Check out the pictures…a car cannot drive up to a box with 2 feet of cleared space. Test if out yourself! Drive up to your mailbox, then continue down the road.

The Otsego District Library currently is hosting an exciting 9-hole, indoor, storybook-theme mini golf course! The course is open during all library open hours January 12-30. Anyone can play for $1, children under 2 are free. The golf course is part of an ongoing effort to raise funds for the Library Cat Sculpture by Rosetta. Local businesses and groups acted as sponsors of a hole, including: Otsego/Plainwell Home Depot, R & A Water Features and Landscaping, Cornell and Associates, Otsego VFW Post 3030, Community Shoppers Guide, Triponds Family Camp Resort, Car Zone, Dover Environmental, and the Otsego District Library Friends of the Library. Hole themes include: "Frozen", "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", "Hunger Games", "Diary of a Wimpy Kid", "Dr. Suess", and more. "Our mini golf course has three purposes: first, it is a fun winter family activity - something we hope patrons of all ages will enjoy, second, it is a fundraiser for our Library Cat sculpture, and finally, as with all of our library programs, we hope to draw in many new and familiar faces to play the golf course but also to check out the great resources the library has to offer while they are here!" says Library Director Andrea Estelle.

David passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at his home in Alamo. He was born August 12, 1933 in Alamo Township, the son of Grant and Letha (Newton) Pomeroy. For many years he was a machine operator for GM at Fisher Body. David enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing music, collecting, golf, and woodworking. He was a man of many talents. On January 31, 1958 in Otsego he married Sandra Strong who survives. Also surviving are his children, Dan (Marcia) Pomeroy and Chris Boyett both of Otsego; 4 grandchildren, Morgan (Chris) Teich of Mattawan, Mackenzie Pomeroy of Rockford, Matthew (Jessica) Boyett and Jenifer Boyett both of Otsego; 1 great-grandson, Elliot Boyett; his siblings, Garold Pomeroy of Kalamazoo, Roy (Sandy) Pomeroy of Richland and Mary (Bill) Wood of Oshtemo; sisters-in-law, Joyce Pomeroy and Barbara Pomeroy; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Kenneth, Charles and Ray. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. AGE 97 - KALAMAZOO, MI Geertje passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Sojourner House in Kalamazoo. She was born April 10, 1917 in Groningen, Netherlands, the daughter of Arnold and Jantina (Oving) Woldhuis. In 1942 she married Remburtus Knooihuizen in the Netherlands who passed away in 1985. Geertje loved to garden, sew and crochet and had made all of her own clothes and bed spreads. Surviving are her children, Pete (Loie) Knooihuizen of West Olive, Jantina A.L. (Duane) Williams of Jenison, Anne (Gerrit) Kalkman of Kalamazoo, Arnolda (James) Baker of Caledonia, Hilda (Gerrit) terBorg of Codrington, Canada, Bert (Pam) Knooihuizen of Plainwell and Henry (Sandy) Knooihuizen of Otsego; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one brother, Ginus (Geertje) Woldhuis of the Netherlands. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 4 brothers from Australia, 3 brothers and 1 sister from the Netherlands and one brother from the US. Funeral Services were held Monday, January 12, 2015 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego Pastor Mark Heijerman officiated. Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery at a later time. Ilene Fern REICHELT AGE 80 - SPARTA, MI

Ilene Fern Reichelt went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Audra. She was a lifelong member of Kent City Baptist Church. Ilene graduated from Sand Lake High School in 1952 and then began working as an operator for the telephone company. On Valentine's Day in 1959 she married the love of her life, Gordon and they had two beautiful daughters. Ilene will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Gordon; daughters, Lori (Tim) Beason, Linda (Jim) Gleason; grandchildren, Sarah Beason, Daniel Beason, Hannah Wheeler and Rebekah Wheeler; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Hessel - Cheslek Funeral Home, Sparta, Michigan on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 2pm with Rev. Timothy Beason officiating. Friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Saturday, 1-4pm and on Sunday 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Snow Bible Church Boiler Fund.

AGE 87 - KALAMAZOO, MI formerly of Plainwell & Gulliver, MI Jean passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Crystal Woods in Kalamazoo. She was born July 5, 1927 in Boyne Falls, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Klinkner) Bartholomy. For 15 years she was a secretary at Star Elementary School in Plainwell. On October 9, 1948 in Otsego she married Donald Scott who passed away in 2001. After her retirement she moved to the U.P. where she had been a member of the Divine Infant of Prague Church in Gulliver. Jean had also been the president of the Manistique Woman’s Club and a member of the Gulliver Historical Society. She was an accomplished hand quilter. Jean loved to bowl, fish, golf and sew. Surviving are her children, Alan Scott of Baltimore, Nancy (James) Belcher of Plainwell, Teresa (Jerry) Lawrence of Kalamazoo, Christine Kling of Otsego, John Scott of Flagstaff, Arizona and Joyce Bruce of Plainwell; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Sally Doster of Otsego; her very special best friend, Betty Stewart; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter-in-law, Lynette Scott; siblings, Ronald and Martin Bartholomy, Phyllis Scott and Mary Doorlag; and by her great-grandson, Tyler Burd. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on January, 15th at St. Margaret’s Church with Father Ted Martin officiating. Burial followed at St. Margaret’s Catholic Cemetery, Otsego. AGE 79 - PLAINWELL, MI Shirley passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, January 8, 2015 in Plainwell. She was born September 11, 1935 in Corning, Arkansas to Tom and Clara Waldon. She worked for Kal Equip and had retired from Stryker. On November 18, 1955 in Plainwell, she married Ramon “Whitey” Shook. Shirley loved spending time at Lake Michigan and Pine Lake, reading, bowling, playing cards, watching the Detroit Lions, working in her yard and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She loved her husband and her family very much. Surviving are a son and a daughter, Ramon Shook and Renee (Kevin) Vaughn, both of Plainwell; four grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) Shook, Mark (Kelly McDaniel) Shook, James Vaughn and Shelby Vaughn; three greatgrandchildren, Kobe, Ava and Ella Shook and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; siblings, Gerry and Bill Waldon, Mary Lou Woody, Jane Sparks-Munson and Lavina Mann. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. AGE 78 - OTSEGO, MI Paul passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at his home in Otsego. He was born June 6, 1936 in Kalamazoo, the son of Clarence and Tillie (Slater) Doxey. For 24 years he was employed with Eaton Corporation and since 1978 he owned and operated Quality Products in Plainwell. In his leisure time Paul enjoyed fishing and hunting, spending time in the U.P with family and friends at the cabin, snowmobiling, camping, gardening, stock car racing, traveling, playing board games and the Wii with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, using his computer and enjoying his pets. On August 1, 1955 in Kalamazoo he married Shirley Morts, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Dorian (Ruth Beldon) Doxey, Debbie (John) Vist and Michael (Dion Adams) Doxey; six grandchildren, Lisa (Steve) Shelton, Ryan (Kari) Vist, Pete Doxey, Dillon (fiancee Brittany) Doxey, Jake (fiancee Tayler) Doxey and Jonathan Beldon; four great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Zack Vist, Sydney and Taylor Shelton; a brother, Jim (Ruth) Doxey; sister, Marian Doxey; sisters-inlaw, Joan Doxey and Norma Cox; brother-inlaw, Phil Groth; daughters-in-law, Judy Doxey and Amy Kurzmann; several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant son, Donald Garrett; and a brother, Clare Doxey.
