Tranoï, which means ‘among us’ in Italian, is an exclusive platform that brings together the best of emerging and avant-garde apparel and accessories labels alongside the current top designers and numerous worldwiderenown established brands.

For more than 25 years, the trade show, focused on meeting the needs of directional buyers, media and fashion professionals, has being unveiling, season after season, both the commercial and artistic side of the collections on display in extraordinary settings in the heart of Paris. The event is always accompanied and

enriched by fashion shows and installations in order to help discover, be amazed and be seduced by the best contemporary men’s and women’s collections.

Founded in 2005 because of the demand for more innovative and original menswear collections, the men’s edition of Tranoï offers nowadays international brands, some offering the womenswear collections as well, keeping pace with an ever-changing market, right at the beginning of the ordering season.

Tranoï Collective is the new menswear-dedicated section focused on strong, unique, avant-

garde emerging designers. Among the many exhibitors of the January 2018 edition, 8igb, Appletrees, Bodybound, Consistence, Goeie Katoen, J.Norig, Jade Rozenboek, Mareunrol’s, Na Di Studio, The Iou Project, and Wonda Kammer for a product portfolio that ranges from hand-painted shirts and coats with refined cuts to couture bomber jackets and premium denim.

The other sections are The Hype Society devoted to streetwear and limited edition collection, The Timeless with timeless brands for modern gentlemen, and The Eclectic with the more creative and eccentric menswear proposals.

Tranoï, che significa ‘fra di noi’, è una piattaforma artistica che riunisce e presenta il meglio del design emergente e di avanguardia nell’abbigliamento moda e per gli accessori accanto ai marchi di punta attuali e a quelli conosciuti e radicati da tempo.

Dedicata a buyer e agli addetti ai lavori, ogni edizione di Tranoï svela a Parigi da oltre 25 anni un lato commerciale ed uno artistico, arricchita da eventi e sfilate, installazioni per far scoprire, stupire e sedurre l’uomo e la donna contemporanei.

Tranoï Uomo nasce nel 2005 per la richiesta di maggior ri-

Major: a project by Govanni Allegri Major is a new men’s and women’s outerwear brand in between traditional methodology and technical innovation created by an international design team led by Giovanni Allegri in the Allegri production plant in Montelupo Fiorentino, Italy. A challenge in terms of structures, human resources and digital technology, the project that aims to create collections focused on minimalist geometric design, yet rich in cross-pollinations and references, by combining high-tech innovative materials with a strong manufacturing know-how. The shopping experience is a main focus, especially when it comes to customer support, particularly online, with the help of a website that doesn’t only offer products to be purchased but also interesting content including in-depth articles, influencers’ opinions, advanced virtualisation tools. Giovanni Allegri decided to launch Major at Pitti Uomo with an apparel and accessories capsule collection, targeting at first Italy and the USA, then other international markets.

The Brook Brothers Bicentenary at Pitti Uomo In 2018 Brooks Brothers, the oldest American clothing brand, celebrates 200 years since its foundation. The first celebratory event is taking place in Florence in collaboration with Pitti Immagine Uomo 93 and marks an important new development. The iconic heritage brand is showing its collection on the catwalk for the first time with a show in the Salone del Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio. A retrospective with items from the legendary Brooks Brothers archives is also part of the celebration. “Two hundred years of tradition and at the same time of innovation: this is a significant moment not only for Brooks Brothers but also for the global fashion industry” said Claudio Del Vecchio, Pitti president and chief executive officer.

From a family haberdashery opened in 1818 in New York to a global brand that has shaped and defined American style by being the first to offer suits and button-down collar shirts, by using fabrics like madras and seersucker, by dressing almost all USA Presidents as well as a great number of stars and leading industry leaders.

ASMANA WELLNESS WORLD A vast international wellbeing centre at the gates of Florence

A succession of ponds, waterfalls, whirlpools, swimming pools, steam baths, hammams, caves, saunas, indoor and outdoor spaces, gardens, terraces, multi-sensory areas, beautiful rooms with fireplaces and oriental decorations and areas where to enjoy aperitifs, cocktails, food tastings and other special events, all dedicated to wellbeing.

The aim of Asmana Wellness World is to offer opportunities to relax, to recharge and to find new energy not only thanks to the very relaxing surroundings but also thanks to a great number of special treatments like, for example, the newly introduced birch treatment from Russia to temper mind and body and to release toxins.

Opened in 2015 by Floriba in Campi Bisenzio near Florence, Asmana Wellness World is one of the biggest spas in Italy. The Concept Korea project, in collaboration with Korea Creative Content Agency (Kocca) is back at Pitti Uomo with the new collections by Portavoci, Beyond Closet and Bmuet(te), who re-interpret western classics in a typically oriental graphic key and a precise target of young and versatile customers.

The latest collection continues on the path of innovation in terms of treatments and washes always respecting the natural qualities of the fibres.

A new definition of sumptuousness was all I kept thinking of while admiring the amazing Spring/Summer 2018 catwalk show by Edward Crutchley. I was mesmerised by the richness of the materials, by the games of deflated and inflated volumes, by the colour choices, by the mastery of the cuts and construction, by the perfect combination of what the young British designer calls “manly pomp and feminine vigour in view of the irrelevance of gender and the relevance of sex”. I

was mesmerised by a collection that made me think of royal and imperial courts of yesteryear and of a distant future in this and on other planets. It made me think of Queen Elisabeth the First, of Louis XIV, of the Habsburg, of Queen Victoria, of the Medici and the Borgia, of a splendidly impossible Arcadia. Maybe because of the ingenuous mix of different references ranging from Elizabethan blackwork embroidery to Victorian flower and monkey motifs, from plaited raffia by

the Dayak tribe in Kalimantan to the Edo period in Japan.

Maybe because of the materials and decorative techniques, both truly traditional and very innovative, celebrating the British textile heritage. Maybe because of a colour palette of unusual hues ranging from eggshell, peat, cameo to celadon, eau de nil, flesh. Maybe because of all of the above.

Una nuova sontuosità. Non riuscivo a pensare ad altro durante la splendida sfilata primavera/

estate 2018 creata da Edward Crutchley. Rimasi incantato dalla straordinaria preziosità dei tagli e della costruzione dei capi alla quale corrisponde un’altrettanto straordinaria preziosità dei materiali, dei giochi di volume, delle scelte cromatiche. Rimasi affascinato dalla perfetta unione di ciò che il giovane stilista britannico definisce “la fastosità maschile e il vigore femminile alla luce del fatto che ciò che è importante non è il gender ma la sessualità”.

lezione che mi fece pensare alle corti della prima regina Elisabetta, di Luigi XIV, della regina Vittoria, degli Asburgo, dei Medici, dei Borgia. Una collezione che mi fece pensare al passato e al futuro, a numerosi capitoli della storia del nostro pianeta, a un’Arcadia impossibilmente splendida in un altro pianeta.

Rimasi incantato dalla geniale unione di referenze derivate da fonti d’ispirazione molto diverse come i ricami in nero elisabettiani, le tipiche fantasie floreali con scimmiette dell’epoca vit-

toriana, il periodo Edo in Giappone, la raffia intrecciata dalle tribù Dayak nel Kalimantan. Rimasi meravigliato dalla gamma di stoffe e tessuti, sia classici in omaggio della tradizione tessile britannica che innovativi alla ricerca di nuovi effetti. Rimasi meravigliato dalla tavolozza di colori composta da sfumature insolite come guscio d’uovo, carne, torba, cammeo, un grigio verdastro e uno giallastro. Rimasi piacevolmente sconvolto da questa nuova geniale definizione della sontuosità.

A NEW RENAISSANCE

Once again, the last edition of London Fashion Week Men’s started a truly mesmerising thought process in my mind. Are we at the dawn of a new Renaissance?

A new trend appeared in London last June, whose echo reverberated in London and Paris during the respective women’s fashion weeks later in the year. A new trend that I would like to refer to as sumptuousness. A brand new approach that is very distinct from the current neo-maximalist trend because it is extremely controlled and measured in its excessiveness.

A sumptuousness that is expressed through the richness of the fabrics as well as extraordinary volumes and silhouettes. Elements that instantly bring up to mind imperial courts of yesteryear or of imaginary distant planets. As in the case of the exquisite collection by Edward Crutchley and in the incredible hand-stitched details and perfect construction of the equally exquisite collection

by Harry Xu. And that makes me think, again and again, of the pioneering work by Astrid Andersen who, seasons and seasons ago, was the first to introduce precious materials, like the most exquisite lace and furs, into active sportswear.

In my opinion, the new sumptuousness is a very welcome reaction to the current wave of purposely cheap-looking streetwear and sportswear with exorbitant and unjustifiable price tags. But more to the point, the new sumptuousness is yet another brilliant example of the ability of Londonbased designers to create intricately constructed pieces. To choose the most interesting materials.

To develop, once again, a brand new trend with real content and a distinctive aesthetics that will spread its influence worldwide. To offer a brilliant example of creative fashion design, which sits at the opposite spectrum of creative styling. To prove, once again, the London-based designers aren’t afraid to experiment and to innovate.

L’ultima edizione della London Fashion Week Men’s ha generato nella mia mente una domanda ben precisa.

Sull’orizzonte della moda uomo sta per sorgere il sole di un nuovo rinascimento?

Londra propone un nuovo trend il cui eco ha riverberato anche durante le settimane della moda donna a Londra e a Parigi. Un nuovo trend che vorrei chiamare “sontuosità”. Un nuovo approccio che è molto diverso dall’attuale tendenza neo-massimalista perché, quasi contraddittoriamente, è estremamente controllato, preciso, misurato nel suoi eccessi. Una “sontuosità” che si esprime attraverso la ricchezza dei tessuti e la straordinarietà dei volumi, delle sagome, delle linee. Elementi che richiamano istantaneamente le corti imperiali di un passato ormai lontano o di pianeti immaginari, come nel caso della squisita collezione di Edward Crutchley e degli incredibili dettagli e della perfetta costruzione degli straordinari capi di Harry Xu. Elementi che mi fanno pensare al lavoro pionieristico di Astrid Andersen che, anni addietro, fu la prima ad

introdurre materiali preziosi come pizzi raffinatissimi e morbidissime pellicce nell’active sportswear.

A mio parere, la nuova “sontuosità” è un passo avanti rispetto all’attuale ondata di capi e accessori d’ispirazione streetwear e sportswear che, malgrado abbiano un’immagine volutamente cheap, sono in vendita a prezzi esorbitanti e francamente ingiustificabili. La nuova “sontuosità” è inoltre un altro perfetto esempio della capacità degli stilisti londinesi di creare capi molto complicati, di scegliere i materiali più interessanti, di sviluppare tendenze con contenuti reali, autentici, originali, veramente nuovi, la cui influenza si diffonderà in tutto il mondo. La nuova “sontuosità” è basata su un approccio estetico ben chiaro che si concretizza in vero stilismo e design di moda e non nell’ennesimo esercizio di puro e semplice styling. Una nuova “sontuosità” che conferma, ancora una volta, che gli stilisti londinesi sono, sempre e comunque, propensi a sperimentare, a innovare, a rivoluzionare. www.londonfashionweekmens.co.uk

INGENIOUS Alex Mullins: a truly original collection for the warmer season The focus of the unashamedly fashion-forward collection for Spring/Summer 2018 by Alex Mullins is capturing the mood of perfume adverts from the 1990’s and then filtering it through into the contemporary world. The result is a series of striking outfits with bold macro floral prints as well as with photos that the designer took of some items from his previous collections digitally printed on silk, canvas, light cotton. Magenta, orange, acid canary and sunshine yellow brighten up a dark palette of charcoal, mushroom, indigo, mid blue. I am totally in love with the denim and floral print pieces.

L’obiettivo della collezione primavera/estate firmata Alex Mullins è l’impadronirsi del mood delle pubblicità di profumi degli anni 90 per poi filtrarlo in un’ottica decisamente contemporanea. Il risultato di questo approccio è una serie di look spettacolari e decisamente di tendenza con stampe floreali macro e con foto di alcuni capi di collezioni precedenti digitalmente stampate su seta, tela, cotone leggero.

Sprazzi di magenta, arancio, giallo canarino acido e giallo sole creano punti luce nella tavolozza prevalentemente carbone, fungo, indaco, bluette. Eccezionali i capi in denim.

In search of authenticity, the holy grail of contemporary fashion, or indeed of contemporary life, the Sport&Street team went backstage at a number of catwalk shows and presentations at ModaLisboa. The last edition of the biannual Portuguese fashion week provided plenty of opportunities to photographer Rocco Bizzari and to Sport&Street editor-inchief Alberto Caselli to cap-

ture the models before or after their walk on the runway. And, therefore, to provide a different view and a different point of view of the Spring/Summer 2018 collections by the most directional and original Portuguese designers and brands.

The decision to go for “the real thing” was motived by the fact that the once impenetrable doors to the ivory tower that fashion once was have, for

some time now, been opened wide allowing anyone and everyone access to a world previously accessible to a very selected number of people. Following the global macro-trend of fashion democratisation, we felt it was necessary and pertinent to share with our readers, both in the pages of this issue of Collezioni New(s)style and in issue 84 of Sport&Street, what we experience on a regular ba-

sis when working at fashion weeks and similar events.

Il fotografo Rocco Bizzari e Alberto Caselli, direttore di Sport&Street, hanno approfittato di questa occa-

sione per creare una visione diversa e un diverso punto di vista delle collezioni primavera/estate 2018 firmate dagli stilisti e dai brand più interessanti del fashion system portoghese.

Una ricerca di autenticità motivata anche dal fatto che, da un po’ di tempo a questa parte, le porte, una volta impenetrabili, della torre d’avorio del mondo della moda sono adesso spalancate per consentire a chiunque l’accesso a un

mondo precedentemente accessibile esclusivamente a un numero molto selezionato di persone. Seguendo la macro-tendenza globale della democratizzazione della moda, abbiamo ritenuto che fosse necessario e pertinente condividere con i nostri lettori, sia nelle pagine di questo numero di Collezioni New(s)tyle che nel numero 84 di Sport&Street, una tipica esperienza lavorativa del team di Sport&Street.

Urban athletic fashion for 2018 as the main theme of White Man&Woman from the 13th to the 15th of January 2018.

In collaboration with Alfredo Canducci and the international showroom Tomorrow Ltd., the ‘Athleisure’ theme focused on leading brands in the activewear segment such as 42|54, No Ka’Oi, White Mountaineering, GEYM and C-Clique. All in the name of luxury sport for men and women, not just for sport activities but also for a wide range of everyday life and leisure time occasions.

Among the special guests of the latest edition, Miaoran, the label founded in 2015 by the Chinese designer Miao Ran who pursues a genderless aesthetics, and Di Liborio, the label by Liborio

Capizzi that mixes ethnic and contemporary references, vintage elements and rock influences. Also present, Sartorial Monk, the label launched by Sabàto Russo, Stighlorgan, La Sartoria per True NYC, Thom Krom and Ecoalf. The White Basement area hosted once again the most directional contemporary labels including Ermanno Gallamini and Barbara Alan and many others, which are ideal for international multi-brand retailers and department stores.

In collaboration with Birik Butik, the portal for jewellery brands, the debut of White Bijoux, a new area with a special focus also on eyewear in the White Glasses section and on beauty products in the White Beauty section.

White Man&Woman focuses on menswear collections and womenswear pre-collections for top international buyers and fashion industry professionals.

Attended by over 21,000 visitors every season, it is the ideal showcase for niche labels and contemporary brands thanks to its mix of creativity and innovation in easy to navigate and accessible settings.

Recently ICE - Agency and White organised an exclusive event in London to support exhibiting established brands and directional labels, both Italian and international.

DRKN Discover the S/S 18 collection by Swedish brand DRKN Influenced by the instinct and the need for survival in computer games, ‘Modular’ tells “the story of the new urban explorer within the world of gaming culture and contemporary innovation”. With a strong focus on outerwear, the collection comprises also of a full apparel and accessories range, mainly in black and grey with injections of white, pinkish beige, bright red. The Spring/Summer 2018 by emerging Italian label Matteo Lamandini plays with elements derived from classic American sports, cleverly mixed with traditional fabrics such as pinstripes and checks. Also in the collection innovative fabrics such as a see-through nylon and cottons combined with triacetate. Stripes of different width and in different colours play a key role just like the contrasting volumes and the colour palette of pastel tones and red, chalk white, royal blue and black.

Matteo Lamandini gioca con elementi derivati dall’universo sportivo statunitense, sapientemente miscelati a tessuti tradizionali come gessati e quadrettati. Lo stilista emergente italiano usa anche tessuti innovativi come nylon trasparenti e miscele di cotone e triacetato. I rigati, in varie dimensioni diverse e in colori diversi, giocano un ruolo fondamentale, proprio come i volumi contrastanti e i colori pastello affiancati da rosso, bianco gesso, blu scuro e nero.

Influenzato dall’istinto di sopravvivenza indispensabile quando si gioca al computer, “Modular” racconta “la storia del nuovo esploratore urbano”. Focalizzata sui capi spalla, la collezione comprende anche una gamma completa di capi d’abbigliamento e accessori, principalmente in nero e grigio con iniezioni di bianco, beige rosato, rosso acceso. The ‘Hat-Trick’ collection marks the debut of TOODORIA, the contemporary style range recently launched by the Italian heritage hat company Doria 1905. Named after the classic magician trick when an object appears unexpectedly from a hat and by the equally classic sport expression indicating three scores by the same athlete, the collection is clearly influenced by London in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Decorated with discrete metal piercing and screws, shiny vinyl and bandana details, the various styles, ranging from Texan cowboy to beret, are available in classic white and black or in other solid colours.
