The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston inaugurates the first and most in-depth exhibition dedicated to the relationship between fashion and gender identity. An event that reconstructs the long history of haute couture and prêt-à-porter creations that challenged rigid and conventional definitions, exceeding expectations on the traditional division between menswear and womenswear. In addition to the re-evocation of historical trends, such as the garçonne look of the 1920s and the youth revolutions of the 1960s, the exhibition presents more than 50 projects, works by contemporary designers that include Rad Hourani, Jean Paul Gaultier, Alessandro Michele for Gucci, Alejandro Palomo, Yves Saint Laurent, Alessandro Trincone, and Rei Kawakubo. More than just a documentary on styles and trends, the clothes and accessories on display express the social changes of the last century, such as questioning the definition of gender, as well as the use of social media as powerful tools for self-expression. From Marlene Dietrich with her scandalous tuxedo almost 90 years ago in the film, Morocco - to David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, and Young Thug, the multimedia presentation includes paintings, photographs, music, and videos. Thanks to digital platforms, the exhibition also leaves ample space to individual and collective narratives, touching on themes of identity and gender expression, ranging from sexuality, to race, class, pop culture, activism, and social justice. An exhibition that reflects the current moment, where designers challenge cultural conventions with their sartorial choices. A dialogue on fashion and gender, with its remote roots and in continuous evolution. Gender Bending Fashion will be open to the public until August 25th, 2019 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Il Museum of Fine Arts di Boston inaugura la prima e più approfondita mostra dedicata al rapporto fra moda e identità di genere. Un evento che ricostruisce la storia lunga un secolo di creazioni haute couture e prêt-à-porter che hanno sfidato definizioni rigide e convenzionali, superando le aspettative sulla tradizionale divisione tra abbigliamento maschile e femminile. Oltre alle rievocazioni di tendenze storiche come l’aspetto garçonne degli anni ’20, e le rivoluzioni giovanili degli anni ’60, la mostra presenta più di 50 progetti, opere di designer contemporanei, tra cui Rad Hourani, Jean Paul Gaultier, Alessandro Michele per Gucci, Alejandro Palomo, Yves Saint Laurent, Alessandro Trincone, Rei Kawakubo. Più di un semplice documentario su stili e tendenze, i capi e gli accessori in mostra parlano dei cambiamenti sociali del secolo scorso, quali la messa in discussione della definizione di genere, e l’ascesa dei social media come potenti strumenti di autoespressione. Da Marlene Dietrich, che quasi novant’anni fa scandalizzò per il suo smoking, nel film Marocco, a David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix e Young Thug, la presentazione multimediale comprende dipinti, fotografie, musica e video. Grazie a piattaforme digitali, il percorso espositivo lascia ampio spazio anche alle narrazioni individuali e collettive, toccando temi di identità ed espressione di genere, che vanno dalla sessualità, alla razza, alla classe, alla cultura pop, fino all’attivismo e alla giustizia sociale. Una mostra che riflette il momento attuale, in cui stilisti e designer sfidano le convenzioni culturali con le loro scelte sartoriali, una conversazione sulla moda e sul genere che ha radici remote e che sta continuando ad evolversi. Gender Bending Fashion sarà aperta al pubblico sino al 25 agosto 2019, presso il Museum of Fine Arts di Boston.

BACK SIDE - FASHION FROM BEHIND At the Musée Bourdelle in Paris, an exhibition that goes beyond clothing seen from the front, enhancing the back

www.collezioni.info Il Palais Galliera di Parigi presenta “Back side Fashion from behind”, una mostra dedicata alla visione e alla percezione dell’abbigliamento osservato da dietro, allestita presso il Musée Bourdelle. In una società ossessionata dai volti delle persone, il percorso espositivo si addentra in un’originale e inaspettata riflessione sulla relazione che l’uomo instaura con il proprio corpo, da un punto di vista sociale e psicologico, ponendo l’attenzione su un elemento essenziale della silhouette: la schiena. Zona di forte carica simbolica, essa ricorda all’uomo i suoi limiti, poiché sfugge alla vista, ed in parte al tocco. Strumento di seduzione o motivo di pudore, vestita o spogliata, questa parte del corpo, così carica di valenze equivoche ed enigmatiche, trova particolare espressione nella moda, un linguaggio da sempre tra i più sensibili ai cambiamenti degli archetipi estetici e alle variazioni dei valori individuali o sociali. Dalla sensualità di una scollatura, al vincolo di una chiusura, la mostra propone un percorso tematico di oltre cento capi di abbigliamento e accessori dal XVIII secolo ai giorni nostri, provenienti dalle collezioni del Palais Galliera, oltre alla presenza di una selezione di filmati e fotografie. Il percorso si snoda attraverso le sale del museo, e i modelli presentati stabiliscono un dialogo tra moda e scultura con le creazioni di Bourdelle, questo grande maestro del volgere del Novecento. Un’occasione per ammirare con occhi nuovi i dorsi potenti e muscolosi e i contorni sottili delle sue sculture. “Back side - Fashion from behind” sarà aperta al pubblico dal 5 luglio al 17 novembre 2019, Musée Bourdelle, rue AntoineBourdelle 18, Parigi.

“At the Musée Bourdelle, the Palais Galliera in Paris presents Back side - Fashion from behind”, an exhibition dedicated to the vision and perception of clothing observed from behind.

In a society obsessed by people’s faces, the exhibition looks into an original and unexpected reflection on the relationship that individuals establish with their bodies, from a social and psychological perspective, focusing on an essential element of the silhouette: the back. A part of the body that is strongly symbolic, which reminds us of our limits, since it escapes from sight, and partly from touch. An instrument of seduction or a reason for modesty, dressed or undressed, the back is charged with equivocal and enigmatic values and finds a particular expression in fashion, a language that has always been among the most sensitive to changes in aesthetic archetypes and variations in individual or social values. From the sensuality of a neckline to the constraint of a zipper, the exhibition offers a thematic itinerary of over one hundred garments and accessories from the 18th century to the present day, from the collections of the Palais Galliera, in addition to selection of films and photographs. The exhibition winds through the halls of the museum, and the models on display establish a dialogue between fashion and sculpture with the creations by the great master of the 20th century, Bourdelle. An opportunity to admire powerful, muscular backs and the subtle contours of his sculptures with new eyes. “Back side - Fashion from behind” will open to the public from July 5th to November 17th, 2019 at the Musée Bourdelle on Rue Antoine-Bourdelle 18, Paris.

A breathtaking skyline, interrupted by ancient minarets or modern skyscrapers, neighborhoods where crafts shops and small traditional inns casually alternate with international luxury stores and trendy restaurants. All this is the magic of Istanbul. A city that is a crossroads of cultures and where tradition and modernity, history and urban dynamism come together. And it was within this picture that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul was held, as usual, in the futuristic Zorlu Performance Arts Center, organized by the Istanbul Ready-Made Garment and Apparel Exporters Association (IHKIB).

The event fully presented the reality of Turkish fashion through collections for next Fall-Winter and a program that was not only replete with fashion shows (about 40 in all), but also with presentations in showrooms, meetings with designers, conferences on various aspects of the textile market, and workshops. To confirm the constant growth of this platform that, season after season, becomes more interesting on an international level, was the influx of visitors: an average of 5,000 per day and, above all, the presence of more than 100 buyers from more than 20 foreign countries.

The most prestigious included Saks Fifth Avenue Dubai, Printemps Paris, Harvey Nichols Qatar, and Liberty London. The woman presented on the runway was bold, modern, self-confident, and Özgür Masur feminine. A woman who lets herself be tempted by sequins and transparencies, by important shapes and modern experimentations, by classic evergreen elegance, and by sporty and street style contemporary contaminations.

Many of the runways were illuminated by the glamour of vibrations from the 70s and 80s (Ozgur Masur, Sudi Etuz, Eda Gungor), while others were more devoted to romanticism and pure elegance, such as Mehtap Elaidi’s and Asli Filinta’s. In line with the theme followed for several seasons in promoting new talents, emerging designers amazed everyone with avant-garde collections, such as the W-S-M, or with more colorful and rebellious ones, as was the case with DB Berdan’s street fighters.

The MBFWI is a multi-faceted and very interesting platform that is in constant grow. Definitely a new hub that shouldn’t be missed by fashion professionals.

Lo skyline mozzafiato interrotto dagli antichi minareti o dai moderni grattacieli, i quartieri che alternano con disinvoltura botteghe artigiane e piccole locande tradizionali agli store internazionali del lusso e a ristoranti alla moda. Tutto questo è la magia di Istanbul, una città crocevia di culture, che unisce tradizione e modernità, storia e dinamismo urbano. È in questa cornice che lo scorso marzo si è tenuta la Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul, come di consueto ospitata nell’avveniristico Zorlu Performance Arts Center ed organizzata dalla Istanbul Ready-Made Garment and Apparel Exporters’ Association (IHKIB). La manifestazione ha presentato la realtà della moda turca, attraverso le collezioni per il prossimo autunno/inverno, in modo completo, attraverso un programma non solo ricco di sfilate (circa 40 in tutto), ma anche con presentazioni in showroom, incontri con i designer, conferenze sui vari aspetti del mercato tessile e workshop. A conferma della costante crescita di questa piattaforma che, stagione dopo stagione diventa sempre più interessante a livello internazionale, c’è l’afflusso di visitatori, una media di 5000 al giorno, e soprattutto la presenza di più di 100 buyer provenienti da più di 20 paesi stranieri dei quali possiamo citare, tra i più prestigiosi, Saks Fifth Avenue Dubai, Printemps Paris, Harvey Nichols Qatar e Liberty London. La donna presentata sulle passerelle si è rivelata audace, moderna, sicura di sé e della propria femminilità. Una donna che si lascia tentare da paillettes e trasparenze, da forme importanti e da sperimentazioni moderne, dall’eleganza classica evergreen, dalle contaminazioni contemporanee sporty e streetstyle. Molte delle passerelle erano illuminate dal glamour di vibrazioni anni ’70 e ’80 (Ozgur Masur, Sudi Etuz, Eda Gungor), altre più dedite al romanticismo e all’eleganza pura come per Mehtap Elaidi e Asli Filinta. In linea col percorso intrapreso da diverse stagioni atto a sostenere i nuovi talenti, i designer emergenti hanno stupito con collezioni avanguardiste, come nel caso dei debuttanti W-S-M, o più colorate e ribelli come nel caso delle street fighter mandate in passerella da DB Berdan. La MBFWI è una piattaforma poliedrica e molto interessante, in costante crescita. Decisamente un nuovo Hub imperdibile per gli addetti del settore moda.

Nel far convivere riferimenti differenti e apparentemente discordanti con incredibile armonia Alessandro Dell’Acqua, fondatore e direttore creativo di N°21, è un indiscusso fuoriclasse, come dimostra con la prefall 2019, in cui fa dialogare due temi principali, la Marina e la Lingerie, con risultati inaspettati. Le T-shirt e le gonne a righe marinare, le maglie in mohair a rete, i piccoli giubbotti con colli in maglia flirtano con maglioni a collo alto con inserti in pizzo, cardigan asimmetrici, fake fur leopardo, in un ensemble suggestivo e convincente, che utilizza un vocabolario volto alla contemporaneità. BALENCIAGA Stroboscopic lights and the acrid smell of asphalt. Demma Gvasalia’s artistic vision is embodied in a show that creates a haven from background noise and highlights shapes. Minimal, cool tailoring is expressed in his coats and jackets that envelop like cocoons, without buttons, while severe gray and black dilute into fluid cuts, wavy lines, and a nostalgia for the 80s and 90s. The Coup de théâtre occurs gradually through violent strokes of color, black leather outfits, tops, and super sparkling leggings.

GIVENCHY A tenebrous fairy tale comes to life on the Givenchy catwalk, where dark colors and basic pieces meet Japanese-inspired floral prints.

Rigor and femininity alternate in the creations of the maison: from tailored suits and coats, with oversized 80s- and 90s-style shoulder straps, to pleated silk dresses. A classic style, where fine details suggest an essential and undisputable impeccable elegance. A game of contrasts, a journey through time, like a flashback through different eras.

Sulla passerella di Givenchy prende vita una favola dark, dove colori scuri e capi basic incontrano le stampe floreali di ispirazione giapponese. Rigore e femminilità si alternano nelle creazioni della Maison: dai tailleur e cappotti dal taglio sartoriale, con spalline oversize in stile anni ’80 e ’90, ad abiti in seta plissettata. Uno look classico, dove i ricercati particolari dei capi suggeriscono un’idea di eleganza essenziale e rigorosamente impeccabile. Geoffrey B. Small’s “I am not sustainable” was a direct protest and a reaction against the false and immoral use of the word and its meanings by the majority of the fashion and textile industries today-from one of the leading pioneers and true practitioners of the concept. While the designer will continue to advance and adhere to the work and commitment of his industry-leading ecological and ethical creation practices, he will not use the word “sustainable” to describe his company’s work that so many other false practioners have suddenly and brazenly stolen to describe theirs. As the models powerfully hurled the phrase “I am not sustainable” to the audience as they walked, the emotional show presented both a controversial and emotional runway statement as well as raised a fundamental question about humanity itself, and whether our species truly has what it takes to avoid creating its own extinction within this century.

“I am not sustainable”, la collezione di Geoffrey B. Small, è stata una protesta, da parte di uno dei primi e reali sostenitori della sostenibilità.

Una reazione contro l’uso falso e immorale della parola “sustainable” e del suo significato da parte della maggioranza delle industrie produttrici di moda e di tessuti al giorno d’oggi. Nonostante lo stilista continui a portare avanti il progetto e ad aderire all’impegno della propria azienda nel produrre creazioni ponendo grande attenzione all’ecologia e all’etica, egli non utilizza la parola “sustainable” per descrivere il suo operato, della quale tanti si sono impossessati in modo improprio e sfacciato per descrivere se stessi. Mentre le modelle dicono al pubblico la frase “I am not sustainable”, avanzando sulla passerella, lo show presenta una sfilata controversa ed emozionale e fa sorgere una domanda fondamentale per l’umanità stessa che si avvierà all’estinzione per la fine del secolo, se non si attiene alle regole della sostenibilità.

Presenti i temi iconici del brand: abiti cortissimi, jeans o pantaloni in pelle abbinati a camicie trasparenti. Eccellente il know-how sartoriale, evidente nei volumi delle spalle, realizzati con imbottiture rigorosamente cucite a mano. Protagonisti gli accessori, dai nuovi stivali alla caviglia, ai cappelli.
