“GLIMPSES OF GRACE”

Let us consider James, the brother of John.

He, along with his father Zebedee and younger brother John were in the fishing business. It was while at work that Jesus came to them and called them to be His disciples (Mark 1:19, 20). James is always mentioned in the Bible along with his brother, John.

James was the first of the Twelve to become a martyr (Acts 12:1-2). James, by temperament, was a typical Galilean, known for being easily agitated, having a quick temper and given to quarreling with others.

Here are some lessons in grace that we learn from James. FOLLOW HIM

They left everything and followed Him. The very meaning of grace is that we bring nothing to the table except our love for God.

LET CHRIST CHANGE YOU

When Jesus said, “Follow me and I will make you…” He was not suggesting force or coercion. He was saying, “Let me shape you into the person I want you to be.” Are we allowing Christ to change us?

SPEND TIME WITH HIM

To know is to be with. The method of Jesus was simple but powerful. To spend time with Him was to become like Him. The record shows that as the ministry of Jesus extended into the second and third years, He gave more, not less, time with the Twelve. Thus, spending time with Jesus is life-changing! Are we spending time with Him?

SERVE HIM

Once we decide to follow Him, serving becomes second nature. Remember Jesus came “not to be served, but to serve, and give His life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

Prayer: Dear Lord, may we grow in Your grace each day. Amen.

AGE 84 - PLAINWELL, MI Eugene passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Borgess Pipp Hospital in Plainwell. He was born July 3, 1934 in Allegan the son of Clifford and Lois (Sweet) Myers. Eugene graduated from Otsego High School in 1952 and was a lifelong resident of the area. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Eugene had worked at Schaffer’s Bakery and then at General Motors at the Kalamazoo plant for 27 years retiring in 1993. He enjoyed gardening, bowling on a league with his sons, camping at the Moose Lodge, following the Detroit Tigers, Lions and the Big 10 College Teams, going to classic car shows and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Otsego Moose Lodge. In November 1962 in Lowell he married Ruth Ann Kinyon who survives. Also surviving are his sons, Marty (Becky Sonnevil) Myers of Plainwell, Jeffrey (Andrea) Myers of Byron Center, Gregg (Cheri) Myers of Plainwell and Gene (Stephanie) Myers of Plainwell; 10 grandchildren, Josh A., Josh D., Marc, Matt, Jordan, Shelby, Abigail, Jessica, Alison and Paige; 2 great-grandchildren, Deklin and Daxton and siblings, George, Les, Marion, Lucille and Kate. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Vern, Larry, Irene, Bertha and Alton. Funeral services will be held at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 15, 2019. Military Honors by Otsego VFW Post #3030. A private family burial with take place at Trowbridge Methodist Cemetery at a later time. Raymond entered into the presence of the Lord, February 24, 2019. He was born December 13, 1930. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Allison Lamoradier. Surviving are his children, Carl A. Wood, Vicki K. Kinens, Marsha Kirby, Carol Burnett and Keith Lamorandier. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
