CAREER SERVICES Career Planning 101 Embry-Riddle’s industry reputation attracts employers around the globe seeking the specialized skills they know they’ll find in our students and graduates. How can your Eagle leverage the tools offered through the Career Services Office (CSO) to land their dream job? Mapping the process right from the start will set your student on the right path, so offer encouragement every step of the way:
Freshman year: Information gathering is key. Your Eagle will want to visit the CSO and get to know the Program Manager for their major, and attend company information sessions as well as the semi-annual Career Expo. While it may be too early to apply for jobs or internships, it’s never too early to begin to build a network of connections and take advantage of opportunities to develop and enhance career readiness skills necessary for workplace success.
Sophomore year: Building a strong
can demonstrate skills that look great on a resume, such as team work and collaboration, or leadership and professionalism.
Junior year: Cooperative education (co-op) and internships offer real-world experience plus college credit. Visiting the CSO to learn about the co-ops and internships that are available is the place to start. Your student will gain more than experience — they’ll network with professionals and learn about the global industry they seek to serve.
Senior year: Your Eagle should be well on
the path to their goals having devoted time and energy to the job search all along the way. Connect with the CSO for resume review, mock interviews, and advice on negotiation. Career development doesn’t stop at graduation. Encourage your Eagle to stay in touch with faculty, get involved with the Alumni Network, and explore professional development opportunities to keep current with industry.
