What Are The Basic Rules For A Winning Label Or Packaging?

Formal simplicity and coherence in terms of shapes as well as coordinated colours and materials for every detail of the logo, the label, the packaging and every other aspect. We prefer essential streamlined designs and neutral colours because they have a longer shelf life in terms of communication. Tone-on-tone colours are definitely our first choice because they really make a difference. Furthermore, thanks to the introduction of new technologies, we can create truly unique and impossible to copy products.

What Label Would Best Represent You? All of them. Yes indeed, all of them. One for each moment of the day, attitude, occasion, mood. I am very passionate about each and every segment of the fashion system, from casualwear to luxury. Last season, we introduced very advanced production systems such as, for example, embroidery machines that use yarns from the telecommunications division at NASA. Right now, I would go for a digital interactive accessory because of the perfect union of contemporary style and function.

A mesmerising photographic exhibition in London explores the multifaceted world of cross-dressing Rummaging through the bits and pieces, oddments, bric-a-brac and mementoes in car boots sales and second hand shops, in flea markets and charity shops, and needless to say, on the internet, can be a truly unnerving experience. And yet, at the same time, it can extremely satisfying and rewarding, especially when unknown treasures are found. The perfect example of the latter aspect of this type of experience is, without the shadow of a doubt, the extensive collection of photographs collected over a number of years

by Sébastien Lifshitz. The French film director and screenwriter has been painstakingly looking for a very specific type of images: men and women wearing clothes, accessories, hairstyles normally associated with the opposite sex. Lifshitz’s extraordinary labour of love resulted in an equally extraordinary collection of portraits, ranging from the 1880 to the modern day, of

unknown men and women, taken by unknown amateur photographers. Images that, by going against all stereotypes connected to gender, illustrate the cry for freedom and for another identity, as well as ingenious creativity and resourcefulness, by people who will remain unnamed. An anonymity that was necessary at the time when the images were taken since cross-dressing was for a very long time deemed socially unacceptable and completely illegal in most country. An anonymity that feels rather extraordinary in in times like ours, defined by global phenomena like the selfie-mania and social media in general. A wonderful selection of images taken from Sébastien Lifshitz’s collection is on show until June 3rd inthe ‘Under Cover: A Secret History of Cross-Dressers’ at the Photographers’ Gallery in London.

Setacciare e rovistare fra l’infinità di oggetti nei negozi di seconda mano e nei mercatini delle pulci e, inutile dirlo, su Internet, può essere un’esperienza davvero snervante, eppure estremamente gratificante, specialmente quando si trova ciò che si stava cercando. Un esempio perfetto di quest’ultimo aspetto di questo tipo di esperienza è, l’estesa collezione di fotografie trovate da Sébastien Lifshitz nel corso di parecchi anni. Alla ricerca di uno specifico tipo di immagini, il regista e sceneggiatore francese ha creato un’incredibile archivio di ritratti fotografici di uomini e donne che indossano vestiti e accessori, e posano con pettinature e atteggiamenti, normalmente associati al sesso opposto. Una straordinaria passione e una meticolosa ricerca che hanno portato alla creazione di una collezione di fotografie di uomini e donne, la cui identità rimarrà un mistero, scattati da sconosciuti fotografi dilettanti dal 1880 ai giorni nostri. Immagini che, andan-

do contro tutti gli stereotipi legati al gender, sono sintomatiche di un desiderio di libertà e di un’altra identità, ma anche di creatività, genialità e intraprendenza, da parte di persone che rimarranno anonime. Un anonimato necessario giacché il cross-dressing, quando furono scattate la stragrande maggioranza delle immagini, era ritenuto socialmente inaccettabile e considerato illegale nella maggior parte del mondo intero. Un anonimato che risulta essere davvero straordinario in tempi come i nostri, definiti da fenomeni globali come la mania dei selfie-mania e dei social media in generale.

Una serie di ritratti fotografici tratti dalla collezione di Sébastien Lifshitz è in esposizione fino al 3 giugno nella mostra “Under Cover: A Secret History of Cross-Dressers” alla Photographers‘ Gallery a Londra.

A journey through fashion that shapes and reshapes itself in time. Especially with regards to basics, the essential necessary classic items, which have been revisited in an absolutely new key. On the Milan catwalks the search for excellence in terms of craftsmanship, a key characteristic of Italian menswear, remains a factor of crucial importance. Redefining the silhouettes in an athletic yet soft key, the dry lines of performance sportswear and activewear embrace the sensual pleasures of traditional tailoring, reinforcing a bond capable of integrating dissonance and difference. An escape towards new styles, always composed, without ever overdoing the physical aspect, so as to become really elegant. However, the body still remains the main protagonist, even when protected by oversize extra warm deluxe outerwear items, accessorised with macro pockets, collars and hoods. Or, alternatively, characterised by decidedly artistic graphics, prints and draping. The look is at times layered with latest-generation hyper-technical pieces, with nylon and neoprene as partners in crime, for engineered designs and finishes that provide dry, rubberised and waxed effects, sometimes with multiple functionality. Formal jackets and suits are also cross-pollinated with sport/tech and military details, also present in the cargo trousers and the businesswear trousers often matched with handmade sweaters. The palette favours the safety of masculine tones, from opaque absolute black to other traditional men’s colours, with accents of saffron, vermilion, orange and some fluorescent flashes. Among the accessories stand out a refined sturdiness, both for sneakers and for boots, the latter inevitably playing the leading role in every collection. As well as the functionality of bumbags and large backpacks, sometimes flattened and carried over the shoulder. last but not least retro affectations such as the always charming velvet and the aristocratic pocket watches.

Viaggiare attraverso la moda che si forma e riforma con il tempo. Specialmente per quanto riguarda i capi classici di base, essenziali e necessari, rivisitati e di assoluta novità. Sulle passerelle milanesi resta fedele la ricerca di eccellenza artigiana caratteristica italiana, ridefinendo però le silhouette in chiave atletica eppure morbida. Le linee asciutte e performanti del mondo sport e activewear abbracciano i piaceri sensuali della tradizione rafforzandone il legame in un percorso capace di integrare dissonanze e differenze. Una fuga verso nuovi stili, in compostezza, senza strafare sulla fisicità tonica, così da divenire davvero elegante. Comunque il corpo è il protagonista, protetto da capi outerwear ingigantiti e riscaldanti, lussuosi, super accessoriati con maxi tasche, colli e cappucci, viceversa accesi da grafiche, stampe e drappeggi, decisamente artistici. Stratificato con pezzi ipertecnologici di ultima generazione, complici nylon e neoprene, progettazioni e lavorazioni ingegneristiche che danno effetti dry, gommati e cerati, talora con funzionalità doppiate. Giacche e abiti formali sono contaminati anch’essi da dettagli sport-tech e militari, ripetuti nei pantaloni cargo e da lavoro che spesso godono dei piaceri di maglioni fatti a mano. La tavolozza predilige le sicurezze di toni maschili, dal nero opaco e assoluto, ai tradizionali, con accenti giallo zafferano, vermiglio, arancione e fluo. Fra gli accessori spiccano le robustezze raffinate, sia nelle sneaker che per gli stivali, attori immancabili in ogni collezione, la funzionalità di marsupi e zaini capienti, talora appiattiti e a tracolla. Fra i vezzi retrò, piace segnalare l’affascinante velluto e l’aristocratico ‘orologio da taschino’.

Gucci cyborgs: creatures in a process of definition that eschews aesthetic and gender rules and regulation. BOLD AND BRAVE CONTEMPORARY MENSWEAR

A phenomenal intricacy for cuts that create never-seen-before shapes and truly fascinating games of oversize volumes. The preciousness of the materials that continues to hint to the imminent arrival of a new era of sumptuousness. The boldest and most innovative range of multicolour prints and patterns alongside the revival of winter white total looks alongside the ever-increasing importance of the role of solid colours. The omnipresence of high visual impact chromatic choices, mainly thanks to the use of the brightest hues of orange and yellow, secondly thanks to the presence of the richest and deepest hues of teal, petrol, forest green and copper. Once again, London Fashion Week Men’s indicates the way forward for contemporary menswear. Unashamedly bold and brave, the London-based designers showcased wide-ranging collections that are perfect for men who do not intend to go unnoticed. And if at times the styling of the collections shown on the catwalks is indeed too extreme, any buyer who knows how to do their job is going to be able to translate the designer’s vision into a well edited selection of pieces that are bound to sell out in Paris and Beijing, in Tokyo and Milan, in Moscow and Seoul, in Hong Kong and New York, in London and in the rest of the world. Why? Simply because the collections of London-based designers are instantly recognisable thanks to the constant presence of unique original calligraphies. Because, rather than following and mimicking existing trends, London-based designers constantly set new trends. Because, unhindered by the rules and regulations of contemporary merchandising and gifted by unparalleled creativity, London-based designers go where most other international menswear designers, apart from very selected few, do not dare to go at first, and yet are very keen to borrow from at a later stage. Because London-based designers, together with very few international designers, mostly showing in Paris, are indeed re-writing the history of menswear.

L’onnipresenza di scelte cromatiche ad alto impatto visivo, soprattutto grazie all’utilizzo in primis delle tonalità più brillanti e accese dell’arancio e del giallo, e in secondo luogo grazie alla presenza delle più ricche e profonde sfumature di verde acqua, petrolio, verde bosco e rame. Come di consueto, la London Fashion Week Men’s delinea senza esitazioni il percorso futuro del menswear di tendenza.

Spudoratamente audaci e coraggiosi, gli stilisti londinesi hanno presentato collezioni ad ampio raggio, perfette per chi non ha intenzione di passare inosservato. E se a volte lo styling delle sfilate è forse un po’ esagerato, è certamente possibile tradurre la visione degli stilisti, anche quelli più estremi, in una gamma accuratamente selezionata di capi che, è facile prevedere, registreranno il tutto esaurito a Parigi, Pechino, Tokyo, Milano così come a Mosca, Seoul, Hong Kong, New York, Londra e nel resto del mondo. Perché? Semplicemente perché le collezioni create dagli stilisti londinesi sono immediatamente riconoscibili grazie alla presenza costante di calligrafie di stile originali e veramente uniche. Perché, anziché seguire e imitare tendenze pre-esistenti, gli stilisti londinesi creano e lanciano continuamente le nuove tendenze. Perché, non ostacolati dalle regole del merchandising dei nostri giorni e dotati di una creatività senza eguali, gli stilisti londinesi osano. In un momento storico in cui la stragrande maggioranza dei brand internazionali, a parte qualche eccezione, non vogliono osare per primi, anche se non sono di certo restii a “prendere in prestito” in un secondo momento. Perché gli stilisti londinesi, insieme a un selezionato gruppo di stilisti internazionali, che per lo più sfilano a Parigi, stanno riscrivendo la storia della moda uomo.

“Paris is well worth a mass”. An old quote that has never been as appropriate as for this season, at least when it comes to men’s fashion. The physical and economic effort of the latest edition of Paris Men’s Fashion Week was gratified by Autumn/ Winter 2018 collections that communicate a great deal of great emotions in a kermesse that was not only interesting, but also very exciting and very stimulating. Kick-off on Wednesday with some of the brands of the moment, i.e. Off-White™ and Valentino, and then the conclusion on Sunday with the wonderful Lanvin and the beautiful Kenzo fashion shows. In between, a succession of excellent brands like Vuitton, Hermès, Dior, Comme des Garçons, Berluti, Paul Smith alongside new emerging talents or in any case latest generation collections that underlined a sort of ‘nouvelle vague’. A new wave devoted to conceiving new style visions and innovative experimentations in terms of new silhouettes and of new ways of interpreting menswear. Sometimes moderate as in the case of AMI, Acne Studios, Geoffrey B.Small, Sacai, White Mountaneering, sometimes extreme as in the case of the visionary Juun J and Sankuanz. In general, however, we can speak of a realistic eclectic creativity, attentive to the social changes of the moment and willing to go beyond the boundaries of cultural and ethnic differences. This is easily demonstrated by the different sources of inspirations on the catwalks, from references to Texan rodeos and the Wild West to quotes from Far Eastern traditions and decorative details. Basically, the starting point are always the historic must-have items from the male wardrobe, followed by a deconstructing dynamic, revisiting volumes and constructions as subjective interpretations of the collective imagination. A new breath of life and a new identity for classic tartans combined or overlaid with materials such as PVC or patent leather, or when subjected to treatments such as coating or taping. Sportswear, more than ever, overwhelms the formal style codes with the simple aim of bringing menswear closer and closer to concepts like the dynamism of contemporary daily life and of an urban/street reality. The inside becomes the outside of the garments while patchworks multiply together with multiple overlays. The new urban uniforms are more and more decisive and explicit declarations of a free personality and of the willingness to affirm one’s own identity.

“Parigi val bene una messa” non è mai stato così appropriato come per questa stagione, perlomeno per quanto riguarda la moda maschile. Uno sforzo fisico ed economico gratificato da una settimana di presentazione delle proposte per l’uomo del prossimo autunno-inverno 2018/19 che ha regalato grandi emozioni presentando una kermesse non solo interessante, ma eccitante, stimolante. Kick-off già il mercoledì con i nomi del momento, Off-White™ e Valentino, per poi concludere la domenica con un meraviglioso Lanvin e il bellissimo show di Kenzo. Nel resto dei giorni un susseguirsi di nomi altisonanti come Vuitton, Hermès, Dior, Comme des Garçons, Berluti e Paul Smith si sono alternati a nuovi emergenti o comunque a collezioni di ultima generazione che hanno sottolineato una sorta di ‘nouvelle vague’ devota a concepire nuove visioni di stile e ricerca nella sperimentazione di nuove silhouette e di nuovi modi di interpretare l’abbigliamento, a volte più moderati come AMI, Acne Studios, Geoffrey B. Small, Sacai e White Mountaneering, altre volte più estremi, dal visionario Juun J. a Sankuanz. In generale comunque parliamo sempre di una creatività realistica ed eclettica, attenta al percorso sociale del momento così come all’oltrepassare i confini delle differenze culturali ed etniche. Lo dimostrano facilmente le ispirazioni apparse sulle varie passerelle, che hanno spaziato da riferimenti ai rodeo texani e al Far West a citazioni delle tradizioni e ai decori provenienti dal lontano Oriente. Fondamentalmente si parte sempre dal recupero dei capi must del guardaroba storico maschile per poi operare dinamiche di scomposizione, rivisitazione dei volumi e delle costruzioni, interpretazioni soggettive dell’immaginario collettivo. I classici tartan vivono una nuova identità quando abbinati o sovrapposti a materiali come PVC o vernice, o quando sottoposti a trattamenti quali spalmature o nastrature effetto taping. Lo sportswear più che mai travolge gli schemi dei codici formali nel mero scopo di portare l’immagine finale dell’uomo sempre più all’idea di dinamicità quotidiana e di realtà urban-street. Gli interni diventano esterni e insieme alle molteplici sovrapposizioni si moltiplicano gli effetti patchwork. Le nuove divise urbane sono decisamente sempre più esplicite dichiarazioni di personalità libere e di volontà di affermare la propria identità.

For his latest ‘work of art’ for Louis Vuitton, Kim Jones continued in his journey of exploration and discovery by projecting a truly global vision into the collection. For example, by using images taken from a helicopter on Kenya as well as references to the Wild West, Far East quotes, elements borrowed by Texan rodeos, reminiscences of Russia and Siberia, the latter clearly expressed in the inlaid sheepskin jackets and fur coats. An elegant natural colour palette, interrupted by contemporary fluo tones. A constant attention to movement thanks to incursions into sportswear. As defined by Kim Jones himself, “modern looks, found in a classic place”.

Per questa sua ultima ‘opera d’arte’ per Vuitton, Kim Jones continua la sua visione di esplorazione e scoperta proiettando nella collezione una visione globale del mondo, come immagini fatte da un elicottero sul Kenya, riferimenti al Far West ma anche retaggi dell’estremo Oriente. Una palette naturale, elegante, interrotta dalla contemporaneità di colori fluo, una costante attenzione ai movimenti grazie alle incursioni nello sportswear. Citazioni ai rodeo texani ma anche montoni e pellicce intarsiate come reminiscenze della Russia e della Siberia. Come definito da Jones stesso, aspetto moderno trovato in un luogo classico.
