Fragments Cashmere and chiffon. Rigor and sentiment. They fragment, fly away, dance from catwalk to catwalk, from New York to Milan, the new furor of the season, contrasting, exhilarated in their diversities, composing a kaleidoscope image, unsettling. Exciting in their complexity, just as the reality of contemporary living is complex and articulated, where every day is synonymous of change, flowing, not always like a calm river. A romantic vein stems from it, very subtle, almost imperceptible, yet, its tuberose scent remains in the air. Victorian, like the Brontë sisters, demure and complacent to literary and artistic allusions, but with a libertine soul, like a chatelaine, willing to stand up for herself and for her hero. Cheerful and fun, ready to break the rules, choosing a paradox. “The heart has its reasons, which reason knows nothing of” (Blaise Pascal). Such as the possible union between creativity and finance, a popular and pursued destination.

Cachemire e chiffon. Rigore e sentimento. Si frammentano, volano, danzano di passerella in passerella da New York a Milano, le nuove emozioni di stagione si contraddicono, si esaltano per le loro diversità, componendo un’immagine da caleidoscopio, spiazzante.

Esaltante per la complessità, come è complessa ed articolata la realtà del vivere contemporaneo, dove ogni giorno è sinonimo di cambiamento, uno scorrere, non sempre, come un fiume tranquillo. Se ne va una vena romantica, molto sottile, quasi impercettibile, eppure il suo profumo alla tuberosa si sente nell’aria. Vittoriana, alle sorelle Brontë, pudica e compiacente alle citazioni letterarie ed artistiche, ma libertina nell’anima, come una castellana, disposta a battersi per se stessa e per il suo eroe. Allegra e divertita, pronta a rompere le regole, scegliendo il paradosso. “Il cuore ha le sue ragioni, che la ragione non conosce” (Blaise Pascal). Come ad esempio il possibile connubio fra creatività e finanza, meta ambita e inseguita.

the art of colour

All art is transcendent. The fashion world is influenced by, and influences, the aesthetics of photography and of cinema, sensations triggered when listening to a melody translate into colours onto a canvas, and the charm of the most sought-after architectures have inspired designers throughout countless generations. To explore this endless cycle of influences and inspirations is the exhibition, Missoni Art Colour, which arrives at the Fashion and Textile Museum of London on May 6th, for the first time overseas, after a one year stay at the MA*GA (Museum of Gallarate in Varese), the city where the Maison was founded in 1953. The event aims at highlighting the exclusive, very close relationship that binds the main artistic currents of twentieth century Europe with the creations of the distinctive tastes of Ottavio and Rosita Missoni. A union that has allowed for the Maison to reach very high international recognition based on shapes, materials, and colours. These are the protagonists of the exhibition that, in addition to the large installation of original garments directly from the archives of the Maison, includes a wide selection of works by some of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, among them are Lucio Fontana, Sonia Deleunay, and Gino Severini. To conclude the exhibition are the testimonies of the relationship between art and Missoni’s ideas: sketches, studies on colour, and complex tapestries guide visitors through what is almost a simulated creative process, a dialogue between forms of art that cannot but enrich anyone who lives it in the first person.

Therefore, Missoni Art Colour presents itself as a unique experience, a celebration of the art and the genius of one of the greatest Maisons that make the Made in Italy brand a product of excellence worldwide.

Il mondo della moda è influenzato e influenza l’estetica di fotografia e cinema, le sensazioni scaturite dall’ascolto di una melodia si traducono in colori su una tela e il fascino delle architetture più ricercate ispira gli stilisti da infinite generazioni. Ad esplorare questo infinito ciclo di influenze e ispirazioni arriva la mostra Missoni Art Colour, che il 6 maggio giunge al Fashion and Textile Museum di Londra, per la prima volta all’estero dopo una permanenza lunga un anno al museo MA*GA di Gallarate (VA), città in cui la maison fu fondata nel 1953. L’evento mira a mettere in luce l’esclusivo, strettissimo legame che unisce le principali correnti artistiche del XX secolo europeo alle creazioni dal distintivo gusto estetico di Ottavio e Rosita Missoni; un connubio che ha permesso alla casa di moda di raggiungere un’altissima riconoscibilità internazionale basata su forme, materie e colori. Sono questi i protagonisti della mostra che, oltre alla grande installazione di abiti originali provenienti direttamente dall’archivio della maison, include un’ampia selezione di opere di alcuni fra i più influenti artisti del Novecento, fra tutti Lucio Fontana, Sonia Deleunay e Gino Severini. A concludere il percorso espositivo sono le testimonianze della relazione fra l’arte e il pensiero di Missoni: bozzetti, studi sul colore e complessi arazzi guidano il visitatore attraverso quello che è quasi un processo creativo simulato, un dialogo fra forme d’arte che non può che arricchire chiunque lo viva in prima persona. Missoni Art Colour si pone quindi come un’esperienza unica, una celebrazione dell’arte e del genio di una delle maison che rendono grande il Made in Italy nel mondo.

A great exhibition on Helmut Newton will take place at Casa dei Tre Oci in Venice, with more than 200 images from his books, White Women, Sleepless Nights, and Big Nudes.

What is incredible about Helmut Newton, despite the great number of exhibitions of his works one may have seen, is that he never bores us or disappoints our expectations.

His photos are timeless, always modern, and a source of inspiration for artists, photographers, and the creative world, in general. This exhibition collects the images from his first three books from the late 1970s, which are still considered a cult for all those who are interested in fashion photography as an art medium. In selecting his photos, Newton places, alongside one another and in sequence, those commissioned by clients with those shot for himself, creating a narration where a search for style, and the discovery of an elegant gesture, depicts a second reality, one that must be interpreted by those viewing his works. When we speak of his photos, we often refer to sexappeal and the sensual women he portrays. However, he is not merely this. In fact, he shows us a reality that we must try to decipher ourselves and that is seldom what it seems. Standing before one of his images is a unique experience that somehow makes us aware of his artistic greatness. This is what I experienced the first time, at the age of 18, and still do today, whenever I find myself admiring his works and which, therefore, makes me hope that others may experience the same emotions that have been accompanying me for over twenty years. Il fatto incredibile che accade con Helmut Newton è che, nonostante il numero imprecisato di sue mostre che si sono visitate, non ci si annoia mai e lui non delude mai le aspettative. I suoi scatti sono senza tempo, sempre moderni e sempre fonte di ispirazione per artisti, fotografi e creativi in generale. In questo caso la mostra raccoglie le immagini dai primi tre libri del grande fotografo alla fine degli anni ’70 che vengono oggi considerati leggendari e sono oggetti culto per tutti coloro che siano interessati alla fotografia di moda come mezzo alla pari dell’arte con la A maiuscola. Nel selezionare le fotografie, Newton mette in sequenza, l’uno accanto all’altro, gli scatti compiuti per committenza con quelli realizzati liberamente per se stesso, costruendo una narrazione in cui la ricerca dello stile e la scoperta del gesto elegante mostrano un seconda realtà che deve essere interpretata dal fruitore dell’opera d’arte. Quando si parla della produzione di Helmut Newton spesso si fa riferimento a lui come al fotografo del sex-appeal, della donna sexy e sensuale, ma egli non è solo questo, infatti ci mostra una realtà che sta a noi decifrare e che spesso non è così come appare. Trovarsi davanti ad una sua immagine è un’esperienza unica che in qualche modo ci dà la sensazione della sua statura artistica. Così successe a me la prima volta a 18 anni e ancora mi accade ogni volta che mi trovo al suo cospetto; l’augurio per gli spettatori è quello di provare le stesse emozioni che mi accompagnano da ben più di vent’anni. This is the first time that Barbie receives a formal invitation to be the protagonist of a Parisian museum, and she receives it with great class. At the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the great dream of every little girl takes place.

Barbie isn’t simply a toy but an active part of every child since the end of the 1950s, and she’s been part of the female role model in the western world for more than fifty years. What is interesting is that two separate exhibitions linked to the world of children and children’s fashion are taking place in two different places across the globe: “Fairy Tales” at FIT in New York and “Barbie” in Paris. 700 Barbies will be displayed across 1500 square meters for the greatest retrospective on the doll that has been an example of elegance for almost sixty years. On display is the first Barbie from 1959 Barbie, along with Hostess Barbie, Working Girl Barbie, and Astronaut Barbie, just to name a few and, last but not least, Presidential Candidate Barbie. All this without, however, forgetting the real-life designers who dressed her and whose creations will also be on display: Oscar de la Renta and Diane von Furstenberg, as well as Dior and Karl Lagerfeld. Yes, Barbie is definitely a piece of our culture. A piece that had often been looked down upon by intellectuals who were forced to change their minds when they realized that this toy had formed whole generations. Mattel was the first to understand that a doll could have the appearance of an adult, yet, still be the projection of a child’s dreams. Long live the Queen of Dolls.

Questa è la prima volta che Barbie riceve un invito formale ad entrare come protagonista in un museo parigino e lo fa in grande stile: al Musée des Arts Décoratifs si svolge la mostra sul sogno di ogni bambina. Barbie non è semplicemente un giocattolo ma un elemento attivo della vita di ogni piccola sin dalla fine degli anni cinquanta ed è stata parte della definizione del ruolo della donna nel mondo occidentale per più di cinquant’anni. Trovo interessante che nella stessa stagione abbiano luogo, in due luoghi lontani del globo, due mostre relative alla moda e al mondo dei bambini: al FIT di New York quella sulle favole e a Parigi quella sul giocattolo femminile par excellence. 700 Barbie prenderanno posto all’interno di 1500 metri quadrati espositivi per la più grande retrospettiva su questa bambola che ha rappresentato un esempio di eleganza per quasi sessant’anni. Si parte dalla prima Barbie del 1959, per passare alla hostess, poi quella in carriera, l’astronauta fino alla Barbie Candidata Presidenziale del 2000. Tutto questo senza dimenticare tutti gli stilisti (veri) che l’hanno vestita e le cui creazioni saranno in mostra: da Oscar de la Renta a Diane Von Furstenberg, dalla Barbie Dior a Karl Lagerfeld. Ebbene sì: Barbie è un pezzo della nostra cultura, un pezzo spesso guardato con sufficienza dagli intellettuali che si sono dovuti ricredere quando hanno capito che intere generazioni sono state formate su questo prodotto della Mattel che capì prima di chiunque altro che la bambola poteva non avere solo le sembianze di un infante ma poteva essere anche la proiezione dei sogni adulti di ogni bambina. It is extremely difficult to define Issey Miyake: a visionary designer with almost lunar inspirations, a magician of the pleats, the only one after Fortuny to seduce us with them, a designer of many cultural intricacies. These are just some of many fitting definitions: but we can say, without a shadow of doubt, that Miyake has been the pleating master for the last forty years. His clothes move along the body and change shape from two-dimensional to three-dimensional, according to the movements of the wearer, transforming from “trivial” rectangles into clothes that have made women all over the world dream for over four decades. His creations are on display at the National Art Center in Tokyo in his homeland, the starting point of all his research on the female body. The exhibition is an unprecedented event because it brings together a career of over 45 years by telling, first and foremost, a story, as Miyake has always done in his catwalk shows, and then by allowing us to fully understand his boundless talent. The designer’s approach is one of the most important and interesting sides of a career that allowed him to explore for a lifetime the possibilities of fashion with a strength unknown to most of his colleagues. The exhibition allows visitors to expand the boundaries of their thoughts and stimulates their creativity, allowing everyone, regardless of age and class, to have an experience connected with the true joy of creation. Definire Issey Miyake è estremamente difficile: lo stilista visionario, quello dalle ispirazioni quasi lunari, il mago del plissé, l’unico dopo Fortuny a farci sognare con le sue pieghe, lo stilista degli intrecci culturali. Queste sono poche definizioni tutte calzanti ma possiamo dire, senza ombra di dubbio alcuno, che Miyake è il mago del plissé degli ultimi quarant’anni. I suoi abiti si muovono insieme al corpo e cambiano di forma in base ai movimenti di chi li indossa, da bidimensionali a tridimensionali, da “banali” rettangoli a cappe che fanno sognare le donne di tutto il mondo da quattro decenni. Le sue creazioni sono esposte al National Art Center di Tokyo, nella sua patria, nel luogo che è la base di partenza di tutto il suo studio sulla donna e il suo corpo. La mostra è un evento senza precedenti perché mette insieme 45 anni di carriera raccontandoci innanzitutto una storia come ha sempre fatto nelle sue sfilate e poi permettendoci di comprendere appieno il suo talento sconfinato.

L’approccio di Miyake è uno dei lati più importanti ed interessanti della sua carriera, che gli ha permesso per tutta la vita di esplorare le possibilità della moda con una forza sconosciuta alla maggior parte dei suoi colleghi. La mostra permette ai visitatori di espandere i confini dei loro pensieri e stimolare la loro creatività, permettendo a tutti (indipendentemente da età e ceto sociale) di fare un’esperienza che ha a che fare con la vera gioia della creazione. Volumes expand to absurdity - defining figures with rather indefinable contours - or elongate to outline female silhouettes, making sensuality an infallible weapon. Overlays, deconstructions, patchwork… shopping as a millionaire.

More than 70 runway shows and almost 100 presentations introduced during the last fashion week in Milan, for a schedule full of events, which are mappable via web, in streaming on the website of the Camera della Moda (Chamber of Fashion), and among the trending topics of all major social networks.

Più di 70 sfilate e quasi 100 presentazioni inanellatesi nel corso dell’ultima fashion week milanese, per un calendario fitto di appuntamenti mappabili via web, in streaming sul sito della Camera della Moda e fra i trending topic dei principali social network.

DONDUP Alongside the giants of the Made In Italy mark, there were many reconfirmed as such. One among these is Dondup, a brand created in 1999, in the Marche region, through the union between Massimo Berlino and Manuela Mariotti, whose women, authentic clubbermannequins, look at past precursors to change the present, mixing menswear and pure femininity. With a radical aesthetic and an insurgent air, they start with the iconic pieces of a youthful rebellion - leather biker jackets with piercing details, destroyed denim with diamond-studded chains, military parkas trimmed with ostrich feathers - glorifying the punk subculture during the forty-year anniversary of this movement, among long impalpable dresses in voile and knits in silver lurex or ballerina tutus.

Accanto ai colossi del Made In Italy numerose riconferme: è il caso di Dondup, brand marchigiano nato nel 1999 dal connubio fra Massimo Berlino e Manuela Mariotti, le cui donne, autentiche clubber-mannequin, guardano alle avanguardie passate per modificare il presente, mescolando guardaroba maschile e femminilità purissima. ANGELIA AMI No less histrionic and inspired is the new collection by Angelia Ami, a young Milanese designer who has made of an intimist rigor and an ethnic influence her exclusive monogram: dresses, coats, and jackets tell a story of travels, blending multicultural echoes with haute couture. For next fall-winter, precious silks and technical materials come together on the backdrop of a colonial Africa, reflecting on a model that is first and foremost an inquisitive explorer, capable of being intriguing herself.

Non meno istrionica e ispirata è la nuova collezione di Angelia Ami, giovane designer milanese che ha fatto del rigore intimista e della contaminazione etnica la sua cifra esclusiva: gli abiti, i cappotti, i capispalla raccontano storie di viaggio, miscelando echi multiculturali e lavorazioni haute couture. www.collezioni.info ANTONELLI FIRENZE Founded in 2013 by Gossip in Castelfiorentino, this “Made in Tuscany” brand by Luciano Antonelli, distributed in over 500 multi-brand stores in Italy and abroad, offers a total linear and synthetic look, studied “by women for women”, in a mixture of cuts, shapes, and amplitudes. In the new collection, an authentic stylistic culmination of the label, oversized coats with kimono sleeves overlap jackets with mesh inserts.

Small, precious details, such as handmade stitches on dresses, pants, and jackets, soften noble materials and wool, coupled with neoprene.

The color palette - gray, beige, and gunmetal - is emphasized, through contrasts, by rust and yellow cedar. Yet, in exalting a more generous femininity, there are also red fox furs and 12cm high pumps with fabric appliqués that reflect the same collection.

Nella nuova collezione, autentica summa stilistica del brand, i cappotti oversize con manica a kimono si sovrappongono alle giacche con inserti in maglia. Piccoli preziosi dettagli, come le impunture fatte a mano presenti su abiti, pantaloni e giacche, ingentiliscono i materiali nobili e la tela in lana accoppiata con il neoprene. La cartella colori - innervata sul grigio, il beige e il canna di fucile - è esaltata, per contrasto, dal ruggine e dal giallo cedro. Ma a esaltare la femminilità più generosa ci sono anche pellicce di volpe rossa e décolleté tacco 12 con applicazioni dei tessuti che richiamano la collezione.

GIANLUCA CAPANNOLO The actors of a comedy-drama from 1939, “The Women”, are what inspired the pieces by designer Gianluca Capannolo - newly associated with the Chamber of Italian Fashion - and those he has chosen for his new collection. Originally from Aquila, with a degree from the “Accademia d’Alta Moda Keofia” in Rome, and past experience as creative director for Krizia, his women have motivation and merit, resoluteness and magnetism. They are rigorous, like the shapes that envelope them, and sophisticated, like the fabrics they wear, from jacquard with a damier effect to hammered silks and tweed brocade worked as knitwear. The color palettes are filled with blue and khaki, with some concessions to orange and fuchsia, while an army style triumphs over hyper-graphic, egg-shaped trenches or military coats fringed by hand. The faux fur of coats contrasts with Mongolian and Kidassia in the accessories, in a graceful manner of male dictates and a frank sensuality.

Aquilano d’origine, una laurea presso l’Accademia d’Alta Moda Keofia di Roma e un passato come direttore creativo di Krizia, le sue donne hanno motivazione e merito, risolutezza e magnetismo. Sono rigorose come le geometrie che le avvolgono e ricercate al pari delle stoffe che indossano, dal jaquard a effetto damier alle sete martellate, e dal broccato al tweed lavorato a tricot. La palette colori è pervasa di blu e kaki, con qualche concessione all’arancio e al fucsia, mentre lo stile army trionfa sui trench ipergrafici a uovo o nei military coats frangiati a mano. Alla pelliccia ecologica dei cappotti si contrappongono il mongolia e kidassia degli accessori. In un gioco garbato di dettami maschili e sensualità schietta.

Ispirazione hitchcockiana per la collezione firmata Marras, che immagina il guardaroba della protagonista in chiave contemporanea. Atmosfere noir e mood sofisticato che si traducono in capi preziosi, ricchi di ricami e stampe, passamaneria, geometrie razionaliste che si avvalgono di cromie decise. I materiali sono pregiati e abbinati a contrasto, nel modo che solo Marras sa fare.
