As Jesus grew, there must have been times when His parents wondered, “Where has the time gone?” There is every indication that Jesus enjoyed a normal childhood. There is one fascinating verse (Luke 2:52) which summarizes His childhood. Jesus set the pattern for growing up. Let’s take a closer look: • He Grew in Wisdom (In Mind). Wisdom is making right choices. Jesus made wise decisions. Knowledge is man-given but wisdom is God-given. We can teach our children knowledge, but wisdom comes from God (James 1:5). Affirmation: I will go to God for wisdom and make choices that are pleasing to Him. • He Grew in Stature (In Body). When we think of stature we think of physical growth. Stature may also be defined as growth in character. In the Bible, the word body also denotes total personality. It has been said character is more caught than taught. Every parent has the opportunity to model honesty, integrity and respect for others. Affirmation: I will follow the example of Jesus who always did what was right. • He Grew in Favor with God and People (In Spirit). Because God was in Him, people knew there was something special about Jesus (Matthew 16:16). Children were drawn to Him (Matthew l9:13) and the common people were glad to hear Him. (Mark 12:37). The best gift we can give our children is Jesus Christ. Affirmation: I will be a vessel in which the Spirit of God dwells (2 Corinthians 4:7). Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to grow “in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and people.” Amen.

Mary A. ALLEN

AGE 85 – OTSEGO, MI Mary passed away, Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Thornapple Manor in Hastings where she spent her final days in the care of the Great Lakes Caring Hospice. She was born September 30, 1930 in Plainwell the daughter of Robert and Fannie (Brown) Adams. She was a lifelong resident of the area and had lived at Baraga Manor where she made many new friends and reconnected with several she had known in her younger years. Mary was a retired bookkeeper and along with her husband had owned and operated an area dry cleaning business. In her spare time she enjoyed bowling, knitting, going to the casino, shopping, wintering in Florida, spending time with her family and friends and playing a good game of cards, especially when she was winning. She met Loren Allen on a blind date and on February 23, 1951 they were married in Plainwell and spent 50 years together until his passing in 2001. Mary was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother. Surviving are her daughter, Teri (Dan) Shipman of Middleville; grandchildren, Matthew (Jenny) Ward of Wayland, Steven (Chenney) Ward of Grand Rapids and Melissa Allen of Portage; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Nick, Lauren, Sebastian and Ronan Ward; sister, Joan Nelson of Largo, FL and her sisters-in-law, Beverly Sleeman of Kalamazoo and Zoan Allen of Plainwell along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Nicole Ward; siblings, Betty Adams and Richard Adams; sisters-in-law, Lois Adams, Janice Miller and Ruth Allen; brother-in-law, Orville Allen and by her father and mother-inlaw, Melvin and Gertrude Allen. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held, January 7, 2016 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego Celebrant Molly Wieber officiated. AGE 83 – LAWTON, MI (Formerly of Otsego and Gobles) Martha passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born November 6, 1932 in Trowbridge Township to Robert and Pauline (Puschel) Thompson. Martha enjoyed reading, crocheting, drawing, painting, making floor plans, working in her gardens, crafting, baking and cooking. On December 22, 1950 she married William Fuller and they had recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. In their spare time Martha and her husband had remodeled many area homes into apartments. She was a very creative and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are her children, Pamela Martin of Otsego, Cynthia (Lowie) Pachner of Decatur, Diane (William) Holland of Lawton and Amy Ketchum of Gobles; son-in-law, Mike Stasevich; 19 grandchildren; 43 greatgrandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren with 2 more due soon; her siblings, Joan Passage of Kalamazoo and Roger (Diana) Thompson of AZ; sister-in-law, Betty Bonnell; brother-in-law, Bob (Barb) Fuller along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Deborah Fuller in 2009; son-in-law, David Kelsey and by her siblings, James, Jean, Harold, Henry, Ann and Richard. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego at 1:00 P.M. with Celebrant Bill Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Trowbridge Methodist Cemetery in Trowbridge Township. OBITUARIES Paul N. STIMAC, JR. AGE 85 – ALAMO TWP., MI

Paul passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Alamo Nursing Home. He was born February 13, 1930 in Mohawk, MI, the son of Paul and Anne (Spreitzer) Stimac. Paul proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, classic cars and listening to classic rock and 50’s music. Paul was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family loved and will miss his sense of humor and happy nature. Surviving are his children, Debra (Brad) Buder and Lisa (Bill Hammond) Dykstra both of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Josh, Angela, Jerry, Amber, Elizabeth, Dulcey, David, James, Danielle, Amber, Eric, April, Sean and Nicholas; 22 greatgrandchildren and his siblings, Gretchen Wade and James (Bobbie) Stimac. He was preceded in death by his parents and sons, Michael and Eric. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial mass was held on Monday, January 4, 2016 at St. Margaret Catholic Church, Otsego. Rev. Fr. Donald Klingler officiated. Burial of ashes will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta at a later date. Contributions in memory of Paul may be made to the Kalamazoo County Humane Society. Linda Mae ALLEN Linda Mae Allen was the most loving and compassionate person you could ever meet. She lived her life in such a way that you left happier than you came when you saw her. Despite the fact that her own life had many trials and tribulations, she never let those times define her or get her down. Her greatest treasure in life was her family. She became a grandma, for the first time, just a week prior to her passing. Her goal was to make it until she could see her granddaughter and she succeeded. She wouldn't have had it any other way. Linda passed away peacefully on December 31, 2015, surrounded by her family. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband Jeffrey Allen, daughters Erin Allen and Jessie (Jeff) Burnell, granddaughter Felix Burnell, mother Nancy Zamora, brothers Jesse (Kate) Zamora, John (Bonnie) Zamora. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins. A memorial service will be held January 23, 2016 from 1:00-5:00, with a short service at 2:00pm, at the Plainwell Community Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or The West Michigan Cancer Center.
