REFLECTION: Let’s be careful This verse from John 14 is not a work-righteousness approach to the Gospel It may sound like it is, but it’s definitely not We should consider how we come to faith in the first place Our faith comes from God In other words, God takes the first step toward us, He loved us first The reason is simple Our sinful nature does not trust God We have a natural bitterness and suspicion of God That is why people often raise the question, where was God when ? The truth of our sinful nature was not even exposed until God’s love came to us as Jesus Christ. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the wor ld so that we might have eter nal life through him This is real love-not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacr ifice to take away our sins 1 John 4:9-10 This is the right order and means by which we attain faith in Christ A right relationship with God can never be earned, but only confirmed when we accept Christ

He was born on May 27, 1929 in Plainwell, the son of Harry and Jennie (Barton) Cary Ronald worked for Consumers Power Company for over 30 years, and relished the idea that he was retired for longer than he was employed He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing, and was a lifetime member of the Otsego Elks He married Lee (Brenner) on July 27, 2014 in Otsego

The oldest of 9 children, Kathleen found much enjoyment in her youth by helping with her siblings, participating in church, and singing in choir
At the age of 16 she met her husband, Chalmer Dyer Her first words after their introduction were “the minute I laid eyes on him the sun rose” Only 4 years later, in 1964 she found herself married to the love of her life and together they enjoyed 58 years of marriage and had one daughter, Theresa (Dyer) Hughes With an early passion to help others, the two successfully launched and operated their personal business the Dyer Adult Care Home where they supported end of life care for many residents of the Plainwell community until their early retirement in 1997
Kathleen loved her family dearly Her husband, daughter, and grandchildren were the light of her life and her relationship with her sisters deeply cherished She enjoyed traveling, thrift store shopping, gardening, playing guitar and piano, and writing poetry She was an Elder and Board Member at the Trinity Pentecostal House of Prayer where she dedicated her life to the work of the Lord Jesus Christ Her devotion shall never be forgotten She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend She touched the lives of many who carry on the torch to spread her light further in this life Kathleen was preceded in death by her father Alonzo Salyer; her mother Verglenda (Marshall) Salyer; her sisters Barbara, Sheila, Linda, Mary; and her brother Donald Ray Her memory lives on with husband Chalmer Dyer; daughter Theresa (Michael) Hughes; granddaughters Maj-Britt (Eric) Holmes, Jacqueline Martin, and Michaela (Kyle) Harrison; great grandchildren Erica Holmes, Rayonna Smith, Madison Holmes, Austin Holmes, and Jeremiah Jones; and sisters Charolette (Greg) Craft, Karen Salyer, Donna Rowe (Jim Richmond) Public service will be held at Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Homes, 120 South Woodhams Street, Plainwell, MI 49080, with a time for visiting on Friday, February 24, 2023, from 4:00 p m until 7:00 p m a funeral service will be held the following day on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 11:00 a m with Charlotte Craft officiating Kathleen will be laid to rest next to her siblings at Oak Hill Cemetery immediately following the service

Harold passed away Wednesday February 22, 2023 in Portage He was born March 21, 1935 in Bicknell, Indiana, the son of Ralph and Harriette (Shuter) Crock For 40 years Harold worked at General Motors until his retirement in 2000
In his free time he enjoyed traveling and hiking with family and friends Earlier, he enjoyed playing competitive softball and raising and showing St Bernard dogs Harold was a member of the Alamo Community Congregational Church, where he served on the Board He also participated in and led Dale Carnegie Leadership Courses On May 16, 1953 in Connersville, Indiana, he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Sanford, who survives Also surviving are their children, Deborah (Thomas) Rook of Orangeville Township, Janet (Dennis) Kiel of Alamo Township, Bret (Debbi) Crock of Kalamazoo; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Rita Woodson of Colorado, Glenn “Dale” (Dolores) Crock of Wyoming, Geraldine (James) Steele of Colorado and Carl (Teresa) Crock of Indiana; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Crock of Arizona, along with many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Arleen in 1981 and brother, Roland
