Clothes for thought More often than not, while watching the Autumn/Winter 2017 collections showcased on the catwalks, as well as in the presentations and in the showrooms, of London Fashion Week Men’s, I found myself wondering about what were the motivations behind cuts that are so unusual. More often then not, I found myself thinking and reflecting about looks that might be challenging. More often than not, I found myself occupied with and preoccupied with multilayered thought processes about fabrics and materials that don’t look like what they really are.

More often than not, I asked myself why sleeves and hems are most definitely too long and if trousers with a flower-shaped waistline will ever become a trend.

More often than not, I remembered precisely what paraded in front of my eyes on the catwalk, as opposed as instantly erasing what I just saw as it has recently been happening more and more.

Because most of the London based designers, established brands and emerging labels decided that it is time to focus on what it is really important and necessary in the world of fashion: innovation, innovation, innovation. A very welcomed and very much needed decision in such times as the current ones when the fashion system seems to be accelerating more and more, when the life span of specific items, and even of entire collections, is increasingly becoming shorter and shorter, when the minute a show is over, most of the times what was shown on the catwalk is already forgotten because entirely forgettable.

London sends a very strong and unmissable message: these are times for clothes that deserve and demand unconditional attention. These are times for clothes for thought.

Una moda che fa pensare Il più delle volte, mentre osservavo le collezioni per l’autunno/inverno 2017/18 in passerella, nelle presentazioni e negli showroom della London Fashion Week Men’s Men, mi son chiesto quali fossero le motivazioni di tagli decisamente insoliti. Il più delle volte, mi son ritrovato a pensare su look che potremmo definire difficili. Il più delle volte, mi son ritrovato a riflettere sull’aspetto inaspettato di tessuti e materiali. Il più delle volte, mi son domandato perché maniche e orli siano così lunghi e se i pantaloni con punto vita simile alla corolla di un fiore diventeranno mai un trend.

Il più delle volte, mi ricordo esattamente ciò che ho visto in passerella, anziché essermi immediatamente dimenticato ciò che avevo appena visto, come, purtroppo, sta accadendo sempre di più di recente.

La ragione di tutti questi miei ragionamenti è il fatto che la maggior parte degli stilisti, marchi affermati ed etichette emergenti di base a Londra ha deciso che è arrivo il momento di concentrarsi su ciò che è davvero importante e necessario per la moda: l’innovazione e la ricerca, su tutti i fronti. Una decisione ben accolta e benvenuta in tempi come in nostri in cui il sistema moda sembra stia accelerando sempre di più, in cui la durata e validità di capi specifici, e perfino di intere collezioni, diventa sempre più breve, in cui spesso e volentieri il prodotto non lascia il segno e viene immediatamente dimenticato perché insignificante.

Londra invia un messaggio molto forte e molto chiaro: sono tempi per collezioni che meritano e richiedono un’attenzione incondizionata. Sono tempi per una moda che fa pensare. www.londonfashionweekmens.co.uk

Haider Ackermann, the new art director at Berluti’s, expresses his creativity in the respect of the maison’s codes and using the Italian house’s technical savoir-faire at its best. The silhouette on the catwalk has a masculine and sensual aesthetics, enlightened by a palette in which electric blue and powder pink alternate to purple and burgundy shake the monotony of the browns and khakis. Turtleneck sweaters are made in cashmere, built with just two seams, and windbreakers have a nylon lining. An aviator style leather jacket has a hint of red crocodile inside the neck matching with the lining, the double breast has eight buttons and the slightly short straight trouser is the leitmotif of the runway show.

Haider Ackermann, nuovo direttore artistico di Berluti, esprime la sua creatività rispettando i codici e utilizzando al meglio il savoir faire tecnico della Maison. In passerella una silhouette dall’estetica maschile e sensuale, illuminata da una palette di colori, il blu elettrico e il rosa cipria si alternano a viola e bordeaux e scuotono la monotonia dei marroni e kaki. In cachemire sono realizzati maglioni a collo alto, costruiti con due sole cuciture, e giubbotti foderati in nylon. Una giacca stile aviatore di pelle ha un accenno di coccodrillo rosso all’interno del collo in coordinato con la fodera, il doppio petto ha otto bottoni e il pantalone diritto leggermente corto è la costante della sfilata.
