Each portrait session is packaged in its original studio envelope. Some envelopes may contain one image, and some may contain multiple images—including forgotten portraits that were not chosen for final printing! Each portrait envelope costs ONLY $12, and the more you purchase, the bigger the discount per envelope. Purchasing an envelope transfers copyright ownership of the contents from the historical society to you and enables you to have reprints made legally. “Jesus said, ‘I am the way the truth and the life …” John 14:6 In recent years the term “post-truth” has been added to the dictionary. The term denotes circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion. If we are truly living in the time of posttruth, all the more reason to be grounded in God’s truth.
The point: Jesus is truth personified. Jesus set the standard for truth. Consider John’s account of the gospel and what it says about truth. TRUTH ORIGINATED WITH GOD
“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:17) JESUS TOLD THE TRUTH
“I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen…” (John 3:11).
TRUTH IS REFLECTED IN OUR SERVICE TO GOD

Joyce passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 at her home in Gobles. She was born July 26, 1953 in Plainwell the daughter of Vern and Mary (Adams) Dunklee. Joyce had worked at Murco, Allen Test, Kal-Equip, Plainwell Paper for 22 years and for Welches until she was injured 15 years ago. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a skilled artist and loved to paint and do stained glass. Joyce was a puzzle master and could quickly put together any jigsaw puzzle sometimes doing 3 puzzles a day. She liked fishing especially bass and crappie. Joyce loved spending time with her grandchildren and going to all of their activities. On October 28, 1995 she married Dale Cooper who survives. Also surviving are her children, Bob (Lory) Leslie of Otsego, Scott (Matt) Leslie of Mt. Pleasant, Roxanne (Charles) Blades of Schoolcraft and Timothy Cooper of Marcellus; 11 grandchildren; siblings, Kathy Plotts, Shirley (Joe) Baldwin and Chris Quigley along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, LeRoy and Vern (JJ). According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held from 3-6 P.M., Saturday, October 13, 2018, at her home in Gobles. Contributions in memory of Joyce may be made to the Al-Van Humane Society. Joyce passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018 in Plainwell. Joyce was born February 5, 1930 in Otsego the daughter of Cloid and Mamie (Hintz) Weaver. She was mainly employed with Plainwell Paper and Kal Equip and also worked at several other factories over the years. Joyce enjoyed playing Bingo, bowling, fishing with her husband, she loved animals, especially her dogs. She loved babies and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On June 7, 1947, she married Raymond Rex who preceded her in death in 2010. She is survived by 3 sons, Douglas (Emilia) Rex of Otsego, Kevin (Bridget) Rex of Plainwell and Scott (Kathy) Rex of Otsego, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Joyce was preceded in death by an infant son, David and by her siblings. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Otsego United Methodist Church. Pastor Joe Shaler officiated. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Otsego United Methodist Church. David passed away on October 8, 2018. He was born on August 9, 1945 to Herbert & Lorrayne (Newman) Claflin. David’s family includes his wife of 44 years Candace (Confer); two children: Dave (Ledona) Claflin of Boerne, TX and Kelli (Aaron) McKague of Beaumont, TX; three grandchildren: Brennan Claflin of Dallas, TX, Chelsea (John) Smith of Dallas, Tx and Chase Marshburn of Beaumont, TX; two brothers: Steve Claflin of Yakima, WA and Ronald (Cheryl) Claflin of Mason, MI; three aunts: Melba, Joyce and Marcia as well as a niece, a nephew and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Penny. Memorial donations can be made to Rose Arbor Hospice or the charity of your choice. Kenneth “Mike” SQUIRES AGE 80 - PAW PAW, MI
Mike passed away peacefully Friday, October 5, 2018 with his family by his side. Mike was born August 30, 1938 to Ann and Delbert Squires of Kalamazoo. Mike is survived by his wife Clarice (C.J.) and his two daughters, Melissa (Billy) Shearer of Otsego, MI and Kimberly Cole of Battle Creek, MI, four grandchildren and one great grandchild, Nick Cole, Stephanie Cole, Morgan Shearer, Spencer Shearer and Evelyn Martinez, along with his brother, Jim (Lynda) Squires of Kalamazoo and his sister, Delanne (Bill) Posthumus of Portage, MI, along with many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Ann and Del Squires, and his brother, Patrick Squires of Richmond VA. Mike served in the Army from 1960-1963, he was a graduate of State High and Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Mike retired in 2002 after 33 years as Vice President of Comerica Bank, Inc. While working for Comerica Bank in Muskegon, MI, he taught classes in banking at Muskegon Community College. After retiring, Mike and C.J. moved to Paw Paw where they began construction work on their retirement home on Ackley Lake. Mike and his contractor David Jones, became very good friends. Mike loved to fish and will miss his Wednesday Fishing trips with the “cottage gang” Jim Miller and Larry Shaefer. Mike’s two youngest grandchildren are very active in sports, which became the highlight of their day when they attended a sporting event. Mike and C.J. enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Key West and cruising to the Caribbean visiting Puerto Rico, St. Martins and the Bahamas. Per Mike’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date for immediate family. C.J. would like to thank all who prayed for them in the last few months. She will indeed miss “her guy.” “My dad, “papa” as his grandchildren knew him, was by far the kindest, most patient and generous man anyone could ever know. Those who were lucky enough to have known him loved him dearly. His quick wit and intelligence were greatly admired by all. He adored his family and friends. He loved telling me stories of his fishing adventures with his great group of close friends. He never missed a chance to watch his grandchildren play sports and let them know how proud of they made him. He was the greatest dad I could have asked for. We shared many special vacation days on the lake. We will all take away wonderful memories of an outstanding human being.” Love-Melissa, Billy, Morgan and Spencer. Ronald NORLAND AGE 83 - PLAINWELL, MI
Ronald passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018. Ron was born on July 16, 1935 and was the son of Neal and Heartha (Tvilling) Norland. Ron attended Highland Park High School. After high school he was a paratrooper in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany in the 1950’s. He married Marlene Chrisholm, and he worked for Household Finance. When he retired he moved to Plainwell. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting at his hunting camp in Onaway, Michigan. He was an active member of the Plainwell Rotary for over 30 years and served as president for several years. He led the Plainwell Rotary highway pick-up project for more than 20 years. Last year he was honored as a Rotary Hero. He had been active in the Pine Lake Association, and served as president for several years. Ron is survived by his sister: Nancy Norland Benn, of TN; three nieces: Sharon Racke Cohl, Sallie Racke Inch, and Suzanne Benn-Pardi; three nephews: Cliff Racke, Keith Racke, and Jason Benn. Ronald is preceded in death by his wife Marlene; parents: Neal and Heartha Norland; one sister Norma Norland Racke. There are no services scheduled at this time.
