“QUIET FAITH” (The Forgotten Man of Christmas) “… Joseph her husband was a righteous man…” (Matthew l: 19)
Little is known about Joseph, foster father of Jesus. Here is what we do know about him: • Born of royal descent (Luke 2:1-5). • A righteous man (Matthew 1:19). • Listened to God (Matthew l: 20). • Named their son (Matthew 1:21). • Obeyed God (Matthew 1:24). • A carpenter by trade (Matthew 13:55). • With their 12 year old Son in the Temple (Luke 2:41ff). • Is not mentioned in the accounts of Jesus’ public ministry and presumably died at a young age.
Here are some words that describe our image of Joseph – common, hard-working, pious, kind, considerate, protective. The image of Joseph guiding the donkey upon which Mary rode over rough terrain during the eighty or ninety mile journey to Bethlehem is etched in time and memory for the ages. The picture of Mary and Joseph at the manger is central to our image of that first Christmas. It has been depicted on canvas, Christmas cards, the silver screen, jewelry, poetry and song for more than twenty centuries. But no words are spoken. Mary speaks (Luke l: 26ff) but Joseph is a man of action, not words. Joseph was a man of quiet faith. In the words of Scripture, love is not “a noisy gong or clanging cymbal” (I Corinthians 13:1). In another passage Apostle Paul says, “Let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel” (Colossians 1:10). In the words of Francis of Assisi, “Preach the gospel at all times. If necessary, use words.” Prayer: At the end of the day, dear Lord, may we be found righteous in Your site. Amen.

Joan Rita BONIFACE AGE 88 – DELTON, MI
Joan passed away, December 5, 2015, at her home with her family at her bedside. Joan was born May 20, 1927 in Plainwell, Michigan the daughter of Albert and Evon (Buhren) Warnement. A 1945 graduate of Plainwell High School, Joan attended Nazareth College; majoring in music. An accomplished seamstress, Joan enjoyed traveling, and she loved music, sharing her talent by giving piano and organ lessons for years. As one of the founding families of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Delton, Joan was very active at her church where she played the organ for over sixty years, and her family sang in the choir. On January 8, 1949, at St. Margarets Catholic Church, Otsego, Joan married the love of her life, Lloyd B. Boniface, who preceded her in death on June 28, 2008. From this marriage they were blessed with eight children: Michele (Yoshiaki) Tsuji, Yvonne (Jerry) Novotny, Theresa Drew, Gerard Boniface, Maurio (Melissa) Boniface, Alicia (John) Abbott, Janine (Ralph) Decker, and Kevin (Janet) Boniface. Joan is also survived by brothers, Albert (Sally) Warnement, and Paul Warnement, a sister, Louise Gates, a sister in law, Vivian Warnement, thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Joan was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Francis, Edward and Bernard “Bud” and a son in law, Donald Drew. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated, Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Delton. Rev. Fr. Matthew Manalel, celebrant. Private burial will take place in Prairieville Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions to Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, Wounded Warrior Project, or Sisters of Saint Joseph will be appreciated. AGE 70 – OTSEGO, MI Thomas passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at his home. He was born November 4, 1945 in Kalamazoo the son of Merle and Mary (Renbarger) Clark. Tom had worked at KTS Industries, had done some logging up north and for several years had been employed by the City of Kalamazoo in the wastewater department. He loved target shooting, was a member of the NRA and enjoyed following Fox News. Surviving are his sisters, Mary L. Clark and Nancy (Roger) Kortokrax both of Otsego along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul and Merle “Jim” Clark. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, December 11, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego with Fr. Donald Klingler officiating. Burial will follow at the Eden Township Cemetery in Irons. Arrangements by Winkel Funeral Home Messages of condolence may be posted at www.WinkelFuneralHome.com

AGE 57 – KALAMAZOO, MI Larry passed away December 5, 2015 in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born March 2, 1958 in Allegan, MI to Sandra Culver and Ray Quarry. Larry is survived by his son, Michael Quarry; mother, Sandra Culver; sister, Brenda Weymouth; and nephew, Matthew Quarry. He was preceded in death by grandparents, George and Laura Werner and Bill and Pearl Boucher; father, Ray Quarry and brother, Kenneth Quarry.
