Parcoats Florence Autumn Winter 2019/2020

The first creative and innovative “family outerwear ” capsule collection designed by Giovanni Allegri Two iconic garments brought together, Parkas and Coats.

Giovanni Allegri, an entrepreneur in the Italian sportswear sector, makes his debut at the 95th edition of Pitti Uomo with “Parcoats Florence”, a new brand of outerwear for both men and women. The brand’s first capsule collection consists of 24 pieces inspired by the free-spirited bespoke style of the 1970s and the concepts of recovery and creativity. These rigorously represent the Made in Italy vision and reflect the notions of heritage, tailoring, and sportswear in a contemporary manner, where they continuously and ideally dialogue in unison. Coats that appear cut, deconstructed, reassembled, and melded together are enhanced by details and by daring combinations, but with materials that are based on tradition: wool cloth, Casentino, boucle, nylon fabric, and hightech gabardine. Tapestry patterns and handcreated designs, outside and in, are leitmotifs or else more delicate but still capable of imparting an artistic, non-industrial, intentionally imperfect effect. “Parcoats Florence is an outerwear brand that carries its DNA in its name. A fusion of Parkas + Coats that creates a unique outer garment in a revolutionary manner, combining the classic side of a coat, blazer, and trench with the more casual parka,” explained Giovanni Allegri. “With Masha Brigatti and Simone Guidarelli at the creative helm, contamination and contemporaneity create an intense, unprecedented stylistic dialogue between tailoring and sporstwear, where each piece can be considered unique and different, defined by its strong personality and its own details, which amplify charm and bespoke proposals.”

“It is also the concept of the collection itself that is revolutionized, since it was conceived for the various components of a ‘democratic family’ where everyone, however, maintains his or her own uniqueness”, continued Allegri. “A sort of uniform for a family or friends, yet, at the same time, each Parcoats is also different from the next, thanks to their unusual shapes, which is what truly makes the difference: lengthened or shortened, mixed, cut in different ways, and also with various options fused all together.”

The absolute first collection debuts for FallWinter 2019/2020 with a retail price that ranges between 500 and 1,000 Euros and aims at targeting all the components of a hypothetical virtual family.

Athletic Luxury and Manufacturing Excellence Metamorphosis in volumes bring the luxurious and sartorial elegance of Botto Giuseppe brand to probe the Athleisure territory. The proposals therefore expand to knitwear and to the whole wardrobe, suitable for functional performances for the entire daily living. The tactile and airy appearance is charged with shades of color, shiny or coated through natural cashmere yarns and superfine wool mixed with lurex and sequins or with thicker textures manipulated with special technological treatments.

Each step of the supply chain in the Company based in Vallemosso (Piedmont), from the research of raw materials to the finishes, is carefully monitored to obtain excellent results in terms of products, people and workplaces, most of all when it comes to sustainability ‘.The yarns already tell part of the story, which is certainly deeply rooted in the tradition of craftsmanship and continues in the search for the most reliable partners who share the same vision to protect both the fauna and the environment.

The raw fiber belongs to ‘Naturalis Fibra’, selected from different farms in Asia and Australia, then worked out in the Cascami and Seta plant based in Tarcento (Udine district), property of the Botto family since 1985. Merinos very fine and high quality wools are chosen, for example, in the Congi farm, located 30 km west of Walcha, the largest one in New South Wales, the Australian region that also includes Sydney, using modern technology methods with as many cruelty-free treatment methods as sustainable and certified. In the charming Kangaroo Island, the Bellevista farm brings as much astonishing Merino wool (16-18 microns) with remarkable characteristics in terms of brightness and thickness, thanks to the favorable climatic conditions of this uncontaminated island. The Ga cha farm, another one of the Giuseppe Botto’s partners, is located in the Alashan region of China, where herds of goats live in adverse habitat with very cold winters and torrid summers, producing a fine and soft fleece and refined, very high quality cashmere (fineness between 12 and 14 microns), with direct eco-

friendly agreements with individual breeders in that area. During the processing in Italy, in the plants based in Vallemosso and Tarcento, hydroelectric and photovoltaic energy is used for the production phases, produced by the company thanks to solar panels and cogeneration plants with high thermal energy efficiency for heating departments, while the factory continues to support large investments on the subject of sustainability. Both plants are nowadays almost totally self-sufficient and the production processes are certified by the American ‘Cradle to CradleTM’, subjected to strict controls. Even the delicate phase of natural dyes on yarn and fabrics is improving every season, counting on external certifications, in a global concept encompassing the ‘SlowWool’ and ‘SlowSilk’ projects, emphasizing the name and values of actions and products. Among the upcoming events scheduled for the Fall-Winter 2019/2020 season, Botto Giuseppe is exhibiting at Milano Unica, Munich Fabric Start, Première Vision and, of course, Pitti Filati.

Le proposte dunque si espandono alla maglieria e all’intero guardaroba, adatte a performance funzionali all’intero vivere quotidiano. L’aspetto tattile e arioso si carica di sfumature di colore, splendente o patinato attraverso filati naturali del cashmere e della lana superfine mescolati a lurex e paillettes oppure con trame più spesse manipolato con trattamenti speciali tecnologici. Ogni passaggio della filiera, dalla ricerca della materia prima alla confezione, dell’azienda di Vallemosso in Piemonte, è monitorato nei minimi particolari per ottenere risultati eccellenti in termini di prodotti, persone e luoghi di lavoro, anche e soprattutto dal punto di vista della ‘sostenibilità’. I filati raccontano già un pezzo della storia, che affonda sicuramente le radici nella tradizione artigianale e prosegue nella ricerca dei partner più affidabili che condividono la stes-

sa visione alla salvaguardia degli animali e dell’ambiente. Nelle lavorazioni in Italia, presso gli stabilimenti di Vallemosso e Tarcento, l’energia che si utilizza per le fasi di produzione è quella idroelettrica e fotovoltaica, realizzata dalla azienda, che monta pannelli solari e impianti di cogenerazione ad alto rendimento di energia termica per riscaldamento reparti, e continua a sostenere grossi investimenti sul tema della sostenibilità. Entrambi gli stabilimenti sono quasi totalmente autosufficienti e i processi di produzione sono certificati dall’americana ‘Cradle to CradleTM’ e sottoposti a rigorosi controlli. Anche la delicata fase delle tinture naturali su filo e sui tessuti migliora ogni stagione, con l’arrivo di certificazioni esterne, in un concetto globale di lane e sete ‘SlowWool’ e ‘SlowSilk’ che rimarcano nome e modalità delle azioni e dei prodotti. The Spring-Summer 2019 collection by Damur originates from this concept, and from its graphic element. style. Those who wear Damur are urged to create their own hashtag to tell their unique, individual story where the outfit is an integral part of the message that’s communicated. A fundamental element of Damur’s style is the transversality of gender: clothing designed with a unisex wearability that can be mixed and matched in hybrid combinations and layers. The undisputed leader of the Spring-Summer 2019 collection is denim, reworked and deconstructed to create a 100% indigo total look where a bespoke feel gazes towards the future, proposing unprecedented cuts and silhouettes.

Contrasts, asymmetries, mash-up materials, and colors are deliberately inserted as disturbing elements: denim blends with details inspired by sportswear, and velvet tuxedos meet biker jackets.

AN INTRIGUING MIX The British designer James Long explains his approach at Iceberg If the Spring/Summer 2019 collection

by Iceberg is an “a ode to the past with a vision of the future, my own personal fusion of Italy vs London, sport vs pop, technical vs casual and where cartoons are king and logos are queen”, to quote James Long, then the Autumn/Winter 2019 collection should be summarised as “Technical Mountain Punk”, to quote, once again, the very talented British designer at the creative helm of the iconic Italian brand founded in 1974.

“I have been spending a lot of time in the mountains in the north of Italy, so I am finding very inspiring indeed being between London and that specific part of Italy. I love being somewhere that feels odd and different from the world I know”. Explains James who continues revealing that “of course the forty plus year history of a brand like Iceberg, which I remember very well when I was growing up, plays a very important part. It’s very interesting indeed to study a brand with such an incredible history and then being able to add a new chapter to it”.

Se la collezione primavera/estate 2019 è “un’ode al passato con una visione del futuro, la mia personalissima fusione/scontro italo-londinese di sportivo e pop, di tecnico e casual. con protagonisti assoluti i cartoni animati e i logo”, come rivela James Long a proposito delle proposte per la stagione calda, allora la collezione autunno/inverno 2019 non può che essere definita come una sorta di “Technical Mountain Punk”.

“Sto passando molto tempo nelle montagne nel nord dell’Italia. Adoro essere in un posto che sembra, ed è, così diverso da Londra”, spiega James che continua aggiungendo “naturalmente, la storia ultra decennale di un marchio come Iceberg, che ricordo molto bene quando ero più giovane, ha un ruolo molto importante nel processo creativo e nel mio approccio a questo nuovo capitolo della storia di Iceberg, che è, e continua ad essere, veramente molto interessante e a cui ho l’incredibile opportunità di poter dare il mio contributo”.

LONDON mania A NEW PATH

New directions at London Fashion Week Men’s HELD IN SUMMER 2018, THE EDITION OF LONDON FASHION WEEK MEN’S DEDICATED TO THE SPRING/SUMMER 2019 SEASON CLEARLY INDICATED A BRAND NEW PATH. A brand new direction that could be summarised with a simple sentence: the relevance of elements borrowed by the language of sportswear and streetwear is not as relevant as it has been of lately.

London-based designers and brands have dropped the “ath” from athleisure and focused instead on a deluxe leisurewear based on intricate cuts and constructions, inedited silhouettes and volumes, but most importantly and significantly on fabrics and materials.

Let me explain. London went back to the very first stage of the development of any collection, i.e. the selection of materials and fabrics, and did a truly splendid job.

Think of the handprinted and foil printed fabric created with Chiso, a kyo yuzen kimono printers founded in 1555, and the suiting manufactured by Bower Roebuck, one of England’s oldest mills with a history that goes back to the 16th century, seen at Edward Crutchley. The prints with beautifully manipulated “before and after”

The doublelayered textile created by acid-burning and then ironing a silicon material from the car industry onto check fabrics and striped shirting devised by 3.1 Paradis. The tripleprinted denim and the intricacy of some textiles used by James Long for Iceberg.

The New Path was also very evident when it came to the way the collection were presented. Is the catwalk format as we know it become obsolete? Most certainly not. London Fashion Week Men’s, though, suggested new alternatives. Astrid Andersen, the very talented London-based Danish designer, invited for example a number of very selected guests to an event that was at the same time a static presentation, a pretend fashion show and the photo shoot of the look book of the new collection. A formula that offered the possibility to view the clothes backstage, which was very much though the front of the stage, touch the fabrics, examine the details and finishes while viewing how the models were styled and groomed as the whole experience was happening. You could have not had a more intimate brand experience.

I hope you will enjoy wandering along this New Path as much as I am.

NUOVE DIREZIONI E NUOVI ORIENTAMENTI PER LA PRIMAVERA/ESTATE 2019

ALL’EDIZIONE DELLA LONDON FASHION WEEK MEN’S

TENUTASI LA SCORSA ESTATE. Un nuovo percorso che potremmo sintetizzare in una singola frase: l’importanza degli elementi presi in prestito dal linguaggio dello sportswear e dello streetwear non ha la stessa valenza delle stagioni passate. Gli stilisti e i brand di base a Londra hanno abbandonato la “ath” di athleisure e si sono concentrati invece su un leisurewear di lusso basato sulla complessità dei tagli e della costruzione dei capi e su silhouette e volumi inediti, ma soprattutto su tessuti e materiali.

Il punto di partenza per Londra è infatti di nuovo la primissima fase della creazione di qualsiasi collezione, ovvero la scelta e la selezione di materiali. Con risultati davvero splendidi. Basta pensare ai tessuti stampati a mano con tecnica foil, creati da Chiso, una realtà giapponese che crea kimono kyo yuzen dal 1555, e ai tessuti sartoriali prodotti da Bower Roebuck, una delle aziende tessili più antiche in Gran Bretagna la cui storia iniziò nel XVI secolo, per Edward Crutchley. Le stampe con immagini “prima e dopo” della Nasa che ritraggono la drastica diminuzio-

ne dei ghiacciai magnificamente manipolate da Christopher Raeburn. Il tessuto a doppio strato creato con combustione acido e stiratura di un materiale al silicone dell’industria automobilistica su tessuti a quadri e camiceria a righe ideato da 3.1 Paradis. Il denim stampato tre volte e la complessità delle stoffe utilizzate da James Long per Iceberg.

Un nuovo percorso evidente anche in termine di presentazione delle nuove collezioni. Il formato passerella non è assolutamente obsoleto ma London Fashion Week Men’s ha suggerito nuove alternative. Astrid Andersen, la talentuosa designer danese con sede a Londra, per esempio ha invitato un gruppo di ospiti selezionati ad un evento che era allo stesso tempo una presentazione statica, una sorta di sfilata e il servizio fotografico del look book della collezione. Una nuova formula che ha offerto la possibilità di esaminare i vestiti backstage, in realtà non più backstage ma scena dell’azione, mentre i modelli venivano preparati per essere fotografati dal vivo. Una brand experience di una intimità veramente straordinaria.

Un nuovo percorso che non può che portare il sistema moda a raggiungere nuove straordinarie tappe.

REINVENTING THE PAST THE NEW DEFINITION OF BURBERRY

REDEFINE DISRUPTION PURE MAN AIMS TO HELP THE FASHION COMMUNITY IN TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY

Contrasts and contradictions. New proportions and workmanships for the outerwear with a specific focus on the trench coats, on the quilted pieces, on the down jackets and coats. “I wanted this collection to represent the continuation of the story I started telling in September”, explains Riccardo Tisci about the pre-Autumn/ Winter 2019 collection. A collection that, while introducing new codes and “cementing new themes”, does not forget the incredible heritage of the British luxury brand, as evident in the colour choices and the use of archival prints and typical Burberry materials.

Pure London, the biggest fashion event in United Kingdom that also hosts the menswear-dedicated section Pure Man, intends to “act as an agent of change and help fashion professionals to navigate through the current global issues” in order to help its exhibitors and visitors “to embrace the future”. The trade show hence offers a selection of classic and contemporary menswear brands “designed to suit the modern man” as well as emerging designers, established brands and timeless basic for unrivalled crossover buying opportunities for all retailers.

Contrasti e contraddizioni. Nuovi proporzioni e lavorazioni per i capi spalla con un focus particolare su trench, piumini e quilt. Look assolutamente contemporanei. “Volevo che questa collezione rappresentasse la continuazione della storia che ho iniziato a raccontare a settembre” racconta Riccardo Tisci a proposito della pre-collezione autunno/ inverno 2019. Una collezione che, pur introducendo nuovi codici e “cementando nuovi temi”, non dimentica l’incredibile retaggio del luxury brand britannico, come evidente nelle scelte cromatiche e nell’uso di stampe d’archivio e di materiali tipicamente Burberry.

Pure London, il più grande evento moda nel Regno Unito, intende “agire come un agente del cambiamento e un catalizzatore per aiutare gli addetti ai lavori a giostrarsi fra le attuali problematiche globali” al fine di aiutare espositori e visitatori “ad abbracciare il futuro”. A style that is full of different facets, from the refinements derived from the skilful use of originally manual and traditional manufacturing processes to the ironic imperfections that tell unique stories at Hugo Costa and the social and cultural impact of strong messages at Estelita Mendonça and Maria Gambina. There were those who celebrate their thirty years anniversaries like Miguel Vieira and Júlio Ines Torcato Torcato and those who brought on the catwalk versatile collections, able to combine classic items with sporting details like David Catalán and Nycole, experimentation and innovation like Inês Torcato, art and fashion like Nuno Baltazar, ready-to-wear and customisation like Alexandra Moura.

An event full of surprises over the course of three days, designer label after designer label, established brands after emerging talents. Over thirty catwalk shows in the beautiful settings of Alfândega do Porto, the official location of the event chosen by Associação Nacional de Jovens Empresários (ANJE) and Associação Têxtil e Vestuário de Portugal (ATP), the two organising bodies that are synonymous with culture and modernism as well as image promoters of Portuguese fashion abroad in collaboration with other Fashion Weeks in Milan, Paris, New York, London, Madrid, Barcelona, Istanbul and Vienna.

THE REVOLUTIONARY POWER OF TAILORING In times when “high fashion” continues to appropriate the language of streetwear and sportswear, two worlds that are historically connected with being unconventional and at the opposite spectrum of “high fashion”.

In times when Louis Vuitton has collaborated with Supreme and Ralph Lauren is collaborating with Palace. In times when streetwear and sportswear have become mainstream, what can be considered as alternative and nonconformist?

IL POTERE RIVOLUZIONARIO DEL TAILORING In tempi in cui la “high fashion” si appropria spudoratamente del linguaggio dello streetwear e dello sportswear, due mondi che sono storicamente anti-convenzionali e all’estremo spettro opposto della “high fashion”. In tempi in cui Louis Vuitton ha collaborato con Supreme e Ralph Lauren sta collaborando con Palace. In tempi in cui lo streetwear e lo sportswear sono diventati mainstream, cosa può essere considerato veramente alternativo e anticonformista?

Il magnifico servizio “An (Un)suitable Reflection” del fotografo Sylvain Homo e della stylist Laura Walters, pubblicato nel numero 86 di Sport&Street, sembra avere una risposta. Perché in questo momento è il tailoring ad avere una valenza veramente rivoluzionaria. Soprattutto quando interpretato da Chalayan, Edward Crutchley, Matthew Miller, Alex Mullins, Berthold, Astrid Andersen e Iceberg. Soprattutto quando i capi hanno tagli veramente originali e unici, e optano per tinte unite con tonalità decise di nero e delicate di grigio e beige, illuminati da bagliori di bianco, argento e rame.

MATTEO LAMANDINI: FROM STREET ART TO STREETWEAR The Spring/Summer 2019 collection by Matteo Lamandini was developed in a game of contrasts and in a continuous swing between tradition and innovation. Formal and iconic fabrics, like pinstripes and checks, are at the same time downplayed and emphasised through street art, drawing specific inspiration from the urban graffiti by Jean-Michel Basquiat. The collection offers completely innovative combinations. Trench coats made of gabardine with check inserts, next to informal garments in black or red glossy nylon. Sartorial fabrics emphasised with logo selvedges, flanked by garments entirely covered in graffiti in yellow, red and grey jersey and white denim. The Italian designer confirms his decision to combine tailoring with streetwear.

In un gioco di contrasti, e in una continua altalena fra tradizione e innovazione, si sviluppa la collezione primavera/ estate 2019 di Matteo Lamandini. Tessuti formali ed iconici, come gessati e check, vengono sdrammatizzati e al contempo enfatizzati tramite la street art, traendo particolare ispirazione dai graffiti metropolitani di Jean-Michel Basquiat. In questa linea si presentano accostamenti del tutto innovativi. Trench coat realizzati in gabardine, con inserti in check, accanto a capi informali in nylon lucido nero o rosso; tessuti sartoriali enfatizzati con cimose logate, affiancati da capi interamente ricoperti da graffiti in jersey dalle tinte gialle, rosse e grigio e in denim bianco. Lo stilista italiano conferma le sua scelta di voler coniugare capi sartoriali con lo streetwear.
