“THREE GOOD CHEERS!” By Rev. Dan Minor - revdminor@att.net _____________________________________

While it is true that Jesus was “… a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief…” (Isaiah 53:3), it is also true that Jesus was the most joyfilled person who ever lived. Even his critics accused Him of having too much fun (Matthew 11:l9). The inauguration of Jesus was a new beginning … the age of grace and truth (John l: 17). The religion of His time was characterized by countless laws. The religion of Jesus was marked by joy and gladness. Jesus said He came that our joy may be fulfilled in Him (John 15:11). Jesus said He came not to “condemn the world but to save it” (John 3:17). He came not to take away our joy but to add to it. He was the incarnation of joy … joy lived out. When we think of people cheering, we might think of an athletic event. But Jesus is cheering for us all the time. He is our biggest cheerleader. The one quality that stands out about His joy is that it speaks to our deepest needs. There are at least three human conditions that seek to destroy human happiness: (l) guilt (2) loneliness (3) defeat. Jesus has an answer for each one. Let’s take a closer look and consider what I am calling three good cheers: •THE CHEER OF FORGIVENESS. There is no need to carry the burden of guilt. Jesus said, “… be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven” (Matthew 9:2). •THE CHEER OF COMPANIONSHIP. We never walk alone. Jesus said, “… be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid” (Matthew 14:27). •THE CHEER OF CONQUEST (VICTORY). We never have to feel defeated. Jesus said, “… in the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John l6:33). Therefore, we can face the future with joy … the kind of joy only Jesus can give. Prayer: Lord, fill me with your joy, then my joy will be made complete. Amen. Christian Neighbors will never send anyone to your home or call asking for financial support. Donald passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at home. He was born February 21, 1957 in Paw Paw, the son of Clarence and Elizabeth (Fairleigh) Zerbe. He served in the Michigan Army National Guard and was employed by Aggregate Industries in Plainwell. He married the former Vickie McWethy on August 3, 2006 and she survives. Also surviving, a son Keith (Tammy) Zerbe of New York, grandson Sebastian Zerbe, 3 step-sons, Michael Anderson of Otsego, Sean Anderson of Lexington, KY., Danny Anderson of Destin, FL. 3 sisters, Betsy (Randy) Fritz of Houghton Lake, MI., Bonnie (Ron) Brewer of Decatur, Donna (Jim) Vollmer of Sister Lakes, MI. and a brother Bob (Diane) Zerbe of Oklahoma. Burial took place in Lakeside Cemetery, Dectur. A Memorial Gathering will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Gun River Conservation Club in Gun Plain Twp. Keith passed away on December 20, 2016. Keith was born on February 23, 1940 to Rudolph & Vera (Ennis) Hodgemire. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 25 years, Deb; his daughter, Kristine (David) Benedict; stepchildren Mark (Melissa) Hodges and Melanie Vickery; and grandchildren: Ryan, Brooke, Ashly, Ariel, Mason, Maia, and Josiah. He was preceded in death by his parents. Keith served his country proudly in in the US Army, including the US Army Band. He was a musician well known throughout the country. AGE 88 - PLAINWELL, MI Camilla passed away Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born July 16, 1928 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Frank and Alice (Foote) Kellogg. For over 20 years she was a linotype operator for Beimer Printing and most recently for Doubleday Publishing. Camilla loved to clog and line dance she also enjoyed playing darts, doing puzzles, feeding the squirrels, traveling, camping, sewing and crocheting. She had been a member of TOPS for over 40 years. In September 1989 she married William Keith who passed away in 2009. Together they enjoyed spending time on their house boat on the Mississippi River. Surviving are her children, Nancy Bryant of FL, Shelley Miller of Grand Rapids and Sindy Weathers of Plainwell; step-children, Linda Sue Keith and Dori Ann Keith; granddaughter, Renee (Aaron) Burke of Comstock Park; great-granddaughter, Allison Burke and sisters, Lois and Louise. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and step-son Meredith. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering for friends and family will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at the Church of Christ in Plainwell. Burial of ashes will take place at Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell. Contributions in memory of Camilla may be made to Allegan County Humane Society. when he had surgery for his brain tumor in November. The surgery went very well. Danny will fight this brain cancer all his life and will be continuing chemotherapy to keep the tumor from growing. We believe God answered our prayers and yours! We kept wondering why so many people would pray and care for us since we weren't related by blood. A friend told us that it is Jesus' blood that brings people together and makes them want to help others.
