COLLEGE OF PROFESSIONAL AND CONTINUING STUDIES Martha L. Banz, Ph.D., Dean The College of Professional and Continuing Studies, formerly known as the College of Liberal Studies, was established in 1960. The college is best characterized by the diverse student populations it serves, as well as the specialized programming it offers. Primarily focusing on the higher education needs of place-bound working adults, military-connected personnel, and those seeking specialized study in selected professional areas, PACS offers a variety of degrees at both graduate and undergraduate levels, including several programs offered collaboratively with other OU colleges. In all its programming, the college emphasizes a holistic approach to learning, focuses on the immediate application of learning to one’s life and work, promotes lifelong learning opportunities, and encourages the work of active citizenship. PACS enrolls nearly 4,000 degree-seeking students annually, and serves several thousand additional enrollees through its short courses, training programs, and lifelong learning opportunities. Building upon its founding purpose, the college continues to prepare its graduates and participants for leadership roles in today’s most critical fields. To effectively serve its diverse student population, the college offers courses online, onsite, and in hybrid formats that combine classroom sessions with online study. PACS in North America and Europe delivers graduate degrees at nearly 30 military sites worldwide, and the college’s top-ranked Aviation program trains professional pilots, air traffic controllers, and aviation managers for the rapidly growing aerospace industry.
