Katherine H. “Kay” SNIDER AGE 94 - KALAMAZOO, MI

Kay passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born October 25, 1925 in Otsego, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Hammenon) Lorenz. Kay was a 1943 Otsego High School graduate and longtime resident of the area. She was a founding member of the kitchen band at Friendship Village where she had lived for the last 10 ½ years. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting especially blankets and hats for newborns for area hospitals. Kay had been the organist at Temple Baptist Church in Detroit for many years. She was also a member at Calvary Bible Church in Kalamazoo and was active in supporting missionaries. In 1947 in Alamo she married James Snider who passed away in 2005. Surviving are her sons, David (Gloria) Snider of Florida, John (Janet) Snider of Kalamazoo, Charles (Nancy) Snider of Milford and Daniel (Patricia) Snider of Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren with 2 more due soon; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth and best friend since childhood, Jane Quigley. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Martha Koehn. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M., Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the Kiva Auditorium at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo. “THE VALUE OF ONE”

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninetynine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?” Luke 15:4

If you have ever felt hopeless, helpless, defeated or of little worth; I have good news for you. You are of value to God! Jesus said the human soul is worth more than the whole world put together (Mark 8:36).

While we place value on large numbers, Jesus places value on the human soul. During His ministry on earth, He often left the crowd to minister to the individual. Examples: The lost sheep (Luke 15:3-7), a Nobleman’s son (John 4:46-54), a leper (Mark 1:38, 39), the man at the pool (John 5:2-9), Blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46-52), an afflicted woman (Mark 5:25-34), and an afflicted boy (Mark 9:1-29).

Jesus may have enlisted a mighty army of believers to follow Him. Instead He chose to invest most of His time with a small group of common men who would change the world. What does all this mean? It means we are persons of worth. Christ died for us. Therefore, we must be important!

Whenever you get down on yourself, remember who you are in Christ. You are: • The crown of creation (Psalm 8:5) • God’s child (John 1:12) • Christ’s friend (John 15:15) • A member of Christ’s body (I Corinthians 12:27) • God’s co-worker (2 Corinthians 6:1) • God’s workmanship (Ephesians 2:10) • A citizen of heaven (Philippians 3:20)

Only when we feel valued in God’s eyes, will we feel self-worth.

Prayer: Dear Lord, When I consider my worth in Your eyes, I am encouraged. In Your strong name. Amen.
