The Otsego Design Committee continues to work with C2AE to create drawings for future riverfront development. We are also committed to improve downtown amenities. The Design team has been contacting people over the winter to paint our downtown benches and trash bins to have a fresh look in the spring. If you have ideas on how to improve the look and historic feel of our downtown, join us at our next Design meeting on March 19th, 6pm, at the Museum.

The Main Street Downtown Development Authority only employs one person. However, we direct hundreds of volunteers every year! Case in point, the Otsego Ice Rink.

The Economic Vitality Committee continues to focus on finding new incentives to both support businesses in the downtown and entice others to move their business downtown. If you have ideas on business recruitment or services we can offer businesses in our downtown, join us at the next Economic Vitality meeting on March 12th, 6:30pm, at the Museum.

We are celebrating 5 years of being a Main Street community and the Organization Committee is planning a Volunteer Appreciation event on May 19th: Small Town, Big Hearts! Come out to help with the Otsego Main Street Spring Cleanup in the downtown, followed by a picnic-lunch on the Riverfront to thank our volunteers. Bring the whole family!
The next Organization meeting is on March 7th, 6:30pm, at the Museum.

The Promotions Committee wrapped up 2017 with the Riverfront Family Festival in November and Hometown Christmas in December. 2018 will kick-off with the Poker Crawl in April. The team has also been working hard to come up with new event ideas to focus downtown Otsego as the center of entertainment and commerce. If you want to join us to help with future events in Otsego, our next meeting is March 7th, 6:30pm, at the Museum.
It starts with a group of 10 volunteers who help flatten the ground, place supports around, and then take time to fill the rink up with water to freeze. After that, dozens of volunteers from the community who want to skate come out to shovel snow, and by doing so they make it so others throughout the week can enjoy skating on the rink. Thank you to all of you that help and skate! It is good to be part of a community that volunteers their time and energy to provide activities for all ages.

AGE 95 – ORANGEVILLE., MI
Ginny passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at Rose Arbor Hospice. She was an avid reader and enjoyed just being home swimming in her pool, working in her flower garden or spending time with her dog, Chewie. Ginny was born January 10, 1943 at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Virgil and Catherine (Roseboom) Blowers. She had worked at Wieland’s Flower Shop in Allegan for 15 years and retired from Meijer in Plainwell. On December 17, 1993 in Otsego she married James “Jim” Benoit who survives. Also surviving are her 4 children, Eric (Tonya) Powless and children, Jessica, Jason and Theresa; Cathy (Will) Williamson and daughter, Amy; Scott (Colleen) Powless and children, Reno and Renee; Dennis (Amanda) Powless and children, Emily, Hanna and Joslynn along with siblings, Mike (Coleen) Blowers and Norman (Naeyo) Blowers. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Teri Hammond. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Ginny may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Dorothy Irene Bourdo passed away February 15, 2018 at Life Care Center of Plainwell. Dorothy was born April 12, 1922 in Orangeville Township, the daughter of Charles and Leila (Chapman) Foote. Dorothy married the love of her life, Glenn Bourdo, and he preceded her in death October 19, 1988. A lifelong resident, Dorothy had the honor of being the only Queen of Orangeville. Dorothy loved her family, especially all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She could often be found in her swing, on her deck looking at the mill pond, enjoying flowers, reading, puzzles, playing Pedro, or gathering with the Lunch Bunch. Dorothy is survived by her sons: Gordon (Fran) Bourdo, Bill (Betty) Bourdo, and Jim (Kim Sullivan) Bourdo; daughters: Betty (Larry) Tobias and Barb Czuk; fifteen grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren, fourteen great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was also preceded in death by a son: Chuck Bourdo; a son in law: Mike Czuk; granddaughters: Jody Bourdo and Tammy Bourdo; three brothers, and two sisters. Funeral service were conducted, Thursday, February 22, 2018, at the Orangeville Baptist Church, Grandson Tim Czuk and Pastor Dan Bowman officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or Orangeville Baptist Church will be appreciated. A long time resident of Plainwell, MI, Robert L. Graham passed away in Yuma, AZ on February 14, 2018. He worked at Rock-Tenn Paper Mill in Otsego for 44 years, and was instrumental in starting the Otsego Mill Credit Union. He was Director/Treasurer, a position he held for 31 years. Bob and his wife moved to Yuma, AZ in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of almost 70 years; 2 daughters and son-inlaws, Sherry and Ken Roberts and Lori and Dan Tefft. He also had 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held in Yuma on February 21, 2018.

Larry passed away Monday, February 19, 2018 at his home in Otsego. He was born July 10, 1941 in Otsego, the son of Charles and Roberta (Patterson) Fox. Larry had owned and operated Larry’s Truck Tire Service for several years and had worked on truck tires for his whole career. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and following Dale Earnhardt Jr. Surviving are his children, Larry Fox Jr. of Plainwell, Jim (Kim) Fox of Otsego and Chris (Jeff) Noble of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Tosha Miller, Trisha (Mike) Goodrich, Joshua (Amy) Whipple, Kevin Fox, Amanda Fox, Kirk Fox and Lauren Fox; 14 great-grandchildren and siblings, Val Haven, Gloria Rutherford, Vickie Seekman, Judy Palmer and Marv Fox. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Richard, David, Albert and Roger Fox and Betty Latta. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego with Pastor Leigh Larson officiating. Burial followed at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. While nothing can compare to His suffering for our sins, we can be sure of His presence in our storms. Jesus faced His storm with amazing grace, humble obedience and great courage. So can we. How can we do this? For the answer, we turn to the story the disciples caught in a storm at sea. The Scripture says Jesus went to them, saying “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid” (Matthew l4:27). Prayer: Dear Lord, we can face any storm as long as we know we do not have to face it alone. Thank you for always being with us in our daily lives. Amen.

Everyone experiences the storms of life. Some are natural. Some are physical. Some are emotional. Some are spiritual. The cloud of darkness hovered over Jesus throughout His young life. When he was about forty days old, the Holy family fled to Egypt to escape Herod’s dreadful decree (Matthew 2:1315). Early in His ministry, His enemies “looked for a reason to accuse Him” (Mark 3:2). He was rejected by His home town (Mark 6:3) and His enemies tried to “trap Him in His speech” (Mark 12:13). By the time of Peter’s confession at Caesarea Philippi (Matthew 16:16), the gathering storm was in full force. Soon after the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead, the Scripture says, “So from that day on they plotted to take his life” (John 11:53). The storm of opposition came primarily from two sources: • The Pharisees (a powerful Jewish political sect known for their strict adherence to the Old Testament Law) who believed Jesus to be an impostor, a law breaker and threat to their existence.
