We asked local car care expert Jeff Meyer from Pro Automotive Services in Plainwell to share some tips that will help us avoid some commonly overlooked maintenance probems. Along with the regular maintenance all cars need as the winter approaches, here are some of his recommendations. With a lot of manufacturers using a timing belt design on today's engines, the recommended service intervals are crucial for engine longevity. Automakers suggest that these belts should be replaced between 60,000 and 100,000 miles. (Recommended mileage for replacement can be found in the owner's manual of the vehicle or check with a local repair facility.) If overlooked this can lead to costly repairs. In some cases engine replacement may be necessary. Average timing belt replacement runs between $200 - $500. That beats the thousands of dollars you would spend if the engine is compromised. When doing routine timing belt maintenance it's also highly recommended to inspect and

“PLAYING SECOND STRING”

(Parable of the Talents) Matthew 25:14-30 In our Lord’s story of the talents, a man prepares to take a long journey, but before he leaves he entrusts his money (talents) to three trusted employees to manage it for him. To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one. Upon his return, the owner (God) was pleased with the first two men who doubled his investment but was harsh with the one talent man who was afraid and hid his money in the ground, condemning him to hell. Judgment falls not on the one who tries and fails but on the one who fails to try. Most preachers rightfully expand the meaning of the word “talent” to include all of our God-given gifts and talents with the common “Use it or Lose It” theme. In this parable it is not about the number of talents we have but how well we use them for the glory of God. I would like to focus on the two-talent person. This person is the person who plays “second string” or “second chair” or “vice president” if you will. He/she shows up for practice every day, does his/her homework, turns in assignments on time or shows up for work every day but does not receive the attention that others receive. Notice Jesus did not say, “Well done you good and successful servant.” He said, “Well done you good and faithful servant.” Thus, the joy of the Lord is found in faithfully serving Him. Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to use our talents, however many, to bring You glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Peace to you and please join us for worship this Sunday in a church where Jesus’ love is lived. Obituaries Mark R. WAGERS AGE 64 – HOPKINS, MI

Mark died Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Borgess Hospital. He was born June 19, 1949, in Allegan, the son of the late Raymond and Joyce (Hunt) Wagers. Mark graduated from Allegan High School in 1967. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. He worked at Rockwell for over 13 years, and at Plainwell paper for 13 years. Mark also owned and operated Quality Finished Construction. He was a member of the Chicora Country Chapel. Surviving are his wife, Wanda; 2 children, Ashley Wagers, and Kyle Wagers; 2 sisters, Joy and Buck Hannah, Merry and Mark Ondersma, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Ryan, his daughter, Sheila, and his brother, Gary. Gorden Funeral Residence Allegan Chapel Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 8th with Pastor Herb Curry officiating. Interment at Lindsley Cemetery, Cheshire Twp. Memorials may be made to the Chicora Country Chapel.
