WELCOME TO LMU
Dear Parents and Families, Welcome to Loyola Marymount University! Steeped in great history, both our Jesuit and Marymount traditions set the foundation upon which we continue to build and grow. We hope that you see firsthand the care that we take to create an environment of academic, personal, spiritual, and professional growth. At LMU, your student will be challenged to grow by their interactions in the classroom, co-curricular experiences, and their fellow classmates. We encourage you to empower your student to embrace the challenges they will undoubtedly face during their college years. The best way for you to help your student is to encourage them to use all the resources available to them at LMU, be involved on campus, and use every opportunity to interact with faculty and staff to make their college experience all they imagine it to be.

Academic Resource Center The Academic Resource Center (ARC) provides academic support for all degree-seeking students. The cost of tuition covers all ARC services including course and language tutoring for gateway courses in subjects including, but not limited to, economics, mathematics, chemistry, psychology, and modern languages as well as one-on-one writing consultations for all subjects. In addition, students interested in how to best utilize academic planning tools or in need of assistance with general academic advising questions can meet with an ARC University Advisor.
The ARC also supports the campus through programs such as the First To Go program for first-generation college students, and the LMU Common Book program, in collaboration with the William H. Hannon Library. The Academic Resource Center 310.338.2847 arc@lmu.edu
First To Go The First To Go Program is a structured support system that provides personalized tools and resources for students who identify as “first generation” (i.e., neither parent has earned a bachelor’s degree in the U.S.). The community offers students valuable opportunities for their academic, professional, and personal growth and connects participants of all years and majors to a network of mentors drawn from LMU faculty, staff, alumni, and peers who are or were first-generation college students themselves. Please email firsttogo@lmu.edu, call 310.338.7677 or visit the website for more information.

Student Experience At LMU, we believe education happens in all areas of campus life, both inside and outside the classroom. When it comes to life outside the classroom, Student Affairs has created a framework to guide students’ experiences in meaningful ways — we call this the Student EXP (short for the Student Experience). The Student EXP is LMU’s dynamic co-curricular pathway to explore, grow, and learn outside the classroom. At its core are Five Pillars, and each represents a habit, a value, or an experience we think integral to developing an LMU Lion. Information on the Student EXP and much more can be found on the Student EXP website, an online hub for finding details about events and programs, service opportunities, recreation and fitness activities, support and more. Students can also use LEO to find events, join clubs and organizations, receive news updates, and take advantage of life as a Lion.

The Five Pillars of the LMU Student EXPerience: 1. Integrate Mind, Body, and Spirit 2. Commit to Service and Justice 3. Become a Global Citizen 4. Practice Ignatian Values 5. Live a Life of Purpose
collegiateparent.com/school/loyola-marymount-university
1. Integrate Mind, Body and Spirit Demonstrate transformative growth and develop as whole persons through the integration of mind, body, and spirit.
2. Commit to Service and Justice Be socially responsible citizens committed to building a more just world
3. Become a Global Citizen Value the diversity of the human experience and commit to the practice of interculturalism to make meaningful contributions as citizens of the global community.
4. Practice Ignatian Values Make decisions congruent with their personal beliefs, values, and faith through continuous reflection and discernment.
5. Live a Life of Purpose Lead a life where their greatest passion meets the world’s greatest need. In the belief that the glory of God is a human being fully alive and grounded in both Jesuit and Marymount traditions, the Division of Student Affairs supports the LMU mission through programs and services designed to advance student learning.
ASLMU The Associated Students of Loyola Marymount University (ASLMU) is our undergraduate student government. We are a dedicated team that acts as an advocate for student concerns, a liaison between students and the administration, and the major programmer for LMU’s coolest events. First-year students can get involved as early as the first few weeks through ASLMU as a committee member, a staff member, or a volunteer. Encourage your student to visit the ASLMU office on the first floor of the Malone Building.
Sorority and Fraternity Life There are many ways to get involved at LMU. Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL) might be right for your student. LMU Sorority and Fraternity members perform higher academically, provide over 28,000 hours of community service, and raised over $200,000 for local and national nonprofits over the last two years. With 20 registered chapters to choose from, your student can find the right fit. Firstyear students are eligible to join as early as spring semester if they have at least a 2.5 GPA and 12 hours of college credit. Firsttime spring first-year and spring transfer students are also eligible to join.
Ignatian Leadership Institute The Ignatian Leadership Institute (ILI) offers students the ability to explore leadership through different perspectives, including individual, group, community, and Ignatian values. Three different oneunit classes are offered during both the fall and spring semesters. The ILI Leadership Seminars are listed in PROWL as EDLA 489, EDLA 490, EDLA 491. The courses are small seminar style experiences, can be taken in any order, and are open for all LMU undergraduate students. As students in the ILI explore the Social Change Model of Leadership Development (along with other leadership concepts such as servant leadership, Ignatian leadership, and a wide range of current social topics and issues), they grow in their ability to lead and make positive change in the world. Visit PROWL to register for a Leadership Seminar or email leadership@lmu.edu for more information. For more information and to learn how to join an existing organization, your student can stop by the Student Leadership and Development on the first floor of Malone or log into LEO. LMU OneCard At LMU, the OneCard is not just our students’ campus I.D. This innovative, multipurpose card contains technology that makes life easier by providing quick access to funds at any LMU dining locations and shops on campus. A student’s LMU OneCard is also used to check in at various on-campus events, check out resources from the library, access the Burns Recreation Center, and obtain tickets for LMU Athletics events. For students who live on campus, the OneCard serves as their key card to their residence hall and room (coded with a personal door security PIN to ensure safety). With the LMU OneCard, students do not need to carry cash as they move around campus. Instead, the OneCard is used to access students’ applicable LION or S-Dollar “Meal Plan” funds at on-campus dining locations by simply tapping it at the register. It is important to use these funds before opting into any supplemental
24
payment methods because Meal Plan funds expire on July 31 of each year. The OneCard also contains a “Flexi-Dollar” account that allows students to make other purchases at places such as residence hall laundry facilities, the campus bookstore, the mail center, campus printing of materials for class, and even at select off-campus merchants. Running low on Flexi-Dollars? By going to the LMU One Card Office website, students (or their parents, family, or friends) may add more funds remotely using a Discover/ MasterCard/VISA credit card. More sites on campus are now “cashless,” but cash can be converted into Flexi-Dollars at one of our seven Account Management Centers (A.M.C.) located throughout campus (these machines accept cash but do not dispense cash). Funds deposited either online or at an A.M.C. will be available immediately. LMU OneCard Office 310.338.2735 onecard@lmu.edu
LMU Campus Bookstore LMU Campus Store, located in the lower level of the Von der Ahe building, is a onestop shop for textbooks, school supplies, snacks, and sundries. SHS offers a wide range of services to meet students’ health care needs including treatment for illnesses and injuries, dermatological care, preventive care, prescriptions, vaccinations, lab work, X-rays, and allergy injections. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. with extended hours on Wednesdays until 7 p.m. during the academic year.
Accreditation SHS is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and is staffed by highly trained and experienced health care providers.

by accessing the MyHealth Portal, calling 310.338.2881, or stopping in to schedule an appointment at the front desk. In order to avoid scheduling errors or conflicts, as well as for privacy reasons, we require students to make their own appointments.
Health-Related Charges There is no charge for undergraduate students to be seen by a member of SHS staff; however, graduate students are charged a $50.00 access fee per semester if they visit SHS. Additional charges may be incurred by all students if they require medications, procedures, x-rays, and/or lab work during the course of their visit. These charges are posted directly to the student account. SHS does not bill insurance carriers directly and, therefore, we do not require proof of health insurance at the time of a student’s visit. However, we can provide a detailed billing statement which may be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement of health charges.
