The enrollm ent at the sc hoo l has more th a n doubled during the las t ten yea r s, b ut during this same period there h as been a n increase of on ly approx im a t e ly ten per ce nt in the ava il a ble fl oor space on the campus. Aft er teaching school a nd doin g contract wo rk for th e U ni o n Pacific Coa l Compan y t o ea rn funds fo r a college education , he ent er ed MSM in September, 1927, fo r a course in civil eng in eerin g . He was one of th e m os t out sta ndin g stu de nts scholasti ca ll y in school.

Francis E. Taylor, fo r the past thirty-one yea r s edit o r a nd pub lisher of th e New E ra, a Rolla wee kl y paper, di ed a t hi s home h er e Ma rch 5th, of bro nchi a l pneumonia, afte r an illn ess of on ly five days.

M r. Taylor was born at London, Ontario. Septem ber 28, 1856. In ea rl y boyhood he ca me to Chillic ot he, Mo ., w h er e at fo urt ee n years of age h e bega n hi s fir st n ewspape r wo rk.

In ea rly m an hoo d h e we nt to Cleve la nd , O hio, whe r e he was emp loyed by the Clevela nd Plain Dea le r, and la t er he wo rked o n th e Buffalo Express. Returning t o Chillicothe h e was associated for some time w ith the Chillicothe Tribune, and lat er was ed it or a nd publisher of th e Chillicothe Dai ly Ma il and S tar. In 1898 M r. T aylor purchased th e R olla New E ra, w hi ch h e publi shed up to th e time of hi s death.

H e has always bee n active in Republican politics, a nd h as held va ri ous offices in the party. :M r. Taylor is su rvived by hi s w ife, Mrs. Byrda E. Taylor, w ho m he married at Hamilton, Mo., in 1893 . Mrs. Taylor has lon g been ac ti ve in club wo rk in Missouri and has held num ero us o ffic es in th e wome n's federated club wo rk , now bein g president of the sixt h district of the Federated Wo me n's Clubs of :Missouri. He is a lso survid ed by one son, Huston Taylor, M5M '2 1, w ho is a chem ist w ith t he Na ti o nal L ea d Co., Keokuk, I owa . Funeral services we r e he ld fr om the Episcopa l Chur ch in Rolla on March 7th.
