In ord er to suppl y sufficient heat fo r lar.c;e-scale mining, as at Key\' Gu lf. about 7,500,000 ga ll on s of water , heated und er 11l"eSSure to a temperature of appr oximately 385 °F. , mu st be [lumped in to t lJ e sul ph ur fo r ma tion. The priman' r eq ui site for s ulphur mining, t her efo r e, is an effi cient power plant to h ea t t hi s \nlter. The po\,'er h ouse is located at so me di sta nce from t he sulphur a r ea to avoid t he poss ibili ty of damage du e to subsidence or ca "ing of the s urface caused by the extractio n of s ulphur.
