Blizzards Kasey Lauer As the season comes to an end, we reflect back on an exciting season. We enjoyed all the snow we could, and are still hunting it down wherever it falls! A few of our gals were able to participate in Matt Entz’s Mountain Skillz Ladies Clinic, which we heard was amazing. We also did a new t-shirt design, which was very well received by all. In recent news, the two Know Before You Go beacon checkpoints have been installed; one of which was donated by The Colorado Blizzards! Although the kinks are still being worked out, we are happy to help ensure the safety of fellow riders. We are looking forward to the season finale Spring Fling event up at Rabbit Ears, which takes place in a few weeks. Keeping our fingers crossed also for more spring storms, because the recent snowfall has been great! This has kept our spirits high in pre-planning for next season. We are working on a summer trail clean up schedule, and our Annual President’s Day Ride is already in the works. We hate to see the season coming to an end, but we will be ready and waiting when the snow starts to fall, whether it’s this season or next.

Suzan Pelloni Our first annual White River Rumble was a great success! Riders came from across the state to brave the 70 mile, high speed endurance race. Probably our most diligent contestants were those in the vintage class. After a fun day in the mountains, we gathered in downtown Meeker for an awards ceremony. Everyone in attendance walked away with cash and prizes. Planning for the 2017 snowmobile season has already begun. Mark your calendars for January 27-29, 2017, for the second annual White River Rumble. We promise an exciting weekend for you in Meeker! Additional classes are being added, more money to be won, club rides and awesome evening events are in the works. We are still enjoying 71 inches of snow on Ripple Creek Pass! If you are looking for some fantastic late season riding, contact us at www.whiteriversnowmobile.com

District 3 Trail Blazers Tom Mason Trail Blazers held our annual potluck dinner and election April 2 at the Columbine Lake Clubhouse. Thirteen people showed up, nine of which were voting members. Charles Stoyer was elected President, Judy Eberly as Secretary, and John Williams became Board member at large. A short meeting was held and we all enjoyed some very tasty food! Snow conditions remain good in the higher terrain as long as you can get there. Grooming was halted for the season April 15 and signs were taken down. There is still some great spring riding to be had if you can get past the parking lot and watch out for areas with open creeks. I would like to take this opportunity to say Thank You to all the folks who have supported me over the past six years as President. It has been a good run, but it is time to let someone with a new perspective take over. I will miss living in Grand Lake and riding from my door, but at the same time it will be nice to tend a garden in Montana. It has been great riding with you all!

District 6 Holy Cross Powder Hounds Lance Trujillo It’s been a great winter for the Powder Hounds. Like most of the state, we saw great snow around Christmas and January, but it tapered off a little in February. We still have more than enough snow to ride in some of the higher areas. We used up our grooming funds quickly and had to resort to club funds to keep our areas open and freshly groomed. The club had a successful year with our annual membership event, SledFest 2015. Chris Burandt was on hand to help us get the year going. He is always gracious in supporting our club and helping to educate our members on the importance of snowmobile clubs. We put a lot of effort into educating the crowd on land management efforts at this event. It seems more and more people are joining clubs primarily to help protect our riding areas. We also had the new sleds from surrounding dealers and had a very successful kick off to the year. This year we made some progress on land management efforts. We worked with the Town of Minturn and gained their support to keep Meadow Mountain and the access areas out of Minturn open. This area is a traditional riding area and our next step is to work with the USFS to change the boundaries of the Travel Management Plan. We are scheduled to meet with the Town of Avon to gain their support in reopening a key access area in the Wildridge home area. This access is important to the many riders in that area and helps reduce the stress on our primary parking lots at Red Sandstone and Muddy Pass (Highway 131). The USFS has been very accommodating in hearing our plea and helpful in structuring a potential plan to move forward. This process is very lengthy as we will have to undertake a NEPA plan and work with several parties. These efforts are the reason many of us have put so much into the club scene. It’s a little depressing to realize that the season is coming to an end again. Many of us are already thinking about the next winter. The Powder Hounds have already starting making plans. We want to enroll more members than ever, organize improved and new events and most importantly... keep our riding areas open! We hope to do our first ever poker run next year. We know that this will require intense organization and we might even contact some of the other clubs that have had success over the years with their poker runs. Keep us in mind if you want to help us organize these events or simply want to enjoy participating. I know I plan on riding until we can’t get to the snow anymore, and I hope everyone else does too. Enjoy the summer and may it be a short one!

Gunnison County Sno Trackers Phil Chamberland

The 2016 annual registration drive.

The monthly club ride at Kebler pass.

Well here we are and it’s April 2016. Time waits on no one. By the time you read this we will have had our last meeting of the season, which was April 13th at the Almont Resort. Our next meeting will be September 14th, 2016. We had another great year as a club. Membership was up significantly from last year and, even better, participation in meetings and club activities was great. As of the end of March we logged over 190 hours of grooming. We anticipate grooming to continue till the end of April so like us on Facebook and you’ll have access to the timeliest information on the club. By the time you read this the trailhead will have been moved to the wye near Irwin but snow from there should still be good for you diehards. For you summer gearheads, the GOATs did some trail work at the Motocross track at Hartman’s up McCabe lane on April 4, 5 and 6. It’s looking great and completely dried out. Where else can you ride dirt bike in the morning and snowmobile in the afternoon. We live in a great spot. We want to give a great big shout out to our snowmobile rental companies for their support of the grooming program and the club. They have been generous as has been our friends at Irwin Backcountry Guides. Its support like this that makes our program so productive in providing some of the best snowmobile trails in the State. While we are at it, a big thank you to Colorado State Parks for administering one of the best snowmobile trails programs in the country. Without them and the dedicated volunteers of the Colorado Snowmobile Association, who insure the program is right for Colorado; none of this would be possible. Whenever you run across some of these people make sure to say thanks. Lastly, as we close out the season, let’s all be thinking about how we can build on our success next year. What events would you like to see? Where would you like to go on a club ride? How can we make our annual membership drive better? Remember the more active we are, the more we get our name out in the community, and the more we help educate everyone about our sport, the more secure our sport and, more specifically, our riding areas will be. Thank you from the board of directors of the Gunnison County Sno Trackers Snowmobile Club to all of you for the great year.

mance and strength of its M Series machines with the ProClimb chassis. One of those podium finishes was scored in Pro Masters Stock by Andy Beavis, who is the Arctic Cat Engineering Mountain Team Leader. “Snow King Mountain is a fast, technical and ever-changing course that chews up and spits down sleds with heartbreaking regularity” said Mike Kloety, Team Arctic Race Manager. “It required racers to watch and study the changing lines, then choosing new ones based on how the rocks and stumps would pitch them and their sled. The name “ProClimb” fits perfectly! I can’t thank and congratulate our racers and crews for the show they put on and the success they achieved.” Team Arctic Race Results from the Jackson Hole World Championship Hillclimb: 600 Stock: 3.
