Face to face with Armand Hadida The latest menswear trends according to Tranoi’s fair coordinator and L’Eclaireur’s owner It’s 1990 when Armand Hadida and his wife Martine open the first L’Eclaireur shop in rue Rosier in Paris.

Ever attentive on how to approach the customer, they open and put to the test various spaces in different Parisian neighbourhoods, the latest at Saint Ouen, where’s the most important flee market of the Ville Lumière; and a new opening is scheduled to occur in Los Angeles soon. Their concept stores are not solely linked to fashion, but to art and design as well, featuring pieces of furniture and decor, design complement and life style items.

Nowadays L’Eclaireur has even become a clothing brand, therefore Armand Hadida is the only enterpreneur playing a double role, as Tranoï Fair organizer and as a buyer for his own shops, and it’s just with him that we’re facing right below the new problems of a changing market.

È nel 1990 che Armand Hadida e sua moglie Martine aprono il primo negozio L’Eclaireur in rue de Rosiers a Parigi. Da sempre attenti all’approccio col consumatore proseguono nelle aperture e collaudano vari spazi in diversi quartieri parigini, l’ultimo a Saint Ouen, dove si trova il più importante mercato delle Pulci dalla Ville Lumière; ed è in programma anche una prossima inaugurazione a Los Angeles. I loro ‘concept store’ non sono associati solo alla moda ma anche all’arte e al design, con mobili e arredo, decorazione e complementi, oggetti per lo stile di vita metropolitano. Oggi L’Eclaireur è diventato anche il marchio di una linea d’abbigliamento, quindi Armand Hadida è l’unico imprenditore ad avere un doppio ruolo, come organizzatore della fiera Tranoï e come buyer per i propri negozi, ed è con lui che abbiamo affrontato le problematiche di un mercato che cambia.

«As a fair organizer I’m convinced that the role of a fair today isn’t just to sell collections, but to represent an image showcase for the brands, which must seduce and captivate the buyers. On the market the offer is vast and only the creativity in setting and promoting oneself makes a difference.” explain Hadida.

«Come organizzatore di saloni sono convinto che oggi il ruolo di una fiera non sia solo quello di vendere collezioni ma anche di essere una vetrina d’immagine per le marche che devono sedurre e accattivare i compratori.

Sul mercato la proposta è molto vasta e solo con la creatività nel proporsi e nel presentarsi si può fare la differenza” spiega Hadida.

In the last decade everything has changed. – the businessman keeps on telling - There have been some disrupting elements proving that nowadays’ logics of market aren’t up-to-date anymore. The coming of giants such as Zara and H&M freaked the world of distribution out.

They insert twenty collections onto the market yearly, thus refreshing the offer and seducing the customer. With a proper marketing strategy they associated to the big names, such as Lanvin, Marni, Comme des Garçons, thus raising the product level from a styling point of view and proposing it as a smart purchase.

“Nell’ultimo decennio tutto è cambiato. – prosegue l’imprenditore - Ci sono stati elementi perturbatori che hanno provato che le logiche del mercato odierno non sono più attuali. L’arrivo di colossi come Zara e H&M ha sconvolto il mondo della distribuzione. Queste catene inseriscono annualmente sul mercato venti collezioni, rinfrescando così l’offerta e seducono il consumatore.

Con una giusta strategia di marketing si sono associati ai grandi nomi, proponendo mini capsule collection firmate Lanvin, Marni, Comme des Garçonnes, e altre, alzando così il livello del prodotto sia da punto di vista stilistico che come offerta di acquisto ‘intelligente’.

TRAVELLING AROUND THE WORLD Lounge around from Bali to other famous coastlines The leitmotif of the Roy Roger’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection are the garment-dyed original Balinese prints, either in single or multiple colours. A relaxed holiday mood for shirts, polo shirts, trousers, shorts and swimwear that reinterpret the summer look in an original way following themes like vintage nautical and stripes, denim couture and beachwear with authentic surf shorts printed with photos of popular holiday spots.

The collection also includes single and double-breasted blazers, reversible bomber jackets, cargo pants, nylon-coated jeans and limited edition eco-denim jeans from a zero impact collaboration with Kaweco, the heritage German company.

Following the above mentioned concept, ITS 2015 looked at the subtle balance between the achievements already made possible by technological progress and an imaginary of futuristic extraordinary possible developments. Founded in Trieste, Italy, by Barbara Franchin and developed thanks to her tireless and loving guidance, International Talent Support received 950 projects from 79 countries and selected 40 finalists in the four areas of the event, ITS Fashion, ITS Accessories, ITS Artwork, and ITS Jewelry.

Future has space, freedom, coherence, technology, magic, mystery, love, curiosity, invention. Future also has a soul, a lot of technicolour energy, true or fictional stories to be told. Future lives in harmonious, digital, zen, spiritual chaos, filled with thousand ideas and images.

The Salone degli Incanti in Trieste was the location of the fashion show of the ITS 2015 finalists, including three menswear designers.

Presso il Salone degli Incanti di Trieste hanno sfilato i giovani finalisti di ITS, tre per la moda maschile:

Attila Lajos, from Hungary and Vienna, started from a quote from Macbeth to arrive to two timeless icons, the actor Leonardo DiCaprio and denim, rethought with raw energy and outlining a fine line between finished and unfinished garments.

Inspired by free rider adventures in Antarctica, the French-Swiss Jenifer Thévenaz-Burdett thought about alternative heroes and about lightweight, comfortable, warm, practical multifunctional garment/accessories that allow mobility. As per magic, a bag/backpack becomes a thermo-heated vest/jacket.

Barbara Franchin, who co-presented the evening with Victoria Cabello, argued that we are living through the most interesting cultural aspect of recent years, a blending of masculine and feminine that goes beyond the concepts of unisex and of ‘no gender’, new freedom and new codes that in menswear are very high in quality and in the freedom to create things and to express oneself. “Subscribing to ITS is either spontaneous or through monitoring in schools or thanks to thorough research on the internet. Italian tutors and schools lack educative and cultural skills: the schools are more focused on their bank accounts rather than providing advanced training to those talents with their own identity, capable of creating projects articulated like a movie that includes even the end credits”.

BRING IN THE NEW by Peppe Orrù - ph. Viero/Zanoni In a very short arc of time London Collections: Men established itself as a not-to-be-missed event in the international fashion calendar. The reasons for this swift success are many and includes the very high quality and level of creativity of the many collections on show as well as a calendar filled with a very wide range of established and emerging designers, brands, and labels whose collections cover every single menswear segment. And then, the enterprising approach by the British Fashion Council as well as irresistible appeal of London, one of the most important fashion capitals and most vibrant cities in the entire globe. Burberry Prorsum, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, Paul Smith, Coach, Dunhill, Jimmy Choo, Aquascutum, Belstaff, Thomas Pink, and Pringle Of Scotland, were some of the leading international names included in the official schedule of almost 80 fashion shows and presentations. The calendar also included the likes of J.W.Anderson, James Long, Christopher Kane, Sibling, Craig Green, E.Tautz, to name just a very few of the many interesting collections on show, as well as House of Holland that debuted with its very first menswear collection. London Collections: Men also continued to cultivate its truly international character by welcoming the likes of Dsquared2, which organised an event to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the label, and Tommy Hilfiger, which hosted a private dinner for a selected number of vips and a presentation to celebrate its 30th anniversary. And, as per usual, the calendar was also peppered with labels and designers from all over the world including, among many others, Xander Zhou and Sean Seun from China as well as Tiger of Sweden and Cmmn Swdn, both from Sweden. And following the steps of London Fashion Week, which has a long history of hosting events opened to end consumers, London Collections: Men launched ‘Lcm 10’, a selection of ten appointments open to the general public as a way to involve the city to join in the celebrations.

Le ragioni di questo rapidissimo successo sono molteplici e includono l’altissima qualità e il livello creativo delle tante collezioni presentate ogni stagione, nonché un calendario ricco di stilisti, marchi, etichette affermate ed emergenti le cui collezioni soddisfano le esigenze di tutti i vari segmenti della moda maschile. New York Menswear Act One by Barbara Tassara - ph. Viero/Zanoni The very first edition of New York Men Fashion Week, for the first time detached from the womenswear collections, offered a calendar of about fifty fashion shows and presentations.

In July The Big Apple unveiled the menswear trends for Spring/Summer 2016 focusing on a currently growing and increasingly more important market.

Young labels and locally and internationally established brands, rooted in the American sportswear style, attentive to the latest urban and underground contaminations, contemporary because of the mix of tailoring from across the Atlantic ocean with graphic cuts, soft relaxed volumes or aggressive athletic silhouettes, with touches of colour and ethnic/romantic details. Contemporary urban collections that even from the United States push the accelerator on menswear, on the current extraordinary cultural revolution, on the new markets that menswear preparing to conquer.

New York provided the perfect scenic background for the active boxer fashion by Asaf Ganot, the relaxed voluminous elegance by Duckie Brown, the rock-and-roll attitude by John Varvatos, the sporty/urban looks by John Elliott + Co. Graphic design inspiration for N.Hoolywood and yachting & sailing references for Nautica. Gym silhouettes at Perry Ellis, downtown suburbia at Richard Chai, romantic athletes at Robert Geller and Rochambeau, metropolitan tailoring by Thom Browne and with full colour variants by Tim Coppens and Tommy Hilfiger.

Lo scorso luglio 2015 la Grande Mela ha raccontato i prossimi trend uomo della primaveraestate 2016 concentrandosi sul mercato maschile, di crescente e attuale importanza.

Giovani proposte e marchi affermati a livello nazionale e internazionale, radicati nello stile sportivo americano, attenti alle ultime contaminazioni urbane e underground, contemporanei nel mescolare la sartorialità d’oltre oceano con tagli grafici, volumi morbidi e rilassato o grintose silhouette atletiche, con tocchi di colore e dettagli etno-romantici. Guardaroba urbani contemporanei che spingono anche dagli Stati Uniti l’acceleratore sul menswear, sulla straordinaria rivoluzione culturale ed i nuovi spazi di mercato che si prepara a conquistare.

Nelle scenografiche cornici newyorkesi, si è proposta la moda active boxeur di Asaf Ganot, l’eleganza rilassata e voluminosa di Dukie Brown, il rock-and-roll attitude di John Varvados e l’urban sporty di John Elliott. Here is how the scene of fashion tradeshows in the Hauptstadt changes

by Alessia Vignali “Bread and Butter is dead, long life to Bread and Butter!” This is how Karl Heinz Müller – creator and Ceo of the most stunning sport & streetwear exhibition for 15 years - concludes his leave, with the usual irony, which this time is tinged with disappointment, addressed to journalists and brands, friends and enemies, fans and attackers, after they have witnessed its downfall. No significance for the “guerrilla edition” attempt made in January (with some twenty susteinor brands) in the administration headquarters, nor for the possibility, under temporary receivership, of using the Tempelhof location, a historical Nazi airport, the biggest one in Europe, to reorganize the summer edition. Given the extreme weakness of this edition, the announcement of the providential purchase of the tradeshows made by Zalando rises some uncertainty. It is soon to say if the clever format, conceived under the aegis of “fun & profit” and of a series of lucky marketing ideas, will have a future. We wish this, because as of today the jeanswear, sportswear and causualwear sectors of the market do not have a satisfying covering , though it is much controlled by the competitor exhibitions.

With more than 1.000 exhibiting brands for 1.800 collections, 200 of which are making their debut, Premium is the most significant platform for the summer 2015 session, in terms of numbers. The democratic luxury dedicated to women, men, accessories, jewels proposed through “wearable with twist” collections convinces the buyers and bring an increase by 70% in visits compared to the previous corresponding season with a predominance of domestic visitors (31%), from Southern Europe (40%) , from France and Benelux (20%). The percentage of visits from overseas (12%), Scandinavia (6%), UK Ireland (6%) and Eastern Europe (3%) is less considerable.

“Bread and Butter is dead, long life to Bread and Butter!” Così, con la consueta ironia venata questa volta d’amarezza, si conclude il commiato di Karl Heinz Müller, inventore e Ceo di quella che per 15 anni è stata la fiera più spettacolare dello sport & streetwear di sempre, a giornalisti e brand, amici e nemici, fan e detrattori, dopo che questi hanno assistito alla sua caduta . A nulla è valso il tentativo di “guerrilla edition” tenutosi (con una ventina di brand fedelissimi) a gennaio negli headquarter amministrativi, né la possibilità, in regime di amministrazione controllata, di utilizzare la location Tempelhof , storico aeroporto nazista, il più grande d’Europa, per riorganizzare un’edizione estiva. Data l’assoluta debolezza di questa edizione, la notizia della provvidenziale acquisizione della fiera da parte di Zalando cade in un clima di incertezza. E’ presto per dire se il format geniale, nato all’insegna del “fun & profit”e di una serie di fortunate invenzioni di marketing, avrà un futuro.

Noi ce lo auguriamo, perché a oggi la nicchia di mercato jeanswear, sportswear e causualwear, pur presidiatissima dalle fiere competitor, non ha una copertura altrettanto soddisfacente.

Con oltre 1.000 marchi espositori per 1.800 collezioni, delle quali 200 sono al debutto, Premium è numericamente parlando la piattoforma più significativa della sessione estiva 2015. Il lusso democratico dedicato a donna, uomo, accessorio, bijou declinato in collezioni “portabili ma con twist” convince i buyer e attrae il 70°% di visite in più rispetto alla stagione corrispettiva precedente con una prevalenza di visitatori domestici (il 31%), dall’Europa del Sud (40%) , da Francia e Benelux (20%). Meno rilevante la percentuale di visite da oltreoceano (12%) , Scandinavia (6%), UK Irlanda (6%) ed Europa dell’est (3%).

The section dedicated to denimwear, able to catch the upcoming trends, is outstanding: inspiration from the 70s, passion for vintage and washing, studs applications or golden decorations, laser printings and striped denim. 5 preview, Add, Ash, Bomboogie ,Einstein & Newton, Odeur, Wood Wood present stunning casualwear collections.

Seek, dedicated to a niche man who loves portable research, luxury casualwear, taste democracy rather than luxury democracy, presents 280 labels featuring modern menswear, upper streetwear, refined sportswear, new classic proposals and designers’ collections. It is able to attract +5% in visitors compared to the previous summer edition. This year, womenswear, accessories and the beauty segment complete the offer. Among the new entries, Les Benjamins, a brand from Istanbul which stands out for the cultural clash amidst “vintage” printings and their new ironic or contemporary sarcastic interpretation, and Belans Berlin, which draws successful inspiration from the artistic setting of the Hauptstadt.

As regards Bright, dedicated to board sport s and acquired in July by the group owner of Premium, this edition have been distinguished by development and consolidation. The move to Arena Berlin, nearby the Seek exhibition, has favoured also visitors, who had the chance of viewing fresh and amazing proposals. Here, brands like Altamont, Alva, Ambivalent, Carharrttwork in progress, Cleptomanicx ,Iron Fist, Jaded London, Zoo York dictate the upcoming metropolitan style, besides some lines dedicated to skating by big players like Reebok.

Interessante la parte dedicata al denimwear, capace di intercettare le tendenze prossime venture: ispirazione anni ’70, passione per il vintage e i lavaggi, le applicazioni di borchie o le decorazioni in oro, le stampe a laser e i denim rigati. Interessanti le collezioni casualwear di 5 preview, Add, Ash, Bomboogie, Einstein & Newton, Odeur, Wood Wood.

Seek, dedicata a un uomo di nicchia che ama la ricerca portabile, il casualwear lussuoso, la democrazia del gusto più che quella del lusso, presenta 280 marchi tra menswear moderno, upper streetwear, sportswear raffinato, nuovi classici e collezioni di stilisti. Riesce a ingolosire il 5% di visitatori in più rispetto alla scorsa edizione estiva. Quest’anno il womenswear, gli accessori e il segmento beauty completano l’offerta. Tra le news entry Les Benjamins, marchio di Istanbul caratterizzato dal clash culturale tra stampe “vintage” e loro reinterpretazione in chiave ironica o sarcastica comtemporanea, e Belans Berlin, che trae con profitto ispirazione dalla scena artistica della Hauptstadt.

Per quanto riguarda Bright, dedicata agli sport da tavola e proprio in luglio acquisita dal gruppo titolare di Premium, questa è stata un’edizione di sviluppo e consolidamento. Il trasloco ad Arena Berlin, in prossimità della fiera Seek, ha agevolato anche i visitatori non abituali della fiera, che hanno potuto prendere visione di proposte fresche, a volte in grado di stupire. Qui marchi come Altamont, Alva, Ambivalent, Carharrttwork in progress, Cleptomanicx ,Iron Fist, Jaded London, Zoo York dettano lo stile metropolitano prossimo venturo, accanto alle linee dedicate allo skate di big players come Reebok.
