Virginia D. Schlaack passed away January 4, 2015, at Life Care of Plainwell. Virginia was born October 17, 1922, in Plainwell, the daughter of Harold and Ethyl (Baker) Meacham. She was a retiree of Sears in Kalamazoo, where she was a telephone operator for over thirty years. In September of 1976, she married Clinton Schlaack, who preceded her in death on July 9, 2002. Virginia is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by brothers: Richard and Donald Meacham, sisters: Beatrice Burhans and Betty Gelbaugh. A graveside service was conducted at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Plainwell will be appreciated. Sandi passed away peacefully Thursday, January 8, 2015 at her home in Plainwell, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 6, 1952 in Allegan, the daughter of Donald and Sylvia (Ives) McKeown. For over 30 years she had worked at Parker Hannifin in Otsego. Growing up she enjoyed spending time at the Kalamazoo Speedway. Sandi liked going to the casino, visiting lighthouses, playing bingo, dominos and other games with her friends. Recently she got to enjoy her first motorcycle ride and was able to check that off her bucket list. Most of all Sandi loved spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving are her sons, Merritt (fiancée, Tabitha Emmons) Bush III of Allegan and Michael (Stephanie) Bush of Otsego; 6 grandchildren, Michael T. Bush, Mathew A. Bush, Stephen M. Bush, Nathan R. Bush, Dylan R. Bush and Austin R. Emmons; mother, Sylvia McKeown; sister, Judy (John) Stopa; and by Melanie J. Bush, Dennis B. Cornelia, several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Preceding her in death are her father, Donald; and her brother, Robert McKeown. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Obituaries Marian A. SANDAHL AGE 91 – ALLEGAN, MI

Marian died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Sandahl was born December 6, 1923 in Allegan to Harvey and Margaret (Yackley) Dunfield and was a lifelong resident of the area. During WWII she served in the Nurse Corps in the U.S. Navy. In 1947 Marian graduated from Nazareth College earning her R.N. degree. She was employed with Borgess Medical Center and Allegan General Hospital and then as the school nurse at Otsego High School. In her leisure time she enjoyed flower gardening, reading, bird watching, cooking and baking. On October 5, 1947 in Grand Rapids she married Wilfred Sandahl who died in 2007. Also preceding her in death were an infant sister, Deanna A. Dunfield and her brother, Allen Dunfield. Surviving are her children, Jim (Gail) Sandahl of Allegan, Sue (Richard) Andrews of Winter Haven, FL, Charles (Trinka) Sandahl of Missouri City, TX, Joseph Sandahl of Allegan, Edward Sandahl of Plainwell and Richard Sandahl of Allegan; 8 grandchildren, Kathy, James, Julie, Todd, Sarah, Christopher, Shawn and Justin; 12 greatgrandchildren. Funeral Services were held Monday, January 5, 2015 with Pastor Rodney Hill officiating. Burial followed at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Allegan. Cynthia ‘Cindy’ C. PETROWSKY AGE 57 – HOPKINS, MI

Cindy passed away Friday, January 2, 2015 at Wings Home in Allegan. She was born November 1, 1957 in Kalamazoo to Ernest and Ruth (Baldwin) Keckler and was a longtime resident of the area. For many years she was employed as a nurse’s aide and medical technician. She loved taking care of people. In her leisure time she enjoyed baking pies and cakes, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandson. Her favorite pastime was ‘junking’ with her sisters and had collected over 1,000 Cabbage Patch Dolls. On June 25, 1973 in Grand Rapids she married Michael Petrowsky, who survives. Also surviving are her son, Brad Petrowsky of Hopkins; her grandson, Michael ‘Mikie’ Petrowsky; siblings, Rose, Ernie and Tina; a half-sister, Danielle; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael in 1996. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego Hospice Chaplain Greg Carlson officiated. Carrie passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015 at her home. She was born in Otsego June 27, 1921, the fifth of eleven children of Charles and Ida (Herbst) Kling and was a longtime resident of the area. For many years she was employed as a linotype operator with the Otsego Union before moving to Midland and working for the Daily News for 12 years. Carrie was a faithful member of Peace Ev. Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday School. In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing and ceramics. Surviving are her sister, Irene Haas, of Otsego, and Irene’s children, Gordon (Nora) Haas and Eda (Bill) McNees; a grandniece, Olivia (Craig) Orndorff of Harrisonburg, VA; a brother, Richard (Ann) Kling of Plainwell; sistersin-law, Glenda Kling Of Olivet and Shirley Kling of Plainwell; a grandson, Cody (Dana) VanSparrentak and their son, Ebon, of Otsego; and a dear friend, Janet VanSparrentak; many nieces and nephews;. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters and 5 brothers, Esther (Bill) Peterson, Minna (Norman) Pike, Carl (Irma) Kling, Alice (Clare) Drake, Ray (Wanda) Kling, Ed Kling, Lenard (Patricia) Kling and Don Kling. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Peace Ev. Lutheran Church, Otsego, Pastor Mark Gieschen officiating. Burial followed at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Larry passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 3, 2015 in Kalamazoo. He was born in Kalamazoo, MI on September 1, 1962 to Larry and Sandra (Cushing) Crawford. He had owned and operated Otsego’s Glass Source and most recently had been employed by Safelite Auto Glass. Larry enjoyed most sports including softball, racing at the Kalamazoo Speedway, drag racing, bowling and following UFC, NASCAR and the Detroit Lions. He also liked to hunt and fish, play the drums and sing. He was a skilled handy man, gifted woodworker and his sarcasm will be greatly missed by all. Larry’s biggest joy was his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his children, Larry L. (Crystal March) Crawford III, of Otsego, Chelsea (Kevin) Brown, of Maple Grove, MN, Candice (Josh) Fritz of Bloomingdale, Ashley, Megan and Kaitlin Donlin, all of Kalamazoo; his granddaughter Hallie Brown and the three grandchildren that are due this year; his wife, Joy; parents, Larry and Sandra; siblings, Randy (Jody) Crawford, Annette (Rick) Liskovec and Chris (Cheryl) Crawford, all of Otsego; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and by his close friends Jeff Watkins and John Spitzner. Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego with Pastor Luke officiating. Cremation took place. RV passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at his home with his family at his side. RV was born May 20, 1927 in Mecosta County, the son of Wynter and Allie (Sharp) Bacon. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. RV loved farming before his health problems. On December 23, 1950, RV married the love of his life; the former Lucille LaFountain who survives. RV is also survived by his children: Connie and Craig Bailey, Toni Jordan, Karen and Dave Howard, Pam and Dave Root, and Dan Bacon, all of Plainwell; a sister: Beverly and Mike Pressler, a special sister in law: Pat Bacon, his ninety seven year old mother in law: Loretta LaFountain, sixteen grandchildren, thirty eight great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. RV was preceded in death by his parents, sons: Timmy Bacon and Robert Bacon, a daughter: Deb Ballinger, a son in law: Derald Jordan, a grandson: Jimmy Jordan, a great grandson: Robert Hodges, and his siblings: Adeline Boysen, Beatrice Anderson, Marjorie Bacon, Don Bacon, Pauline Jones, and Jim Bacon. AGE 70 – BATTLE CREEK, MI Attorney Paul R. Levy, 70, the former Battle Creek City Attorney, died at Bronson at Home Hospice Residence on Friday, January 2, 2015. Paul was born January 26, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to Hyman and Christene (Patchet) Levy. As a teenager, Paul moved with his family to Otsego, Michigan where he was a 1961 graduate of Otsego High School. After marrying Martha Ellen McConney on August 14, 1965, he received a Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University in 1966. Paul taught briefly in the Bellevue and Marshall School Districts before returning to school to study law. He earned his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1972. That same year, Paul and Martha welcomed a baby girl, Elizabeth. Paul worked in the Vandervort, McFee, Carpenter, and Christ Law Firm after graduation from law school before starting his own private practice. In 1974, Paul and Martha welcomed a second baby girl, Rebecca. Upon closing his private practice, Paul became the first full time City Attorney for the City of Battle Creek, retiring in 2000, after 17 years. One of his favorite quotes while practicing law was: “Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.” During his time as an attorney, Paul was an active member of the Calhoun County Bar Association, Michigan Bar Association and American Bar Association. As a member of the Michigan Bar Association, Paul chaired the Corporation Law Section and helped write legislation on Civil Infractions. He was also active in issues relating to Domestic Violence. In his spare time, he made kayaks, wood strip canoes, and paddles. He enjoyed the outdoors, canoeing, camping, skeet shooting, reading, woodworking, cooking and photography. He loved mastering new skills. Paul is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marti; two daughters, Elizabeth (Allen Gurney) Levy of Portland, OR, Rebecca (Peter) Beronja of Richland, MI; two grandchildren, Samuel and Riley Beronja; a brother, Richard Levy of Otsego, MI; and his beloved hunting dog Quigley Smudge. Paul’s family will receive friends at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2015. Interment will be held at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego, MI at a later date.
