JEANNINE RAINBOLT COLLEGE OF EDUCATION Stacy Reeder, Ph.D., Dean In the act establishing the University of Oklahoma, approved by the first legislature of the Territory of Oklahoma, December 19, 1890, one of the purposes stated was for the university to provide the means of acquiring a thorough knowledge of the theory and art of teaching. This mandate led to the establishment of the School of Teaching, which by 1929 had evolved into the College of Education. The college is a professional school whose mission includes the preparation of qualified personnel for the public schools, research to improve education, and the provision of educational services to the public.
