According to the American magazine Forbes, Patmos, the island of the Apocalypse, is one of the most popular destinations in Europe. It is located in the southern part of the Aegean Sea and is characterized by its significant historical and religious importance.

It was built around the fortification wall of the monastery over a period of 1,000 years. Its all-white houses and impressive mansions have common architectural elements that are in complete harmony with the sanctity of the surrounding area. You will understand this from the very first moment you start exploring its winding, whitewashed, and impeccably clean alleys. The monastery is designed as a medieval castle with battlements and is closely tied to the island's history and development. Archaeological evidence suggests that it was built on the ruins of an ancient temple of Artemis and an early Christian basilica. The catholicon, refectory, hearth, and monks' cells from the Byzantine period are still well-preserved. The catholicon has an elaborate wood-carved iconostasis and magnificent 17th-century frescoes. The refectory is adorned with murals and marble dining tables that are sure to amaze you. As you ascend to the level of the cells, you can admire the unique arches of the monastery and enjoy a view of the paved courtyard.
