Melanie Meriney enjoyed the rewards of a successful release called Voodoo Doll. It is her determination that helped her experience success with her release Voodoo Doll. In fact, it has been the same determination and drive that increased her popularity with her earlier release called “Lifeboat”. We asked Melanie Meriney what helped her overcome the challenges of working within the music industry. She said “It has been especially difficult, in light of the challenges covid threw at the industry, specifically the live performance aspect. There are people who swear by the mantra of having no plan B because it makes them work that much harder for plan A. I don’t personally subscribe to that. My priorities are always music. But I have multiple plan Bs that help me support and fund my plan A. When I meet roadblocks that are beyond my control, I throw myself into my secondary plans to help me push through that period”. We look forward to hearing more from Melanie and what she is able to accomplish come 2022. We will keep you informed. (Source Photo: Melanie Meriney)

Chief Editor of CMV Music News Interview expectations. What can I anticipate?

“The questions seem fair, but

I am not quite comfortable with answering them.”

Have you ever been asked to do an interview? Most likely you were excited about it. Though depending upon how many interviews you have done, it may seem like work. It has been my experience that most artists love to be interviewed. It is an opportunity to promote your name, your music, and accomplishments. An interview allows you to connect with your fans. An interview is a rich resource.

- Anonymous

Time for the interview, what next? Unfortunately, some artists do not prepare themselves for an interview. The lack of mental preparation often leads to an uncomfortable situation. There is a misunderstanding regarding interviews. They can be confusing, even intimidating at times. Here is an opportunity to define your character. Interviews are designed to enable you to prove yourself. What is the depth of your real-world experience and knowledge? What is your level of intelligence? Yes, interviewing can be a challenge. However, here is your chance to rise above your “self esteem” and take on character building questions. Interviewing with CMV Music Network. Interviewing with CMV Music Network is not rocket science. Neither do we ask questions, that would offend. We ask for honest, and transparency. We do not imply or suggest wrong motives. CMV Music Network would never present nor publish false or misleading information. Again, questions can cast you in a brilliant light, or disqualify you from future interviews with CMV Music Network. Ask questions, be open and honest. This contributes to a successful interview for both parties.

Featured Artist For the Month of

DECEMBER Jacklyn Kenyon is in a class of her own. This artist is unbelievable and she knows it. “Listen” there is nothing wrong, to admit that you are great at what you do. In many ways, in can be healthy. When it comes to music enthusiasts, there is always a dilemma. Who is the best singer, or songwriter of our modern times? Undoubtedly, once in a lifetime there will be an artist that compels you to question everything you know about talent. Just a few moments ago, I was raving about an artist from the music city. Now, I am left with the words “I am not worthy”. These words only come to mind with a very limited amount of musicians. Jaclyn Kenyon is one of them. She has everything that will distract you as a fan. Jaclyn Kenyon has stage presence. She can sing, as if music was her own means of communication. The magic of her lyrics speaks to each of us. There are a couple of artists that I truly feel this way about. I have interviewed and even represented some of the best artists. I try not to make a distinction between men and women, or race when it comes to music. In my humble opinion, there is no such thing as color, nationality or gender. There are just “artists” and “musicians”. However, I do not cater to the mentality that all things are equal. You are either talented, or you’re not. You either have it, or you don’t.

INTERVIEW WITH OUR FEATURED ARTIST FOR THE MONTH OF DECEMBER

JACLYON KENYON

My friends, Jacklyn Kenyon is in a class of her own. This artist is unbelievable and she knows it. “Listen” there is nothing wrong, to admit that you are great at what you do. In many ways, in can be healthy. When it comes to music enthusiasts, there is always a dilemma. Who is the best singer, or songwriter of our modern times? There a handful of artists that come to mind. Yes, Jaclyn Kenyon is one of them. Her country vibes are impeccable. Jaclyn Kenyon has “real control” over her lyrics.

CMV: Our objective today, is just to get to know more about Jaclyn Kenyon. Most of our interviews are centered around a topic that affects people in the music industry. However, since I am quite a fan of yours, I like to make it about your achievements. The word inspires, or inspiration, often comes up in our interviews. So, “We” really want to know what inspires you to perform and sing like you do? Jaclyn: Well, hello! First of all, that

was such a sweet introduction and I am so thankful you are interviewing me today. I really love this question. I grew up being inspired by Michael Jackson and Shania Twain. I loved that they were both doing something so different in the music industry and they were such powerful artists. They were such powerful artists, not only through their lyrics and voice, but through their stage presence. They also understood the importance of connecting with their audience, and that made me admire them the most.

What inspires me to perform and sing is truly connecting with people. Not just surface level connection but a connection that connects them to me to their hearts through my own music. I feel like we can understand one another that way. I love people, I love writing music that makes someone connect it to their story and their emotions. What makes me feel the most satisfied at the end of the day is when someone tells me that my song spoke to them, or helped them to get through something.

CMV: It would be safe to say, that at some point in the life a child, they start to identify with music that really makes a huge impact on them. At what age, can you say that music really started having an influence in your life? Jaclyn: I was really young when I first discovered music. I was three years of age. My dad had a piano in our home and I would sit on it all the time and list to him play. I was always interested in singing along and would hum songs with him. When I got a little bit older, around eight, I started to write my first song. I wrote about my friends or how I felt that day. I carried a little not book around everywhere and would just hit random keys on the piano to make words fit. My dad taught me a couple of basic piano chords, and once I started to learn those, I was writing songs all the time. I learned very quickly how music would be my new outlet. As I grew up and went through so many changes and experiences, I would just keep writing my heart down and I found so much understanding in myself through that. CMV: I have watched live performances by artists on numerous occasions, where they just don’t look like they want to be there. Like they have something better to do. It is annoying, and I believe the audience is aware of the negative vibes from that performer. How important is it to you, that you avoid giving off bad vibes during a performance? Jaclyn: Personally, I don’t get it. I think there’s a real danger in getting to a place in your life where something is comfortable. It takes away the gratitude & excitement and that’s a scary place to be in. I hope I never get to that point and if I do, please get me some help, because something is seriously wrong ha ha.

The Music Review. Needless to mention, it has been a very competitive year for artists in all genres. Music release via album or EP have taken a beaten at times. Consumers want to hear something that is unique. They want to make sure their money for downloaded music is well spent. While we value music of and the effort that goes into creating music, we also have to be honest. Some artists, were not heavily favored in our reviews. While others proved why they are all about quality, and not just popularity. So, let’s consider some of the artists and releases that have been reviewed by CMV Music Network this year. Murray – The Artist The first artist that we reviewed goes by the name Murray.

I recall his comments to me as he said, “I am not worried about the review, I know the song will hold up”. After reading his email, I was kind of excited to review it. I enjoy hearing confidence from an artist. It means they really put forth much effort in the song. However, this is not what we heard. I am not quite sure what it was. Except it wasn’t good. I wrote up the review, ad I normally would. The song did have merit. Before I get into the details of each review, I listen for artist comparison. For instance, I believe that Murray has a similar sound to Blink 182 and 21 Pilots. This is huge compliment. These are excellent bands. As I got into the details, I found there were too many cheap thrills. Murray spent to much time on the introduction of the song. If I was your average fan, he would have lost me 15 seconds into the song. I just think that this songs needs a little bit more work in the studio. Murray Young has potential. No review should make Murray Young give up on his hope of creating great music. It just takes a bit more time, and focus. Let’s continue ……..

The added voice cuts towards the end of the song were unnecessary. Yes, they were somewhat humorous, but unnecessary. Die Young would describe the ending of the song. The chorus should have continued to the end. The song seemed to end abruptly. I would like to have heard the song, after some more studio edits. If the writer of Die Young is insistent on having explicit lyrics, then they should be used sparingly, and at the right time. There is a larger crowed that will embrace “Die Young”. It just needs some fine tuning, but not with “auto tune”.

Everyone knows Bri Bagwell Integration a streaming Platform has been a Vital source of revenue. How has it contributed to the Success of Bri Bagwell.

“Getting onto specific playlists is a very big deal, and I hire a team to help me with that. There are apparently streaming promoters that will pitch your songs to specific playlists”

- Bri Bagwell

Streaming audio and video has become huge integration for all aspects of the entertainment sector.

(Source Photo: Bri Bagwell)

The value of streaming platforms. For movie, and T.V. shows cable is no longer as dominant as in previous years. Many turn to streaming applications for movies and T.V. shows. It has become apparent that streaming has held the entertainment sector together. Per Warner Music Group “for the fiscal year, recorded music streaming revenue increased 24% year on year to $2.404 billion. In the fourth quarter, streaming revenue was up 22% to $639 million”. Like the Japanese money tree, the music industry has deep roots, and

With the power, stability and revenue, the music industry always comes out strong. However, it has to “intertwine” with other components to guarantee its success. We have acknowledged that streaming is a key element for the success of the music industry. Does that mean that the revenue trickles downward, or shared amongst those that make streaming possible? We have posed some interesting questions. This is a topic worth discussing with one of the most talented and brilliant mind of the music industry. That is country artist and performer Bri Bagwell.

services added to her success?

Interview with Country Music Artist Bri Bagwell. There are beautiful tree’s such as the “Japanese money tree that “grow intertwined”. It’s really a “survival strategy”. Gravity pulls tree branches downward and it’s “branch growth” is often affected by the force of wind. In order to “remain healthy” tree’s that intertwine”, rely on each other to gather light, to stay stable in the wind, and to succeed against “nearby competitors”. So when they grow crookedly, or intertwined, that's part of a tree's overall survival strategy. What does a Japanese money tree have to do with the music industry? I was about to say “simple”. (Source Photo: Bri Bagwell)

However, there is nothing about the music industry that is simple. Often times it can be quite difficult. Especially during the last two years. The music industry has been affected by unordinary challenges. However, it still finds a way to survive. As if there was some unique strategy behind it. Regardless of the difficulties in the music industry it continues to remain healthy. What has enabled this to happen? Could we conclude that the music industry has “intertwined” with other components to ensure its longevity? These answers were covered on the previous page. At this point, we want to highlight how Bri Bagwell has implemented it in her music career. All this “money tree” talk sure makes me wish that money did, in fact, grow on trees. Wouldn’t that solve a lot of problems? Ha. - Bri Bagwell. The first thing that comes to mind is the substantial live music market in Texas and the surrounding regions. We become almost a bit numb to the profound reality that we have venues all over the state (and beyond) that consistently hire live bands in our genre. I’ve been able to sustain a career thanks to the evergrowing popularity of Texas country music and being able to tour nonstop throughout the year. It’s hard to imagine a life where I’m not able to supplement my writing and creating, with consistent income and application via live performances every week. When I look at streaming, I try to have a bigger picture perspective: people on streaming services have an opportunity to discover my music through playlists and other artist’s radio stations. I may be gaining fans that will eventually (and hopefully) buy tickets and merchandise at a live show down the road or online. Hopefully, the pay is made up in new fans and subscribers. I am also glad that my fans have all of my music at their fingertips.

Important Lessons Learned I think it’s a hard but important lessons, that nobody is going to work harder for your success than you. At the end of the day, while it would be nice to be able to rely on others and delegate certain responsibilities, you can only truly trust yourself and your own work ethic. I have the perspective now that nobody is going to wave a magic wand and make all my dreams come true. My goal is to create an image and a product that people resonate with and are inspired to follow. If that inspires industry to want to be a part of the success, then that’s cool. But I’m relying on myself and my own drive to get there. - MELANIE MERINEY

Terry Douglas Interview Overcoming challenges to perform at a high level. There isn’t one person musician or not that hasn’t been affected by the challenges that the pandemic has inflicted upon many. Lives have been lost, jobs have been lost, and families have been torn apart. It seems that the pandemic has shaken us to our very core. We can’t help to think what is next? How are we going to overcome the challenges that each day brings? “We just keep plugging away. We are always working on new material, finding new opportunities to work on our shows and our songs”. – Terry Douglas

Many of us, have had these types of questions and have found it difficult to manage the fatique that we have encountered over these last few years. I have often wondered how it has impacted those within the music industry. Especially artists that make their living by performing before large crowds. Social distancing and precautionary measures is a must. Especially if you are going to continue in the entertainment industry. This article is about pushing our opinions on are readers. Matter of fact, your medical treatment is a personal decision.

We have to respect it, regardless of our personal feelings. However, many wonder how is it possible to perform at a high level, while you are faced with a life altering virus? I know this is a topic that CMV Music Network Music has had to consider on many occasions. We have had dig deep to decide if it was morally right, to ask our artists to put themselves in a position where they may end up getting sick. We could spend hours just hashing out all the events that have transpired since the outbreak began. (Source Photos: Terry Douglas)

When your violin speaks as your voice. “When I finally got lessons, I couldn’t get enough of it. I don’t know how its possible to be so young and want to do something like that so bad”. – Emily V.

Do you know what a Rock and Roll Violinist is? Well, if you don’t you are missing out. The center of your world, comes crashing down because you have missed out on this artform. Someone awakens you from a deep sleep, because you have been listening to one genre all of your life. Yes, you have heard the fiddle played before. You have heard the violin in different settings. Have you had thoughts that the violin just doesn’t do it for you? Not because the performer isn’t talented, you just want something that allows you to jam. Like a fine wine, or smooth whisky. You have a specific palette, and if your taste isn’t met than it’s time to move on. “Fine wine, and smooth whiskey. I have specific tastes, and there just isn’t room for anything else”. Well, that is what I use to think. That is until I met Emily V. I believe, my world was rocked when I heard Emily V play the violin. I watched a video of her on You Tube. She made a statement, that I often refer too. She said “her violin is her voice”. Indeed, her means of communication are impeccable. Does she really need to say more, when she performs like she does? The only thing left is interpretation of its language.

Stephanie Nash GETTING STARTED IN A WORLD FULL OF TALENTED ARTISTS.

If you don’t identify your strengths and weaknesses are early on, you’re opening yourself up for failure. Living with blinders on, will not help you as an artist. The wisest course, is to have a full understanding of what is going on in the industry. Once you do, then proceed with caution. Determine the culture and understand how you will react. - Stephanie Nash

Biggest challenge is who you know. This is an industry where it takes much time to get established. When I go to round’s I always wonder how these artists aren’t signed or why country music doesn’t establish more with the talent in town. I think as an industry we shouldn’t about who you know but the talent you bring forward to country music. - Stephanie Nash

CMV Music Network asked Samantha Fish how she got her start, and what has motivated her to be one a blues artist. “I was attracted to blues music, first as a guitar player. Every Rock N Roll player I loved was heavily influenced by the blues. I loved the improvisational factor with the solos, the voicing and expressiveness in the bends and vibrato. Then when I discovered north miss/hill country/and the delta style, that was it for me. My hometown of KC only further cemented my interest, there was always some place to go play and cut your teeth.” — Samantha Fish

Loyalty and trust. More than words can say. – Interview with Todd Barrow. I could go on and on. Each one of us have heard these expressions throughout our relationship with the music industry. Often, there are more promises, than there is results. Why is that? What is wrong with showing loyalty and trust? Somewhere in history, someone proposed that expressing loyalty and trust was a sign of weakness. Apparently, this particular view has worked for many organizations, agencies, and even artists. I know this topic is going to strike a nerve. Because it applies to many big names in the industry. There are lesser known entities, that I have found it difficult to build trust in. However, is this really a sign of weakness? Or is it more of a defect in one’s ability to function in a business environment?

“Follow through is very important to me. Once I commit to something I stick with it”. - Todd Barrow

The short and direct answer is to focus on “actions, proof, and credibility”. Since the start of the Country Music Vibe brand back in 2018, I can recount several artists that have proven their trustworthiness. Todd Barrow, a country music artist from the great state of Texas is one of them. I don’t believe for a moment that Todd Barrow has been loyal to Country Music Vibe for any other reason than his character.

Loyalty and trust are backed by actions. Yes, many of you will read this introduction and recount all the times when the music industry turned their back on you. Maybe you were impressed by their confidence, and the list of artists they represented. The idea of becoming successful under someone’s guidance was too enticing to pass up. An unfulfilling business relationship ended with disappointment, resentment, and a feeling of failure. Does this mean that it is time to give up on your hopes and dreams? No, not by any means.

CMV Music Network had an opportunity to ask Todd Barrow some questions. We wanted to find out more about his character, and what has made him a loyal person by nature. CMV: Hello Todd, I want to thank you for taking the time to answer some questions today. Undoubtedly you have read the topic of this interview, an have an idea on some of the questions we will pose to you. It was an easy decision to decide who I would select to interview for this topic. Even though Country Music Vibe isn’t working directly for your brand at this time, you kept an open line of communication with CMV. Why is that? Todd: I have always believed in the vision of CMV. Many opportunities to gain exposure for my music and being supported. CMV: I can recall booking venues, or events for you years ago, and you never pushed back, or seemed disingenuous about it. I always knew I could count on you. The reputation that you have is exemplary. I have communicated this in the past, and it has always helped in booking you for shows. Though, your music and following came into play as well . In an industry, that can be brutal at times, have you ever found it difficult to remain trusting? After all, many consider it a sign of weakness. Todd: Follow through is very important to me. Once I commit to something I stick with it. There have been some hard times along the way and dealing with shady characters can be a challenge. CMV has always been good about getting things in writing.

CMV: Do you recall a specific time, when an agency, venue, or other wasn’t forthright in their intentions on fulfilling their promise? If so, how were you able to remain composed? Todd: Yes, I have dealt with poor management and venues that were unfriendly. The fans at each event have always had my back and cheered me on. CMV: In the music industry, you’re not always going to make friends. If you think that success depends upon making friends with who you work with, you’re going to be disappointed. An effective working relationship needs trust and loyalty only. If you make good friends, that is a plus. We would probably be the first ones to say, we haven’t always seen eye to eye with our clients. That is ok. Not everyone will agree with what is best for their development. How do you deal with those that you have personality conflicts with? Todd: This is very true. I have always remained calm in these situations. Trying to see their point of view and accepting that not everyone is going to agree with your way of thinking. We want to take a moment to thank Todd Barrow for his trust and loyalty. If you want to learn more about Todd Barrow, please visit his website at https://www.toddbarrowmusic.com/ Also download his latest release called Good Luck, on any major music platform. 2021 had many spectacular releases by some very talented artists. We spent countless hours reviewing the data. It wasn’t easy to determine who were the top 10 indie artists of 2021. However, we made it through it, and published our findings. To find out more about who we selected, and which artists were deserving of consideration, please visit https://www.cmvnetwork.com/top-artists-playlist/2021

We want to thank all of the artists that contributed to the launch of our website CMV Music Network. Within the last month, we have had over 1,000 viewers. This is amazing considering we just launched our website in the third quarter of 2021. It really goes to show that we have some loyal fans, and artists. We have several projects that we are working on at this time. Interviews, Audio Podcasts, Live Streaming, and a Magazine. Needless to say, it takes a lot of time to make these projects succeed. However, it is out of love for music that we invest our time and resources. It is with confidence and pride that we continue providing exposure for artists of all sorts. We enjoy representing the artists, that are truly in need. Your feedback and appreciation is appreciated by our team at CMV Music Network. Thank you.
