MP wants local work for local people by Sherry Barnes Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry recently made a visit to Central Queensland mines including the Carmichael mine site. Here, she told Adani executives that both the company’s coal mine and rail project need to employ a mix of locals from small regional towns, as well as cities like Rockhampton and Mackay during construction and operational stages. Ms Landry welcomes the approval of the Adani coal rail corridor saying it will be a major boost to job growth over coming years – but local people, with the right skill set, must get high priority for jobs. “We don’t want all the actual mine jobs or even rail construction jobs going to Brisbane, Cairns or Townsville. I want local work for local people on that mine and rail line, and I’ve made that very clear to Adani and the Minister,” she said. Ms Landry said the mine and rail project, delivering coal to shipping terminals at Abbot Point was forecast to generate up to 7,000 jobs during the proposed peak construction in 2015.

properties will be impacted by the rail corridor, to ensure their concerns about potential flooding were considered.

In the meantime Ms Landry urged both State Government and Adani to continue to engage with local farmers whose

Would we use the efficient French train network or rent a car? Would we use the efficient French train network or rent a car? All men are good drivers. Just ask us. It’s a talent that comes naturally and ensures we are at ease on any stretch of road in the world. When we started planning a holiday in France several months ago, we considered traveling by train. The plan was to fly from Brisbane to Lyon and spend several weeks heading south to Nice on the Mediterranean coast. Would we use the efficient French train network or rent a car? The trains are fast and reliable, the network extensive and most of the stations are located near the centre of town. If, however, we rented a car then we would be able to take side trips into the countryside and be totally independent. Who would drive? Why I would, of course, because I’m a bloke and by definition a great driver.

Driving in France on the "wrong" side of the road? No worries, mate! She’ll be right. I once lived in the United States and for three years, managed to stay on the ``wrong’’ right hand side of the road. Then one morning, a few months before I was to return to Australia, my mind decided that it was already back in Brisbane and commanded me to drive on the left hand side of the road. Bang! I collided head-on with another car. I walked away with nothing more than a crushed car, crushed ego and a ticket for negligent driving and still can’t figure out how it all happened.

I had one previous driving experience in France and it involved its high speed toll roads. All went well until a toll booth appeared from nowhere and I made the mistake of pulling up at one which didn’t take credit cards, only cash. ``Money!’’ I yelled at my wife who thrust a handful of euros into my hand. I tossed the coins into the basket that funneled them into the machine but in my panic, half of them missed and bounced along the roadway. ``More money!’’ I yelled and my wife grabbed another fistful of coins. ``Not enough!’’ I yelled as the cars behind me started blasting me with horns and the boom gate remained resolutely in place. My fingers raked the centre console. Surely we had more euros. No, there was only an apple. ``Aaaghhh!’’ I cried in absolute frustration and climbing out of the car, I held the apple above my head so that it was clearly visible to all the other drivers and then hurled it into the coin basket. Baaaarrp! Baaaarrp! went the horns as they watched the funny, purple faced man from Australia jumping up and down, shaking his fist at the toll booth and throwing fruit into the coin basket. Convinced I was insane, they reversed and headed to another booth, leaving us to find one that took credit cards.

car for about four years, collected it at the airport and headed into town. This we would find easily because we left Australia we’d bought a satellite navigation device and loaded it with French maps. Voila! There was no voila. The sat-nav steadfastly refused to display the French map. It was quite happy to show us how to get from Chermside to the Brisbane City Hall but disinclined to direct us from the Lyon airport to the city. Merde!

A satellite navigation device loaded with French maps.

Herewith some tips for driving in France. Half the streets in any given city are one way and will always be going in the opposite direction to where you want to go. There is no street parking in France. Every

So on this trip we booked a car for Lyon and conscious of not having driven a left hand drive

street in the country is permanently jammed with cars. I saw one vacant space in three weeks. Your hotel will not have parking but will direct you to a parking station where you will pay about $50 a day. In the older and therefore more desirable sections of the city where you are likely to stay, the streets are so narrow you have to fold your rear view mirrors in to avoid scraping them. As you edge along these laneways in first gear – automatics are almost unheard of - you are mindful of the $1200 insurance excess you have on the hire car and know that any scratch is likely to be an expensive one. My wife navigated throughout the entire trip with a paper map and we only tried to strangle each other once. Next time? I might be the best driver in the world but pass me that train timetable.

Alpha Coal Project one step closer….. After over 6 years of environmental assessments, GVK Hancock has been granted an Environmental Authority for its Alpha Coal Project in the Galilee Basin. Manager Corporate Affairs, Josh Euler said it is recognition of the scientific rigour that went into the assessment which included 300 scientific studies involving over 50 specialist consultants. “This milestone takes us one step closer to commencing our Alpha mine which will create 4,000 jobs during its three year construction and more than 1,800 over 30 years of operation,” said Mr Euler. “One step closer to bringing online a low cost, low ash, low sulphur, high quality thermal coal basin offering the ability to lower emissions from global coal fired power generation.” Mr Euler said the combination of large scale mining techniques and favourable geology deliver a free-on-board price, ensuring the proposed Alpha mine remains relatively immune to cyclical coal prices. “Once we finalise the infrastructure joint venture

“We’ve invested tens of millions of dollars and thousands of man hours assessing and engaging with communities to reach this point”……Josh Euler. with Aurizon and the regulatory bodies have addressed litigious challenges to approvals, we will execute coal off-take agreements before finalising all financing arrangements.” The proposed Alpha mine has a JORC compliant resource of 1.8 billion tonnes, with 1.2 billion tonnes of reserves and will be a full open cut mine producing around 32 million tonnes per annum for 30 years.

EIS approval for Bowen Pipeline by Sherry Barnes Arrow Energy said environmental approval of the Arrow Bowen Pipeline expected to be about 500 km long allows CSG to be taken from Moranbah in the Bowen Basin to Gladstone. “The proposed pipeline is a key piece of infrastructure in our plans to bring to market our

Qantas – Toowoomba flights set to commence More than 27,000 people flocked to Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport (BWWA) for their Community Open Day, and they were delighted to see 2014 IndyCar champ, Will Power race a Cessna Mustang Citation jet down the newlycompleted 2.87 km runway.

significant gas reserves in the Bowen Basin,” said Arrow CEO, Andrew Faulkner. Arrow had been safely developing CSG from the Bowen Basin since 2000 and supplying it commercially since 2004. Mr Faulkner said development options for Arrow’s Surat Basin reserves were being progressed and that collaboration discussions with third parties continue to identify the best option for commercialising gas reserves in both Surat and Bowen basins.

Hundreds of much needed new jobs Michael Roche, CEO of Queensland Resource Council said the Bowen Basin gas reserves will create more than 1500 construction jobs and 600 permanent jobs for Queenslanders.

The free event was the last chance to preview Australia’s newest airport near Toowoomba before QantasLink services begin on November 17.

“The 500km long pipeline is a fundamental part of the project and approval is welcome news for the people of Central Queensland who have felt the impact of job losses in the coal sector,’ he said.

Qantas will service 11 return flights per week to and from Sydney and provide a Toowoomba centric schedule of double daily services on weekdays and daily on weekends.

The Arrow Energy Bowen Gas Project involves developing Arrow’s tenements near its existing gas fields with staged expansion of about 4000 gas wells and infrastructure in an 8000km2 area.

“I am woman…. hear me roar” Laura Tyler, the first woman appointed as Asset President within BHP Billiton has won the inaugural Thiess Women In Resources National Awards. She introduced Cannington Mine’s first diversity plan to improve the attraction and retention of women in the company’s workforce. (BHP Billiton’s Cannington in North-West Queensland is the world’s largest silver and lead mine.) A mother of three, Laura has worked across three continents and been a “FIFO wife”. She spends many hours mentoring other women both inside and outside the company, to help them succeed in the sector. She is also the first woman appointed as Vice President of the Queensland Resources Council and chair of the Minerals Council of Australia Gender Diversity Reference Group. “We must encourage our male colleagues to speak out on the subject. They remain the dominant hiring managers in our business and it’s only through their engagement that we’ll see magnified change in the status quo,” said Laura. “I’ve spoken at women’s events around the world and show them that females can fill senior roles. I believe

Laura Tyler – blazing the way for other women. diversity is not only important for individuals but also for businesses.” “Often I am the only woman at the table in meetings, this needs to be corrected.” Laura said the ability to transform a natural resource into energy, infrastructure or food has far reaching implications for the communities beyond our front gate. “It’s the cornerstone for improving living standards across the world – the role our industry plays is very significant and comes with great responsibility.”

BMA’s Caval Ridge Mine opens The Mayor of Queensland’s largest mining region said she’ll continue the plight against a 100% forced FIFO workforce at Caval Ridge Mine which opened midOctober near Moranbah with an expected yield of 5.5 million tonnes per annum. Anne Baker (pictured) said while all new development and longterm investment is welcome it’s more important than ever that local people have the chance to apply for local jobs. “Our community here is stoic, vibrant and successful, with a 40 year history in mining.” “BMA chose a 100% FIFO workforce and elected to remove genuine choice from workers and families to live locally,” she said. Mayor Baker urges the Premier to commit to a concrete and appropriate regulatory approvals process enabling support for companies who understand the need for sustainable mining and strong communities. “Workers shouldn’t be steamrolled into moving away from families and

their community – while Council is not naïve enough to expect the total employment numbers to be sourced locally, some would be a huge benefit.” She said incentive and choice for local family living should be at the heart of mining company operations in the region, not 100% forced FIFO. “We have yet to receive a clear explanation or demonstration of data for the need for 100% forced FIFO on any project when we’ve got skilled workforce living in our region,” Mayor Baker said.

Who pays for land dumping? by Sherry Barnes Dr Libby Connors from Save The Reef said the group is concerned regarding Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney’s reported comments that the state government would work to address the high cost of onshore disposal of dredge material extracted from reef waters. “We are concerned about what he means about curbing costs. In Gladstone Port when environmental department officers approved modification of the bund wall, it was an engineering failure, she said. “We don’t want another ecocide on the scale of Gladstone at Abbot Point.

Dr Connors said dredging will continue to spread unacceptable levels of siltation and that onshore disposal in Gladstone has been disastrous.

“The Indian company Adani which intends to mine coal in the Galilee Basin and build a terminal at Abbot point has publicly stated if it isn’t under construction buy 2015, then its entire project is at risk.

She said the company plans to build a coal dump alongside important wetlands .

“At Gladstone, despite promises to protect adjoining wetlands, cost-cutting resulted in the loss of bird feeding and nesting sites.

My town AIRLIE BEACH by Danielle Krista I moved to the Whitsundays from Brisbane in 2006 following a sailing holiday around the islands for 10 days. That’s how most locals have ended up here! You come on a holiday here and something gets you – whether it’s the endless amazing landscapes, the laid back friendly nature of the town, the constant opportunities to make new friends from all over the world, the lifestyle – I suspect it’s all of those things combined. But it’s enamoured many of us and will be sure to catch many more in the future. Airlie Beach (or just ‘Airlie’ as we locals call it, or ‘the beach’ as Proserpine locals call it!) is the mainland hub of the Whitsundays. The region is an internationally renowned tourist destination for good reason. There are 74 tropical islands, the Great Barrier Reef, world famous Whitehaven Beach and the southern hemisphere’s largest collection of sailing boats (you can head out with a professional crew or skipper yourself) to enjoy it all. Airlie is the jumping point for all of it. I doubt I’m even 50% of the way towards exploring and discovering it all! But I try to get out on the water every opportunity that I can. Airlie itself is a small town neighboured by the two main residential suburbs of Cannonvale and Jubilee

Pocket. The lush green hills of Airlie are full of tourist accommodation all overlooking those bright blue seas out to the islands. There’s been a major overhaul of the town centre recently and since that’s been completed there’s been plenty of new restaurants and shops opening up throughout town. There’s also still all the old faithful bars and nightclubs which ensure every night in Airlie Beach feels like a Saturday night. In fact you’ll often hear locals say Airlie is a ‘drinking town with a sailing problem’! It’s certainly a fun place to live with lots to do! I am lucky enough to work in the tourism industry and that keeps my passion for the Whitsundays well and truly alive. My husband works full time on a private yacht, so we’re pretty lucky to have such great jobs in such a beautiful place. In our spare time we sell fresh flowers at the Airlie Beach Markets. They’re held every Saturday right on the beach and as with everything in Airlie, they’re very friendly and laid back. We love the chance to catch up with friends and colleagues as they wander past. If you’re visiting on the weekend, come and say hello!

Emotional tributes for our police force Local officers from Nebo, Dysart, Middlemount and Clermont joined Moranbah’s full police regiment at the National Police Remembrance Day ceremony which included reading passages to honour fallen comrades. Isaac Mayor, Anne Baker laid a wreath along with representatives from BMA and said it was a honour to speak at the event. “I express my extreme and sincere gratitude to the officers who have fallen or been injured, their families and those who continue to serve our communities,” she said. “Every day our men and women in blue put themselves at risk to keep us safe and it’s a heavy burden that every officer accepts willingly.” 2014 marks the 150th year of policing in Queensland and Moranbah’s ceremony paid tribute to the 140 fallen heroes lost from the Police Service since 1861.

NQBP gained a strong 2013-14 financial position which was a result of record throughput with more than 164.7 million tonnes (up 12.4%) passing through our four ports. Coal tonnages through both Hay Point and Abbot Point ports showed continued improvement during the year, with the greatest improvements seen at Hay Point (up 23.8%). Other key contributors to the strong 2013-14 result included increased productivity in Weipa due to a shipping channel expansion, upgrades to the Bowen wharf to allow for an additional tug operation and completion of a new fuel tank development at the Port of Mackay, supporting an increase in fuel imports.

Tieri Tales Looking Back The stars came out to play when the Tieri Academy of Dance held their annual show. From the tiniest tappers to the graceful art of the seniors, the night was a celebration of dance. Dance teacher Miss Brook said she was incredibly proud of all the kids and grateful for the support of the parents and amazing backstage helpers. “Without all the help I have had this would not have happened. I have had people who travelled up from Bundaberg to help out with video and lighting, as well as the brilliant photography of Brett Prew” she said. “The kids were fabulous in their costumes and I hope they all had a great experience” The Junior Peak Down Pirates under 16’s team made us all proud getting into this year’s Central Highlands Rugby League Grand Final with Emerald Brothers. The team was made up of boys from as far away as Longreach and Blackall, with some players travelling six hours one way to play with the team on weekends. Although the Emerald Brothers took the game on the day with a 30 to 8 win, the Junior Pirates were in the game all the way with the half time score at 12 to 8. The boys are a credit to their parents and coaches. School holidays can get a bit dull, so CTM links held a holiday fun craft day on 3rd October. The kids potted their own cactus and made bath salts. Stacey from CTM Links said it was great fun over 20 children attended. CTM links held a photo competition for the cover artwork of the new edition of

Tieri Kindy Kids – Live music in the park was held on Sunday 19th October to raise funds for the local C & K Kindy. The day features lots of activities for the young ones, such as face painting, cupcake decorating, jumping castles and a photo booth. While the kids were super busy, mums and dads got a chance to chill out and listen to some great music.

The fun starts around 4pm. Please get involved by decorating your homes, front lawns and of course by dressing in your spooky, creepy best! Movember Golf and Family day has become a fixture on the Tieri social calendar and this year’s event will be held on 1st November at the golf club. The Australian Women in Resource Alliance ( AWRA) e-mentoring program was launched in early 2013 to provide valuable support to women forging a career in these sectors. AMMA Executive Tara Diamond said more than 150 resource professionals are already benefiting from the Program which facilitates an online relationship tailored to the remote locations and non-traditional work schedules of many resource workers. “Investment in initiatives like AWRA is vital if we are to see women’s participation in the sector increase from the current 15% to our goal of 25% by 2020,” she said. “For a women working on a remote mine site or oil rig, a connection to an experienced professional working in a different state or on another project can make all the difference to their career development.” Find more information on the e-Mentoring program at www.amma.org.au

Getting Married? Here comes the bride…and it’s you!

Have your cake and eat it too

A September wedding for Chloe and Andrew Sellick of Tieri who were married at Ridgemill Estate Winery in Severnlea (near Stanthorpe) and they honeymooned in Tasmania.

Photo by Rob Bampton It’s here..your wedding day and he’s going to think you look gorgeous. He already does, otherwise why would he be here? (and let’s hope he is). Dressed in your choice of gown you’ll walk towards a man who holds the key to your heart and you’ll feel excited, maybe nervous, but most of all, in complete control and with a touch of bliss. Savour the moment, enter right into the magic and smile. If you can face breakfast try to have one. You may not get another chance until they place a meal in front of you at the reception and if you fancy a

couple of glasses of bubbly with your attendants while putting your make-up on, go ahead (but only a couple). Your head is in a whirl and this is not the time to cope with florists, place-cards, last minute delivered gifts..that’s what bridesmaids are for. They will look after you. You have earned this special time to pause for a moment and if your father is there with you to “give you away” hold his hand tightly in the bridal car on the way, because both of you will treasure that moment forever.

When it is time to cut the cake, everyone at the wedding will be feeling great anyway and won’t care if it’s filled with fruit, or is a dark or white chocolate mud cake. Be prepared to have guests taking heaps of photographs of you both during the cake-cutting ceremony. Wedding cakes were once white inside and out. Now your cake can be any colour or shape you choose, so approach its design as you would any other aspect of the day; co-ordinate colour, theme and your personal style. It could be wise to consider weather, distance for the cake to travel to the venue and whether a fresh cream citrus cake may melt on the way. A croquembouche (pyramid of profiteroles) is always stunning and if you select a professional cake-maker, confirm your order in plenty of time before the day. Ask for a sample so you will know what it tastes like. A good cake-maker will be able to offer you a variety of flavours and finishing touches. Choose a flavour you think will be enjoyed by all and know that whatever you choose will be delicious, especially that moment when you cut the cake and feed each other the first slice. (This always makes a great photo so make sure you do it)

The word “passion” inevitably emerges during conversations with a drag-car or drag-bike racer and relatively new recruit Flame Howard is no exception, beginning to race her Harley-Davidson at Benaraby a mere 12 months ago. No newcomer to bikes though, she began Motocross aged seven and is Vice President of Consolidated Bikers, a social bike club providing live shows and raising funds for various causes including Cerebral Palsy League, Endeavour Foundation, Regional Arts Council, Domestic Violence Awareness. Experienced Spanish dancing horse trainer with the touring 50-horse circus Alcheringa, Flame now keeps 15 on her property outside Childers. “I’ll ride anything – horses or Harleys”, said the multi-faceted Gemini who also plays guitar and sings, entertaining at last year’s All Bike Meet at Benaraby Raceway. “I got straight off the bike and onto the stage – that raised a few eyebrows.”

Last May Flame burned headlong into her 50th birthday at 187 kph, hearing the clock strike midnight as she won Runner-Up Trophy in the Bike Twins. She is currently placed 4th in the Championships with only about 6 points separating the top five racers. “ Everyone wants to know how fast they can go and the Friday night Test & Tune enables young drivers to unleash energy and test their skills in a safe, supervised environment,” she said. “I must say my Harley is fabulous though – it goes and goes, never misses a beat.”

“Postpone the Bike Meet – I’m getting married” by Sherry Barnes Benaraby Raceway’s annual All Bike Meet was to be held last August, but it was postponed due to rainy weather, proving fortunate for Scott Fulloon whose wedding to Anne-Marie was scheduled for the same day. “It’s the largest All Bike Drag Meet in Australia with about 165 entrants expected and I’ll certainly be there on November 8,” said Scott who was the Bike Meet’s Runner-Up three years in a row.

He owns a Harley dealership in Gladstone and has been drag racing since 2006. Scott bought his Harley-Davidson V-Rod Destroyer, Screamin’ Eagle about 18 months ago from a Melbourne racer who had it sent from New York. “Only 636 of these Harleys were produced in 2006 with only 30 coming to Australia,” he said. “It was a brokendown basket case when I got it.” It now does the quarter-mile in 9.90 seconds at 134 mph (220ks). “World records have been broken at Benaraby Raceway – it’s the best regional track in Australia.”

Prawn Star a first for Cairns

Fishing

with Foxie

BY JOHN FOX

Fishing at this time of year is at its best offshore Managers Michelle and Dave Levy. There’s something fishy going on at Cairns Marlin Marina with the city’s first floating seafood market offering a selection of ready-to-eat cooked prawns, raw prawns, mud crabs, fish and other delicacies of the deep – literally straight off the boat. Managers Dave and Michelle Levy source only Wild Ocean Caught Australian seafood from various local trawlers and suppliers, and as a chef, Michelle loves giving tips on how to cook up a seafood feast and make the most of your purchase. The culture of “ocean to plate” is taking hold with visitors and locals

who wander along the marina for a feed of prawns plus taking a mud crab home for dinner – it’s all very laid back and easy – think “bare feet and boardies”. Owner Danny Moore found his Prawn Star (formerly the Lewis Venture) in Moreton Bay. “She was derelict and hadn’t been moved for three years – a classic timber “sharpie” style trawler regarded for many years as “Pride of Moreton Bay”. Proudly re-invented with a fresh facelift, Prawn Star is open seven days a week.

Sail the Great Sandy Strait

This sheltered waterway separates the mainland from Fraser island, where you find enough freedom and space to leave your cares far behind for a month or two, yet dozens of treasures close enough to reach easily during a weekend away on the water. Add Fraser’s protective sand hills that deflect the strong south-easterlies and you have perfect sailing conditions virtually all year round. Start at Tin Can Bay – this southern section is a succession of sheltered bays – drop the pick at Fraser’s Garry’s Anchorage for the night then explore the creeks in the dingy as you meander north. The Strait is an angler’s paradise of coral reefs, snag-ridden holes, fishladen gutters and flat sandy shallows. There’s the fishing villages of Tinnanbar, Maaroom, Boonooroo, Tuan and Poona, dolphins, dugongs, turtles and stingrays glide effortlessly

across the sandy banks and thousands of birds drop into the Strait Wetlands on their long journey – osprey, egrets, herons, terns and many more call the Great Sandy Strait their home. Towards the northern end of the Strait, a must stop anchorage is Fraser Island’s Kingfisher Bay – next morning set sail along the eastern shore of Woody Island, out into Hervey Bay and while that might mark the northern end of the Great Sandy Strait, there’s still more exploring to do. Platypus Bay is a stop-off retreat for humpback whales and a night anchored in Wathumba Creek near the northern end of Fraser Island brings your sail through the Strait to an end – unless you left the car and boat trailer in Tin Can Bay, in which case you get to experience the Strait’s wonders all over again.

This father and son photo shows Mal Tomlins with a Coral Trout and his son Brett with a Red Emperor caught during a Barrier Reef trip. This time of the year is one the most pleasant times to go fishing, with the weather being typically hot and sunny but not as tropical as the post-Christmas weather. Fishing is at its best offshore. Anglers come from around the world to chase a range of pelagic fish including Sailfish, Black Marlin or Blue Fin Tuna. The Sailfish and Marlin are usually found in the deeper channels between the islands and the reefs where in the summer months there is a lot of baitfish. Trolling skirted lures or large rigged baits are best for these game fish. Tuna are often caught while trolling but what experienced tuna anglers look for are birds diving onto a school of bait fish. These diving birds are a sure sign of feeding tuna, as the fish have chased the bait to the surface where they are easy to pick off. By using a spinning outfit and casting small

chrome slugs or spinners into the schools, tuna will lead to some fast and furious action.

The trick to this style of fishing is not to roar up to the feeding school but to hang back and position your boat upwind and drift into the school. By doing this the tuna don’t spook and you can get very close.

Reef fishing will be great now with some good catches of trout, reds and sweetlip. Fresh bait like squid and fish flesh are the best.

If you are heading out to chase some reefies be aware the Coral Reef Fin Fish Closure is on between the 19th November to the 23rd November and during this time no Reef Fin Fish can be taken.

More information on this closure can be found on the QLD Fisheries website www.daff.gov.au/ fisheries.

You can still fish for barra at inland lakes

Send us your fishing photo

With the East Coast Barramundi Closure coming into force from midday the 1st of November barra anglers attention is turning to the inland stocked lakes at which you can still fish for barra.

Have you got a recent photograph of one that didn’t get away? Send it to us and if we use the photo we will send you Rob Paxevano’s book of over two hundred pages- Australian Fishing Basics. the complete guide to catching popular species of fish, techniques that work and tackling up.

Lakes like Peter Faust, Eungella, Teemburra and Kinchant have all been stocked with barramundi and Sooty Grunter with many of these lakes stocked with saratoga and sleepy cod. Some of the barra in these lakes have grown to well over the metre mark and are strong, powerful fish. Trolling the deep water with deep running lures early morning and late afternoon is a good way to chase these monsters.

FOR ALL YOUR BARRA FISHING TACKLE AND GEAR

If you prefer casting, try for some surface action amongst the lily pads and weed beds early in the morning with some plastic frog lures or prop baits.

Shallow running hard body lures also work well using a slow rolling retrieve or the twitch and pause style of retrieve.

Send your photo with your name, address and phone number to Fishing with Foxie P.O. Box 1775 Bundaberg 4670 or email to editorial@coastlinenews.com.au as a jpeg or pdf. Tell us where and when you caught the fish and the species.

As I said at the start this is one of the nicest times to be on the water in this part of Queensland and the fishing should be great over the next month, so get out there, relax, explore and enjoy the great fishing that our region has to offer. Keep in touch with Foxie at editorial@ coastlinenews.com.au
