Steven Christopher Benson was born on September 2, 1966 He was the second of five children born to Rupert and Bonnie Benson of Plainwell, Michigan Steve passed away Friday, December 9 at the age of 56 with his girlfriend and soulmate Veronica by his side Steve had a wonderful childhood and adolescence growing up in the community of Plainwell and living on 8 acres of rolling meadows in the beautiful countryside The neighborhood was full of other children and great friends Steve attended and graduated from Plainwell High School in 1984 While he did not compete in high school athletics, he was considered to be an excellent athlete in everything he tried He was known to be the finest wiffle ball pitcher in the neighborhood and could very rarely be hit off of He went on to complete his undergraduate studies at Western Michigan University and graduated with honors achieving Cum Laude status and graduating with cords From there Steve went on to the Cooley Law School and finished first in his class Steve then transferred to the University of Tennessee Law School, receiving his law degree and finishing second in his class He became a successful criminal defense attorney for many years in the Big Rapids, Michigan area Steve met his girlfriend Veronica Park in 2008 Their relationship grew and they started dating in 2013 Steve moved in with Veronica in 2014 and they enjoyed life together since They were both avid football fans with Steve’s favorite teams being the Dallas Cowboys and Alabama Crimson Tide Veronica shared his passion and love for Alabama Steve often boasted of Alabama and he constantly wore Alabama attire to display his passion They displayed their Alabama decorated Christmas tree year-round in their living room next to his favorite chair Survivors include his parents Rupert and Bonnie, siblings Brian, Tim, Rod and Katie along with 15 nieces and nephews and his girlfriend and soulmate Veronica Park There will be a private celebration of life for Steve in the spring

Tirzah passed away, Thursday, December 8, 2022 at her home in Otsego She was born October 2, 1959 in Long Beach, California, the daughter of James and Laura (McGilliard) Quy Tirzah earned a Master’s Degree in French Language from California State University Long Beach, following earlier studies at the University of Utah and Long Beach Community College, and was a teacher of French and English as a second language, as well as a translator On July 11, 1987 in Long Beach, she married Lawrence Blackman, in a Japanese garden on the University campus Tirzah enjoyed ballet (she met her husband at a Ballet Barre), choreography, yoga, all kinds of bookstores and their cafes, beekeeping, zoo visits, intensive reading, piano, classical music including opera, raising a world-class frisbee dog (Border Collie), raising an energetic Australian Shepherd, and showing her Shetland Sheepdog and Finnish-Spitz dogs at AKC shows Tirzah had an adventurous spirit and loved traveling with her husband across Europe, Canada, the South Paciﬁc and South America She loved astronomy, and followed total solar eclipses to both the beaches of Aruba and the Atacama Desert in Chile She had a strong background in the liberal arts and thus enjoyed sharing deep literary, theological/ biblical/ historical and philosophical discussions with her technical husband Tirzah had a strong independently-focused outlook on faith, was a free thinker and was always mindful of her Catholic upbringing Tirzah and Lawrence spent more than 35 wonderful years together following dreams and dramatic skies, having adventures in the arts and beyond, and creating a beautiful life together Also surviving are her sister Carol, of California, along with several nieces, nephews and extended family members She was preceded in death by her parents According to her wishes cremation has taken place Contributions in memory of Tirzah may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Christmas Is Good News, Not Good Views Chr istmas goes beyond human opinion The bir th of Chr ist is to be celebrated, not debated The good news is that Jesus saves! The only way to explain Chr istmas is to say “God loved the wor ld so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that ever yone who believes in him will not per ish but have eter nal life” (John 3:16) We do not have to live with guilt We do not have to live with shame We do not have to live with remorse We do not have to live with regret The good news (“good tidings of great joy”) is that God became one of us so that we might be at one with God The plan is quite simple Confess our sins to Him and live for Him

was the secret wor k of God She is still residing with her parents as they have not yet delivered her to Joseph to be marr ied Joseph needed to be prepared to take in this astounding news The preparation was akin to Moses hear ing God’s voice in a bur ning bush or Abraham greeting God in his tent, or Noah hear ing the voice of God calling him to build an ar k Like these men, Joseph was seen as a r ighteous and honorable man When he encountered an angel sent by God it changed him, and he welcomed Mar y’s news I don’t think Joseph gets enough credit for his actions in defending his love for Mar y He put aside his pr ide and ego and stood by her He clear ly was a man of humility, and was gentle and full of mercy for Mar y and her entire family (Read Deuteronomy 22:19-24 to see what could have happened ) I pray we all encounter baby Jesus this Chr istmas mor ning and put down our pr ide and ego and receive his love Let us all be more tolerant, merciful, and compassionate Let’s praise our Lord Jesus I encourage you to find a safe, loving church, where you can praise God this Chr istmas It might change your life
