A Monday that doesn’t just mark the beginning of your time at Aarhus University, but also marks the beginning of a week where you will take a look at all your new classmates, and more importantly, they will take a look at you. But don’t worry. The worst part is already over. The fear of not getting picked for a class, the fear of not liking any of your fellow students, and of cause the fear of breaking the ice is already past. Relax, you are now already in a class, you already know that you don’t like anyone, and you already know that the instructors are there with the ice axe. Everything will be just fine. And Thursday it’s all over, and you will

only have memories from the good stuff, and possibly none from your embarrassing behavior in Klubben. This is where Commerciel Magazine helps you out. During the short week, we will publish four magazines with all the best from the day before, so you won’t forget. In today’s issue you can learn more about Studenterlauget, Commerciel Magazine and different events through the year, so check it out and be prepared. tion, you will get to know your new fellow students, who you will be spending a lot of time with in the years to come.

But is that it? Definitely not! For Studenterlauget, the Introduction Week is a tool specially designed to reduce the uncertainty all new students experience in relation to the start at the university. Therefore, you will also be introduced to the social life at BSS. In that connec-

STUDENTERLAUGET AT A GLANCE

Do You Know Studenterlauget?

Text: Maria-Louise Dueholm Mortensen

Studenterlauget (SL) – the largest student organisation in Denmark - offers discounts with SL Nice Price and free entrance in Klubben, just to name a few. Memberships run for a year and will only cost you 100 DKK. Read on about SL’s nine business areas and learn what you can benefit from SL and your membership.

1.

The Intro Week is all about getting off to a good start, and every year Studenterlauget hires around 100 instruktors to help introduce new students to the technical and social aspects of student life at AU, School of Business and Social Sciences.

2.

The SL Office has two locations – one at Campus Fuglesangs Allé in the S-building and one in Nobelparken’s building 1482. Here you will find cheap solutions for printing, you can borrow adaptors, ask for directions and everything else in between. In other words,

the SL Offices are the places to go if you have any questions, requests or something else; they may not be able answer everything, but they can always help direct you to someone who can.

3.

Business Relations is the business area behind the concept SL Nice Price, which consists of all the deals and discounts that you can collect as a member of Studenterlauget. Most students are not exactly wealthy and thus it is always nice being able to save money wherever and whenever it is possible. For instance, you can get a discount on differ-

ent fitness memberships, save money on coffee at certain coffee shops downtown and so on. Check the full list of SL Nice Price discounts and deals at Studenterlauget’s homepage.

4.

SL Food runs the daily operation of the canteen in the S-building Caf’Inn, ªat Campus Fuglesangs Allé, which offers a new menu each week. Here you will find hot and cold dishes, a salad bar and snacks as well as hot and cold beverages.

5.

Fitness: Dragging your body to the gym has never been easier: You pay per semester and work out as much as you like throughout the semester in rooms located on campus. The old gym is currently closed, but we are working hard on getting new rooms for a new gym. Keep yourself updated at Studenterlauget’s home- or Facebook-page.

6.

SL Bar consists of Klubben at Campus Fuglesangs Allé, Klub. ling in Nobelparken and the Club Klub-events. You can play games, get your readings done or simply have a chat with your fellow students in Klubben and Klub. ling during the daytime. On Fridays, you can enjoy a cold bear or perhaps a Drop Dead Little Bird, which is Klubben’s strong and colourful signature drink.

7.

Commerciel Magazine is a student magazine and was founded in 1959. It aims to entertain and enlighten students on campus. A new issue of the magazine is published each month during the semester, adding up to

a total of eight magazines per year. The magazine offers thrilling interviews with business people, funny guides and howto’s, thought-provoking articles and quirky news from the world around you. Find the magazine around campus – e.g. in Caf’Inn, in Klubben or in front of lecture halls.

8.

Aarhus Case Competition is an annual event for Nordic business-students, where students get to solve real-life business cases. It is both possible to participate in the big case competition, where you will stand in front of top professionals from well known businesses as well as the Aspire Case Camp, where all business students at AU get to solve cases and compete together and against other students.

9.

SL Projects engage in a wide range of areas: It is accountable for the SL Buddy Programme, which connects international students with Danish students. The initiative won a youth price in 2012 because it helps introduce international students to both Danish society and student life. SL Projects also arranges the annual SL Skiing Trip, which takes place in week 5, and last year more than 550 students skied the slopes of Val T together. SL Projects also hosts the Student Life Fair, which takes place from the 11th-12th of September in the S building. The fair introduces companies who can offer cheaper solutions for students – i.e. discounts on insurances, internet access etc.. On the November 9, SL Projects will host Den Gyldne Fugl, which is an Award Show that celebrates students from both a social and a professional point of view. MONDAY // COMMERCIEL MAGAZINE 7
