Rolla, MO 65401 DATA FORM B - PART 4 STUDENT PERFORMANCE MEASURES (Cognitive or Affective)
The administrators of the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR) normally do not make a formal effort to quantitate the development of undergraduate or graduate stu dents; however, they regularly receive and monitor information from the public rela tive to the reception of students into productive positions. Some measures, which are relative to this question, are: 1) UMR students are sought after by most of the major employers of technically educated people. Only the less capable students have experienced some delay in finding employment. Many have multiple offers, and several have employment opportunities such that they do not fully utilize UMR's interviewing services. There were no unem ployment problems in the early 70's, just fewer job offers per student. These comments supplement and are supplemented by form G. 2) Although UMR is not an eletist university, it has a natural admission screen set by the rigor of its disciplines. This causes the admitted students to be the most capable of any major institution reported by the Missouri Coordinating Board of Higher Education. 3) Ihe administrators and faculty of UMR, as a part of their counseling service, have concern for the students who leave the campus without degrees. A faculty committee, which is currently chaired by Dr. A. Glen Haddock, translates this concern into an active function and can report in detail on its results. 4) Both baccalaureate and master's degree recipients are regularly sought by the Nation's best graduate institutions for work on higher degrees. The pressures of these institutions and industry for the recruitment of graduate students is a major problem. 5) UMR's baccalaureate students do well in national competition. More than half of the students who take the GRE advanced tests perform at levels above 600. 6) Within the State of Missouri this past year, nine students qualified for NSF fellowships. Their baccalaureate institutions were University of Missouri-Columbia, 2; University of Missouri-Rolla, 3; University of Missouri-St. Louis, 1, and Washington University, 3. Missouri has approximately 100,000 students in higher education. UMR, which serves less than 5% of these, retained one out of three of these fellowships. 7) UMR alumni are scattered over the world and are vocal in the support of their alma mater. UMR frequently benefits from their efforts at recruitment, which often includes their own sons and daughters. Student satisfaction has always been high.
8a
8) Comparison of 1976-77 grades with 1972-73 grades indicates that UMR has avoided grade inflation as reported nationally. Higher graduating senior GPA’s result from retention of the more capable students, whereas those receiving the lower grades usually transfer or seek jobs. Although the above is but a partial response to Part 4, more information can be made available by the department chairmen and other individuals upon request.

INCOME AND EXPENDITURES (Report for this campus only)
This report should cover the last completed fiscal year. An institution which closes its books at some date other than June 30 should use its own fiscal period and state the date of closing its books. Where the fiscal year ends on September 30 or later, use the previous fiscal year. Accounts kept in conformity with the recommendations of the National Committee on the Preparation of the Manual of College and University Business Administration will lend themselves readily to the completion of this report. Fill in each item in the report form, using zero where there is nothing to report. Please give totals for checking purposes. Enter figures to the nearest dollar. An institution maintaining separate corporations for the management of service enterprises (dormitories, bookstores, athletics, etc.) or for other purposes should include the operations of such corporations in this report. Indicate by check mark whether: 1.
Income is reported on cash basis ______
2.
Expenditures are reported on cash basis ______ basis

(Cash basis: Items are reported as income and as expenditures only when cash is received or made available to the institution and when it is paid out. Accrual basis: Income is taken into the accounts as it becomes due the institution or when a bill is rendered; expenditures are taken into the accounts when obligations are incurred.) Data Form D follows the format developed by the United States Office of Education, which the institution will use in completion of the HEGIS report. As an alternative, a comparable financial report may be submitted. HEGIS REPORT: A modified HEGIS form is submitted,
