There is nothing like the H20. Water is the only thing on the planet that is needed for life by all living creatures, but ironically can rust, destroy and breakdown life as the same time. Let’s explore this fascinating compound called water.
Brad Bowling is the President of CODE Media Group, LLC. Bowling has his BA in mass media communication and an MBA in marketing. He contributes articles to the magazine continuing his love for writing.
At some point, it happens to everyone. You are doing some physical activity, sweating, and breathing, and realize that the only thing that can quench your thirst is water. But why water? Why is water the only thing that can quench thirst? Water is the answer because, for some reason, this colorless, odorless, and tasteless drink is the only thing that it requires by the body for survival.
In fact, every living organism on the planet requires some type of water intake to survive. The most abundant compound on Earth, it covers roughly 71% of the planet's surface and is considered the most vital compound for life.
Yes, your body needs water to survive. Water is essential for many of the body's functions, including:
Temperature regulation: Water helps regulate body temperature through perspiration.
• Lubrication: Water lubricates joints and makes up saliva.
• Waste removal: Water helps remove waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements.
• Nutrient delivery: Water helps bring nutrients to cells.
• Organ protection: Water protects sensitive tissues and organs.
• Constipation relief: Water helps prevent and relieve constipation by moving food through the intestines.
Water makes up about 50% to 70% of your body weight. The body has no way to store water, so it needs a fresh supply every day.
The number of fluids a person needs depends on a number of factors, including age, gender, and activity level:
• Women: Women should drink about two liters (8 cups) of fluids a day.
• Men: Men should drink about 2.6 liters (10 cups) of fluids a day.
• Pregnant or breastfeeding people: Pregnant or breastfeeding people need more fluids than usual.
• Hot days: You will need to drink more fluids if you are outside on a hot day or doing something that makes you sweat
The devastation from Hurricane Helene will take years to recover from for those effected by the storm.
a lot.
• Illness: You will need to drink more fluids if you have an illness that causes you to throw up, have diarrhea, or run a fever.
Dehydration can be life-threatening, especially to babies, children, and the elderly. Consuming the right amount of water daily is essential to good overall health.
When scientists look for life on other planets, they often look for water first. Because water is so vital to life on Earth, they assume that if there is life, there must also be water. Thousands of planets outside of our solar system have been confirmed, and our galaxy may have trillions. Scientists are looking for exoplanets in the "habitable zone" where the surface temperature could support liquid water.
A new "super-Earth" has been discovered in a nearby solar system's habitable zone, according to NASA. The planet, designated as TOI-715 b, is "about one and a half times as wide as Earth" and in a system that is only a measly 137 light-years from Earth. They concluded that water must be present for it to mimic Earth.
Too much of anything can be deadly. There have been reports of people who have consumed too much water. Overhydration due to drinking too much water causes water toxicity, an electrolyte imbalance that can cause symptoms ranging from nausea and headache to unconsciousness and coma. To avoid overhydrating, try to drink no more than about 9–13 cups of fluids per day.
Water can also be deadly if waterborne pathogens exist in it. According to the World Health Organization, around 3.5 million people die each year from waterborne diseases due to inadequate water supply, sanitation, and hygiene. Of those deaths, 2.2 million are children.
In the United States, waterborne pathogens cause an estimated 6,630 deaths each year. Drinking water exposures are responsible for 50% of deaths from waterborne pathogens.
Some of the most common waterborne diseases in the United States include:
• Otitis externa, or "swimmer's ear"
• Norovirus infection
• Giardiasis
• Cryptosporidiosis
Climate change is increasing the risk of waterborne diseases through extreme weather events, rising air temperatures, and rising water temperatures.
Climate change is also responsible for the increase and intensity of natural disasters. The recent hurricane Helene devastated the lower Eastern United States and killed over 120 people. The hurricane hit Florida at a category 4, but by the time it reached Tennessee, it dropped more than 40tn gallons of rain in 12 hours devastating the area and wiped out entire towns.
With water intrusion into homes and businesses, the only option after a disaster like Helene is to remove any items that were soaked, treat the areas for mold, and work to dry the areas impacted as quickly as possible.
Moisture is deadly for anything that remains wet for a long period of time. With the increase of floods in low-lying areas, Americans may have to consider if living near water is any longer desirable.
With climate change, it is expected that coastal towns will lose billions of dollars. With rising sea levels causing more frequent and severe flooding, it can damage property and infrastructure, and even transform entire communities.
The problem has gotten so bad that insurance companies have pulled out of several states that continue to deal with the conditions of climate change leaving homeowners to rebuild with their own money. It is predicted that some communities may never be rebuilt because of the lack of funding and protection of homeowners insurance.
Humans have always had a wonderful relationship with water. The sound of running and falling water calms the soul. The feeling pleasure that comes from hearing an afternoon thunderstorm will never get old. Water plays a vital role in the rest and recovery of anyone who needs it.
Warm water in a hot tub can create a feeling of peace and tranquility. The use of a steam room cleanses the body and skin and heals the soul. The feeling that you get when you swim in water allows the mind to relax and recover.
Drinking warm water can stimulate the digestive system, which can help with constipation and make it easier to break down food. Warm water can help relieve a stuffy or runny nose and throat pain caused by a cold. The steam from the water can also help clear nasal passages. Water is simply medicine without the pill.
Cold water is just as effective. Cold water immersion can help prevent and treat muscle soreness after exercise. When immersed in cold water, blood vessels constrict, which reduces blood flow to the area, leading to less swelling and inflammation. Cold water immersion can help improve mood and treat depression. When the body is immersed in cold water, it releases endorphins and dopamine, which can create feelings of alertness and happiness.
Water is an amazing compound. Its ability to create, sustain, and end life is unmatched by any other compound or element on Earth. To understand that is to respect its power and presence. Remember that the next time you drink a glass of water. ●
Many take for granted fresh, clean drinking water.

The phrase “It’s expensive to be poor” is a cliché, but it’s one that rings truer than ever in today’s world and economy. While many people associate poverty with a lack of material possessions, the reality is that it’s a complex web of financial burdens that can be overwhelming.
One of the most significant hidden costs of poverty is the exorbitant fees associated with essential services. For example, people living in poverty often have to pay a premium for utilities like electricity and water. Late and overdraft fees, check cashing fees, disconnection charges, and reconnection fees can quickly spiral out of control, making it difficult to stay current on bills and monthly obligations.
Additionally, transportation can be a major cost burden for those struggling financially. In most cases, people and organizations tend to focus on food and shelter needs, leaving out this very important need. Public transportation can be expensive, especially if it’s necessary to make multiple transfers or travel long distances and especially when we are also considering the size of a family utilizing these services. For those who don’t have access to public transportation, owning a car can be a financial strain due to the costs of fuel, insurance, maintenance, and repairs.
Another major challenge faced by people living in poverty is the debt cycle. Once someone falls behind on bills, it can be difficult to catch up. Late fees, interest charges, and collection fees can quick-
American are struggling to keep up with inflation and many have few options to make ends meet.
ly accumulate, making it seem like an impossible task to climb out of debt.
Payday loans and other high-interest loans only provide temporary relief but often come with exorbitant interest rates and fees. Once a person has started this cycle, they tend to be faced with it until they can address it, typically once a year when a tax refund arrives in the mail. This can create a vicious cycle where people are forced to borrow more money just to pay off their existing debts, not to mention the stress and mental anguish it causes.
Being broke can also limit access to opportunities that can help improve one’s financial situation. For example, people living in poverty may have difficulty getting a job due to lack of transportation, childcare, or appropriate clothing. They may also be unable to afford education or training that could lead to higher-paying jobs.
Additionally, people living in poverty may be more likely to make poor financial decisions due to stress and lack of financial education. This can include impulsive spending, gambling, and other risky behaviors that can further exacerbate financial problems.
The financial burdens associated with poverty can take a significant toll on mental health. Stress, anxiety, and depression are common among people who are struggling
financially. These emotional challenges can make it difficult to focus on work, maintain relationships, and make sound financial decisions.
Let’s talk about how to break the cycle and generational curses that so many of us have experienced or seen many of our loved ones deal with.
While the challenges faced by people living in poverty can seem insurmountable, there are steps that can be taken to break the cycle. These include:
• Seeking financial assistance: Government programs like food programs, utility assistance, housing assistance, and Medicaid can provide much-needed support.
• Setting Goals: Create goals to establish a plan that will help move the wealth needle.
• Getting financial education: Learning basic financial skills can help people make better decisions about budgeting, saving, and borrowing. Take advantage of reading up on, watching, and attending financial and wealth-building seminars.
• Building credit: Establishing a good credit history can make it easier to obtain loans and credit cards with lower interest rates. Work with available non-profits that assist with credit-building plans.
• Advocating for policy changes: Supporting policies and candidates who address income inequality and provide opportunities for economic mobility can help to reduce poverty and its associated costs.
Breaking free from poverty requires a multifaceted approach that addresses both the financial and emotional challenges involved. By understanding the hidden costs of being broke, individuals and communities can work together to create a more equitable and just society. ●

In a world where fitness goals are constantly pursued, one of the most common complaints men face is the struggle to lose stubborn belly fat. The frustrating truth is that no one likes looking down at their stomach to see an unappealing layer of fat that just won’t budge. Many spend hours in the gym, alter their diets, and experiment with various strategies to eliminate belly fat, often with slow or disappointing results.
While the process of shedding body fat is a gradual one, there is an extremely effective approach that can help you lose belly fat faster than ever. This article breaks down a proven twopronged strategy designed to accelerate fat loss in a way that attacks the problem from multiple angles: diet and highintensity exercise.
By combining these two powerful methods, this guide will help you achieve the lean, toned stomach you’ve been striving for in no time.
Why is belly fat so difficult to lose? Stomach fat, especially visceral fat (the fat stored around your organs), is stubborn for several reasons. Hormones, genetics, lifestyle, and diet all play a role in fat accumulation in the abdominal area. Unfortunately, there’s no magical spot-reduction technique to target belly fat directly. When the body sheds fat, it does so gradually across various areas.
However, belly fat poses more than just an aesthetic concern. Research shows that excess visceral fat increases the risk of several health problems, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and metabolic syndrome. Therefore, losing this fat isn’t just about looking better — it’s about improving your overall health.
To combat this issue, a strategic approach is essential. Let’s dive into the two-pronged method for fast and effective belly fat loss.
One of the quickest ways to start shedding fat, especially around the stomach, is by eliminating refined sugar from your diet. Refined sugar has infiltrated nearly every aspect of modern eating habits. It’s found in beverages, snacks, condiments, and even foods that are often perceived as “healthy.”
Sugar is a significant driver of fat storage, particularly in the abdominal area. When you consume sugar, particularly in the form of refined or added sugars, your body converts much of it
into fat. This process starts with a spike in insulin, the hormone responsible for regulating blood sugar levels. When insulin spikes, the body enters fat-storage mode. Over time, this leads to weight gain, especially around the midsection. Additionally, high sugar consumption can lead to increased cravings, making it harder to control hunger and food intake. This vicious cycle can trap you in a constant battle with overeating, weight gain, and fatigue.
The beauty of this step is that it doesn’t require extra effort; it simply involves cutting out something you’re already consuming. This means eliminating all sources of refined sugar, including:
• Sodas and sugary drinks
• Packaged snacks and candy
• Desserts
• Sugary cereals
• Processed foods with added sugars
• Specialty coffee drinks with syrups
It’s shocking how much sugar is hidden in everyday food products. Take a moment to analyze what you eat daily, and you’ll likely find that refined sugars have crept into more meals than you realized.
While you’re eliminating sugar, it’s essential not to deprive yourself of necessary calories. Starving yourself won’t lead to sustainable fat loss. Instead, focus on consuming high-quality foods that fuel your body and keep your metabolism running efficiently. A diet rich in lean proteins, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and healthy fats is key.
By emphasizing nutrient-dense, low-sugar foods, you’ll keep your body energized without relying on the empty calories from sugar. High-protein foods help build and maintain muscle mass, while fiber-rich vegetables keep you full and satisfied without adding unnecessary calories.
The second part of this strategy involves ramping up the intensity of your workouts. If your current fitness routine hasn’t helped you achieve the lean stomach you desire, it’s time to take things up a notch. The truth is that most people are simply not working out with enough intensity to burn significant fat.
Low-intensity exercise, while still beneficial, often falls short when it comes to fat loss, especially belly fat. Walking on the treadmill or casually lifting weights without truly challenging yourself won’t lead to the results you want. For rapid fat loss, especially around the stomach, you need to push your body harder.
High-intensity training (HIT) refers to any form of exercise that requires you to exert maximum effort for short periods, followed by brief rest periods. It is highly effective for fat loss due to its ability to elevate the heart rate, burn calories during and after the workout, and target visceral fat stores.
Incorporating high-intensity interval training (HIIT) into your routine is an excellent way to burn fat efficiently. HIIT workouts typically last between 20 to 30 minutes and involve alternating periods of all-out effort and recovery. For example, you might sprint for 30 seconds and then walk for one minute, repeating the cycle for 20 minutes.
If you can comfortably hold a conversation or feel the same at the end of your workout as when you started, you aren’t pushing yourself hard enough. You should be pushing your body to the limit, working in a way that challenges both your muscles and your cardiovascular system. The discomfort you feel during high-intensity workouts is a sign that your body is being pushed to adapt and improve.
With consistency, your tolerance for harder workouts will increase, allowing you to embrace the burn and see faster results. This leads to increased fat-burning potential, both during and after your workouts.
The real magic of this fat-loss method happens when you combine both prongs. By cutting out refined sugars and pushing your body to its limits with high-intensity workouts, you’ll create a perfect storm for rapid fat loss.
The first prong eliminating sugar stops your body from storing excess fat. It also stabilizes insulin levels, which curbs cravings and allows your body to access stored fat more effectively. Without a constant influx of sugar to trigger fat storage, your body can finally begin to burn through those stubborn fat reserves, particularly in the abdominal area.
The second prong - high-intensity exercise turns your body into a fat-burning machine. High-intensity workouts increase your metabolic rate, meaning you’ll continue to burn calories long after your workout has ended. This phenomenon, known as excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), helps burn fat around the clock.
Another reason high-intensity workouts are so effective is their impact on muscle mass. Muscles burn more calories than fat, even at rest. By incorporating strength training into your highintensity workouts, you’ll build lean muscle, which in turn boosts your metabolism. This means you’ll be burning more calories throughout the day, even when you’re not exercising.
In addition, muscle provides a firm, toned appearance to the body. As you lose fat, the muscles beneath will become more defined, giving you the lean, sculpted physique you’re aiming for.
1. Meal Planning: Plan your meals in advance to avoid temptation. By preparing healthy, sugar-free meals, you’ll eliminate the need for last-minute, unhealthy choices.
2. Track Progress: Keep track of your workouts and dietary changes. This will help you stay accountable and monitor your progress. Progress can be slow at times, but consistency is key.
3. Work with a Professional: If you’re unsure about how to implement high-intensity workouts safely and effectively, consider working with a personal trainer. A qualified fitness professional can help tailor a workout plan to your specific needs, ensuring that you’re pushing yourself without risking injury.
4. Stay Consistent: As with any fitness plan, consistency is crucial. While results may not appear overnight, sticking with this approach will yield significant changes over time. Give yourself a reasonable timeline to achieve your goals and remember that persistence pays off.
5. Hydrate: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially before and after your workouts. Proper hydration supports metabolism and helps your body recover after intense exercise.
6. Rest and Recovery: Don’t forget the importance of rest. Overtraining can lead to burnout and injury. Ensure you’re getting enough sleep and giving your muscles time to recover between workouts.
Losing belly fat doesn’t have to be an uphill battle. By combining a diet free from refined sugars with high-intensity workouts, you’ll create an optimal environment for rapid fat loss. The two-pronged approach targets both fat storage and calorie burning, helping you achieve a leaner, more defined stomach in a fraction of the time.
The process takes time, effort, and dedication, but the results are well worth it.
By embracing these principles and making them a part of your lifestyle, you can finally shed unwanted belly fat and build the strong, lean body you’ve always wanted. ●
High intensity training is the key to losing belly fat for good.

Breaking up is a part of life that most of us have experienced at one point or another. It's a messy business, filled with tears, heartache, and moments of pure awkwardness. But amidst the emotional rollercoaster, there's often a silver lining of comedic relief. So, let's embark on a lighthearted journey through the land of breakups, where even the most painful situations can be accompanied by a chuckle or two.
The Wrong Text Recipient: Picture this: you've mustered up the courage to end a relationship, and you're about to send the breakup text. Your fingers hover over the keyboard, and with a deep breath, you press send. But, oops! You accidentally sent it to your mom instead of your soon-to-be-ex. Suddenly, your mom is calling you in a panic, asking if everything is alright and if she should be worried about you. Well, at least someone cares, right?
The Awkward Public Display: Breaking up in public can lead to some cringe-worthy moments. Imagine sitting in a busy café, trying to have "the talk" while the barista mishears your conversation and loudly exclaims, "Congratulations! I hope you have a happy life together!" The entire place turns to stare at you, and you wish the floor would just swallow you whole. Well, at least it's not every day you get applauded for a breakup!
The Misguided Supportive Friend: We all have that one wellmeaning friend who wants to help but ends up making things worse. They might decide to stage an intervention, inviting all your friends to gather in your living room with tissues and ice cream, prepared to comfort you during this difficult time. Except, you hadn't actually broken up yet, and now your confused partner walks into a room full of weepy-eyed people, thinking someone must have passed away. Oops!
The Exotic Breakup Destination: Breaking up during a romantic getaway might seem like a good idea in theory. However, in practice, it can quickly turn into a hilarious disaster. Imagine the scene: you're in a picturesque foreign country, surrounded by beautiful landscapes. As you muster up the courage to utter those dreaded words, a street performer nearby starts playing a heart-wrenching melody on their accordion. The timing is impeccable, and you can't help but giggle at the absurdity of it all. Maybe this is the universe's way of saying it's time to move on.
The Accidental Meeting: The breakup is done, and you're finally starting to move on. You decide to venture out into the world again, and what do you know? You bump into your ex at the most inconvenient time and place imaginable. You're standing in the grocery store, holding a pint of ice cream and wearing pajamas with mismatched socks. Meanwhile, they look like they stepped out of a fashion magazine. Talk about bad timing! conference celebrating the diversity culture in Northeast Ohio.
CROWDER
In the heart of Cleveland, a city known for its rich history and cultural diversity, a transformative event is set to take place from Oct. 10 to Oct. 12: the FutureLAND Conference. This annual gathering of entrepreneurs, creatives, and thought leaders serves as a catalyst for innovation, sparking conversations that drive change and collaboration within the community.
With its compelling theme this year, “FutureLAND: Evolve,” organizers promise to inspire attendees to rethink their approaches to business, creativity, and technology.
“We all understand that the Midwest, and specifically Cleveland, move at a gradual pace when it comes to advancements,” says Charron Leeper, FutureLAND co-founder and creative director, when asked about the origin of this year’s theme.
“It is from this pain point that FutureLAND was birthed. At its core, FutureLAND is a movement and a catalyst to advance Cleveland from operating only in traditional sectors to tracking with the nation’s sophisticated perspectives and technological advancements,” Leeper continues.
Therefore, she says, the theme of “FutureLAND: Evolve” is a clarion call to the city to take action ”
A Vision for the Future
A true public-private partnership with agencies and organizations such as the City of Cleveland, United Black Fund, and JumpStart on board from the onset, The FutureLAND Conference was founded with a clear mission: to create a platform where ideas flourish and connections are made. It recognizes the challenges faced by entrepreneurs in an ever-evolving landscape and aims to provide them with the tools and insights necessary to adapt and thrive.
“The conference was developed to provide a platform to spotlight diverse local-regional talent, amplify entrepreneurship through the lens of technology, innovation, and culture, as well as signal to the globe that Cleveland is a great place to launch startups, own a small business or build a progressive career in technology led industries,” said Teleange' Thomas, founding partner of FutureLAND.
Thomas believes there is a responsibility and opportunity to retain and attract talent to Cleveland and ensure entrepreneurs of all backgrounds whether aspiring, emerging, or established are included in the economic growth of the region as well as have access to resources to help them thrive.
“The co-founding entrepreneurs of FutureLAND understood the challenges firsthand and the assignment, motivating them to
contribute energy, ideas, and swagger to the FutureLAND movement,” she continues.
With that in mind, FutureLAND was designed to bring together a diverse lineup of speakers, workshops, and networking opportunities to empower attendees, encourage collaboration, support the city's entrepreneurial ecosystem, and ignite economic growth.
And, over the last two years, the conference itself has evolved.
“Since our first year, we have expanded our reach by featuring changemakers like Blitz Bazawule, Jeff Charney, Detavio Samuels, Barron Davis, and many others,” says Leeper.
She says FutureLAND has grown its footprint by establishing a relationship with Playhouse Square, the host of both the 2023 and upcoming 2024 conferences.
“Additionally, we’ve forged partnerships with The City Club and others to bring top talent to the city. Our work in ecosystem building has begun, as we are developing strategies to engage the youth and the broader community between conferences.”
As the concept of evolution also reflects the realities of today’s fast-paced world - from advancements in technology to shifts in consumer behavior - businesses must continuously adapt to remain relevant. Therefore, FutureLAND addresses these changes head-on by continuing to offer insights from industry leaders who are redefining their fields.
The first year of FutureLAND brought home none other than Cleveland’s favorite son, famed sports agent Rich Paul to a sold -out crowd.
At the forefront of this year’s conference is an impressive array of speakers, including prominent figures such as Everett Taylor, CEO of Kick Starter, successful app developer Christopher Gray, Ibrahim Hamad, rapper J. Cole’s manager and co-founder of Dreamville Records and Rel Carter, the nephew of rapper JAYZ, formerly an A&R representative at Roc Nation Record and currently the Director of Artist Relations at Equity Distribution just to name a few.
Each speaker brings a unique perspective shaped by their experiences in business, technology, and music.
Taylor, an American business executive who has been the CEO of Kickstarter since September 2022, was CMO of Artsy and founder of ET Enterprises which includes the marketing firm MiliSense, social media software company PopSocial, ArtX, and GrowthHackers. He will provide the keynote at City Club on
Friday, Oct. 9.
Gray, the founder of the scholarship app Scholly, will share his journey from a college student facing financial hurdles to becoming a successful entrepreneur. His story, which includes a notable appearance on Shark Tank, highlights the importance of innovation in education and access to opportunities. His message resonates particularly with young entrepreneurs seeking to make a difference in their communities.
Hamad, co-founder of Dreamville Records, will delve into the music industry’s evolution and the power of collaboration. As J. Cole’s manager, Hamad emphasizes the significance of community in creating impactful art. His insights will inspire attendees to think creatively about how collaboration can lead to innovation in their own fields.
The Cleveland Rising: Homegrown Success Stories is a great addition to this year’s conference. Moderated by Courtney Ottrix, Courtney Covers Cleveland, the panelists include Mz. Crazy Tee, Darryl Brown, Aisha Childers, Mr. Official and Alpesh.
Additionally, East Cleveland native, rapper and filmmaker Ray Jr., will participate in a fireside chat “Big Screen Spotlight: Uncovering the Latest Trends in Film,” with former WKYC reporter Keirra Cotton.
“Speakers and topics for sessions are determined by the conference theme,” Leeper explains.
Beyond keynote speeches, FutureLAND offers a range of interactive workshops designed to facilitate hands-on learning. These sessions cover various topics, from digital marketing strategies to financial literacy and creative collaboration. Attendees will have the chance to engage directly with experts, gaining practical skills they can apply to their own ventures.
Some workshops include “LinkedIn’s Rock Your Profile,” Brand Confidence: Keys to Captivating Visual Identity,” “Banking of the Future: How Tech & AI are Transforming Financial Institutions,” “Every Business Needs a Podcast, and “Culturally Smart AI: Shap-
the Future of Online Business.”
“I’ve enjoyed shaping how that theme is reflected in both the programming and production execution,” says Leeper.
Networking is another critical component of the conference. FutureLAND creates an environment where attendees can connect with like-minded individuals, potential collaborators, and industry experts. With a welcome party at Filter on Thursday, the 3D Art official Afterparty at Idea Center on Friday, the closing night party, “AFUERA After FutureLAND” at Rum Runners and other unique spaces conducive for meeting people such as the Art Gallery in Gund Studio, the conference is designed to foster relationships that extend beyond the event, encouraging ongoing collaboration and support within the Cleveland community.
One of the most compelling aspects of FutureLAND is its commitment to the local community. The conference is more than an event. Again, it’s a movement aimed at uplifting Cleveland’s entrepreneurial spirit. By bringing together all of these diverse voices and ideas, FutureLAND creates a platform for innovation that benefits the entire region.
"Innovation is a cornerstone of the conference," says Leeper. "We strive to foster innovation through the workshops we offer and the speakers we feature. Our goal is to provide valuable resources through knowledge while exposing the Cleveland community to the transformative

power of technology."
The conference also prioritizes inclusivity and representation. By featuring speakers from various backgrounds and industries, FutureLAND ensures that a wide range of perspectives is heard. This commitment to diversity enriches the discussions and fosters a sense of belonging among attendees.
“Diversity provides more solutions,” Leeper adds.
As FutureLAND approaches, excitement is palpable among the community. Attendees are eager to absorb the knowledge and insights shared by the speakers and engage in meaningful conversations. For many, the conference represents a unique opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and explore new possibilities.
Plus, the theme of evolution resonates deeply in a world marked by rapid change. FutureLAND encourages participants to embrace this change, adapt to new circumstances, and harness their creativity to drive progress. It serves as a reminder that innovation is not just about technology. It’s about mindset.
In the coming years, FutureLAND aims to expand its reach and impact by exploring new themes and inviting even more diverse voices to the stage. As the conference continues to grow, it will remain a vital part of Cleveland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, inspiring the next generation of innovators and leaders.
“I see FutureLAND providing jobs, connections, new programming, disbursing dollars into founders’ hands and scaling Black and Brown business specifically but not exclusively,” says Leeper.
She wants FutureLAND to become a national conference, attracting the top talent and businesses to plant roots in Cleveland, and for Cleveland to become the midwest version of silicon valley.
“I hope it continues to inspire people and fulfill its mission,” says Leeper.
The organizers of FutureLAND invite everyone - entrepreneurs, creatives, students, and community members -

to be part of this transformative experience. Whether you’re looking to gain insights from industry leaders, network with fellow innovators, or discover new tools to elevate your business, FutureLAND has something for everyone.
With an outstanding lineup of speakers, interactive workshops, and a vibrant community atmosphere, this year’s conference promises to be an unforgettable experience.
In the words of the organizers, “At FutureLAND, we’re not just envisioning the future; we’re actively shaping it together.”
Attendees will take an inspiring journey into the future of innovation, creativity, and collaboration to evolve and make an impact that resonates far beyond the conference walls.
The FutureLAND Conference is a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and the power of community. As Cleveland continues to grow as a hub for entrepreneurship and creativity, FutureLAND stands at the forefront, fostering connections and inspiring the next wave of leaders. With a commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and impactful discussions, FutureLAND promises to leave a lasting mark on all who attend.
“FutureLAND has been well received, embraced and celebrated. It has sparked new energy that has been needed for decades, into the city,” says Leeper. ●
In contrast to conventional IT, quantum mechanics will play a major supporting role in improving and expanding the building blocks of fundamental quantum computing.
Written by Dr. Randall Sylvertooth
Dr. Randall Sylvertooth, is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated was raised in Cleveland, Ohio and is an alumnus of The University of Cincinnati, University of Virginia, George Mason University and Capital Technology University.
Quantum Information Technology (QIT) is a new field that will change the world of technology just by its ability to use faster computing power and higher memory storage, which lies within electrons in the field of quantum mechanics and its new use in quantum computing.
There is a new job position in demand for the fastchanging future of technology besides Artificial Intelligence (AI) Quantum Information Technology (QIT). This innovative field is the new research and development (R&D) priority for the US which will even use AI to develop and improve this new technology.
The future role of QIT professionals will push the frontiers of science and engineering further into an advanced tech realm. While laying a foundation for the industries of the future, it will also significantly impact our national security.
The US will need a talented, diverse, and adaptable STEM workforce to pursue QIT. However, based on US government data analytics, the supply of such talent currently doesn’t meet the demand from rapidly expanding industrial, national laboratories, government, and academic efforts. This is evident both in the US and internationally.
What is needed are enhanced physics, and AI courses for nearterm career pivots into the QIT field, and for the longer-term approach that will develop talent through education, training, and outreach. QIT professionals will need expertise in quantum computing, physics, artificial intelligence, and information technology.
In response to the need for such tech professionals, the US has produced a Quantum Information Technology Strategic Plan outlining a comprehensive path forward. QIT will be where information is freely stored, processed, and communicated according to the laws of quantum physics. This capability will provide additional freedom that will enable future QIT to perform tasks that are considered ordinary IT.
Currently, the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT) has the desired curriculum in its computer science program. The US will need more students to major in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields and QIT will desperately be needed for the US to keep up with and surpass other countries.
What is specifically required to become a QIT professional while pursuing a career in the STEM field? To answer that, we first need to understand what quantum computing is.
Moore’s Law which postulates that computer chips will get smaller and smaller and more powerful and computing memory have driven computer science to find other ways to make computers faster and have more memory storage.
In quantum computing, there are exceedingly insignificant things which will not behave the same way as big ones. This is when they begin to reveal their true, small, microscopic quantum nature.
Quantum mechanics allows for the calculation of properties and behavior of physical systems as applied to microscopic systems smaller than an atom. It also ties in with the process of estimating the value of a variable or function outside of an observed range. In the case of Moore’s Law, it applies to the exponentially decaying number of electrons per elementary device on a chip.
This revolutionary development, which occurred around 2020, was a “quantum” leap in technology! What that means is that quantum mechanics will now be able to take center stage in innovative tech breakthroughs, and be capable of storing, processing, and communicating information according to its own laws but much faster.
Up to this point, a great deal of information manipulation and
Blacks are in need to fill the estimated 50,000 jobs available in tech today.
modeling has been done digitally, where the data is processed, stored, and communicated as “bits.” The two states of a conventional data bit are written in suggestive quantum notation such as two binary digits |0> and |1>.
Like binary computing that uses 1’s and 0’s, quantum computing can take on many forms:
• two different voltages across a transistor on a chip,
• orientations of a magnetic domain on a disk or tape,
• voltages propagating down a wire,
• light pulses traveling down an optical fiber.
These processes depend upon what is done with the data. At any given time, a quantum bit is always in a state of |0> or |1>, hence the name: qubit.
Ordinarily, bits “get flipped” as data in processes or when memory is rewritten. However, in the quantum analog of a conventional bit, a qubit has more freedom. It can sit anywhere in a two-dimensional space. Imagine it as the surface of a sphere with the spherical form being its general state. That general state would show no dynamic changes in the electronic changing of 0 (off) and 1 (on) as it does in binary programming.
These are the very features that make quantum mechanics so odd and complicated, especially when compared with everyday experiences of the conventional world that are the same as those underpinning its potentially revolutionary applications for IT.
A multi-qubit processor enables massive parallel quantum compu-
ting. Interestingly, interference between all the amplitudes in such a device could, in theory, be arranged to provide solutions to certain tasks that we will never be able to perform with even the best conventional supercomputers in the future.
The irreversibility of quantum measurement enables two message types, such as two people, Alice, and Bob, for example, being able to communicate with guaranteed security. Therefore, understanding this technology and developing appropriately talented individuals in QIT development, the US workforce will be a top priority as part of the National Quantum Initiative. The initiative’s focus is to not only explore and promote Quantum Information Science (QIS) but to accelerate quantum research and development for US economic growth and national security.
Therefore, several actions have been recommended in The Strategic Plan to evaluate the QIT workforce landscape, prepare more people for jobs with quantum technology, enhance STEM education at all levels, accelerate exploration of quantum frontiers, and expand the talent pool for quantum industries of the future.
Beyond the significant technical challenges facing QIT R&D, the shortage of talent constrains US progress. The quantum information technology field is currently creating more job openings than can be filled, with the variety of jobs related to QIT expanding in academia, industry, national laboratories, and government.
This is necessitating new and sustained workforce training efforts that are critical for creating, growing, and maintaining American leadership in QIT. Fortunately, the prerequisite skills are widely applicable and in high demand. Therefore, investments that grow the professional expertise needed for QIT R&D will pay great dividends in many sectors of our economy now and into the near future.
The current US Presidential Science Advisor, Dr. Eric Lander, under President Biden’s administration, spoke about the importance of growing America’s high-tech workforce by “Focusing on the hardest, most important problems; making and investing in the right technical bets; and building and growing the scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs of tomorrow. This can all be accomplished in our unique American model of fair and free-market competition and cooperation. This is how the US will continue to lead.”
“I want what I want, when I want it.” That vintage adage has taken on a whole new level of magnitude in today’s world.
Written by DAVID CHRISTEL
People today are demanding INSTANT input and rapid response to anything that’s happening, whether it’s local or global. Everything tech has helped facilitate this push for the instantaneous. The new phrase is “I want what I want — now!”
People are no longer willing to patiently wait for something to happen, to get what they desire, or satisfy their agenda. They want a quick response, or they’re quick to lose interest. That now includes texting someone because phone calls take too long, and they also require exercising interpersonal communication skills.
75% of millennials and Gen Z prefer to text rather than call. 68% of consumers text more than they talk on their smartphones.
33% of adult Americans prefer texting to other means of communication.
35% of 13-17-year-olds prefer texting with friends over other forms of communication.
What research is showing is that people of all ages are opting to forego connecting with others via phone or in person because it requires more effort. Behind that is a desire to avoid any emotional involvement. What texting allows is impersonal interaction, and the time spent on “communicating” is much shorter and more concise.
In a 2020 study on instant gratification, published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology, it was discovered that “people are … even more impatient when they actually must wait to receive a larger reward.” The deduction was that participants preferred an immediate smaller payoff than a larger payoff if they had to wait for it.
Another survey showed that the average person grows frustrated after waiting 16 seconds for a webpage to load and 25 seconds for a traffic signal to change. What has fed into this lack of patience is technology and its ability to provide almost instantaneous data, feedback, and endless distractions and entertainment.
Most of what we deal with communication-wise via technology is devoid of emotional and vocal nuance, thereby flattening our interactions. And the more we use it, the more we become inured to monotone communication.
In direct contrast to that is the non-stop stimulation available 24/7 that keeps us wanting more and at an ever-higher intensity. What that’s created is a roller coaster scenario that, just like an addiction, keeps us trapped in a cycle of seeking highs and combatting lows.
This is having a significant negative impact on our IQs as we’re not interested in spending the time and effort required to delve deeper into a topic of interest. Instead, people of all ages are opting to be
entertained.
The average time spent on a website is only 53 seconds.
The time teens spend on social media apps YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, and others is nearly five hours per day.
Consumers spend almost eight hours per day accessing digital media and entertainment channels.
The result of our obsession with tech is found in a 2023 Forbes article where they reported that IQ scores are falling in three areas: logic/vocabulary (verbal reasoning), visual problem solving/ analogies (matrix reasoning), and computational/mathematic abilities (letter and number series). One of the reasons for this is that we have access to information about any topic at our fingertips via our tech devices. So, the need to retain information is much reduced.
Secondly, there is such an extraordinary amount of information available that it’s quite challenging to weed out mis- and disinformation. So, instead of reading full articles, we read headlines and make inferences. In tandem with this, we’ve also developed a greater reliance on “authority figures” rather than using our critical thinking skills to assess information and constructively problem-solve.
What is also waning is emotional intelligence (EQ). Researchers are finding that people, because of their short attention spans and impatience, are making quick decisions not based on facts and possible consequences. Instead, they’re projecting onto reallife situations the same speed they’re used to working with on their tech devices. Basically, they’re leapfrogging over decisionmaking steps out of impatience, boredom, irritation, and/or impulsiveness in order to obtain a quick fix.
The expectation is that they’ll arrive at the right
solution, and it’ll be okay to take action. The results show otherwise, which is further exacerbating people’s frustration, anger, depression, and impatience all of which cause them to make additional poor choices.
This trend is showing up in another facet of American life: a significant decline in empathy and a steep rise in narcissism. Researchers are finding that as our communication skills erode, our empathy is diminishing. What’s been discovered is that our heavy dependence on technology is actually creating greater distance and division between us rather than producing deeper connections and bringing us together.
Computers and our smartphones have become the conduit by which so much of our communication is conducted. We use texting to convey our thoughts and feelings, yet what is missing is the most important component: emotional nuance.
Words, by themselves only provide 7% of the meaning in our communication. The tone of what we’re saying provides 38% and body language provides 55%. Without those two components, our texts and emails leave the door wide open to all sorts of interpretation and misunderstanding.
Though we have almost one million words in the English language, the average adult English speaker knows around 15,000 words and only uses about 1,500 unique words on a daily basis. Additionally, people only access 2.67% to 3.35% of their vocabulary. The reasons why are interesting.
Habit and familiarity – we stick to words and phrases we’re comfortable with.
On average, Americans spend around four hours and 37 minutes on their phones each day, which is more than double the two hours recommended by health experts. This amounts to about 70 days per year spent looking at a phone, or one day per week and six days per month.
Context and audience – we often adjust our communication depending on who we’re talking to and why.
Cognitive load – it’s easier to not strain our brain.
Lack of exposure – the default communication with peers tends to lower the bar rather than raise it.
Educational and social factors – our education and social circles impact our language use and communication style.
The upshot is that everything covered so far factors into how and why so many in society communicate the way they do. Combined with the intense drive for instant gratification, a large segment of society has created a communication approach in which they care little about others’ feelings, they aren’t worried about consequences, and they say and do whatever they want no matter how crude, hurtful, misdirected, and/or incorrect.
And all of this “communication” can be done anonymously with avatars, aliases, and alter egos. The new term for this online anonymity is “pseudonymity”: using aliases or fictitious names to protect one’s digital identity and privacy in order to
ing ourselves and missing out on the important things in life. To release ourselves from this type of death trap, there are several things we can do.
Avoid the urgency trap – pause, breathe, and assess rather than make snap decisions.
Engage in reflective thinking – take thoughtful pauses throughout the day to reflect on actions, events, and feelings.
Practice active listening – stay present, don’t multitask, reflect back on what’s being heard, and avoid phone or computer usage while engaging in conversation.
Learn how to effectively communicate – speak succinctly, constructively, and logically; learn to listen, listen to learn.
Solve problems systematically – take small steps, consider multiple perspectives and consequences; think win-win.
Embrace curiosity – reawaken your innate curiosity by researching what truly interests you and feeds your soul.
Become a lifelong learner – approach life as an extended voyage of discovery.
Practice critical thinking exercises –crossword puzzles, board games, riddles, logical problem-solving.
Practice self-compassion – nurture your inner being and express your authentic self.
Promote compassion – put yourself in the other person’s shoes, support and nurture others; become a person of service.
Instant gratification only feeds our need for short-term gain and pleasure and is completely self-serving. By investing so heavily in our devices, our lives are becoming one-dimensional and disconnected. Life has so much more to offer and so do we. Why? Because we’re each a unique masterpiece. True satisfaction and fulfillment are derived from being our authentic selves, which means being out in the world interacting with people, developing meaningful relationships, and exploring life which helps us to know ourselves.
The greatest gift we can give ourselves and others is the truest essence of who we are. It’s not about instant gratification, but quality of life. Go for it! ●
The general consensus among men is that beautiful women come with more baggage and trauma that the average women. However women, on average, experience three times more PTSD than men when it comes to life and relationships.
BY BOLLING SMITH
The dream for a man when looking for his queen is to meet an amazing looking woman who has the ability to care for him the way his mother does. Men do not require much, but physical attributes dominate his desires. What men are finding when looking for a woman with the physical appearance of a 10 is that they often come with qualities that are less than attractive. Most men are finding that if a woman has a high level of attraction, she also comes with a high level of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
PTSD is a mental health condition that can develop after someone experiences or witnesses a traumatic event. Symptoms include:
Negative thoughts and emotions: Such as fear, anger, guilt, or shame, or negative thoughts about oneself or the world
Re-experiencing the event: Such as flashbacks, nightmares, or frightening thoughts
Avoidance: Such as staying away from places, events, or objects that remind the person of the trauma
Arousal and reactivity: Such as feeling irritable, taking risks, or acting self-destructive.
While the term is typically used for soldiers coming back from combat, it is now also being used to define anyone with some level of long-term, catastrophic turmoil. Being in a mentally or physically abusive relationship can be considered in the category of having PTSD.
So while it might appear that physically attractive women seem to suffer more from
PTSD than average looking women, estimates from community studies suggest that women experience PTSD at two to three times the rate that men do.
About 8 of every 100 women (or 8%) and 4 of every 100 men (or 4%) will have PTSD at some point in their life. This is in part due to the types of traumatic events that women are more likely to experience such as sexual assault compared to men.
If left untreated PTSD can create issues in someone’s daily life. Women with PTSD may be more likely to be easily startled. Have more trouble feeling emotions or feel numb. Avoid things that remind them of the trauma.
Sometimes having PTSD will keep a woman from the ability to move on the past due to the fact that they continue to
relive the trauma on a daily basis. They also will feel uncomfortable if they attempt to cure themselves of the pain on there own.
Seeking professional help is always recommended for anyone who struggles with moving on from a past situation or traumatic lifestyle.
There are many ways to cope with mental trauma, including:
Self-care: Maintain a healthy diet, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly. You can also try meditation, deep breathing, or spending time in nature.
Connect with others: Talk to trusted friends and family, or join a support group for trauma survivors. You can also try volunteering to help others and feel a sense of purpose.
Get back to routine: Try to do the things you normally do, even if you don't feel like it.
Avoid unhealthy coping mechanisms: Don't isolate yourself, sleep excessively, or use substances to escape.
Seek professional help: A mental health professional can help you learn to manage your symptoms and cope with the
effects of trauma. They can also help treat other problems that may arise, such as depression or anxiety.
Be patient: Most people recover from traumatic stress on their own over time. It can take a few days, weeks, or even months to feel better.
So while men assume that tens have more trauma than everyone else, they need to pay attention to whomever they are dating, because anyone can suffer from a long-term bad relationship.
If you find yourself dating a woman who has suffered from trauma or currently exibits the effects of PTSD are some things that you can do.
Practice mindfulness and meditation. Help them engage in regular exercise and movement, and build healthy relationships, you can help them take important steps towards letting go of trauma and moving forward with their life.
Become a supportive partner for the woman you are dating to help them heel from the trauma they have experienced. If not, you both will begin to suffer from the signs of living with PTSD. ●
Getting a business loan to start a business is almost impossible for Blacks. Gloria Ware, President of Get The Bag, advises people how to use their salary to create the own financing.
Hackers are attacking the worlds online infrastructure.

Blacks, the ability to secure bank financing for a business is almost impossible. May feel like you almost must show that you do not need the money, to get the funds needed to start a business.
For Gloria Ware, owner of Get the Bag, the option to start a business means more than getting capital.
“There are many forms of capital. There is financial capital which is funding which we traditionally think of.” Ware continued, “Social capital, which is kind of like developing your network that is around you, and then customer capital very important in starting a business and then.”
Ware started her business after spending a lengthy career working for companies like JP Morgan Chase, and PNC Bank, and organizations like Jumpstart. The mission of Get the Bag is to help women entrepreneurs find and secure the right financing to start and maintain their businesses.
But Ware understands the difficulty of getting a bank loan, so she helps her clients use their day jobs to finance their dreams.
“I have always been good at saving,” Ware said. “I can remember being a kid and saving my money to use it in the future. The same principles are true as an adult.”
Sometimes using the day job is the only option for Blacks to begin their business. Because Blacks often own fewer homes, or items that can be attached as collateral, they often do not qualify for a business loan.
veryone has dreamed of an opportunity to turn an idea into a business. The thought of changing the world, and your life by building a thriving business is something that comes across anyone who is looking to advance their bottom line. But for Blacks, the idea of starting a business quickly leads to finding the funding to begin. Finding meaningful funding for a business is hard. For
Low-wealth and minority business owners have fewer collateral options to secure loans. Underwriting criteria are more stringent for young, often minority-owned, businesses. Minority-owned businesses have fewer banking relationships. Incentives for the loans minority borrowers need are too low.
Good credit is often a problem for Blacks who might struggle to understand their relationship with their credit rating and miss critical payments. Those missed payments will reduce their ability to obtain financing.
Banks require that you have good to excellent credit (score of 690 or higher), strong finances, and at least two years in business to qualify for a loan. They will require collateral and a personal guarantee as well.
“If you have good credit, you can get a personal loan, or you can use the equity in your home if you own a home.” Ware said.
Seventy-eight percent of business owners use their resources to start their businesses. Ware reminds me that most banks are going to want to see that any business owner who is serious about starting a business has some of their own capital invested in themselves.
“You are never going to get 100% financing to start a business.” Ware also said, “You are going to have to invest in yourself and you must have done something on your own in order to prove to a bank
Ware advises her clients to get smart about their pay.
“When we are at work, we need to take more advantage of our opportunities to increase our pay.” Ware continues, “We need to work harder. Get the bonus pay that is available. Take the overtime option if you can. We need to understand that our day jobs are the key to being able to finance our goals.”
“We must be mindful of getting enough rest when we work a full-time job and then have a home business. Nights and weekends might mean telling people no. No, you cannot come out tonight. No that you are not going to send money to go on a trip. If success is going to happen people will have to make real sacrifices in order to see their dreams come true,” Ware said.
can affect the pay increase include:
• Industry: The industry you are in can affect your pay increase.
• Company profitability: The profitability of the company you are switching to can affect your pay increase.
• Experience and seniority: Your level of experience and seniority can affect your pay increase.
• Job performance: Your job performance can affect your pay increase.
• Market trends: Market trends can affect your pay increase.
• Cost of living adjustments: Cost of living adjustments can affect your pay increase.
• Company policies: Company policies can affect your pay increase.
Ware also wants to warn people about managing the time they spend working their day jobs and businesses while off. She prepares people that they will have to make a sacrifice if they are
going to work a 9 to 5 and start a business at home as well.
“We must be mindful of getting enough rest when we work a full-time job and then have a home business. Nights and weekends might mean telling people no. No, you cannot come out tonight. No you are not going to send money to go on a trip. If success is going to happen people will have to make real sacrifices to see their dreams come true,” Ware said.
War warns that family is going to want you to come to things. Friends are going to challenge you to continue to do the same things you were doing before you started your business.
