Interior Ministry spends millions on new contracts at Milipol Qatar As Milipol Qatar 2014 draws to a close, several companies are going home with new contracts in their pockets. Qatar’s Interior Ministry is responsible for at least seven of them, having announced new deals worth 187.7 million QR on day 2 of the exhibition. The biggest contract awarded by the ministry was with Al Hamad Trading Est., supplier of specialized vehicles in Qatar. The Doha-based company has been awarded a contract worth 61.5 million QR to supply 24 fire-fighting vehicles. Al Hamad is already the leading supplier of ambulances and fire-fighting vehicles to the state of Qatar. The company’s clients include hospitals, civil defence, airports and petrochemical industries. French company Airbus Defence & Space won a contract for 36.6 million QR. Airbus D&S will supply the ministry with TETRA radios, which are designed for voice and data communication. Airbus D&S is a division of Airbus Group. The new division is Europe’s number one defence and space company and the second largest space business worldwide. Al-Dar Marine, a Qatari-owned maritime business, has been asked to supply 20 search and rescue RIBs (rigid inflatable hulls) built for the Qatari Coast Guard. They’ll be built by Italian company Sno Yachts in Sardinia.

These 12m long Black Shiver boats have been militarised so all seats and glass have been removed, enabling the vessel to move through the water at more than 55 knots. That contract is worth 34 million QR. Salam Technology in Doha has signed a deal for 22.4 million QR to supply and implement its integrated solutions. Salam Techology is a leading digital infrastructure systems integrator and IT solutions provider in Qatar. GET Group from Doha has been tasked with providing secure drivers’ licences. That contract is worth 16.5 million QR to the company, which specialises in ensuring vital documents such as passports and ID cards are secure and durable. Going home with an order for 9.9 million QR worth of smart cards is Itqan Tech. The Doha-based company is a regular provider of information technology. The ministry has ordered 114 different vehicles from another Dohabased company, Saleh al Hamad al Mana. Founded in the 1950s, the company’s automotive operation is the second-largest player in Doha. The order is worth 6.8 million QR. The Qatar Interior Ministry says it’s pleased with the new contracts – and hints there may be more signed today...
