SEE YOU LATER W/ SYLVIA Greetings new secretaries! In April, I was officially retired from my position and was crowned the IP District Secretary for this past year. It was an extremely quick ride, one willed with new relationships and oncein-a-lifetime experiences. KIWN’S is an organization that I can say in one word is unique; really, if you never knew why a bunch of spirited high school kids were screaming and chanting because of this contagious passion, you would think that KIWIN’S was just a group of crazy people. But we know that it’s because we just love this organization so much because it allows service to be exciting, and we’re so thankful for the friendships and opportunities involved. It was truly a pleasure to serve you all under the District Board All-Stars, who were such a funpacked and strong group of individuals, as well as the loving Kiwanis advisors who supported everything we do. I was so blessed to have these people in my life because I wouldn’t have been able to do anything without them. I would also like to thank the members for giving me this opportunity and allowing me to be awarded “Board Member of the Year” at District Convention. To those who have just started in the KIWIN’S experience, here are some lessons learned: 1) In everything you do, even when it’s helping other people, never do it for yourself. When your heart goes out to the strangers who surround you, the fulfillment just comes naturally. 2) Never lose hold of amazing opportunities, even when you feel that there is no hope; you 4 never really know unless you try, and doing so opens your eyes to the unseen potential people can have. 3) Believe in yourself
and other people. When you don’t believe in yourself but others do, it automatically fills up the lack of the confidence; same vice versa. 4) Don’t be a part of something unless you really love it. Even if you work really hard in the things you lack interest in, your heart will feel incomplete without the passion. It should never be for any other reason but because you love what you do. 5) Learn how to get back on your feet in the hardest of times, and make sure you never avoid it because overcoming it only makes you stronger and more knowledgeable. As for me, now that I’m just an old IP dsec, I’m scrolling through Facebook and crying because I saw pictures of the new District Board at May Board and they made me so happy. I’m kidding, but I love the new board so much and I’m so excited to see what Tiffany has in store for you guys. She has this crazy, genuine love for MRFs so I know that when she teaches you all how to complete them, she’ll be doing it with heart eyes and a voice of pure excitement. Last notes: remember to never procrastinate on your MRFs and always ask questions. Strive to become a distinguished secretary and put your best effort in everything you do. Simply be the best secretary you can be! Anyways, as we are entering into a completely new KIWIN’S year, I wish the best for this term!
Signing off, Sylvia Kwon 2014-2015 Immediate Past Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN’S District Secretary 5
