as that. I’m sure you have all heard about the awful story around the headteacher and what followed after her Ofsted result. Using data from a survey of over 3,000 education staff, the report found that: 73% of staff thought inspections were not fit for purpose, 60% of staff thought inspections do not provide a comprehensive picture of strengths and weaknesses of schools or colleges, and 71% of staff thought inspections negatively impact their mental health and wellbeing.
As a teacher who has just experienced an Ofsted ‘deep dive’, I can confirm the above is true. My department (DT), was seen as good, but a school is not measured just by one subject. Students and staff are interviewed, work is looked at in detail for at least 5 different subjects, lessons and corridors are observed and there is scrutiny at every turn!
The most important thing to Ofsted is consistency across a school, but how do human beings, expect other human beings to do all the same things, all the time, every day and well? Teaching has always been about adaptability, nurturing children who may not get what they need at home, ensuring their safety and of course, equipping the new generation to go out into the big wide world. Consistency is almost impossible in these settings. All of this with no notice and done over a period of 2 or 3 days. How can someone POSSIBLY judge a school of 1000 pupils, in that amount of time? Then you need to add teenagers into the mix! We all know how challenging they can be on a good day!
What I think is most important to remember, is that the most valuable part of an Ofsted report is the safeguarding judgement. Ensuring your children are looked after in school and situations that arise are
dealt with appropriately which is all you ask for as a parent. Ofsted mean no harm, but that’s not to say it doesn’t cause harm.
Remember to go easy on the school after Ofsted, remind your children that whatever happens, they spend their days in the school you picked for them, and regardless of the rules they hate to follow, it is a constant blanket of security and there are staff members who will go above and beyond to make them have the best school experience of their lives. Teachers don’t work for the money or the holidays. They LOVE their job, trust me!
Ofsted reports are not always a true depiction of the whole school picture, and while there is always room for improvement, remember to celebrate the successes. There are always way more of those than failures.

Dream Extension: A Seamless Blend of Garden Beauty and Elegant Design with Insteel Doors
Luise had always dreamed of a home that seamlessly blended indoor comfort with the serene beauty of her garden. As an avid gardener, her backyard was her sanctuary. The only thing missing was a way to fully enjoy this view from inside her home, especially during the colder months.
One crisp spring morning, as Luise sipped her coffee and gazed out at the vibrant foliage through her small kitchen window, inspiration struck. She envisioned an extension to her home that would bring the outside in, flooding her kitchen with natural light and offering panoramic views of her beloved garden. She wanted a space that felt open and airy, yet cozy enough to enjoy year-round.
Determined to turn her vision into reality, Luise began researching options. That’s when she discovered Insteel personalized doors. The sleek, modern design of their steel glazed doors immediately caught her eye. The idea of large glass panels framed by slim, sturdy steel appealed to her sense of style and practicality. The more she learned, the more convinced she became that these doors were the perfect solution.
seamless. The consultant had a brilliant idea: Why not match the color of the steel door frames to her kitchen cabinets? Luise loved the concept. Her cabinets were a cool pastel, elegant shade of sage green —a color that would look stunning against the garden backdrop and add a touch of sophistication to the steel doors.
“Sunlight poured in, illuminating her kitchen creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.”
As the extension took shape, Luise watched with growing anticipation. The Insteel doors were even more beautiful than she had imagined. The slim steel frames, painted to match her cabinets, created a harmonious flow from the kitchen to the new space. When the doors were finally installed, the effect was breathtaking. Sunlight poured in, illuminating her kitchen creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. The large glass panels provided a perfect, uninterrupted view of her garden, making it feel like a part of the room.
With excitement, Luise contacted Insteel and set up a consultation. She shared her dream of an extension that would serve as both a dining area and a cozy nook for relaxing with a book, all while offering unobstructed views of her garden. The consultant listened attentively, offering suggestions on how to maximize the space and light. They discussed different styles and configurations of the doors, eventually settling on a design that featured expansive glass panels and a pair of French doors that opened onto her patio.
One of Luise’s key concerns was ensuring that the new extension felt like a natural part of her home. She wanted the transition from her existing kitchen to the new space to be
On the first evening after the extension was completed, Luise invited her friends over to celebrate. They gathered around the new dining table, marveling at the transformation. As they enjoyed a meal with the garden bathed in the soft glow of twilight, Luise felt a deep sense of satisfaction. Her dream had come true—she now had a beautiful, functional space that connected her home to her garden in a way that was both elegant and practical.
Luise’s extension, with its stunning Insteel doors, quickly became her favorite spot in the house. Whether she was enjoying a cup of tea on a golden hours of late afternoon, simply gazing at her blooming flowers, the space brought her endless joy. And every time she looked at the sage green frames, perfectly matched to her kitchen cabinets, she smiled, knowing that she had created something truly special.

CHILLED TOMATO SOUP
with rose harissa
Perfect as a light lunch or supper, the gentle warmth of rose harissa offers complex spicy backnotes to the sweet flavour of Jack Hawkins tomatoes.
Serves 4
Prep 15 mins
Ingredients
350g pack No.1 Ciabatta With Extra Virgin Oil, 90g roughly chopped, the rest sliced, to serve • 5 Jack Hawkins Tomatoes, fridge cold • 2 clove/s garlic, peeled and roughly chopped • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar • 3 tbsp Cooks’ Ingredients Ruby Rose Harissa Paste • 100ml extra virgin olive oil • ½ x 25g pack flat leaf parsley, leaves finely chopped • 1 red chilli, finely chopped (optional)
Cook’s tip
Use red pesto in place of the harissa for an Italianinspired version. This soup can also be served warm, if liked.
Method
Put the bread into a bowl, then pour over 100ml very cold water and leave to soak for 5 minutes. Roughly chop 4 tomatoes and place in a blender with the soaked bread, garlic and a generous pinch of sea salt flakes. Blend until smooth and soupy.
Spoon the vinegar, 2 tbsp harissa and all but 1 tbsp of the olive oil into the tomato and bread mix, then blend again until silky smooth, thinning with a little more very cold water if necessary. Chill the soup for at least 1 hour.
Finely dice the remaining tomato, season with a pinch of sea salt flakes, then dress with the remaining 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp harissa, the parsley and the chilli (if using). Stir together until fully combined.
Divide the soup between 4 chilled bowls and spoon over the dressed tomatoes. Serve immediately, with more bread.
Cook’s tip
Starting the curry off with coconut oil adds an extra coconutty flavour to the dish. Spoon it from the jar at room temperature, as it sets very hard otherwise! You could use vegetable oil if preferred.
Red pepper & sweet potato CURRY
A go-to curry for any weeknight, all made in one pan and delicious served with rice or naan. Try swapping the sweet potato for butternut squash, or vary the curry paste.
Serves 4
Prep 10 mins
Cook 40 mins
Ingredients
1 tbsp coconut oil • 1 pack 3 sweet peppers, cut into chunks • 1 large onion, roughly chopped • 2 sweet potatoes, scrubbed and cut into 2cm chunks • 180g jar Cooks’ Ingredients Madras Spice Paste • 400ml coconut milk • 25g pack coriander, leaves chopped • 40g toasted flaked almonds
Full fat coconut milk balances and rounds out curry pastes beautifully. If you need to use reduced fat coconut milk, it can be wise to use a little less curry paste.
Method
Heat the coconut oil in a large frying pan or wide shallow saucepan, then fry the sweet peppers and onion over a medium heat for 8-10 minutes, stirring frequently, until softened and lightly browned.
Add the sweet potatoes, stir in the Madras paste, coconut milk and ½ can water, then bring to a simmer.
Cover with a lid and cook for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft and beginning to break up.

Autumn apple & blackberry CRUMBLE
It isn’t really autumn without an apple and blackberry crumble. Here’s a simple way to do it, using frozen apples and berries and a nutty oat topping.
Serves 6
Prep 10 mins Cook 45 mins
Ingredients
350g frozen Cooks’ Ingredients Sliced British Bramley Apples • 300g frozen Essential Blackberries • ½ tsp ground cinnamon •
110g caster sugar • 225g plain flour •
2 tbsp porridge oats • 125g unsalted butter, cut into cubes and chilled • 50g pecan nuts, chopped • Cream or custard, to serve (optional)
Method
Cook’s tip
Make the crumble with wholemeal flour and use chopped hazelnuts instead of pecans. Try using peeled and cored pears, cut into large chunks, instead of the apples.
Preheat the oven to 200°C, gas mark 6. Mix together the frozen apples, blackberries, cinnamon and ½ the sugar, then tip into a large ovenproof baking dish, about 25x17cm. Bake for 15 minutes until the fruit begins to soften.
Meanwhile, make the crumble topping. Place the flour, oats and a pinch of salt in a large bowl, then stir together. Using your fingertips, rub the butter into the flour and oats until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Stir in the nuts and remaining sugar. Gently stir the softened fruit, then smooth it down with the back of a spoon. Top with the crumble, return to the oven and bake for 30 minutes until golden. Cool for 5 minutes, then serve with double cream, ice cream or custard, if liked.

SEVILLE SPLENDOR
Imagine a city where the sun always seems to shine, where narrow cobblestone streets wind through charming neighbourhoods, and the scent of orange blossoms fills the air. That's Seville for you! Nestled in the heart of Andalusia in southern Spain, Seville is like a living, breathing postcard of everything you picture when you think of Spain.
Seville's history is like a patchwork quilt, stitched together by Romans, Moors, and Christians. It all started as the Roman city of Hispalis, which laid the groundwork for what would become one of Spain's most enchanting cities. Fast forward to the 8th century, and the Moors had taken over, leaving behind a legacy of intricate architecture and vibrant culture. Then, in 1248, the Christians took back the city during the Reconquista, and Seville started to shape into the cultural hub it is today.
Seville's skyline is dominated by the massive Seville Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. This isn't just any cathedral; it's where Christopher Columbus is buried! Right next to it is the Giralda, a former minaret turned bell tower, where you can get some beautiful panoramic views of the city. And then there's the Alcázar, a royal palace that looks like it was plucked straight out of a fairy tale, with its mix of Moorish and Christian design. It's still used by the Spanish royal family!
THINGS TO DO:
When it comes to things to do, Seville has you covered. Wander through the Barrio Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter, enjoy tapas at local bars entertained by traditional flamenco dancing, Seville offers a plethora of activities and attractions for visitors to enjoy. The area is bordered by Calles Mateas Gago, Santa Maria La Blanca/San José, the Jardines de Murillo and the Alcázar. It was formerly the Jewish quarter; some of the churches were originally synagogues. The covered passageway heading off the Patio de Banderas (part of the Alcázar) called the Judería is worth visiting; enter the Patio from here and you'll get an unforgettable view of the cathedral.
Plaza de España
