The Barbed Wire Cafe building has a rich history dating back to approximately 1932 when the original building was rolled in on skids, later becoming the Plainwell Diner. Also, the property includes what used to be an adjoining bait shop which housed the old popcorn stand from

across the street. Barb and Gary made a point to keep many Plainwell artifacts displayed in the diner and chose the barn design as a nod to the farming community in our area. Barb adds that she actually grew up just four blocks away from the cafe site and currently they live nearby in the Cooper area. If you want to support a local business that has many roots in the community, here you go!

The Barbed Wire Cafe cooks primarily from scratch, avoiding most pre-mixes. They invite you to check out their menu which includes favorites like meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, bananas foster crepes, bologna sandwich and homemade soups and chili. “LESSONS FROM THE WISE MEN”

By Rev. Dan Minor - revdminor@att.net _____________________________________ “After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, ‘Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?” (Matthew 2:1)

What can we learn from the ancient Magi who came with their gifts for the Christ child? Short answer: Plenty! Among other things, they were men skilled in philosophy, medicine, astronomy and natural science. They were also known for their wisdom. Let’s take a closer look. 1. THE WISE STILL SEEK HIM

God invites us to seek Him (Isaiah 55:6). The promise is that all who seek God shall find Him! (Matthew 7:7). God is closer than we may think. It is said God is closer than breathing, nearer than hands or feet. In other words, we do not have to look very far to find Him. 2. THE WISE WORSHIP HIM

Whatever their origin; their motives were clear: “to worship the new born king” (Matthew 2:1). Jesus said, “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart (I Samuel 16:7). Jesus condemns those who make a show of religion (Matthew 15:8, 9), but honors those whose motives are pure (Matthew 5:8). 3. THE WISE SEEK GOD’S WISDOM

After offering their gifts to the Christ child, the Magi exercised wisdom by listening to God in a dream, returning to their country by another route and thereby escaping certain death (Matthew 2:12). Since God possesses perfect knowledge (Omniscience), we can count on Him with every decision and in every circumstance of life. Seeking godly counsel is not only the wise thing to do but the right way to live. One can acquire Godly wisdom by specifically asking for it (James l: 5).

Kevin A. GOOD

AGE 59 - OTSEGO, MI Kevin passed Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo due to a brain aneurysm. Kevin was born in Troy, Ohio on September 3, 1959 to Roger A. and Janet (Sotherland) Good. Kevin graduated in 1977 from Cripple Creek –Victor High School in Cripple Creek, Colorado. Kevin met his wife, Ronella (Wilheim) Good in Cripple Creek where they were married on July 18, 1981. Kevin worked as a maintenance manager for the last 32 years at different large bakeries. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and dirt track car racing. Surviving are his wife, Ronella Good of Otsego; daughters, Nicole (Ryan Osmun) GoodFrank and Megan (Eric Snyder) Good both of Otsego; son, Kencil (Ashley Brown) Good of Kalamazoo and 3 grandsons, Jason Frank Jr., Austin Frank and Mason Good. According to Kevin’s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Otsego Church of God. Michael D. BRONSON AGE 71 - ALLEGAN, MI

Mike passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo from complications of heart and kidney failure and COPD. He was born on August 12, 1947 in Plainwell, the son of Elwin and Virginia (Campbell) Bronson. Mike proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart Medal. For many years he had worked at Parker Hannifin. Mike was a devoted Detroit Lions and Tigers fan and enjoyed motorcycles, wood carving and model planes. He was also active in the VA program for those suffering from PTSD - he received help for himself and he was able to be a mentor for others. On April 11, 2006 he married Judith Hiemstra who survives. Also surviving are his son, Paul Bronson and granddaughter, Hollieh Bronson. Mike was cared for in his later years by Allison Whitmore who was like a daughter to him. He is the beloved brother to Mary (Randy) Lober and Sherri Bronson, Uncle to Joe (Kecia) Bronson and Sarah (Chris) Lake and great uncle to 5 great- nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his cat, Festus. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Mark Bronson. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. Debi passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at her home in Otsego. She was born January 9, 1967 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Gary and Sandra (McLaughlin) Zantello. Debi enjoyed cross stitching, reading, especially Stephen King books and collecting angel figurines. Surviving are her sons, Tyler Nowak of Otsego, Matthew (Lyndsey) Nowak of Allegan and Zachary Landrum of Otsego; grandson, Bryce Nowak; her mother, Sandy; sister, Terri (Brad Smith) Zantello of Traverse City and grandmother, Betty McLaughlin. She was preceded in death by her father. Cremation has taken place. Contributions in memory of Debi may be made to St. Margaret Catholic School.
