local business people in person Name and Business Dee Finnegan, partner at Spectrum Family Law. Where do you live? In a very, very old house that is in constant need of attention and tlc but I love it! What’s your favourite local venue? I don’t know Sawbridgeworth that well but I’m looking forward to trying out the restaurants. What’s your favourite local shop? Anywhere I can buy food! What do you like best about Sawbridgeworth? I’ve heard good things about the small, independent shops there. What do you like doing when you’re not working?
I do love good restaurants and going to the theatre. I set up my business because... To have more autonomy to manage what we do and how we do it. The firm was set up to fill a gap in the market for a specialist family law firm offering expertise. Best thing that’s happened to you recently? Grove cottage christmas tree recycling in aid of grove cottage East Herts Council, Coopers of Stortford and the Tree Management Company have come together to provide a Christmas Tree recycling facility in Bishop’s Stortford on 8th January 2017. All proceeds from donations will go to Grove Cottage, the home of Bishop’s Stortford Mencap. The partners hope to raise hundreds of pounds towards the continued provision of social and educational activities for people of all ages with learning disabilities. Sue, Grove Cottage Community Fundraiser says ‘It’s wonderful that our local council and local businesses are working together on this project. With a donation to Grove Cottage given with every tree that is recycled we will be able to continue to give local people with a learning disability support as well as their families and carers.’
to recycle their tree at Link Road on the 8th January,’ he said. ‘This event is a great start for our partnership with Grove Cottage, our charity of year for 2017.’ Trees will be chipped/shredded using specialist equipment from the Tree Management Company onsite on the day. ’The equipment is quite a sight,’ says Steve managing Director from TTMC. ‘We are delighted to be a part of this incentive that not only benefits Grove Cottage, an important local charity but recycles the trees sustainably too.’ Christmas Tree Recycling will be located at the Link Road car park in Bishop’s Stortford on Sunday 8th January from 10am – 4pm. Just drop off your tree and make a donation to Grove Cottage. Hot drinks and snacks will be available to purchase.
Graham McAndrew, East Herts Council’s Executive member for environment and the public space, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to support Grove Cottage by providing some parking space. I’m sure residents will welcome this opportunity to recycle their Christmas trees in a convenient location.” Marc Hollingworth, Manager at Coopers of Stortford said the store will be promoting the event. ‘All customers who purchase a Christmas Tree with us will be encouraged

a mayor’s life TOWN-WIDE SCHOOL COUNCIL AND COMMUNITY PROJECTS by David Royle
On 29 November we held the first of a new set of town-wide school council meetings in the Council Chamber to increase understanding of what the Council does but also to discuss possible community projects schools can be involved in. We sat amidst the remains of Santa’s grotto from the previous weekend’s Christmas Lights event. Representatives from Years 5 and 6 came from High Wych, Mandeville, Spellbrook and Reedings with Leventhorpe’s Head Boy, Head Girl and students from Years 7 and 8 and Assistant Head Alex Francis facilitating. Pupils worked in mixed school groups to come up with ideas and./or discuss ideas they had brought with them from their own school councils. There was a real buzz in the Chamber! Town Council officers made a presentation about what we do and our PCSO and Police Constable also contributed. My thanks to all the schools for their enthusiastic participation and to my Council colleagues. Fawbert and Barnard are being kept in the loop. Lots of good ideas were generated and together will be refining/voting on the ideas that came out of the group work to arrive at a project or projects. It is a great opportunity to involve younger citizens in improving our environment and forward planning. These are our future councillors, mayors, community leaders etc. and should rightly be more involved in, and consulted on, the future development of our town.

waterlane theatre company present dad’s army Who do you think you are kidding Mrs Hitler? We all know Dad’s Army, don’t we? Well think again - Water Lane Theatre Company are taking a rather unique look at the Croft and Perry classic – and this time the ladies are in charge! But don’t panic - all your favourite characters will still be there - Captain Mainwaring, Sgt. Wilson, Corporal Jones with the catch phrases we all know almost by heart (Pike is still a ‘stupid boy’). The only difference is that the entire platoon will be played by a female cast! In a complete reversal, Mrs Fox, Mrs Pike and others will be performed by the men of the company-not pretty but certainly unique! Director Granville Rush believes that this is the
first time that Dad’s Army has performed in this way and that the unusual casting will give this familiar favourite a unique twist that will not only surprise the audience but allow them to see the classic comedy in a completely different way. The play is at the Rhodes Arts Centre on February 2-4th and will support the Isabel Hospice with Bishop’s Stortford based financial advisors Enable IFA as sponsors. Evening performance tickets will be £14 and £12 concessions with a group discount of 10 tickets for the price of 9. There will be a matinee performance on the Saturday with all tickets at £10.

Turn right without crossing and follow path with trees on left, until tarmac path leads right through playground to reach river again. Turn left and keep going, with river now on right, over Hockerill Street, under station road, crossing over (and a little right) along London Road and continue for a mile over lock and past Rushy Mead nature reserve to second lock. Turn right on Pig Lane and, after gate, right again into field. Keep straight on path to emerge, via lanes and railway crossing ahead onto Twyford Road.
