GTP Project

Hi everybody! We are team CL2 from Colegiul Economic Buzau, Romania. We are in class X A. Our question was : Learning is something that we should do all our life. This is why our teachers are really important for us. What are in your opinion, the qualities of the ideal teacher? Please make a comparison between your ideal teacher and having a computer as a teacher.

3

This is what we learnt from CL1 : The most important skill that a person,a teacher and a learner ,should develop is the understanding that we need to learn , communicate and show knowledge .If we use our resources well we can find many things ,but, most people do not try to expand their knowledge. The ideal teacher should help us understand how to learn continuously throughout our whole life ,and also how to use computers and technology efficiently. This is what we learnt from CL3 : The ideal teacher has good knowledge of his field of work. The ideal teacher does his work not only with the mind but with the heart too. That teacher can attract every single student to learn everything.He/She can work with technologies. Finally it is not a good idea to replace the human teacher with a computer. This is what we learnt from CL4 : Our friends from CL 4 think that having a computer as a teacher would be quite odd. They wouldn’t be able to ask specific questions, the atmosphere wouldn’t be relaxed 4

at all,and will be strange to hear a robotic voice. It would be very strange because a robot can’t think about our feelings,it would not excuse us if we can’t learn,a real teacher knows how to explain so that the students understand the lessons, and a the teacher is a good person. And an ideal teacher from their point of view, wouldn’t give homework or test either. This is what we learnt from CL5 : Teachers in the 21stcentury should possess skills that would help students in teaching and learning easier. Also making projects and presentations helps in learning the subject matter better. It is also important to know the use of a computer. If you don‟t use computers or if you don‟t possess certain skills you could have more problems in learning. This is what we learnt from CL6 : Our friends from Canada described some of the necessary tasks that a computer system must perform in order to be useful for both children and teachers. This is what we learnt from CL7 : It seems like nowadays with all the technology and devices we've got, in the process of education, teachers could never 5

be replaced because they help the students understanding the lesson by examples and giving the children real role models to follow. This is what we learnt from CL8 : The students are not as interested in learning as they used to be, but the teachers nowadays teach in such manner that the information given to the children is used later in the future. An average of the perfect teacher would show a teacher that knows every individual with his\her potential and limits, but also encourage them with educational activities, quizzes and experiments. In other words the ‘’digital’’ way of learning seems inferior to the classical way because all the information that we come across in the Internet is useless if we don’t have someone to explain it. This is what we learnt from CL9 : In many students’ opinion –and ours, too teachers have an important role. Even if the technology has a bigger role in our lives, teachers are still essential: they still help us to learn, to develop our knowledge, to appreciate 6

our different answers and backgrounds. Of course teachers who use technology have more advantages in their process of teaching. This is what we learnt from CL10: Our friends from CL 10 think that and ideal teacher should take time to independently work with students ,the teacher should be patient ,kind ,intelligent ,organized .They think that teachers should know what they’re doing and should understand the topic they are teaching. They think that a computer has lots of information but the technology can be difficult to learn and understand .They think that the computer engages all students but it’s expensive it is easy to access work but it doesn’t have social interaction. We are: Gabi, Elena, Vali , Robert, Roxana, Valentin, Alexandru , Bety , Madalina , Alin , Vlad and Dana. Our teachers are: Mrs. Magdalena Ardeleanu and Mrs. Catalina Ilie

GTP-IX B The team: Mocanu Andrei-coordinator, Petre Andrei, Bostan Cristina, Vlad Nicoleta, Argaseala Sebi, Enica Teodor, Raileanu Eduard. Coordinating teacher: Catalina Ilie. Answer from TL1-summary They say that their life is much easier than their parentsâ€&#x;. They also said they have to learn and stay out of trouble and in their spare time they relax and talk with their classmates. Answer from TL9-summary

8

They say that their life is different than their parentsâ€&#x; life was. Their parents spent their free time doing outdoor activities but now in Romania teenagers play computer games and surf the internet . Answer from TL 2-summary The people from there responded with a comparison between the 20th century and the 21th.They said that entertainment in the 20th century meant reading books , knitting , rarely going to discos , and now we play computer games , we go to the disco , some children read books but itâ€&#x;s rare. Then in schools the teachers were respected and it was a very strict discipline, and now some teenagers are not so respectful anymore. Answer from TL10-summary The children from there said that they spend their free time walking with their friends, playing on the computer and listening to music. They also said that if some quarrels arise in their families, they generally get on well with their parents, so if they have problems, they talk them through and find a solution. They said that they use computers, 9

smartphones, and they consider them part of their life. But they also need education, which is very important . Answer from TL8-summary Parents donâ€&#x;t have a cell phones, internet, and Google books. Parents didnâ€&#x;t have microwaves, robotic vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, they was focused on learning, and less on gaming and others. Answer from TL11-summary The difference between generations is observed. They tell us that in their country, school uniform consists of a blue skirt or white shirt and gray pants. School punishes only if they break the law. A long time ago, they didn't receive textbooks, but now they are given free by school. There was no sport as today's basketball, handball or swimming. But now there are many sports. They also talk about how before a teenager did not have his own phone like today. In the house there was just one cellphone. They didn't have a computer or TV. They loved to dance and sing traditional dances and songs but now, teenagers prefer more modern ones. Answer from TL7-summary 10

They refer to the totally different types of childhood of us and our parents. My mention the fact that school is compulsory and describe activities which are after school . Answer from TL6 –summary Our lives are different from our parents' because, when they were our age, the adult world was limited. Now, we just take our phones, load up a social media site and then the entire adult world is open to us. And it's true, because technology has taken over our generation. Answer from TL12 –summary Our life as a teenager is different from the life that our parents lived because then people were different and they weren't thinking like us, they didn‟t have internet or gadgets and they were communicating only face to face. Answer from TL-5-summary They mention sports such as basketball, saying that parents didn‟t have as many things as teenagers have today. One of the students makes a comparison with China, where he studied in elementary school. In the past people were poor in China and didn‟t have phones or computers, but they had chess, tennis and badminton. 11

Colegiul Economic Buzau,

Answers

teacher Enus Adina, Question: How do differences of nationality, political or religious beliefs infruence the idea of friendship between people?

12

Answer from ub2

Friendship can be affected by Nationalities. Often, you want to stay in your comfort zone with people you know because you share the same traditions, and customs. You may not be as open to meeting new people, as they may be different from you and it would be a big change for you.

Answer from ub4

In Romania like other countries there are minorities like:Hungarians,Roma people,Polish,Tatars and many others. We think that the differences in nationality and religion arenâ€&#x;t important in a friendship. For example,Nicole told me that 13

she has a friend,a really good friend who is catholic and heâ€&#x;s from America. Answer from ub5

In our opinion, the differences in nationality, political or religious beliefs shouldnâ€&#x;t affect relationships between people. Even if they have different nationalities or different religious beliefs, people should be understood, should be friends with each other and should be equal.

Answer from ub7

These differences are not important in our opinion. It is important to like the same things, to have the same dreams, ambitions.

Answer from ub8

As a species we are social beings who live our lives in 14

the company of other humans. We organize ourselves into various kind of social groupings, such as nomadic bands, villages, cities, countries, in which we work trade, play reproduce and interact in many other ways. WHAT DO YOU THINK WE HAVE IN COMMON? What do you think we have in common....young people from as many countries? Name at least 3 things that are the same for us and present them as nice as possible. This was our question. We got some interesting answers. Some of you put them in a Prezi presentation that you can follow on the link above: https://prezi.com/vupampybvfwz/what-does-youth-acrossthe-world-have-in-common/ Some of you make a real research on the topic that was posted on googledoc. Methodology: We got the answer to the question by using surveys. We sent surveys to different GTP schools but we didnâ€&#x;t get any results. We also sent surveys to people we knew and distributed them among our relatives. Then we organized the answers to the sub-questions and recorded the most common answers.

16

Summary: One thing we have in common is that we all wear clothes. Sometimes, we wear similar clothes, for example, in Canada someone may wear a t-shirt and jeans and someone in an African or Asian country also may wear t-shirts and jeans. Another thing we have in common is that we eat similar types of food, for example; rice is eaten in Canada, Africa, and Asia. One more thing we have in common is that we have similar hobbies, for example, someone in Canada may have a hobby of going outside and hanging out with their friends. Also someone in Africa or Asia may have the same hobby This is a chart of what people learn at school:

17

Therefore, young people from many countries have their hobbies, what they wear and what they eat in common. Some of the differences we found during this research were that most of the houses people live in were different from each other. We think the reasons for this difference are that some young people live in a poor country. Since the country is poor some of the people who live in the country are also poor, and since they are poor they can't afford to buy a house. Also, some people live in rich countries and they are able to afford a house such as a condo, apartment, townhouse, mansion etc‌ Conclusion: Therefore, not only do young people have things in common, they have differences as well. If everyone in the world was the same, then things would get boring very quickly. If everyone in the world was completely different, and had nothing in common, then people would not get along very well. Therefore, it is good that everyone in the world is similar and different. Further Questions: 1. What other things do young people have in common? 18

2. If young people can‟t afford food what do they eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner? 3. Does the climate affect what the young people eat? Some of you just give the answers and we founded like this a lot of common things:  Outdoor activities- mainly soccer.  A lot of us are Christians and celebrate Christmas and Easter.  We all have documents that state our rights and freedoms. Some of the rights are: freedom of speech, peaceful assembly, religion, beliefs and thought.  Family is very important to us. It provides stability in our social structures and helps us when we need it. Family is the number one priority.  Our feelings , because we all fell the same , we cry the same we laugh the same. The friendship because people have friends everywhere and it doesn‟t matter if your friend is different because you will love him\her no matter what.  Partying , because we‟re young and we wanna have fun and stuff, we‟re having fun in the same ways . 19

 We are “residents in a digital world” unlike our parents‟generation. This means that we are extremely good at working on computers, tablets, notebooks…whatever.  Music that makes us free.  Movies that relax us. GLOBAL TEENAGER PROJECT We are in the 12th grade of the Colegiul Economic Buzau and unfortunately this is our last year in the Global Teenager Project. This project is one of our favorite extracurricular activities because we always learn new things, about other cultures and countries, other habits and we also made new friends.

Students: Avramescu Andreea, Ciurea Elena, Iliescu AdelaMihaela, Oprea Ramona Elena,Teotoc Alexandru, Tudose Bogdan, Ţintă Vlad, Voinea Adrian Coordinating teachers: Cătălina Ilie, Doina Sandu In this Learning Circle our theme was about Millennium Development Goals. Our question was: Term achievement of the Millennium Development Goals is 2015. To what extent were they made and what measures were taken to achieve them in your country? 21

After all the answers received we have learnt new things. -National College “B.P.Hasdeuâ€?, Romania, mdg1 told us that the consensus on ending human poverty as the central objective of international development was a major achievement of the global community. Derived from the Millennium Declaration, the Goals emphasize a human centered approach, defining poverty as multidimensional deprivation in several social and economic areas of peopleâ€&#x;s lives including education, health, environment, food, employment, housing, and gender inequality. - From Colegiul Economic Buzau, Romania, mdg3 we know the situation of MDGs in Romania: -poverty reduction is achieved through the implementation of the National Strategic Plan for Rural Development for all; - Gender equality is promoted; -reducing child mortality and improving maternal health is deployed by requesting longer budgets for renovating maternities and purchasing equipment of the latest generation; 22

-fighting against severe diseases in Romania is achieved by administering preventive condoms and initiating programs for emancipating children, teenagers, and young people. -National College of Computer Science “Grigore Moisilâ€?, Romania, mdg4 gave us the MDGs of Romania in percentage: - The share of poor has dropped consistently between 2001 and 2009, from 30.6% in 2001 to 4.4% in 2009, achieving an overall 85.7% reduction of the poverty rate - Enrolment rate for the countryâ€&#x;s school age population stood at 79.6% for the school-year 2008/2009. For compulsory primary education (population aged between 7 and 10) enrolment rates reached 95%. - Employment rates for women (aged 15-64) increased from 51.5% in 2005 to 52.5% in 2008 - Mortality of children aged between 1 and 4 years dropped between 2000 and 2009 by 37.5% - 10,041 persons were living with HIV/AIDS in 2009 23

- During the last decade, extreme natural phenomena across the country – the floods in 2005, 2006 and 2010 and extreme droughts, with the most severe being in 2007 – all affected the country. For only 40%, of the time between 2001 and 2010 Romania can be considered as having experienced "normal" weather conditions. -Joshua Creek Public School, teacher Emily Belanger, Canada, mdg5 The population of Canada is extremely fortunate to have the luxury of these goals being accomplished. Canada has yet to achieve many targets from different millennium development goals, but they are still progressing at an impressive rate to accomplish the goals by the set time frame. However, to achieve each target more effort, money and time are needed. - Joshua Creek Public School, teacher Amy Scarpone, Canada, mdg 7 It is proven that the millennium development goals have done many things to help establishing a durable and international peace. It is hard in the world to get equal 24

education but in Canada most schools have equal gender education rights, clean and developed environment, and the right to good healthcare, correct eating and living level. - Kirovograd Construction College, Ukraine, mdg8 Ukraine has managed to achieve certain progress in reducing absolute poverty, ensuring access to primary and secondary education, improving maternal health and reducing child mortality.

XC We asked: Every community has groups of people who are different from the majority. How are these “different people treated in your community? Please explain the differences, too 25

What we have found out from our friends in Canada from UB1

is that Muslims are treated differently there

because of how they present themselves and how there religion is different than the other countries. They are also called by stereotypes like “ terrorist” because some Muslims were terrorists even if that doesn‟t mean that they‟re all like this. Also people think that women shouldn‟t wear hijabs, which is a cultural veil for them. And because some Muslims are trying to start a war with America right now, they are treated even worse. In conclusion, we should try to not be a racist and understand that “some people” doesn‟t mean “all the people”. Hmm.. From our colleagues from UB2, we learned a lot of new and interesting things, like the fact that they‟re trying to make everyone happy and to treat everyone as nicely as possible. They also have in their country the kids‟ help phone which is a phone with an anonymous voice. The phone is on all the time and someone is there for the kids who just want to talk about their problems and stuff, about the fact they are being bullied and harassed. 26

From UB3 we found out that the issue of LGBTQ people is still debatable in many countries. The idea is to accept people as they are We learned from our colleagues from UB5 that in their community there are some groups of people who are different from the majority, but they are treated like the others. Hmm.. for example one of them has some friends who have a different religion or culture and they are well integrated into the society. From UB6 we learned that the Roma people are usually marginalized and criticized because they are different. People are putting the label without knowing. The ethnicities should not be seen as a barrier between us and others. They are seen in a different way because some people do not like working and prefer theft or begging. The government is trying to help , but these people are sometimes not thrilled to work for money in a honest way. From our colleagues from UB7 we learnt that, when it‟s about religion, people aren‟t so affected. But when it‟s about the sexual preferences or the Roma people there are some 27

people who just canâ€&#x;t stand them

... They just canâ€&#x;t admit

that they are different people. We understood from UB8 that in the world there are many different people. Some of they are the dirty rich, the rich , the middle class, the poor and the poverty stricken. Some people are treated in different ways from the others, in our opinion is discrimination. Members : Grosu Nicoleta, Ilie Andreea, Dan Cosmin , Cojanu Sebastian, Bratosin Corina, Milea Alexandru, Popa Octavian/ Coordinators : Buie Roxana and Ilie Catalina GTP XI-C We're almost at the end of the project of this year.I managed this time also to respond successfully at all questions posted. This collaboration with colleagues was wonderful during this semester, although some discussions have generated some contradictions we managed to solve together. 28

For the following few phrases I‟ll try to point out the most important issues raised on the topic we had all this time. A share of 11.7 percent of the total population of the world is in a state of conflict. For example, in Syria carries the largest and deadliest form of war that is currently in the world, with a number of dead that in the last three years climbed to at least 191,000. Mediafax.ro presents the main armed conflicts, currently taking place in the world. Conflicts in Canada: Racism in Canada is a true thing that exists. Unfortunately, white supremacists groups exist in Canada such as “Blood and Honour” and the “Aryan Guard".These groups take their beliefs to the internet to spread hate and to recruit others who share their white supremacists‟ vision for the future of the world. Canada as a nation has gone through tons of hostility between provinces and between cultural groups. Aboriginals went through discrimination within Canada these pieces evidence confirms how. The government gave no information explaining

why

the

Aboriginals 29

went

through

such

inequality; the government should explain why they did such things. Although Canada has gone through a great quantity of quarrels, Canada has created solutions for several of those tribulations. A solution the Canadian government has created for the inequality of Aboriginals and their quality of life is providing help through human rights organizations to examine the Aboriginals lifestyle, human rights will put an end to the maltreatment. Conflicts in Romania: In our society, the biggest number of conflicts between ethnies is provocated by Gypsies, these people often escaping without any sanction, because of the weak law system, which is being too indulgent. It is true that minorities represent 11% of the 19 million Romanian citizens, including more than 400,000 Gypsies, part of them having caused social problems, stealing etc. After the Revolution against communists in 1989, the Government has put accent on the education of Gypsy children and has offered them special places in high schools and universities. 30

A way to solve the conflict with the Gypsies is to provide better education to them. That way, they will become a working, educated part of our community, and reverse their generally bad image in Europe. As they will become more and more educated, most of them will find jobs, and contribute to our country economy. The conflict we have with Hungarians is not as big as Romanians think it is. Most Hungarians are happy the way things

are.

However, there

are

extremists

who

want

independence, so that they can unite Hungary with a part of Transylvania once again. Those extremists are bad for both Romanians and Hungarians, but with new generations born, extremists will slowly fade away. This conflict will exist forever, but we are trying to minimize it,making them understand that they must adapt. MDG 3’s summary Our question was: What do you think that we would be able to do for developing a much better global partnership? How would we do that? Which would be the priorities in your opinion? „‟To develop a global partnership for development‟‟ (MDG 8) is an important element in the overall structure of the MDGs. While all MDGs are important in helping countries to reach a level of development conducive to the elimination of extreme poverty, MDG 8 is the precondition for all of these goals to be sustainable in the long run. MDG 8 recognizes that the ability of developing countries to reach sustainable levels of growth often depends on the international environment in which they operate. 32

The Millennium Goals as a whole represents a global partnership for development. The deal makes it clear that it is the main burdens that lies on poor countries to work towards achieving the first four Goals. They must do their part to ensure greater responsibility and efficient use of resources. However, for poorer countries to achieve the first four Goals, it is vital that richer countries deliver on their end of the bargain with more effective aid, more sustainable debt relief and fairer trade rules, well in advance of 2015. The priorities would be:  To develop further an open trading and financial system that doesn‟t discriminate, which includes a commitment to good governance, development and poverty reduction both nationally and internationally;  To address the least developed countries‟ special needs ,which includes free access for their exports, debt relief for poor countries in the worst debt, cancellation of official joint debt and more generous official development assistance for countries committed to reduce poverty;  To deal with developing countries‟ debt problems through national and international measures to make 33

debt sustainable in the long term (in cooperation with the developing countries, develop decent and productive work for youth);  To provide access to affordable essential drugs in developing countries (in cooperation with the private sector, make available the benefits of new technologies especially information and communications technologies). How could we do that? Well…  The world should work out universal goals for all countries and continents.  Countries will have to be honest to each other.  The world should be severe with the countries causing violence.  People should be tolerant to other people`s points of view.  States and people should be able to find compromises.  Countries should share specialists for experience exchange in various fields of activity, in order to learn develop ourselves and our society easier and faster. 34

 People should be educated to respect other nations` interests from childhood.  We should remember people can make mistakes; we should be ready to help them correct those mistakes.  All people should have equal rights, duties and possibilities.  Countries should develop its economy to attract investment, with the help of other countries.  All countries should reduce custom taxes.  Producers should increase the quality of the exported goods.  We should organize internatio nal projects for techno exchange.

35

GTP XII D For this Learning Circle the other teams informed us about facts from their countries and we found out the following things: WP1 team told us that in their country there is an ongoing political conflict which hasnâ€&#x;t involved violence. They said that they donâ€&#x;t know if itâ€&#x;s any way to stop it. The WP3 team said that another way to resolve the pollution problem from their country is to pressure the government into stopping the development on ton sands. Another solution would be the involvement of environmental organizations like Greenpeace. We also found out that the government of Canada has launched a campaign to help stop the use of drugs, so a solution to this problem consisted of anti-drug groups and plans to prevent drug abuse. The WP5 team told us that the biggest social issue that South Africa is facing is poverty and this is a consequence of a lot of factors like low standard of the educational system, poor health system and high crime rates. The African National Congress is trying to reduce the high poverty rate through different social programs and it is trying to create 36

new jobs. These solutions lead to a big drop in the number of people that were going to suffer from hunger (from 13.4 million in 2012 to 6.2 million in 2013) so we can see that there is hope and changes are made. The WP6 team told us that our government should make a law against Roma discrimination, but this law already exists: itâ€&#x;s the Government Order no.137 / 2000 on preventing and punishing all forms of discrimination with approvals and subsequent amendments. If this law is broken, you can make a complaint at the National Council for Combating Discrimination or even at the National Court. WP 7 said that six years ago the world economic crisis hit the world. Some banks went bankrupt and companies put padlock on the doors. Crisis effects were felt immediately in Romanian pockets. In a few months euro exchange rate hit 4.2 lei from 3.5 lei. Taxes were increased by 5 % and Romanian wages were reduced. We have a relatively young age and we are not able to offer solution that could solve this crisis, we tried to use our imagination and find something that we would do. Ideas like: creating some new jobs, reorientation of agricultural production. As a conclusion, 37

Romania fell badly in this period, but we are sure we can recover what we lost. The WP9 team believes that peace will always be something impossible to be achieved, because people will constantly seek reasons to fight. We and most of the population in our country consider it is poor because the president is cutting almost all the income from citizenâ€&#x;s pocket and our opinion is that there are too many corrupt politicians who are stealing to make their fortune bigger and bigger every year. If we had the power we would make them resign their function and we would replace them with someone whoâ€&#x;s actually capable of leading the country. The team from WP10 told us that the one big problem that can be found in all countries is fighting between people. But the biggest problem is that fighting is between youngsters, in small ages, and the reason for fight is something ridiculous: someone's been talked behind their back. WP11 team told us that one of the conflicts that exist in our country is the ethnic conflict between Romanians and Roma people. Another conflict is the economic one and they 38

believe that we could solve these problems if the government were more involved.

4) Did they come true or are you still working hard for them? 5) How advantageous are those dreams for you? DA1 group from Madagascar answers that their dreams in childhood were to become a famous singer, a model, a dancer, a journalist, an engineer. Those dreams were all in their childhood, but they donâ€&#x;t think about them anymore. They are grown-up now and they think of other dreams and ambitions, those which are about their future. They have to work very hard to achieve them. DA2 team from Cameroon tells that their first childhood dreams were influenced by their immediate environment. Some of them wanted to become doctors, pilots, football stars and they chose these professions because of what they experienced as children. For example, some of them were always dazzled when they saw planes flying and therefore sought to know more about planes. Most of them lived with their grandparents, who were frequently sick. So they wanted to become doctors so that they could treat them. But as they were growing up, their talents in school were not directed towards their childhood dreams anymore. They therefore decided to focus their attention on what they could easily achieve, rather than force a dream that was not theirs anymore. DA3 team from Romania tells that in childhood they dreamed to become mathematicians, as they liked math and its logic. They did a lot of exercises and participated in various competitions and they are still working for that dream. This dream is very advantageous, because it helps them at school and develops their logical thinking. 46

DA4 teamâ€&#x;s speaker from Macedonia doesn't really know which his first dream in childhood was, maybe to have an older brother. He was asking his parents to buy him one, and yes, after 11 and half years, they did buy him one. He didnâ€&#x;t work really hard :D for that dream. There was nothing that he could do. The dream came true 6 years ago. DA6 team from Romania tells that usually, children's dreams are to become famous and have a lot of money. The team hasn't given up on their first childhood dreams. Well, as they grew up, they realized that they have to work for their dreams to become true, and they are still working hard in order to realize their dreams. Their dreams are very advantageous, they give them a purpose in life, they motivate them to keep working harder and harder to realize them, they make them want to keep going and they always remind them of the great rewards that await for them if we they get the job done. DA7 teamâ€&#x;s speaker from Macedonia says that his first dream in childhood was to become a lawyer or a judge, as he liked justice for all people in the world. He is still working for that dream, which is very advantageous because it helps him at school and develops his way for his future.

DA8 team from Ukraine says their first dreams were connected with Santa Clause, his presents and the magic of this holiday. Their dreams have grown with them. They became older and their ambitions became more serious and 47

real. Now they're in the process of preparation to enter institutes and universities, which demands great work and study. In 6 months they'll try to enter universities and continue to create their future. DA9 from Hungary tell that they just play with their toys, wait for Christmas, Santa Claus, beacuse they know they will get some nice toys such as a new car or a new teddy. Boys love cars, girls love Barbies. In time they will have more and more things to do and parents will also tell them what to do or not to do. Hungarian kids are dreaming about school when they are very young. If they learn enough, they can go to secondary school. Secondary school is such a fun with a lot of new friends.

GTP X K TL9 (Class X K. Teacher Andrei Elena. Students: Alexandru Adelina Daniela, Bucur Alexandru, Chircă Diana Liliana, Grigore Diana Georgiana, Hanga Mădălin Gabriel, Sandu Gabriel) Our theme: Teen life Our questions: Teen life has changed a lot in many countries. 1) In our country you can get a driving license when you are 18. At what age can you get a driving license in your country? How do you think it feels to drive the car when you are 16? 2) In our country teenagers smoke a lot, 48

both boys and girls. Is smoking common among teenagers in your country? 3) Which are the favourite free time activities for teenagers in your country? 4) Is it common in your country for teenagers to spend a lot of time in front of a PC or a game console? Which are their favourite computer games? 5) What types of music are liked by teenagers in your country? TL2 tell that in Latvia they can get a driving license when they are 18. In their country teenagers smoke a lot, both boys and girls. In their small town mostly boys smoke. They start in classes 6-7. Only a few girls smoke in their town. However, in big towns there are a lot of teenagers who smoke, mostly secondary school students. The favourite free time activities for teenagers in Latvia are parties, doing different sport activities like handball, volleyball, floorball, football, chatting on the Internet and playing on the computer. They are interested in pop music and contemporary folk music and songs. They like hip-hop music too, and some boys are interested in hip-hop dancing. TL3 say that in Romania they can get a driving license at 18. They can drive a scooter at 16, but not cars. It's amazing to drive at 16, but they think it's dangerous too, as many car accidents happen in their country. Unfortunately, in Romania teenagers start to smoke from early ages, like 12-13-14 and that's not good at all. It is the same with teenagers in their school. Some of them think it is “cool to smoke, they start out of curiosity, but they don't realize how difficult it is to give up later. In Romania, in their free time teenagers go shopping with friends and young girls love this. Teenagers love to go out with friends and to spend their free nights in clubs. Some teenagers do sports in their free time. 49

The most popular sport for boys is football. However, many teenagers spend their free time in front of the computer, playing a lot of games or accessing social networks. A lot of teenagers play online games like League of Legends, Counter Strike or Metin2, but they like single player games too, like Assassin's Creed, Grand theft auto or others famous games. In Romania teenagers listen to music a lot. Their favourite types of music are rap, commercial music, rock music and dubstep. Some of their favourite bands are: Taxi band, La-la Band, Vunk, Vama, B.U.G Mafia. Some of their favourite singers are: Connect-r, Smiley, What's up, DOC.

TL5 tell that in Canada teenagers smoke a lot, both boys and girls. Smoking teenagers is not really common in Canada, and the smoking rate is lower than in most countries. The statistics from the websites show that 14% of Canada teenagers in grades 7 through 12 still say they smoke every day. But the students in TL5 team don't smoke because they don't like the smell of cigarettes. In Canada they can get a driving license at the age of 16. In Alberta people can get it at 14. People from B.C., Nova Scotia, PEI, Quebec, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick can get it at 16. People in Newfoundland and Labrador can get it at 17. About 45% of the people at the age of 16-19 have a driving license. 50

Most Canadian teenagers like rap people, maybe they like rock too. TL7 tell that people in Ukraine have the right to get a driving license at the age of 18. The team considers it's not right to give a driving license to those who are only 16! A teenager at 16 years is still a child, and they don't have much experience in life. They can not be responsible for they deeds. If there is an accident, the parents will be punished. Teenage smokers really are a problem at the present time! In Ukraine there a lot of teenage smokers. Most of them are girls! The team thinks it‟s very dangerous for their health, for their children and the whole society. They are sure their Government and their Parliament must make strict laws and do everything to overcome this problem. In their free time, teens in Ukraine often like to go to cafes, clubs, in the center of the city, or just go to someone's home and listen to music, chat, laugh and simply have a lot of fun. Many children go to different clubs, a dance club, literature, journalist, art clubs, sport sections etc. Teenagers like to spend their free time outdoors too. They often have picnics, go for a walk to the forests, go hiking. They also adore travelling. Children spend a lot of free time with the computer too. Although one could walk in the street, see friends or visit relatives, most of all they prefer the PC. As for the mobile phone, it has a lot of advantages. When you go on a journey, it makes it easier as you can listen to music and search on the Internet and chart In the social nets. As to computer games, the most favourite are “Minecraft”, “Dota”, “Counter Strike”, “Star Wars” and others. A lot of children in their school have IPads, which are becoming very popular these days. 51

Teens in Ukraine listen to different kinds of music, from rock to rap, both American and Russian. Everyone has different tastes, but it is difficult to say which style is the most popular. They listen to rap about fiction, because it is very mysterious for them. Some of them prefer pop, others techno and even folk music, some love jazz and others.

52

TL10 tell that they are Romanian too and in their country you are allowed to drive if you are 18 years old. They think it‟s exciting, but dangerous, because at this age you are not able to control all your feelings and you can make more mistakes. Unfortunately, there are a lot of teenagers who smoke in their school. They refuse to understand the danger of such a bad habit and they shouldn‟t spend their parents‟money. As teenagers all over the world, the team spends a lot of time in front of the computer, talking to friends, listening to music, playing games. Their favourite games are FIFA AND G.T.A. In Romania teenagers listen to different types of music: rock, pop, disco, rap, classical, “manele‟‟. The type of music they listen to depends on their education. TL11 tell that in their country they can get a driving license only when you are 18, but you can get a learners‟licence (someone with a license must always be in the car) at the age of 16. Most of the boys love to be able to drive a car at an early age. The team thinks it is cool to drive a car at the age of 16. TL12 say they can obtain a driving license after they turn 18 years old. Some teenagers start smoking because they think that is a good thing, but they're wrong. Generally there are many guys who start smoking and sometimes they influence the girls. Their favorite activities are: walks in the park, going out with friends, reading books, listening to music and playing computer games. Some of the teenagers are dependent of computer games or social sites. Their favorite games are IMVU, Sims, Fifa, Counter-Strike and others. Their favorite type of music is pop music. 53

GTP XI A CL7 (Class XI A, Teachers: Andrei Elena, Vrînceanu Gilda, Students: Avram Vlăduț Alexandru, Calcan Ionuț Alexandru, Damian Daniel Laurențiu, Dorobanțu Cristi, Gomoescu George Daniel, Mocanu Elena Daniela, Perțea Alexandru Ionuț) Our theme: 21st century learning. Our questions: In our country Romania technology has become more and more common in learning in the 21st century. How did technology change your way of learning in your country? Do you think that all aspects of learning have developed in a good way, or are there some aspects which are not so good? CL1 think that modern technology has completely changed how they learn things. Before the Internet people spent countless hours searching for information through books. But now information is readily available to anyone that can find it on the Internet. The power and potential of the Internet has been recognized in Macedonia. That is why every school in the towns and many schools in villages have been equipped with Internet access. The classrooms in those schools have been fitted with computers that the teachers use to present the information. Also in many cases computers in schools are used for research on school work, projects, etc. This is beneficial to both students and teachers. Teachers can convey the information to the students easier by using the computers. And since all the students have computers in front of them they can receive the information better. However, the down side to giving 54

every student a computer in the classroom is that they can use the computer in an irresponsible way, playing games, when the students are supposed to do research in class and to learn. CL2 think technology plays a very important role in the process of learning in their country, it helps them very much with our lessons and they think the students and the teachers have to benefit from the advantages of using technology. It's much faster for them to just search a lesson on the Internet and it's also faster and better for the teachers, because it helps them explain the lesson to all students and make sure they will all understand it. They also think books can't be replaced with anything else, they don't think e-books, tablets or anything else could be replacing a book, because those devices can't recreate the joy of reading a book. Secondly, replacing all books would mean a lot of investment and books are just cheaper, easier to get and they think they are the best way to learn. They are also aware that we live in the 21st century and it is the “century of speedâ€?, but their opinion is that we shouldnâ€&#x;t' be so dependent on smart phones, computers and anything like that, because technology is not going to fix all of our troubles. CL3 answered that technology has changed all of us a lot. There is no doubt it has changed learning in our country Ukraine. The influence of this process on the results of education is twofold. On one hand, the access to the Internet has widened the students' outlook, they have the opportunity with the click of a mouse to find any kind of information they need. They use the computer to prepare Power Point Presentations, make videos and do a lot of other 55

things, thanks to technology. On the other hand, students don't read much nowadays, don't work with a book like their grandmothers did. As they get a lot of things ready, they don't spare much time gathering and analyzing and maybe in this way they are losing something important. CL4 think that technology eased students' access to information, as well as shortening the searching time. Even more, it widened the areas in which information could be found, making it easier for students to study. Secondly, as in everything, there is a dark side to technology. It makes it easier to cheat on evaluations and also it makes the student work less for the information, as he/she takes it for granted. Even though technology makes everything seem easier nowadays, a lot of kids don't make an effort to actually get something done by themselves. CL5 believe that because they live in a century of speed and they have a hectic schedule which affects on the way of studying because, many thing happen unexpectedly and quickly which are unknown for them too, but still they have to learn them to make the way of studying easier and to deal with all the challenges that are necessary. They prefer both of them, but still they would rather choose books.

56

CL8 said that technology changed their way of learning in so many ways. They don‟t have to carry their textbooks with them everywhere they go anymore. Due to technology they can learn on their mobile phones and many other electronic devices using the Internet which are portable and can be carried around. All aspects of learning have developed in a good way due to the introduction of technology. CL9 told that technology has become explode everywhere in their country. Now, it‟s changing their way of learning. Actually, technology helps everybody most of all students to study. Technology is helping students to research lessons, exercises. So they think that all aspects of learning have developed in a good way, but it is well to education and it is improving their mind. But learners are beginning lazy, just surfing the Internet and wait only for the result, so they don‟t have their own opinions anymore. GTP XI E ub5 (Class XI E. Teachers: Andrei Elena, Căpriță Paraschiva. Students: Cătălin Ionuț, Cocor Sergiu Andrei, Florescu Iasmina Elena, Hoinaru Cristian Mihai, Mihai Iulia Diana, Șerbănică Alex Nicușor) Our theme: United beyound our diversity Our questions: 1) Do you think that differences in colour, religion or beliefs really matter in relations between people? 2) Can we pass over these differences? Can we create a bond between people with different beliefs and colour? 3) Can you, as an individual, accept a gay person, a Jew or a black person (or white, if you are black) next to you in the 57

bus or in the plane? Could you be friends with such a person? 4) If you were an employee, would you make any differences when it comes to hire people? Would it matter if the solicitor would be black (or white, if you are black), yellow or Jew? ub2 said that the terms “Yellow” and “Jew” are considered racist in Canada. They say Asian and Jewish. In their opinion religions, beliefs and skin colour, do not change the way they interact with people. In Canada, they have a Charter of Right and Freedoms, which was founded on July 1st, 1982. However, these rules do not prevent racism from occurring, and they see racism in many forms. But their group would not discriminate against anyone. They accept everyone including Jewish people, black people and gay people, anytime and anywhere. One of the people answering this question is Jewish, one is Muslim, as well a member of the group has gay cousins, and one member of the group is black. The principal of our school and two of their teachers are also black people. If they were employers, they would not make decisions based on race, ethnic origin, colour, religion, sexual orientation or age. They would make choices based on kindness, intelligence, and skill. In Canada, discrimination is not big problem and is illegal! : D However there are still people who are racist regardless of the rules. An example is a common issue called Police profiling. Police profiling is when the police assume that someone will commit a crime because of their race, ethnic origin, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age or mental/physical state. They make these profiles by looking at the crime statistics and saying, for example, look most 58

people who robbed a house this month were black and were 21 years old. Police assume now that all black, 21 year old people are going to rob a house. ub4 said that they don‟t think that these differences should matter so much because we shouldn‟t care about them. They don‟t care if someone is gay, fat, less clever, ugly, beautiful, black, white, a boy or a girl, as long as they are nice to them, they will be nice to them. Of course we could pass over those differences, we just need to accept each other and understand each other, we can surely create a bond between those people with the “same differences”, meaning the same beliefs, the same colour, the same religion, … people have friends with common interests, right? Sometimes those differences make us the same. Also, they don‟t care if the person is of other religion, because everyone with their beliefs, or black people, because they don‟t have a choice, they didn‟t choose to be like that, and is the same with the gay people, we all feel the same, we cry in the same way. We can also have friends like this, they mean if you like someone you like it and that‟s it, we can be friends with everybody. As long as someone knows what to do at their job and they are doing it well, and they have the necessary abilities and qualifications, they will not make any differences. ub6 said that in their opinion, the differences between people are the things which make each of us special. Even if there are differences in color, religion or beliefs they don‟t really matter in relationships, but it‟s everyone‟s point of view in accepting or denying them. They consider they can pass over these differences. Each person chooses to be who he wants to be. We can always create a bond between people 59

with different beliefs and colors. If they were employees, they wouldn‟t consider the differences on hiring people. What a person does in particular it‟s not their job. If he‟s good in what he does, he‟s perfect for his position, for his job and for this society, and it doesn‟t matter at all if he‟s black, yellow or Jew. He just has to be good in his work. ub7 think that differences in colour, religion, beliefs are not important, as we are all humans with the same rights, dreams, ambitions. We should be more aware about our differences and how important are these... if we would be all the same world would be very boring. Trying to understand each other is a big step to accept the others. Tolerance and understanding should be one of the most important qualities for every human. It is not important the colour of skin, religion or sexual orientation. It can be even more interesting to discuss with such a person and to discover new things. If you were an employee, would you make any differences when it comes to hire people. If they want their business to go well, they have to see the competences people have, not their personal life or beliefs. GTP XII G wp6 (Class XII G. Teachers: Andrei Elena Buga Mihaela. Our questions: What are the main reasons for starting wars between countries and how can they be avoided? Have there been wars in your country with major consequences? wp1 said that the main reasons for starting wars between countries is the desire for supremacy, the difference in religion, political problems or economic issues between two countries. The only way to solve this problem is to accept that some of us are different then others, and that we can live together as we were all the same. In their country there were wars with major consequences, like the First World War, the Second World War and the Revolution against the communist regime in December 1989. wp3 told that war is a result in a difference of perspective on morality between a nation or a group of nations. By analyzing major wars through two lenses, the recognition of inter perspective relationships and the inability to comprehend opposing views, it becomes apparent that war is a result of the inability to fathom differences in morality! Peace is simply the absence of warfare, hence in order to avoid warfare one must simply avoid the cause of peace. Having already isolated and recognized the cause of warfare as a inability to fathom a difference in morality, the simple solution presented is to understand that more than one sense of morality can exist. In doing so, one is now able to negotiate and compromise on conicts and negate all war efforts wp4 answered that Canada is religiously diverse, encompassing a wide range of beliefs and customs. Although Canada is well-known as the country of peacekeeping, it doesnâ€&#x;t mean that it has not experienced the effects of war. Canada's strong attachment to the British Empire and 61

Commonwealth led to major participation in British military efforts in the Second Boer War, War of 1812, World War I and World War II. Since then, Canada has been an advocate for multilateralism, making efforts to resolve global issues in collaboration with other nations. Today, it joins the ongoing fight, along with the United States, against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). wp7 consider that wars between countries result from several reasons, including, but not limited to: insults, the desire for empire and wealth , competition between countries, competition over scarce resources-many wars have been fought over fertile farm and grazing lands, water and, today, oil., desire for independence, desire for political reform, moral reasons, political differences, ethnic hatred. To stop terror and avoid war, we must first understand what causes it, and what approaches have, and have not, been successful in the past and don't be afraid to speak out, and to listen: talk with your neighbors, your friends, relatives, coworkers, classmates. The Hungarian–Romanian War was fought between the Hungarian Soviet Republic and the Kingdom of Romania from November 1918 until March 1920, with the main military operations ending in August 1919, The Romanians lost 188 officers and 11,478 soldiers, out of which 69 officers and 3,601 soldiers died. The Romanians started retreating from Hungary in November 1919. Between February 14 and March 28, 1920 all Romanian Army units left Hungarian territory. wp8 said that there are lots of reasons for starting wars, but they can vary from country to country. In their opinion, some of the main reasons are: disputes between confessional beliefs, political conflicts and the thirst for power and 62

domination. Romania was involved in both World Wars and the consequences were quite major for their small and powerless country. They lost some important territories, they had to pay to war debts, they fell under the communist regime and they lost a lot of brave soldiers. In conclusion, war is never, under no circumstances, a good thing for any country. wp9 believe there are plenty of reasons to start a war, but probably the main one is the conflict of interests between two sides. Avoiding this situation is not easy, but in order to stop a war one of the parties has to take their troops home. However, in most cases, nobody wants to retreat and lose everything they have fought for up until that moment, so there isn't really any clear method of stopping wars. Even though no major war was fought in their country, Romania has partaken in battles on numerous occasions, alongside other nations, having signed different partnerships during the course of history. wp10 believe that wars break out because of the wrong assessment of the international situation or because the political strategies came under the control of elites – all contribute in some way to the feeling that wars are 'accidents' occurring in the international system. Wars are a result of conscious calculations of the ruling elite in these extensive international efforts to acquire monopoly on scarce material goods. wp11 consider there are a lot of reasons for starting war, but the biggest is envy. Because of it, more powerful countries attack the small ones if they have a lot of natural resources (like coal, oil, natural gases). Everybody wants something from the others, so they choose the war instead of 63

talking and negotiating. We can't stop it, there will always be conflicts like that, but we can minimize it. And that is possible just if we understand that the bloody method is not the best and choose to use our brains, not our guns. Another topic would be the religious war. People fight and kill each other in the name of their God. To stop this, we must learn that people have the right to opinion and we can't make them believe what we believe with force. They will die for it if they strong beliefs but they will not believe what the others want. In conclusion, to minimize the wars we must have respect for each other, because everything starts from respect.
