What Is “Stop Hunger Now”?
For the 2016-2017 year, CNH KIWIN’S will be partnering with Stop Hunger Now, an international non-profit organization set to combat international hunger. This year, we are choosing to place one of our three main focuses on combatting international hunger to ensure every individual have access to basic necessities. Stop Hunger Now was established, by Ray Buchanan (United Methodist minister) in 1998 and began distributing meal packages to developing regions in 2005. As of today, this organization has recruited over 500,000 volunteers to partake in the meal packaging and distribution programs, providing over 225 million meals in the United States, South Africa, Malaysia, India, Italy, Peru and the Philippines. In addition, Stop Hunger Now is partnered with 38 other organization, expanding and efficiently allowing them to process and distribute meal packages. Stop Hunger Now aims to achieve three goals by 2030: ending extreme poverty, fighting inequality and injustice, and fixing climate change by committing to 17 Global Goals. This organization provides meals to countries promoting academic growth and proper dieting through funding and meal packaging. Not only does this organization provide essential nutrient rich foods, but it also addresses current social and academic issues via grants it receives from beneficiaries. Similar to CNH KIWIN’S, grants are distributed to be used to support, provide, and fortify education projects, school supplies, and relief programs post disasters. 87.9% of all donations given to this organization is utilized in partnered programs.
What Is “Stop Hunger Now”? (Cont.) Only through teamwork can world hunger end. To exemplify and live out our ohana spirit, we are asking each and every one of you to partake in this partnership, as we work TOGETHER to help others gain their rights to basic necessities, food and water. As stated by Ray, “The first thing you learn in the Marine Corps is that you're responsible not only for yourself, but everybody close to you”. Ending world hunger is a collaborative effort and requires some form of beneficial contributions from everyone. As an individual, club, division, or district, we can all work together to make a HUGE impact on someone’s life right now. Signing up with local Food Banks, participating in a food collection drive, and volunteering at a soup kitchen, are all simple ways to become an integral part of this program. We sometimes take the food on our plate for granted as well as our education; give back and show your gratitude by inspiring others through service! Spread awareness to others through both social network and word by mouth.

Service Project & Fundraising Ideas Fundraising and service go hand-in-hand for Stop Hunger Now. Ultimately, your goal is to host a food packaging event either at a local Stop Hunger Now warehouse or at your clubs’ location. However, you will need to raise some money before you’re able to package.
Meal Packaging Event Process 1. Set a goal for the number of meals you will package. 40-50 volunteers can create about 10,152 packages in about two hours! 2. Recruit the appropriate number of volunteers for your goal! When you ad vertise, be sure to mention that meal packaging is a very simple task that promotes team-building and leadership development to attract members. 3. Raise money for your event! It’s only $0.29 for each meal you package. Take a look at the list below for some effective fundraising ideas!
FUNDRAISING IDEAS: SMALL 1. Hold regular bake sales at your school! Find out how often you can host them from your ASB— Some schools have do them on a weekly basis!
2. Sell water bottles at your school dances! After a long night of dancing the night away, people will definitely want something to quench
their thirst.
MEDIUM
LARGE
1. Collaborate with a local food chain to host a flyer fundraiser. Contact the location’s manager to set up a date!
1. Host a benefit concert in support of Stop Hunger Now! You can charge for admission and have members audition to be featured in the show.
2. Create “Stop Hunger Now” merchandise! Great items include “I want to Stop Hunger Now” pins, t-shirts, rubber bracelets, and lanyards.
2. Hold an Awake-a-Thon with your club and charge for admission! If people fall asleep, charge them for every hour they slept!
