HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW PASTOR/EVANGELIST GAIL WRIGHT CHILDREN OF GOD IS THE APPLE OF HIS EYE AND IS VERY SERIOUS ABOUT US. WHO EVER TOUCHES OR DOES HARM TO US HAS TO DEAL WITH THE LORD GOD HIMSELF. FOR HE WATCHES OVER US. ZECHARIAH 2:8 SO WHY DOES IT SEEM ALOT OF US WHO ARE BORN AGAIN WALK AROUND WITH OUR HEADS HANGING DOWN AS IF WOE IS ME ALL THE TIME. WE SHOULD BE EXCITED ESPECIALLY ABOUT THIS TIME OF OUR LIVES. WHY IS THIS BECAUSE THE LORD GOD DOES NOT KEEP SECRETS FROM US, HE IS TELLING US WHAT TO EXPECT AS TO WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THIS WORLD WHICH IS KNOWN TO US AND DOES NOT LEAD US IN THE DARK. MATHEW 24 IS A GOOD SIGN TO THIS BECAUSE EVEN WHEN THE DISCIPLES WERE WITH HIM HE TOLD THEM WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR. ALSO HE TELLS US IN 2 TIMOTHY 3: 1-17; 1 TIMOTHY 4:1-5. NOW DON’T CONFUSED THE WORD SPEAKING HEAR THAT EVERY CREATURE OF GOD IS GOOD, AND NOTHING IS TO BE REFUSED HERE. HE IS SPEAKING ABOUT FOOD, NOT MAN. STATING THAT AS LONG AS YOU SANCTIFY IT WITH PRAYER, BY SPEAKING GRACE OVER YOUR FOOD BEFORE IT IS PARTAKEN TO EAT IN JESUS NAME. THERE IS SO MUCH TO LEARN ABOUT WHAT THUS SAYS THE LORD. THIS IS WHY WE SHOULD TAKE THE TIME TO READ AND PRAY ABOUT WHAT WE ARE READING IF THERE IS NO UNDERSTANDING, FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT IS HERE TO HELP US IN THIS. THAT IS IN GETTING UNDERSTANDING AND THE LORD GOD GRANTS US THIS WHEN WE ASK HIM FOR UNDERSTANDING. MANY OF US JUST TAKE SOME THINGS FOR GRANTED AND NOT EVEN SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES. SPIRIT THAT HE HAS GIVEN US TO LIVE IN ON THIS EARTH UNTIL HE CALLS US BACK HOME. HE IS SPIRIT AND THAT IS WHERE WE SHOULD BE IN THE SPIRIT TO KNOW WHAT IT IS WE SHOULD BE DOING AND LIVING DAY BY DAY IN HIM. WE ARE GOD’S CHILDREN WHEN WE ARE LIVING UP UNDER HIS RULES HIS COMMANDMENTS. THESE ARE HIS HOUSE RULES THAT WE SHOULD ABIDE UNDER IF WE ARE TO BE HIS CHILDREN. OTHERWISE WHEN WE ARE DISOBEDIENT OF HIS COMMANDMENTS WE ARE GOING AGAINST HIM. SO, IF SOMEONE SAYS, “I LOVE GOD” AND HATES HIS BROTHER, HE IS A LIAR; FOR HE WHO DOES NOT LOVE HIS BROTHER WHOM HE HAS SEEN, HOW CAN HE LOVE GOD WHOM HE HAS NOT SEEN? WHOEVER BELIEVES THAT JESUS IS THE CHRIST IS BORN OF GOD AND EVERYONE WHO LOVES HIM WHO BEGOT ALSO LOVES HIM WHO IS BEGOTTEN OF HIM. FOR WHATEVER IS BORN OF GOD OVERCOMES THE WORLD. FOR THE LORD GOD HAS TOLD US THAT IT’S OUR FAITH THAT PLEASES HIM AND HE WATCHES OVER US AND PROTECTS US HIS CHILDREN, THOSE WHO BELIEVE. WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF FAITH. FOR THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL LIVE BY FAITH ALONE. WE ARE RIGHTEOUS. PRAISE GOD, OH YES WE ARE RIGHTEOUS AND WE CAN BELIEVE THAT WE CAN DO ALL THINGS IN CHRIST JESUS. HOW MARVELOUS IS THAT. 10 Heart Attack Symptoms

HEART ATTACK VICIM

Most men and women think that a heart attack comes out of the blue, but there are certain symptoms that should ring the alert bell. A heart attack is nothing like what we see in movies. It’s not like a person gets gripped by VOICES OF THE WIND MAGAZINE

a sudden chest discomfort falling on the floor. In fact the heart attack symptoms are not as obvious or intense. These symptoms differ for different people, and that is why a person should be more

1. Chest Pain/Discomfort

Restricted feeling shooting down the left arm and other parts of the body is a common sign of an impending heart attack. An individual with a blocked artery or a heart danger may feel certain pressure in the chest accompanied by a stinging pain.
 A lot of people even feel like an elephant is sitting atop their chest. The feeling can last for more than few minutes, especially when a person indulges in physical activity. In case the pain is very brief, it is probably not a symptom related to your heart. But if the pain is severe, you must not delay and call 911. Cardiac symptom Cardiac symptoms are often not the same in women as in men. These differences, if unrecognized by women and their doctors, can present a hazard to women who have heart disease.

In standard textbooks of cardiology, much space is devoted to a description of the symptoms that typically occur with heart disease. In most cases, these "typical" symptoms turn out to be a recitation of the symptoms as they are commonly experienced by men. And while cardiologists (relying on those textbooks) may think about the symptoms ofheart disease in women as being "atypical," when you consider that more women are dying of heart disease today than men, it may be statistically more correct to think of men's symptoms as the ones that are "atypical." If you are a woman who is experiencing symptoms that you think might be related to your heart, you need to see a doctor. Here are some of the ways in which the symptoms of heart disease experienced by women can differ from the symptoms experienced by menAngina Doesn't Necessarily Equal

Chest Pain in Women Angina is typically described as a pressure-like chest pain that may radiate to the jaw or shoulder, and in men that's usually accurate. But many women with angina will report a hot or burning sensation, or even tenderness to touch, that may be located in the back, shoulders, arms or jaw. And, often they have no actual chest discomfort at all. Any good doctor will think of the possibility of angina whenever a patient (of either sex) describes any sort of fleeting discomfort located anywhere above the waist that occurs during strenuous activity. Doctors really shouldn't be thrown off by "atypical" descriptions. However, because too many doctors persist in believing that coronary artery disease is relatively uncommon in women, they may write such symptoms off as mere musculoskeletal pain or gastrointestinal (or even less forgivably) emotional disturbanances.

Angina With Normal Coronary Arteries Is More Common in Women Furthermore, women are much more likely than men to experience angina when theircoronary arteries appear completely "normal" during cardiac catheterization. These women are often told that their symptoms are due to a gastrointestinal disorder (or worse, that the symptoms are in their head), when in fact they have a significant cardiac problem.

1. Heart Attacks Are Different, Too Heart attacks and acute coronary syndrome may also behave differently in women than in the typical male. Frequently, women having heart attacks will experience nausea, vomiting, indigestion, shortness of breath or simply sudden and extreme fatigue - but no chest pain. Unfortunately, it is easy for doctors to attribute such symptoms to something other than the heart. Women also are more likely than men to have silent myocardial infarctions - that is, heart attacks without any acute symptoms at all, which are diagnosed only retrospectively when subsequent cardiac symptoms occur.

Women Tend to Minimize Their Symptoms Studies now indicate that women tend to complain less about their cardiac symptoms than men, so they may fail to alert their doctors to symptoms that really should not be ignored. Why they tend to do this is pure speculation. Perhaps women are more innately stoic than men, or perhaps they are tired of being told by doctors they're just anxious. Either way, it is important that you tell your doctor about ANY new or disturbing symptom that even remotely might be related to your heart.

When Should Women Seek Medical Help For Possible Cardiac Symptoms? Given that cardiac symptoms in women may not follow the textbook, how do you know when you should seek medical help for symptoms that MIGHT be related to your heart? The rule you should follow is really pretty simple - if you think it might be related to your heart, see a doctor. Here are some specific guidelines that might help:

Go to your doctor or to the emergency room right away if you have any of the following symptoms: 1. Episodes of pain, pressure, burning or squeezing in the chest, jaw, shoulders, back, or arms, lasting up to 5 to 10 minutes 2. Unexplained episodes of shortness of breath lasting up to 5 to 10 minutes 3. Episodes of palpitations with lightheadedness or dizziness Get medical help if you might be having a heart attack Call 911 immediately if you experience any of these symptoms: 1. Unexplained shortness of breath lasting more than 5 to 10 minutes 2. Sudden severe nausea, vomiting or indigestion 3. Sudden sweating for no reason 4. Sudden unexplained extreme fatigue 5. Loss of consciousness or fainting 6. Sudden, unexplained, panicky feeling of doom Again, the key is to listen to your body, and follow your instincts. If you experience a symptom that is disturbing to you in any way, which even remotely might be related to your heart, get yourself checked out. If the doctor brushes you off, that's a reflection on the doctor, and not on you. That's also a sign that it's time to get yourself a new doctor, one who will actually do what is necessary to get to the bottom of your symptoms.

In Romania, gingerbread is called turtă dulce and usually has sugar glazing. A variety of gingerbread in Bulgaria is known as меденка ("made of honey"). Traditionally the cookie is as big as the palm of the hand, round and flat, with a thin layer of chocolate. Other common ingredients include honey, cinnamon, ginger and dried clove. Gingerbread is popular in England, and is available in supermarkets. As in other countries, Gingerbread biscuits are often decorated with Royal icing. In Panama, a confection named yiyinbre is a gingerbread cake made of ginger and molasses; it is typical from the region of Chiriqui. Another popular confection is quequi or queque which can be like a chewy biscuit made with ginger, molasses and coconut.

In England, gingerbread may refer to a cake, or a type of cookie / biscuit made with ginger. In the biscuit form, it commonly takes the form of a gingerbread man. Gingerbread men were first attributed to the court of QueenElizabeth I, who served the figurines to foreign dignitaries.[7] Today, however, they are generally served around Christmas. Parkin is a form of soft gingerbread cake made with oatmeal and treacle which is popular in northern England. In the United States, this form of gingerbread is sometimes called "gingerbread cake" or "ginger cake" to distinguish it from the harder forms. French pain d'ĂŠpices is somewhat similar, though generally slightly drier, and involves honey rather than treacle. Originally French pain d'ĂŠpices did not contain ginger. In the Netherlands and Belgium, a soft and crumbly gingerbread called Peperkoek, Kruidkoek or Ontbijtkoek is popularly served at breakfast time or during the day, thickly sliced and often topped with butter. In Germany gingerbread is made in two forms: a soft form called Lebkuchen and a harder form, particularly associated with carnivals and street markets such as the Christmas markets that occur in many German towns. The hard gingerbread is made in decorative shapes, which are then further decorated with sweets and icing. The tradition of cutting gingerbread into shapes takes many other forms, and exists in many countries, a well-known example being the gingerbread man. Traditionally, these were dunked in port wine. In Ashkenazi Jewish cuisine, the honey cake eaten at Rosh Hashanah (New Year) closely resembles the Dutch peperkoek or the German Lebkuchen, though it has wide regional variations. In the Nordic countries, the most popular form of ginger confection is the pepperkaker (Norwegian), pepparkakor (Swedish), brunkager (Danish),piparkökur (Icelandic), piparkakut (Finnish) and in the Baltic countries piparkūkas (Latvian) or piparkoogid (Estonian). They are thin, brittle cookies / biscuits that are particularly associated with the extended Christmas period. In Norway and Sweden, pepperkaker/pepparkakor are also used as window decorations, the pepperkaker/pepparkakor are then a little thicker than usual and decorated with glaze and candy. Many families bake pepperkaker/pepparkakor/brunkager as a tradition. In Switzerland, a gingerbread confection known as "biber" is typically a two-centimeter thick rectangular gingerbread cake with a marzipan filling. Biber are famously from the cantons of Appenzell or St. Gallen and respective biber are artfully adorned with images of the Appenzell bear or the St. Gallen cathedral by engraving or icing. In Russia, a gingerbread maker was first mentioned in Kazan cadastres in 1568.[8] Gingerbread confections are called pryaniki (sg. pryanik), derived from the old Russian word for 'pepper'. Historically three main centers of gingerbread production have developed in the cities of Vyazma, Gorodets, and Tula. Gingerbreads from Tver, Saint Petersburg and Moscow were also well-known in the Russian Empire. A classic Russian gingerbread is made with rye flour, honey, sugar, butter, eggs and various spices; it has an embossed ornament and/or text on the front side with royal icing.[9] A Russian gingerbread can also be shaped in various forms and stuffed with varenje and other sweet fillings. In Poland, gingerbreads are known as pierniki (singular, piernik). The most famous are called Toruń gingerbread (piernik toruński), a traditional Polish gingerbread that has been produced since the Middle Ages in the city of Toruń. It was a favorite delicacy of Chopin when he visited his godfather,Fryderyk Florian Skarbek, in Toruń during a school vacation.

Gingerbread was brought to Europe in 992 by the Armenian monk Gregory of Nicopolis (Gregory Makar) (GrĂŠgoire de Nicopolis). He left Nicopolis Pompeii, to live in Bondaroy (France), near the town of Pithiviers. He stayed there for seven years, and taught gingerbread baking to French Christians. He died in 999.[2][3] During the 13th century, gingerbread was brought to Sweden by German immigrants. In 15th century Germany, a gingerbread guild controlled production.[4] Early references from the Vadstena Abbey show how the Swedishnuns were baking gingerbread to ease indigestion in 1444.[5] It was the custom to bake white biscuits and paint them as window decorations. The first documented trade of gingerbread biscuits dates to the 17th century,[citation needed] where they were sold in monasteries, pharmacies, and town square farmers' markets. In Medieval England gingerbread was thought to have medicinal properties.[6] One hundred years later, the town of Market Drayton in Shropshire, UK became known for its gingerbread, as is proudly displayed on their town's welcome sign. The first recorded mention of gingerbread being baked in the town dates to 1793, although it was probably made earlier, as ginger had been stocked in high street businesses since the 1640s. Gingerbread became widely available in the 18th century.

Anne Graham Lotz Gives Prophetic Warning and Calls Christians to Pray Veronica Neffinger | Editor, ChristianHeadlines.com | Tuesday, January 05, 2016

Anne Graham Lotz has issued a prophetic warning for the new year, and stated that Christians must turn to God and repent. In a special for Charisma News, Lotz, the daughter of famed evangelist Billy Graham, writes that she believes “our national and global situation will get worse.” Graham then quotes Isaiah 60:1-2 which states ‘, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For the darkness shall cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; but the Lord shall rise upon you, and His glory shall be seen upon you.‘ Although the enemy is advancing, Graham says, and America and the world are practicing evil and are in darkness, there is hope. “I have been repeatedly warned in my spirit that the enemy is advancing. It's something that I know. And I feel compelled, like Jehoshaphat, to lead God's people also in a desperate prayer for help before we plunge past the point of no return into the abyss of God's judgment,” said Lotz. Graham quoted from 2 Chronicles 20:15, 17 which states: 'Do not fear, nor be dismayed because of this great army, for the battle is not yours, but God's. ...It will not be necessary for you to fight in this conflict. Take your positions, stand, and observe the deliverance of the Lord for you, O Judah and Jerusalem.' Do not fear or be filled with terror. ... (T)he Lord will be with you.’ Graham concludes that in light of world events and the evil of the world, Christians are to pray and to seek God.What is the position we are to take up? I believe it's a position on our knees as we humble ourselves, seek God's face, repent of our sin and intercede for our nation. Susan L. Taylor: “I Was Dying On The Inside” Jan 24, 2016 By Aria Ellise

Susan L. Taylor, the beautiful, flawless face of Essence Magazine for 25 years was synonymous with beauty, intelligence, grace and even as some may describe now, “black girl magic” before the term was ever thought of. Susan was the editorial director of Essence for six years, and before that was editor-in-chief for 19 years. In her monthly column, “In the Spirit,” she used the platform to speak to millions of black women on a personal level. And her message to all was simple: “Love yourself.”But little did the general public know that the now 70-year-old Taylor’s journey success and self-love, was filled with her own personal struggle: a deep-rooted depression that crippled her as a child and continued into adulthood, even while being the face of Essence.

“My sadness and depression came out of giving myself to my career before I would give myself to myself,” says Taylor. “Everything for Essence; nothing for me.”

“I began spiraling downward, downward, downward and further and further into a depression that I couldn’t pull myself out of,” says the former executive. “I felt like everything coming out of my mouth was incorrect. I’m out there speaking in front of thousands of people with a smile pasted on my facebut dying on the inside.” MUST READ: It Just Looks Like We’re Not Hurting – 20 Signs Of Depression Depression affects between 17-20 million Americans a year. Data from a study published by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) found that women (4 percent vs. 2.7 percent of men) and African-Americans (4 percent) are significantly more likely to report major depression than whites (3.1 percent). But the CDC also finds that just 7.6 percent of African-Americans sought treatment for depression compared to 13.6 percent of the general population in 2011. Fear, embarrassment and the stigma in the Black community against counseling (outside of the church, that is) keep many of us who actually need professional services from seeking them.Writer and former colleague of Taylor’s, Linda Villanova sums it up best:Success can come with a price. We’re the first to arrive and the last to leave as we grind through 10-hour work days. We’re the ones everybody relies on—first at work, then after hours during the second shift of home and family time. We work ourselves almost literally “to death” especially now during this

Martin Luther King had complicated legacy on gun

Martin Luther King Jr. was surrounded by guns, even though he didn't like them. At times, armed foot soldiers protected the Baptist preacher and his family. As he led protests across the rural South, King often stood in proximity of guns — wielded by local police, state troopers or hostile people in the crowds. On April 4, 1968, King became one of America's most famous victims of gun violence. Just as guns were a complicated issue for King in his lifetime, they loom large over the 30th anniversary of the holiday honoring his birthday. Urban violence, mass shootings and killings of unarmed black males by police have caused alarm, touched off protests and revived the nation's conversation about gun control. President Barack Obama recently took executive action to tighten federal gun restrictions, invoking King as he urged citizens to press for change.

"There is nothing in the history that suggests that Martin Luther King felt that guns weren't useful for self-defense," said Adam Winkler, UCLA law professor and author of the book "Gunfight: The Battle Over the Right to Bear Arms in America." ''Clearly, guns were used protect (King) ... (He) could not rely on the government." Inside the civil rights movement, some activists saw guns as a necessary means of self-defense. As a Southerner, King understood that strong culture of gun possession, even though he came to reject it, said Charles E. Cobb, Jr., a former field secretary for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and author of the book, "This Nonviolent Stuff'll Get You Killed: How Guns Made the Civil Rights Movement Possible." "If you went to King's house in 1955 or 1956, there were guns," Cobb said in an interview. "When they bombed his house in 1956, his first instinct was to apply for a gun permit. He moves toward nonviolence slowly. By the 1960s, he abandoned the idea of weapons for self-defense." Some blacks, Cobb recalled, jokingly referring to their personal weapons as "nonviolent pistols." "They would say, even as they were cleaning their rifles, how glad they were to be part of the movement," Cobb said. "They knew King wasn't going to be carrying a weapon, so people's attitude was, 'We're not going to let the white people kill him.'" The Rev. Jesse Jackson, a King aide who was at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, when King was shot and killed, said King was mindful of the role of guns. "Dr. King's point was that the protection of one's home is self-evident, but he was quick to add that you're more likely to shoot a relative or commit suicide (with a gun)," Jackson said. "He refused to keep a gun in his house for that reason."

After his home was bombed, King got rid of his gun and eschewed weapons, said King lieutenant Andrew Young. Before joining King, Young owned a shotgun and a handgun. The movement did not condemn defensive violence, Young explained; King simply did not engage in it. "He decided he was not going to have a gun, and he didn't want anybody with guns around him," Young said. In his book, Winkler writes that after the 1956 bombing, which occurred during the Montgomery Bus Boycott, King applied for a concealed carry permit. He was denied by a county sheriff. That incident has led some to embrace King as a supporter of the Second Amendment. In 2014, commentator Colion Noir posted a video on NRANews.com citing King's gun permit application as proof that he was not opposed to guns. "Dr. King was a nonviolent man, but even he understood the realities of self-defense and protecting his home and his family in the face of life-threatening violence," said Noir. After President John Kennedy was killed in 1963, Young recalled King telling him: "Guns are going to be the death of this country.""He said, Kennedy had Secret Service around him with guns and they couldn't protect him, which says guns can't protect you," Young said. According to a compilation of King's writings and speeches by Stanford University historian Clayborne Carson, King said in November 1963 that Kennedy's assassination could be blamed in part on Americans' casual attitudes about gun violence. King said: "By our readiness to allow arms to be purchased at will and fired at whim, by allowing our movie and television screens to teach our children that the hero is one who masters the art of shooting and the technique of killing, by allowing all these developments, we have created an atmosphere in which violence and hatred have become popular pastimes." King's nonviolent mentality stood in stark contrast to those armed, hatefilled whites who showed up peaceful protests, and the more radical black groups that emerged later, said King biographer Taylor Branch. "Even after black power made guns kind of popular in the radical movement, King said he would never carry a gun," Branch said. "He rejected all forms of violence and got stronger on it as he went along." Cobb, however, said many of King's followers "felt their duty was to protect the movement, grab a rifle" and drive away threats. "They didn't see any contradiction between saying they were part of the nonviolent movement and keeping their weapons clean and ready," Cobb said.

MARK 4: 10-23 AND 26-32 SOME PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND GOD'S TRUTH BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT READY FOR IT. GOD REVEALS TRUTH TO PEOPLE WHO WILL ACT ON IT AND MAKE IT EVIDENT IN THEIR LIVES. (2) PRAY AND BELIEVE THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL OPEN THEIR MINDS AND HEARTS TO RECEIVE THE TRUTH AND ACT ON IT. North Carolina's Favorite Son: Billy Graham and His Remarkable Journey of Faith Raleigh, N.C. — Billy Graham has preached to more people in live audiences than anyone else in history — nearly 215 million people in more than 185 countries and territories. He has reached hundreds of millions more through television, video, film and webcasts. Although Graham’s work took him around the world, he loved returning to North Carolina, which has been his home most of his life. On Friday, Nov. 6 — the day before Graham’s 97th birthday — the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh opened an exhibit that explores his extraordinary life and a ministry that spanned seven decades. His story is featured in North Carolina’s Favorite Son: Billy Graham and His Remarkable Journey of Faith. The free exhibit, on view through July 10, 2016, is privately funded, developed and produced by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. The exhibit title draws from the 2013 resolution passed by the N.C. General Assembly honoring the life of Graham’s wife, Ruth Bell Graham, and naming Billy Graham “North Carolina’s Favorite Son.” The worldwide significance of Graham has been recognized by honors such as the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. In 2014 the North Carolinian made an unparalleled 58th appearance in the top 10 of the Gallup organization’s list of most admired men and women in the world. “Billy Graham, a native son of North Carolina, is known for his positive impact in our state and around the world,” said Ken Howard, Director of the N.C. Museum of History. “The museum is proud to present his life story in this major exhibition in partnership with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.”

In the 5,000-square-foot exhibit, discover how a Charlotte dairy farmer’s son became a worldwide ambassador of the Gospel. Museum visitors can retrace Graham’s steps through personal memorabilia, interactive displays, and compelling multimedia that help bring his story to life. In addition to Graham’s work, North Carolina’s Favorite Son also provides glimpses into his family life, his leadership and influence in the Cold War and in the battle against segregation, and more.

 “My father was born, raised and lived in this state and he’s proud to be North Carolinian,” said Franklin Graham, President and CEO of both the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse. “He is the son of a dairyman that God took and used around the world to touch so many lives. He gives God the glory for everything that was accomplished through his life, and that’s what you’ll see in this exhibit."
 Highlights of North Carolina’s Favorite Son include: ● Graham’s early life and ministry, along with fun facts about his favorite things in North Carolina;

 ● A look at each of Graham’s 12 North Carolina crusades and other evangelistic outreaches, such as Los Angeles, 1949; London, 1954; New York City, 1957; and South Africa, 1973; and ● Memorabilia, including these never-before-exhibited items:
 - the American flag flown over the U.S. Capitol Building in honor of Ruth and Billy Graham’s 50th wedding anniversary;
 - the miniature dictation machine Graham used in sermon preparation;
 - a brick from Harringay Arena, site of the 1954 London Crusade; and
 - the tuxedo Graham wore when he was knighted at the British Embassy in 2001.
 Among the captivating photographs in North Carolina’s Favorite Son are large murals depicting the scope of attendance at crusades held around the world. Other images range from Billy and Ruth Graham’s family life at their home in the Blue Ridge mountains to meetings with American presidents and world leaders. Video clips and audio recordings of Graham further enhance the exhibit.
 Come learn about this notable Tar Heel and the legacy of his work that continues today through the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, based in Charlotte. Be sure to visit the state’s capital city to see North Carolina’s Favorite Son.

Prayer and fasting: 'Heavenly weapons that when used together could lead us to spiritual breakthrough' For people who want to achieve certain "breakthroughs" in their personal lives concerning family matters, marriages, ministries, and businesses, it might be a good idea to go on a prayer and fasting commitment. "Both prayer and fasting are supernatural weapons of spiritual warfare, and when used together, they cause us to become lethal to the enemy's plans formed against us," writes healing evangelist Becky Dvorak in an article for Charisma News. In fact, the practice of fasting has been mentioned at least 80 times throughout the Bible, and 30 of these verses are found in the New Testament. Unfortunately, Dvorak says that most Christians do not use these powerful weapons. She cites the Bible verse Matthew 26:41 as the reason why: "The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." "It takes obedience and discipline to activate the power of prayer and fasting," she says. "Prayer and fasting are spiritual disciplines. Just as godly parents train and discipline their children in the ways of the Lord, so too, our heavenly Father loves us and knows what we have need of." Dvorak says that God understands what is best for His people so they need to activate their "spiritual weapons" and practice obedience and discipline. According to her, there are several spiritual benefits associated with prayer and fasting. These are protection from one's enemies, victory over temptations, deliverance from evil spirits, repentance and revival, restoration, and release into ministry. As for the physical benefits, fasting detoxifies one's body from impurities, resets hormones, and lowers weight, cholesterol levels, and even high blood pressure. "Prayer and fasting have both physical and spiritual benefits for us, but even more importantly, they are heavenly weapons that when used together cause spiritual breakthrough for us," says Dvorak.

At Liberty University, Carson frames his candidacy as spiritual battle When Ben Carson took the stage Wednesday morning at Liberty University’s Vine Center, he claimed a role familiar to many of the conservative Christians in his audience — that of a believer persecuted for his faith. And on this Veterans Day, the GOP presidential frontrunner placed what he sees as a battle for the nation’s soul and values in the context of past military conflicts fought to protect the United States’ freedoms. Praising the Allied soldiers who took part in the Normandy invasion, Carson asked rhetorically why they would do such a thing. “Not for themselves,” he answered, “but for you and me, so that we could be free.” He then shifted from 1944 France to 2015 America: “What are we willing to do for those who come behind us?” Brandon Ambrosino for Yahoo News November 11, 2015

“When you look at our founding document,” Carson told the students, faculty and staff gathered for Liberty’s required weekly convocation, “it talks about certain inalienable rights given to us by our creator – also known as God.” As the crowd applauded, he continued. “And we have so many people now who are trying to push God out of our lives.” There’s no reason to be afraid, he said, quoting from the Book of Proverbs. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him and he will direct your path.” After the applause quieted, Carson said he held tight to that scripture in times of adversity. “I cling to it now when so many in the media want to bring me down because I represent something that they can’t stand.” Carson has indeed come under questioning over discrepancies in his life story, as well as some unusual theories about the Holocaust and ancient Egypt. His response to criticism is a neat little rhetorical move often favored by politicians under scrutiny: “They hate me because I’m ‘x’” – where ‘x’ equals the figure’s audience and other supporters. The implication is that by defending Carson, conservative Christians defend themselves and their faith itself. The promise of Carson’s favorite verse is similarly straightforward: Trust God, and He will direct every step of your life. Including, Carson believes, a presidential bid.

“When I got a call to be the keynote speaker at the National Prayer Breakfast for 2013, I said, ‘Lord, what are you up to?’” Carson said on Wednesday. He had already spoken at the event in 1997 and wasn’t aware that anyone had been given the honor twice. When Carson found out that the only other exception was Billy Graham, he “knew God was up to something.” “What does the Lord want me to say?” he recalled asking himself, and right up until the eve of the breakfast, he had no idea. But when he awoke that morning, Carson said, it was immediately clear. His resulting speech was extremely critical of Barack Obama’s policies, including health-care reform, and it led conservatives to “clamber” for him to run for president. So he prayed again. “And I said, ‘Lord, this was not on my bucket list, but if you truly want me to do this, all the pundits say it’s impossible, but nothing is impossible for you. If you open the doors, I will walk through them.” “And he began opening doors.” Carson isn’t the first politician to frame his aspirations in terms of a divine mandate. George Bush once reportedly referred to his belief that God speaks through him — the White House disputed the report, but it would not be unusual for an evangelical to pray that God would speak through him – and he was also quoted as saying he was “driven with a mission from God.” CONTINUE ON ..............PAGE 57

White evangelicals remain an important bloc for presidential hopefuls — Bush won nearly four out of five of their votes in 2004 — which might explain why Carson is appealing to them with a divine mandate: God told him to run. And he’s framing it in culture-war terms that they understand. There is a war going on, and it’s time for responsible, concerned American citizens to intervene, motivated by their desire to leave a legacy of freedom to future generations. They can do this, Carson suggests, by voting for him. After all, he trusted God, and God directed his steps — steps that might lead to the White House. Last week, the Guardian offered readers an inside look at Carson’s home with a spread of photos that included one of a telling portrait: Ben Carson, contentedly smiling in his white doctor’s coat, sitting literally at the right hand of Jesus, a biblical place of distinction. “I think the one thing all of us love and appreciate about you, sir,” David Nasser, Liberty University’s vice president of spiritual development, told Carson at the end of his speech, “is really your humility. And the way that you carry yourself as a believer.”

One of the Questions in particular was asked by the Students of the University of Dr. Ben Carson was interesting Brandon Ambrosino:The moral ground in this country has been shifting dramatically in the last fe years, none more obvious than issues like marriage. As a man of faith yourself, how would you govern in a society where traditional vales, like marriage, seem to be the minority view? Ben Carson: The 1st Amendment is incredibly important. It talks about Freedom of Religion. Not Freedom from Religion, but Freedom of Religion. And we have got to encourage all the Branches of the Government to work affectively with Checks and Balances. What we’ve seen recently is the Legislative Branch which is the Branch that Represents We The People. Has more or less acting like the Peanut Gallery. Which means that the Executive Branch and the Judicial Branch are over stepping their boundaries. And we’re gonna have to have a President whose willing to work with the Legislative Branch to put things back in order again specifically we need Legislation to protect the Religious Freedoms of people who believe that marriage is between one man and one woman. Brandon Ambrosino: You have proposed the idea of a Flat Tax, even liking it to a tithing as it refers to a proportional giving. Could you elaborate a little bit more about the Flat Tax Reform? Dr. Ben Carson: The reason I liken it to Tithing is that I believe that God is the fairest individual that there is and if He thought that it was fair it must be pretty fair. Basically you make ten billion dollars you pay a billion.

you make ten dollars you pay one. You get the same rights and privileges pretty hard to be more fair than that, and you’re gonna get rid of all the deductions and all the loop holes and everybody is in proportional. My proposal takes in consideration poverty and at the poverty level you get a rebate, but we don’t change the system. Because the minute you change the system and allow just one crack at it everybody starts moving toward that crack and then pretty soon you have another and then you wind up having a 75 thousand paid tax code like we have right now. That’s what we don’t want. But some people say that it’s not fair because, the guy who put in a billion and he still got nine billion left. We need to take more of his money. Well that’s called Socialism and that just doesn’t work. The guy who put in one dollar he only had ten and some people say that’s not fair because he can’t afford to put in a dollar of course he can afford to put in a dollar. He can afford to drive on public roads and send his kids to public school and I can tell you having come from that bottom percentile, I can tell that people down there also have pride and they want to carry their own weight. They don’t want somebody petting them on the head saying that. Then the people say well the mortgage deduction I’ll lose my house. No they won’t because they will have so much money in their pocket’s they will be easily able to pay their mortgage and then some will say there will be no more charitable deductions all the churches will dry up. Well they don’t realize that there were lots of churches in America before 1913 when the Federal Income Tax went in place. As people in America have more money in their pocket they will actually put more money in the plate when the tithe plate comes by. Brandon Ambroshino: You had stated that you had asked God to give you wisdom and to that effect, what advice could you give to the college students to day that you wish that someone could have told you? Dr. Ben Carson: My advice would be Proverbs 3: 5 and 6. It says Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding and all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.

I have clung to that through all kinds of adversities in my life, I cling to it now. When so many in the media want to bring me down because I represent something that they can’t stand. But the fact of the matter is. In Romans Chapter 8 it says if God be for you who could be against you. You don’t have to worry.

Erin Brockovich on the Flint water crisis By Alex Bregman Consumer advocate and environmental activist Erin Brockovich joined Yahoo News and Finance Anchor Bianna Golodryga on “Yahoo News Live” to discuss the ongoing water crisis in Flint, Mich. She discussed the causes of the crisis, the accountability of state officials and how this is a national problem. Brockovich explained the cause of Flint’s crisis and why the city switched from Lake Huron to the Flint River. She told Golodryga, “Because the city was in bankruptcy, there was an appointed emergency city water manager who decided to save a buck and the governor agreed. They made the switch, added the chloramines that caused all this lead to leach out, and nobody disclosed anything to the residents.” She said that state officials did not know how to properly get water to Flint. “I don’t think they necessarily knew what they were doing, which can be very scary. You know water quality is chemistry. You need to know what you’re doing and you need be able to say, you know, this is not in my sphere or scope of understanding and rely on somebody to do that. That’s why I really have to look at this emergency water manager that was in place, because we actually provided them a report and a protocol on what to do to avoid this and how to treat the water.” She continued, “It’s frightening to think that we step in as an agency and we don’t know what we’re doing with water quality, and the outcome would be the risk and to jeopardize so many people.”

CONTINUE..................

Brockovich had already called on Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder to resign. On “Yahoo News Live” she went further to suggest criminal charges should be considered: “They created this mess and they can’t continue to hide behind it. This is where the residents have every right, and I stand with the residents, to be absolutely furious. This lack of transparency, this deception that cost them their health, their children’s health, potentially for life, is inexcusable. We should be looking at criminal charges. This is why they want [Snyder] to step down. As long as he’s going to continue to be in office, you’ve got to stop hiding behind the story.” She continued, “You can’t change what he’s done, but begin to correct it moving forward so they have a safer, broader solution. This isn’t going to go away overnight.”On her reasoning behind removing the governor now, Brockovich told Golodryga, “It has some form of justice for them. It’s very hard. There’s such a breach of trust now with their leader to leave him in place to make any further decisions for them would be very difficult. It feels very difficult for them to accept. I think at some level it’s just the honorable thing to do.” On the health risks of the lead levels in Flint water, “It’s very hard to rid it from the body, so this is something that could affect these children for the rest of their lives.”

Brockovich said that this problem goes well beyond Flint. “It’s a national problem, and Flint is a model city for us to look at. I couldn’t be more proud of this community for how they’ve come forward and used their voice, but it’s the tip of the iceberg to something that is going to be a national problem.” Brockovich also discussed 2016 presidential politics. She has endorsed Democratic candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders’ position on calling for Governor Snyder’s resignation, but she said that this issue should not be political: “Bernie is certainly willing to have the conversation and that I appreciate. It’s hard for me to make a position on any of the candidates on the environment because I don’t know if I’m overly thrilled with any of them. I need to work with everyone. We can’t politicize water.” She continued, “It shouldn’t be independent, Republican or Democrat. This is everybody’s issue. This is what sustains our life.”

Five planets aligned for the next few days Up early everyday? if so, head outside over the next month for a planetary treat. Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Mars and Jupiter will all be lined up in the morning sky, stretching from east to west. As reported by USA Today, Jupiter is the highest in the sky, lying in the southwest. It rises first in the evening sky, shortly after 10 p.m. Mars will have risen after 2 a.m., followed by Saturn and Venus a couple of hours later.

You won’t need a telescope, as all the planets will be visible with the naked eye. But EarthSky.org recommends using binoculars to see them more clearly. This is the first time these planets have been aligned since 2005. And even better is that you will be able to catch all five of these night sky jewels all the way until Feb. 20. You can check if the sky will be cloudy or clear over the next few days on this National Weather Service forecast page. At the left under forecast element, click on “Sky Cover” and hit play (blue means clear skies and gray means cloudy skies.) Though it’s been 10 years since the last time these planets were aligned, the next alignment isn’t so far off: all five will once again meet in the night sky from Aug. 13 to 19 (but they won’t be lined up). Five Planets Aligned: Rare Phenomenon To Occur For The First Time In 10 Years – For the first time in 10 years, the brightest planets visible to us in our solar system will be in alignment, offering a rare image, according to The Age.

The best view of the alignment will be available from 5.30am to 5.40am (Australian Eastern Daylight Time) starting January 20, and should follow a straight line from Mercury on the horizon to brightly shining Jupiter up top. The line of planets will appear between the horizon and the moon. Because of Mercury's closeness to the horizon, stargazers should find the flattest plane they can to maximise their chances of viewing the alignment, and of course a dark sky away from the city will also help.
