No, absolutely not. Coco did not like all those frills that the women of her time utterly loved. Furbelows and feathers, skirts and peplums, ribbons and bows. No. She loved the essentials. Men’s clothing, especially English, since she foresaw its power and authority. It was a path to independence, a declaration of freedom. She borrowed tweeds, which she managed to slacken, and, last but not least, even a flower: the camellia. What dandies of the time wore in their buttonholes. Like Proust, who was very attentive to fashion. An ethereal flower, with neither a scent nor thorns, but rigorous in its form. Of oriental origins, almost an origami. White. A gender neutral flower. Coco’s life was nonconforming. And so were her choices. The camellia became an icon of the Maison, pinned for the first time on a dress in 1923, remaining intact over the years in all its enigma. Satin, golden, frayed, printed, embroidered, and evergreen. Today, it is the absolute star of the new Chanel High Jewelry collection, produced and created in the atelier in Place Vendôme, the cradle of savoir-faire for precious stones and metals. 53 are the creations that include brooches, bracelets, rings, necklaces and watches, along with 23 transformable jewels. Eclectic interpretations, all characterized by an extreme delicacy, among diamonds, pink sapphires and rubies, where the expression of luxury finds its almost impossible dimension in elegance. No, proprio no, a Coco non piacevano tutti i fronzoli che facevano impazzire le donne del suo tempo: falpalà e piume, gonne e sopragonne, nastri e fiocchetti. Lei era per l’essenziale. Amava il guardaroba maschile, soprattutto inglese, perchè ne intuiva il potere e l’autorevolezza, perchè un via verso l’indipendenza, una dichiarazione di libertà. Ne prende a prestito i tweed, che riesce a slentare, e non ultimo anche un fiore: la camelia, che i dandy dell’epoca portavano alla bottoniera. Come Proust, molto attento alle mode. Un fiore algido, senza profumo, senza spine, dal disegno rigoroso, di origini orientali, quasi un origami. Bianco. Un fiore no gender. Controcorrente la vita di Coco. Controcorrente le sue scelte. La camelia diventa un’icona della Maison, appuntata per la prima volta su un abito nel 1923, rimane intatta nel tempo, in tutto il suo enigma. In satin, dorata, sfrangiata, stampata, ricamata, sempreverde. Oggi è la protagonista assoluta della nuova collezione di Alta Goielleria Chanel, prodotta e creata negli atelier di Place Vendôme, la culla del saper fare con pietre e metalli preziosi. Sono 53 le creazioni che si declinano in spille, bracciali, anelli, collane e orologi, 23 i gioielli trasformabili, eclettiche interpretazioni. The Bartolotta & Martorana brand combines classicism with the latest generation of fabrics and craftsmanship in a techno couture that looks towards contemporaneity, while taking advantage of tradition. The founders, designers Simone Bartolotta and Salvatore Martorana, follow a creative path that leads them to conceive original pieces that combine romance and a modern touch. The maison’s new collection, “Bright dreams”, presents creations that recall a dreamlike atmosphere, where playful and harmonious nuances recall mysterious figures and the protagonists of fairy tales. The palette goes from blue to pink, and green to yellow, expressing sweetness and joy. Shiny appliqués and three-dimensional embroideries are embellishments, while silks are combined with technical fabrics, and softnesses with more rigid volumes.

It was Virginie Viard, fashion studio director and Karl Lagerfeld’s right-hand woman, who greeted the audience at the end of the maison’s couture shows in Paris. A moment of weariness caused the great creative director to miss the final catwalk bow, but the imprint of the lines was all his at the Grand Palais, with the garden of a Mediterranean villa as a backdrop, where new Marie Antoinettes appeared. In love with the eighteenth century and its atmosphere, Karl returns to his canons through crinolines and delicate floral appliqués, tight bustiers, wide skirts in taffeta, and pastel shades where rose and the effusion of feathers are prominent.

Back to the great classics. Creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli looks towards couture by Charles James, seen through the lens of Cecil Beaton but, instead of imagining one kind of woman - the WASP - he imagined a strong black woman in all their splendor. Emphasized volumes that caress the body, rustling crisp skirts, swirls of satin and taffeta, prominent sleeves and bows, but also an ethereal floral daintiness, a gentle spring wind.

An extremely elegant high fashion show with rigorous lines for the Parisian stage. The standards of the atelier are all there. Cuts are perfect, as are proportions. Impeccable, with a touch of extravagance which makes a difference, like a huge bow that hides a backpack or latex for pants and capes. Clare Waight Keller draws falsely simple clothes with a sure hand and with a certain minimalism that flows into cascades of sparkling, tinkling fringes, softened by some naive lace. Contemporary haute couture. Chic. Una sfilata d’alta moda dai tratti rigorosi, per il palcoscenico parigino, e di estrema eleganza. I canoni dell’atelier ci sono tutti: i tagli sono perfetti come le proporzioni, la confezione impeccabile, è il tocco di stravaganza che fa la differenza come l’ enorme fiocco che nasconde uno zaino, o il lattice per i pantaloni e le mantelline. Christian Dior Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of Maison Dior for just the past few seasons, has worked from the outset to place the female figure at center stage with powerful feminist slogans. For her Spring 2019 couture collection, “Dream Parade”, she brings a London troupe of acrobats and jugglers to the catwalk, transforming the Musée Rodin into a circus. A dreamlike and mysterious universe that was so loved by Monsieur Dior. It is no coincidence that the show was performed on the day of the 114th anniversary of his birth. References to Picasso, Federico Fellini, Cindy Sherman, Jeanne Cocteau, and Gerard Vicaire are embodied in an eccentric and spectacular collection, made up of long, sparkly dresses, tailored jackets with a masculine touch, geometric mini-dresses, and skirts structured like cages.
Maria Grazia Chiuri, al timone creativo della Maison Dior da una manciata di stagioni, ha fin dall’esordio lavorato nell’ottica di porre la figura femminile al centro della scena, con potenti slogan femministi. Per la couture dedicata alla prossima primavera 2019, “Dream Parade”, porta in passerella una troupe londinese di acrobate e giocoliere, trasformando il Musée Rodin in un circo, universo onirico e misterioso tanto amato da Monsieur Dior (non a caso la sfilata si è svolta nel giorno del 114esimo anniversario della sua nascita).
